Android 10 - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Wtf 7pro had stable 10 all ready obviously OnePlus put 6t on the back burner ? I know beta meant to come out soon but what the hell man

Well now. It's not their flagship anymore, so this is standard. Companies don't have infinite resources!
The fact is we had Android 10 betas on the 6t before 10 was released, this is unheard of outside of Google devices until now. And OP jumped right in.
They're doing great! Every OP phone I've owned has had better support than the one before so IMHO they're really working on improving themselves.

So what? It will come when it's ready. See the sensor problems on the Pixel devices. Just be patient & relax

What sensor issues. I don't have any sensor issues on my Pixel 3a XL running Android 10. I also don't see the rush for Android 10 on this device. However, I don't like not having the latest security patches.

I have the August security patch, and I'm sure the September security patch will release with the Android 10 open beta. The OP6T is well updated compared to any smartphone, with the exception of the Pixel series.

Fully agree - having the latest security patches on it is a big plus.
Regarding sensor issues google "sensor issues Android 10 Pixel" and you'll see a lot of reports about it.
Maybe Fake News .

I'll leave this here ? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80263079&postcount=6125

Guys calm it down, we don't have super improvements since the last 3-4 years. If you need the super small improvements right away you have to buy a Google phone.
Be glad that you'll get it and be glad that oneplus has an awesome support lifetime since the 1+3

???
any idea when is lineage 17 official for op6t rollin?

Not particularly worried about this, neither particularly eager to have 10.
What I would like to know, though, is if the security updates will continue till the update to 10 or if they will stop until we will be able to update to 10.
That's what worries me.

I put 10 on my Essential PH-1...I use nova launcher and keep the 3 button standard arrangement. Not into the swipe menu stuff.
I couldn't really see any "real" difference between 9 & 10.
When it comes, I'll wait a week, just to be safe. I prefer stable over "new".
I really liked the PH-1, but the OnePlus 6T in my area has a better signal than the PH-1.

[Discussion] why there is so much delay in official Oreo build

Hie all,
First of its not any criticism thread... Just discussion thread. We all know Oneplus 5t is beast device... One of the finest android phone in the market now..... But why there is so much delay in official Oreo build. And Companies like Xiomi and other other mid range devices release thier Oreos but why not oneplus?
Xiaomi didn't do anything. Only one device of theirs is getting it right now. And that too because it's a stock android device.

But there are many mid range phone getting Oreo too.....???
Which ones have it already? Also this phone won't be getting project treble either, so if that does end up making updates faster in the future (I have my doubts) then the 5T will be even slower compared to other devices.

Haha... Bro who tell u oneplus is bad.... I started this thread just for discussion ??
Even samsung note 8 and s8. Owners jealous with our 5t??
My only concern is that after all this waiting, we'll get android 8.0 instead of the already available 8.1. However the Oneplus 5 already has Oreo stable and it is almost an identical phone to the 5t so I don't think we'll go through so many open betas as the 5. I hope the release of Oreo is near!
Oneplus busy making the SW for oneplus 6.

Flash the Oreo Open Beta, and boom, you have Oreo.
Even though it's a beta, it's still mostly stable and solid. Some apps force close, but for me it's mainly Facebook at times, and it's few and far between. Not much is gonna be different in the stable build once it's released, so you might as well flash the OB

I'm never in a hurry to get earlier builds of new major OSes. They always have major problems, usually battery drain being one of them. It hasn't really been that long.

This. It's like the huge push to get Lineage 15 for our device, when it's still missing tons of features that make it Lineage. They might as well work on LOS 14 so it could go official like the OP5.
As for OOS, let someone else be the beta testers. I don't need to be on the lastest and greatest just for bragging rights. We're still getting security updates for Nougat from OP so I don't see a problem.
Why do you all care so much about Oreo anyway? 4.7.6 is super stable, and working great.
Wysłane z mojego ONEPLUS A5010 przy użyciu Tapatalka
I don't know as though I "care so much" but I do enjoy having all the possible features and Oreo brings a few additions which aren't huge but worthwhile nevertheless. Considering I had read many reports of OB1 working without issue I went ahead and installed it and guess what, I have no issues. I do however have a few new features I like and I'm all for extra gravy. I would suggest that those that want Oreo but haven't installed the beta, consider doing it, you're probably not going to regret it and reverting is easy enough anyways.
I have the Oreo BETA 1 on my 5T and this is pretty stable, with a great perf/battery ratio, which means that the Oreo stable can only be close to release now.
By the way the A from Xiaomi is getting Oreo, but cellphones like Mi 6 or Mi Mix 2 with MIUI 9 are getting Oreo in beta channel.
correct me if im wrong
but dont they have new year hollidays now in china

OnePlus 6t and ROM development

Historically, how has the development been on the OnePlus devices? I am torn between a Pixel 3 XL and going the cheaper route and going with a OnePlus 6t for the price savings, more RAM, and more advanced technology, but don't want to go to a phone that lacks custom ROM choices and less active US development.
What's your thoughts? OnePlus 6t or Pixel 3 XL?

Oneplus 6 got released few months ago...
They are already about 15 ROMs & 10 custom kernels to try.
So yes ..great development
Generally very good although the camera is a bit downgraded when running AOSP due to the way it is coded on OnePlus' side.
The only unknown is how the code for the inscreen fingerprint scanner will be handled/ported.

If you want ROMs, go with Oneplus. Pixel ROMs have been slow to show and few/far between.
I have a Pixel 2 XL and the ROM scene is abysmal compared to the Nexus days - likely due to the cost of the devices. Many are claiming the OnePlus devices are the "New Nexus" line...and from looking at their forums, I'd have to agree with that assessment.
I'm getting the 6T the day it launches on T-mobile and passing the P2XL down to another family member.

OnePlus has got huge development support. I can assure you great development for 6T as sooner or later the sources will be unified with the 6. We will come to know more on it as and when the device tree and sources are released after the launch of the device.
Ill see your around here on the 6T forums :highfive:
Thanks Brothers!
I have a Nexus 6P now, but it is way overdue for replacement. I loved the development scene on the 6P, but is all but gone now. Was looking forward to the Pixel 3XL, but the 4GB of RAM, huge notch, and price was worrying me. I have been subscribed to OnePlus since the first one and have always been following new releases, just never jumped in and bought one.
We'll see you guys in a few weeks!
Has someone any idea , about the LED light?
Where is it?..
Don't worry bro there are some many peeps who gonna buy this phone even if there are no Headphone Jack on it, and im pretty sure the 6T gonna have a really rich development community! If it calms you im already started to make some Boot animations (i already made 8 of them they are in still in BETA but i'll able to finish it as soon as i get the phone), Icons, "Charging animation" <- (still don't know how its gonna work but at least the animation done )... So as soon the it's released, those guys who able to give something to the community, they gonna work to make this phone even better!

I've never seen it for the Pixel 2 XL. I thought it was one of the ROMs more for non-Google devices (since they are already "Pure Pixel", so-to-speak).
Pixel Dust ROM is out for it though - might be the same group?
Honestly, the thing that concerns me most about dev on the 6T is whether or not the devs will have an issue getting the in-display fingerprint working on ROMs. That'll be a make-or-break deal.

It was very popular on Nexus devices and did make its way to the OG Pixel (XL), but i'm not sure whether things fizzed out. I remember there be a lot of issues with the A/B partition if i'm correct.
Interesting what Devs will do for the fingerprint scanner, otherwise just stick with OxygenOS and flash a custom kernel

Sooner or later it will be porter but for actual experience we need to wait for the launch. As per testing the unlock is fairly quick to begin with and with extensive use after a week or so it becomes quicker as the algorithms are adaptive and keep learning your unlock pattern.
To make it even faster you can combine it with face unlock so both tech will be used simultaneously :good:

Thing is, it would have been a surprise if the Original Pixel (and XL) did not get Q.
Let's face facts - there are two - and only two - phone ODMs that have been keeping every phone of the past three device cycles current - not just with security updates, but with OS updates as well - Google and Apple. (That's it.) That is not merely why there is a used/refurbished Pixel market (my mom just pulled the trigger on a refurb Pixel XL), but why I pulled the trigger on my 3a last month. Pixel pricing - new or otherwise - is sane. (The 3a and 3a XL drive that point home with a sledgehammer - and especially in the US.) Unless you have a network-locked or network-specific model, you can take them to any carrier in North America. Lastly, Pixels are like utility infielders in baseball - they largely don't surprise.
I've had the beta version of q for a couple of months now. Just waiting for the official one to hopefully get rid of the few annoying bugs I have occasionally.
My phone is not rooted, completely stock. I don't care for doing that stuff anymore.
Curious - Exactly what bugs have you had?

I'm running RC2 of Q on my sargo (also dead-stock); first time I've run dead-stock Android (on anything) since Ice Cream Sandwich on a Lenovo tablet.
The reason I'm over here in Pixel XL turf is for my mom (not me) - she's joining #teampixel and specifically has a Pixel XL (refurbished) enroute. When it arrives, she is taking it to the nearest Verizon store to have her settings/apps/etc. migrated from her old phone (Samsung J3) to the Big Pixel. She's used to running dead-stock (remember, Verizon customer); however, her J3 is running Nougat- how much of a learning curve will she have with Pie?
I think most of the learning curve would be from switching from Samsung UI to stock Android.
I went from OnePlus 5 (for 2 years straight) to a Samsung s8 after I killed the OnePlus in saltwater. I didn't hate the s8 but ended up selling the s8 for a pixel XL. For most people it's what they're used to.

Android 10 coming out soon....

Hey y'all,
With Android 10 coming out soon to the 6T I have a couple questions. I have a OP6T from tmobile and I have "converted" it to the international rom. I'm curious if I will be able to dirty flash like I have with all the other oxygen updates. I have been using the local upgrade option after downloading the firmware and putting in my root folder. I know we technically won't know until someone tries this but was curious to see if anyone had any thought. Do you think this will be possible? I am rooted currently and usually will just remove some of my modules and then use the local update option. I haven't had any issues yet and hoping this will be a similar experience!

Not sure, but when updating to a major upgrade of Android (i.e. 9 to 10) I would want a clean install, and you will be going from stable to Open Beta.

I don't have 10 on my 6T, but it did become available on my backup phone (essential PH-1). To tell you the truth, other than any security patches, I couldn't really see the difference.

What's 7 Pro from your signature "last +1"
The sad truth is, the ONLY ones who deliver on a constant annual basis are Apple-IOS and Google-Pixel (Nexus), with a small exception of Essential (basically, an outlier with their 1 device). Everyone else, we're stuck in limbo. Even these direct releases (IMHO, IOS 13-13.1.-13.1.1. was a blunder, and a buggy one, and it's still a bit buggy) can be a mess.
Basically, it's a toss-up. Get more RAM, save some cash, lose the updates, lose the more rigid deadlines. Get the updates, lose some cash (Pixel), lose some compatibility and freedom (looking at you, Apple Iphone 11)...

Looks like a couple weeks for the beta

Don't tell me to calm down, I'm not your kid. My point is don't tell people something, and give a date if they can't deliver. It has nothing to do with extra testing, they are too busy with the 7T and 7T Pro launchers to make good on their commitments, and again they should make sure they can deliver when they tell their CUSTOMERS that they are going to do something. Don't give a date, and then delay. This will be my last OnePlus device.

Hi, how are you?.
What I'm going to say now could leave me out of the closed betas program, so I will try to say as much as I can without saying much, OB1 based on Android 10 was delayed because a problem was detected that caused random bootloops and some bricks in the closed beta number 4, the problem It's under investigation (At the moment there doesn't seem to be a clear way to reproduce it, as you will know this makes it more difficult to solve it). The developer team and the people in charge of the testers team decided to delay the launch, they say it's better to wait one, two, three weeks or the time it takes to solve the problem, instead of launching the OTA and hours later "endure" the storm that may arise in the forums, obviously that angers some users and I completely understand it when I see it from their perspective, but the users should think about this, there are currently two possible situations:
- OTA with bootloops and bricks = angry people asking why OnePlus doesn't test the things before release the update.
- Delayed OTA = Angry people asking why OnePlus takes so long.
OnePlus loses in both situations..
I'm not here to defend OnePlus, just like you some things also bother me, but we must be realistic and see things from another perspective, I tried to be as clear as possible, and I hope it has been useful!.
Have a good day :fingers-crossed:.

Oxygen OS updates

When I was considering buying a Oneplus 1+8 pro I was being told by YT influencers and media that if you like clean and good OS with frequent updates and longterm support that Oneplus is the way to go.
It has now been over 4 months since last update and AFAIK nothing is happening on that matter.
We have OB2 which is nowhere near being ready for daily driver. Even when it is released as stable I bet it will be even worse as what the current 10 is.
We have updates coming out for the 7 and Nord series but nothing for the 8.
If somebody wants to claim that there is nothing to update I will call them idiots. This OS is nowhere near to the level of the OSs I had on my previous Samsung and Apple phones. There are all sorts of issues which are not being addresed by Oneplus.
Am I the only one having a problem with that fact?

There are monthly updates, we have to wait for android 11 like everyone else.
Use Oxygen updater or look here: https://www.androidauthority.com/oneplus-8-pro-update-1108368/

1st - OB2 is like 3 weeks old, not 4 months. Hope you don't expect Stable A11 days after Pixels.
2nd - if you believe YT influencers, then I wish you good luck.
3rd - security updates are spot on.
4th - I use OB2 since the release day and have no complains. Eventually high battery use of Google Play Store app. Nothing crazy.
]1st - I was referring to stable A10. Latest update was released Aug 15, 2020. So not 4 months but 2. Still long time ago.
2nd -I cannot establish my own opinion since I have no chance to see these phones in person before purchase. Also this is nowadays normal and best way to buy stuff.
3rd - No they are not. The latest stable version is on August security patch. We are now in the middle of October. Even Samsung is pushing that as we speak.
4th - I use my phone for work so no I will not run beta SW on it.
Samsung are better with security updates, but oneplus will get android 11 first
No complaints with 8 Pro updates this year...

First off. Don't listen to YouTubers, and influencers, I think I would poke someone in the eye of they told me that's what they did for a job..
OnePlus absolutely smashes the other OEM's in regards to updates, Huawei, old HTC, Sammy, LG, Sony, sorry but none of them come close .
Pixel? Sure that's the source, but the shortcomings Vs pixel on the OnePlus, it makes up for with a bigger battery and IMHO a better Dev community and a course matched beta program.
You can't go wrong with OnePlus tbh.

Based on this report your claims have no foundations to stand on. Oneplus released 12 updates since the phone launched but most of them were minor updates and fixed nothing. Only one major update. I would not classify that in the "smashing other OEMs" category.

12 updates in 6 months is pretty good stats. Small or not. I have had all other brands and came back to OnePlus (I had the 6T as well). Even stock, it is a great OS. But, everyone has their own opinion.

No foundations? Perhaps the fact that OnePlus actually release stable OS' in a timely manner with very little need to change anything, OOS is an extremely stable and fast skin for Android..very light too.
Security update comes out OnePlus gets it... new OS in development, we get it early.....to what OEM are you referring?
Huawei does not offer this speed nor does it offer a beta program like this, Samsung didn't either if memory serves, Sony was pitiful and splintered (as was Huawei (due to device variants /regions) LG (do people still buy these types of phones? Motorola (budget phone not in the same league)
I've had a lot of phones so I have some experience here, this is a public forum, you can take my advice or you can move on, what I won't do is try to convince you against something you appear to have an agenda towards, personally I can say without prejudice or bias that the OnePlus 8 pro is the best phone on the market right now, very few people would argue that point.
Updates are on point, end of story.
A good OEM won't release huge updates because they have nothing to fix, meaning it was done right the first time, a bad OEM will do the opposite, like Samsung releasing a £1500 phone with a camera that won't focus.
Oh wow just saw your end of post, you compared an android device to apple.
Oh dear.
Tell me can you Bluetooth files yet? Is apple still crippling it's OS due to an "update" ?
Don't compare any android device to apple you'll get very little sympathy here in that regard.
Samsung? Really? Exynos processor in the non US variants? And you're supporting them? Anyone who likes android or has an ounce of respect for themselves would boycott them and sign the petition to get Snapdragon in all their phones..
I wouldn't swap my OnePlus if you offered me both the iPhone XS and the ultra.
Lastly I and the absolute vast majority of people have not and do not have any issue with our OnePlus phone.
Fastest phone out not.
Battery life? I get 10 hours SOT consistently, even when gaming.
What issues are you referring to? If it's green tint (see above)
