I'm having a problem downloading and updating apps from the Android Market. As soon as the download is complete and the phone tries to install the Android Market force closes. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? My N1 is rooted and running CM 5.0.6.

Go to settings>applications>manage applications>market then clear cache and uninstall updates.
Come back to home screen then go into market, accept the T&C's and download your stuff.

Thanks man it worked. The only thing is that I have to do it every so often. It also takes a lomg time for anything to show up (i.e. searches, downloads, and just browsing)
Thanks
Worked for me too
Thanko you!
Finaly!
I didn't need to uninstall updates. I fixed this by just clearing the data in the application. But yes, if an application hangs at install it seems to screw up the Market app.
Mhhh. Yesterday had an app (Volume) that was stuck on installing an app ... for hours.
Thanks! Fixed my issue.
Thanks, worked great

Am I missing something? When I goto settings>applications>manage applications>market I can clear data and clear cache but I can't uninstall anything.
I cleared both the cache and data but once I except the terms of service it FC again. And I still have the issue with FC after every install or uninstall.
Anyone care to chime in here? I'm still having issues with the market crashing even after clearing data and cache.
Also I notice the market will crash after I set my USB connection type to data (connect to the computer).
WTF!? i have tried partitioning/formating the sd card and reinstalling cm6.1.1 and everytime i login to my google account and go to the market IT ALWAYS CRASHES! i dont have anything but 2 purchased apps that are not installed. clearing data and such does not help. even tried to reinstall cm6.1.1 with and without hdpa gapps but the problem is still there. i have flashed roms countless times and this is a first. makes me want to get a blackberry now.
Worked, but now I have the old version. Does it upgrade itself?
I've installed new rom and when market updates it crashes. I did wipe chace, unistal update and yes it works. I get back my old market. But after few minutes it updates itself to new one and I'm back at the begining.

Where is your Market update installing to - /data or /system?
Sorry but I'm new here. How can I see where updates are? Do I need to go to recovery and find market folder somewhere in -data or -system?
You can use a file browser and look in /system/app and /data/app to see if the Market is there - however, a better option is to use Titanium and use the batch options to "Integrate updates of system apps in ROM".
Once the Market is back in the /system it should behave a lot better...
-data/app folder is empty. I found Marketupdater.apk in -system/app. I'll try this Titanium and report back how are things.
Ok I've fixed it. You just need to select english language in settings and it dosn't crashes anymore.
PS: Sorry for bad english.

This is the solution for most market FC issues. Someone should pin this.
Just wondering if anyone had this happen or know how to fix it - went to download the update to the Android Dropbox app today on my Evo (running Fresh 3.2), and it just sits there on "Downloading..." with no data actually being downloaded. Had no issue downloading two other updates this morning, so not sure why this one in particular isn't working. When I go hit "cancel download," it causes the Android Market to force close. Every time. Tried rebooting, all that good stuff. Anyone know how to get this thing working?
it happend to me before with other apps .just cancel the download and start it again.you might have to do it more than once but worked for me.
FYI dropbox installed perfectly on my EVO Running FRESH 3.2
I can't hit "cancel download" - tried that and that's when the market force closes. Tried clearing cache and all that good stuff, but it keeps coming up as "Downloading..." then force closing when I try to cancel.
I had the exact same problem. I fixed it by clearing the data and cache on the Market. In case you don't know where to do that: Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Market
Good Luck!
Thanks - I went back and cleared data and cache then rebooted, it seemed to work, managed to cancel the download and get it working.

I didn't know you could do it that way. I had the same issue, but used Titanium Backup to clear the market data.

I was able to download it now without doing any of this. If you notice, the version available now is 1.0.0.1, and the previous one was 1.0. I can only assume there was a problem with the original file they posted.
Very same issue when updating Dropbox! What have they done to break so many phones!!! This fix has worked though so woohoo! Thanks again guys!
I had no problem with this update. Maybe it has something to do with the way your phone is set up?
Can't download Dropbox. Cleared the Market cache and rebooted 2x and same thing.
Stock EVO 2.2, unrooted.
Basically I tried to force my phone to get the 4.3 OTA update by forcing Google System Framework to stop and clearing data/cache. It didn't work and it messed up Google Play.
Another website said to delete my Google account, restart my phone, delete play store data, and then add my account back. So I did that and it let my accounts sync which is good but I still can't download anything from the play store.
How do I fix it?
Try to similarly clear data and cache from both running applications
Google play services
Google play store
Then run play store and see what happens

I have exactly the same problem for the same reason. And, tried the same suggested steps without success.
There has to be a simple way to restore the download ability from the Google Play Store without wiping everything. The download error dialogs I get are all the same: "…could not be downloaded due to an error. [Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]
Are there any risks in restoring my phone? I can't seem to figure it out any other way, but I am worried something bad will happen if I restore it.

by restoring do you mean restoring an earlier nandroid through recovery?
I'm afraid there are risks with everything, although restoring is normally ok, although you won't guarantee that'll resolve the issue that you've currently got, you may also lose text messages and other system changes made post restore.
You could always take a backup before restore so that you have an additional safe point to return to if you decide that option although.
I'd be tempted to re try all the changes you've already done in one go (wiping the various three apps and also removing Google account), as in the past when I've experienced play store issues it's those type of changes that have resolved it rather than restore, which I'd normally use in the event of more severe problems ie corruption, data loss or bad Rom flash.
Fixed!
I believe I solved my own problem basically with a bunch of “Clear Data”s and reboots. Nothing major lost and no restore.
1. Settings > Apps > All (flick right) and find Google apps that are not downloading. Clear data (button). Also, find Google Services Framework and its Clear data (button). Reboot.
2. Settings > Accounts > Google > tap account name to view all items sync’d. Remove account (dropdown menu). Reboot.
3. Repeat the first step including the reboot.
4. Settings > Accounts > Add an account > Google. Existing (button) and select the account you previously removed. Reboot.
5. Wait a little, the problem apps should restore and begin their downloads to sync or update.
6. For some reason other Google apps remained a problem including Maps. Repeat the Clear data steps for these and the Google Services Framework. Remove Google account again. Select the existing account again.
7. Everything should now mostly be back to normal. Locations in Maps were all still there, but downloaded maps were gone.
Hello chaps.
Anyone have any idea how to clear this?
I have tried, uninstall the 2 software update APK, clear data on settings, tried a cache clear in recovery.
But still it remains!!!
Ignore, i have solved it
Open applications, show system apps, find "badgeprovider" and force stop/clear data > reset phone.
Today I made a strange observation on two A2017G: the ZTE update function ("Settings / Updates") crashes when you open it (both phones are on 7.1.1). It doesn't really matter at the moment but it's still rather weird. The phone keeps working normally despite the crash of the update function. Do you guys see the same behaviour?
No problem here
Interesting bug: if you have any ZIP file in the root directory of your SD card, the update app will crash. That was the reason why the update app crashed on my phone. I moved the ZIP files to a sub directory which solved the problem.
Updates crashes Settings app
I'm having the same problem. Everytime I select Updates in my settings menu, I get a message that settings app has crashed. Phone still works, don't need to power cycle. But I can't figure out how to get into the update menu.
UPDATE: I solved my problem. There is a System Update app that had been disabled. Took some digging around to find it, but after I enabled it I was able to get into the Update menu. My phone is downloading updates as I'm typing this. Hope this helps.
