Need to get a new life for my Note Pro - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

I am in Melbourne Australia, 60 years old, and are far too scared to try and give my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 LTE a new lease of life with the latest possible OS. So much so the family went out and got me an iPad Pro 12.9 and I won't touch it so they are getting upset with me standing by my 5yo Note Pro...it has always been the best thing since sliced bread and I can't part with it, I take it everywhere with me.
Lately I have been experiencing issues with it which I assume is due to the OS. Screen icons that are linked to web sites sometimes take forever to open the web site in Chrome and just little things like that. I have done a complete new reinstall of the tablet and still the same so I can only put these things down to the OS.
Can anyone advise if there is anyone I can take it to here in Melbourne Australia who will install the latest possible Android OS for me (for a price)...I would be forever grateful
Regards
Ian

Hi, i can suggest you to install "[ROM][P905][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 16.0 | Android 9.0 Pie 20190912" available at https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/rom-lineageos-16-0-android-9-0-pie-t3901023 . This rom is based on the latest os available (android 9.0) and it has just give my note the best performance (and security). I work as an engineer and i was able again to use the tablet for reading/answering my email, browsing and using some servers and in my spare time to watch some videos (youtube, netflix, plex, twitch.. everything works). If you want to browse the web, one application I can suggest is "Brave browser", available from the Play Store.
For how to install you can do it by yourself, just you can find a lot of videos on youtube and you will just need some confidence and a computer: don't worry f you do a mistake, you can always give it to a "tech guy" or a tech repair store and they will fix it for you.

Do you have an idea which one is the best OS for the P900?
Because I have LineageOS 14 installed on mine, but it seems the latest LineageOS is only for the P905

Ouya vs google play store

I was following ouya development but I have to say its a surprise for me that I will not be allowed to play already bought games.
For me ouya was a nice looking google tv with pads, probably it will end up that way since devs will hack the living **** out of it Anyway the freemium/microtransaction model might be in conflict with the whole sourcy openness.
Who prefer cm based ouya rather than stock ouya market thingy?
I'm not to worried about it. The Kindle Fire have a closed system, but was able to get Play Store sideloaded. The Ouya is most likely going to get CM ported to it.
Sent from XDA app
yeah but the whole issue is to tweak pads controls so it will be useful on touch controlled apps. not sure if it will worm
It has sideloading, you just install Play like any other app. It's probably the 2nd or 3rd thing I plan on doing when I eventually get mine in
noted for future reference on my Note 2
This is going to be a great device to tinker with :victory:
Would just sideloading the play store .apk work?
From what I remember, the OUYA will only be running on Android - it won't have the Google apps framework. If that's the case, I think the Play Store by itself won't work unless gapps are installed as well. I'm sure that won't be hard to overcome (simply flash gapps.zip from recovery or something) but it's worth thinking about.
And on that note, if it's possible and/or necessary to flash gapps, do you think that will open up (easy) access to all Google apps on the OUYA? I'd love to see some kind of in-game chat through Babel or something. (Of course, that could be what's coming with the android games code found in the MyGlass app...)
GAPPS is just Google apps you can't download.
It may be possible to load the Play stare. Just depends all what it required to it to work. I don't know if there is something that has to be installed within the framework or not.
The bigger problem I see is that Google Play may not have listing for the Ouya and thus not a lot of apps will show up or be downloadable within Google Play if it did install.

I think the other problem is that the controller may not play well with most of the apps on the market.

that may be an issue for anything not delivered through the Ouya Store. I think if you want an idea what may happen, if you have another android device, rooted, and have Sixaxais App installed and Playstation3 synced, try running the app with it turned on.
.
Just get an mk908 Android mini pc, run all of the emulators, XBMC, Play Store, and Bluetooth PS3 controller. Oh, an air mouse also.
I have to say I am very underwhelmed and disappointed by my OUYA. Besides the fact that I had to look online to see how to even install the batteries in the controller because there was ZERO instructions in what's laughably called a manual, I had completely forgotten about the touch pad and spent a while trying to figure out why I couldn't play Saturday Morning RPG on it. I was really hoping to better the experience by either grabbing apps from GPS or worse case sideload them, but after reading the comments here and elsewhere I think I'm best off just using my phone and tablet for Google gaming and sell this so I can put the $ towards an Xbox One....now THAT is a "smart device" if I've EVER seen one!! :good:

I'd suggest you're the only person on earth who thought that the Xbox one looked like a smart device, it's been the laughing stock of the internet.
Ouya has it's own store, having the google play store would bankrupt the company being they would make no money and google would make it all...
I'm sorry you had so much trouble, but I can't say anyone else had issues figuring out these basics, what you have is not a retail product, you got an early version that is not ready for prime time on a software/manual level, so it's rather silly to expect a retail quality manual when it does not ship for another month to retail... we are beta testers, and I thought the fact that we were paying to BUILD it clued everyone in on that.

ha yeah, i hope he was being sarcastic. Xbox One is a joke....to gamers anyway
it looks good on the surface until you get to the details they didnt share at the conference
a few thoughts
- when i'm gaming, i'm gaming. i'm not switching to TV or Movies or IE every few minutes.
- not always online....but it has to check every 24 hrs (according to one report). what if u have no internetz or are in the military or my bro in law who cant get internet at his house (without paying thousands to have lines run)?
- pay a fee on top of the price you paid for a used game (need to hear gamefly & gamestops reaction)
- kinect always has to be connected. (also what if someone comes in the room & says "turn that XBOX OFF" there goes your progress.
- the exclusives are probably kinect titles for kids
- non-removable HDD (should be just in case of failure)
- indie developers cant self publish
- for our fellow earthlings, a lot of this wont work outside of US
- it's GINORMOUS!
- the XBOX ONE is so forward-thinking, it's not even backwards compatible with gamers.
anyway, finally got my distribution center email for my OUYA today.
reading up on all this stuff while bored at work.
I've shown a lot of people the Ouya, most of them actually wanted one after seeing all of the things it would do. I've had a few who just don't get it and I understand it's not for everyone, but what does kill me are the ones who are like "ok so it plays movies at 1080P and XBMC is nice and all, but why would I pay $99 for something to watch movies and play a few phone games".. .the facepalm comes in when I find out they say this while owning an AppleTV.

I'm of the tinkering type so it was a no brainer for me, but I found I'm enjoying it even more than I thought I would, there are so many games out there I don't even want to throw down $2 for because they just don't look good... but here everything can be played for free, so I find myself trying every single game out there, I've gotten so many gaming time for nothing... and i found I loved some of these games I would have otherwise passed over.

cool.
so what all have you tinkered with so far, just trying games or some other more complicated things.
basically i want to know where to start when i get mine. should i try some games or sideload some other stuff on it, etc
Sideloaded Emulators, Web Browsers, Onlive, etc..
put the Amazon app store on so I could load up Opera Mobile, Dolphin and Maxthon browser, as well as file explorer..
you can sideload apps without any external tools if you just use the built in browser to download then go to the settings menu, storage, downloads and you can launch an APK from there.
the one thing to know is that all sideloaded apps go to the developers MAKE section.. but most stuff I've loaded runs well, still hoping to get my hands on a generation 2 googletv netflix apk.

I disagree 100% in that the op will be indicative of most general consumers that buy this at retail stores. That said, common sense suggests the retail units will have clear and concise guides as soon as you open the box. None the less, most retail buyers are going to balk at a proprietary market.
Their model depends on it, but most consumers will not care about that and will expect a simple, easy to start experience.
The bubble of this forum is not the best sample of tech knowledge level for mass market game systems. Lower the bar. If Ouya assumes otherwise, they may see good sales followed by a lot more returns than expected.

I haven't had any problems speed related.. I actually found it faster than CM10...
a user's feedback
Being fed up with privacy issues everywhere where the global internet players, like Google, are involved, I finally experimented with Firefox OS on my Nexus S. It was the first time that I did anything to my only phone that could possible have bricked it, so I was nervous. But installing it with the instructions given here (and there) was smooth, and shortly after I had it running. Wo-hoo!
It was running responsively and fast and I liked its design and touch. However, with a heavy heart, I had to roll back. And these are the reasons:
1) The video app crashed everytime instantly upon opening. As a father of a three-year-old, who likes to film his upbringing and watch these films on the phone, this alone was nibbling at me hard.
2) I use my own e-mail server, and it's using self-signed certificates. The e-mail app did not support such certificates. Also, the web interface was not usuable because the browser ignored my clicks to ignore the certificate. So, I could not use my e-mail account on the phone.
As I read that the e-mail issue was being addressed, I tried to build the up to date version for myself. But after hours of running “config nexus-s”, the process seemed to be stuck, at least it was hanging there for hours with no CPU usage and no insight about what it might be doing or waiting for, so I canceled it (tried several times). I then searched for more recent pre-build images for my model, but could not find any.
I am currently rolling back everything to Android, but not happy about it. I am looking forward to trying Firefox OS again with a next version. If anybody has hints for me what I could have done better, it's welcome to me.
Thanks, Sven.

It would be amazing if we could dual boot this ROM (on Lollipop) and the stock Android TV on Marshmallow.maybe with AROMA and

so true,to bad twrp does not support multiple rom on this device.
that suck.
in the other hand jide just leaked some info about remix 3.0 marshmallow.
that will be released very soon.
Remix is still a little glitchy & controller does not work wirelessly. Every other time Play Store is opened one must uninstall Play update, can be solved by installing the latest Play Store apk

Ho OK thx. Yes the controller and play store was expected.it is not the first that have this problem (Zulu roms)
Nvidia need to release the driver, they will make less holding back the controller wifi driver,as all it seems is a vain attempt to promote geforce now sales and percentage earnings via play store etc on shield tv.The chances are the units would fly off the shelves far faster than they ever would make more selling the games in a cloud subscription gaming service by miles,I'd see it as it would gain us notoriety for the hardware if I were a boss there, and that's everything brand recognition trumps trying to sell subscriptions to a sparse game library, and android tv os is just so young and uninteresting to some developers I am picturing it,this is why they are not rebuilding or porting current libraries of apps and games to the os.They probably see it more rewarding to keep with the standard os than plug money into an unknown variable, unless of course the fault lies with googles turn around on verifying the allready ported apps and games, this confuses me why is android tv os so sparse on apps and games and where does the blame lie in versions of apps and games for the android tv os lie anyway google and or the developer can someone elaborate where the blame goes please as I am confused what the problem is?

I assume for the play store the problem is from Google..
they offer different licencing for basically the same thing as Android..
but they have split Android and Android TV only because they wanted to earn more money.
splitting the licencing mean 2 time the money for them...
protecting a different experiences for living rooms.
for streaming stuff and controller you can blame nvidia for promoting their proprietary services and technology.
the cloud, the streaming and their "high "bandwidth "controllers.
Ah now I get it it's due to greed, make money by calling the same thing a different thing by slapping a launcher in it and saying yeah you can list your game in android tv os as well, but you know it's a different thing to normal android os because it's tv os! But actually it's android with a different shell they charge you again for just to list in the same play store for it,that's what people where i live call pure skank lol :good: thumbs up goolge no wonder everyone isn't jumping on the development side of this cash cow all at once lmfao, why the heck would you discourage before encourage if the aim is profit here???But thanks for this insight I never realized they'd do such a thing,it's theoretically a bit unbecoming of a open source os owner to start cashing in twice a time in my opinion it's a little bit cruel, maybe if they'd say earn your 1st year before paying a fee that would be better for anyone coming in as a first time publisher of apps or games, instead of being told give me your money then I'll list your game or app,who cares if it's not affordable because all your time and effort is spent making the app or game come to fruition for the purpose of then publishing it.Or even better incentives is 1 years free publishing and then a fee is paid regardless if you take it down or not,it gives a push to put good stuff up and not lowsy stuff otherwise you make nothing to pay with in the first year, why not work it door swings both ways like that,or a 2 year grace period is even better,it would mean better quality product is likely made, and money for the developer to afford to pay is highly likely at that stage.
I almost made a new topic for this, but decided to revive this one instead. Jide just released v3 of Remix OS for the Google Pixel C...... which has the same CPU/GPU as the Shield TV does, so theoretically this should make it a hell of a lot easier to get it working on the Shield.
I've been using it on my Pixel for about the past 48 hours and I absolutely love it. I'm trying to re-arrange my PCs in my apartment and I'm looking for a high performance, low power PC to put in my bedroom as a replacement for my Steam Machine (currently streaming stuff from it to the Shield in the living room), and the Shield with Remix would be the perfect candidate since I already know it suits my needs and is really snappy.
The question is, who's up to the challenge to get it to work? I know nothing about Android development, but I'm more than willing to help with development and provide anything necessary off of the Pixel, which shouldn't be a problem since I have Remix OS currently rooted

I dont understand? All my apps that I bought originally for standard Android devices work fine without having to rerpurchase. This even goes for apps I bought a few years back. I dont see Google splittimg licencing between devices, rather the opposite. And thats why Im perfectly happy with my Shield TV. If you look at Apple, they did what you talk about, releasing phone / tablet and I guess ATV versions of apps making customers have to repurchase.
Remix os uses a different license than android
They still have to release the source code, the kernel is Linux and the OS is Android, both are open source and licensed under the GPL so by law they have to release the source code of at least that, which is the major part we need. Also Nvidias drivers and source code are released so what are we really missing? I just read the article on XDA and its talking about Android-X86, but this is Android ARM, which is a different beast. Jide mentioned that they hosted their code on github, but surprise, surprise its empty https://github.com/jide-opensource. This seems to be their real repository: https://github.com/JideTechnology
Also I wouldn't be too sure of them releasing it for the shield since they already sell their own desktop/media center device.
Edit: looks like I was wrong Android is licensed under the Apache license, which means that a company can take the source code, modify it and change the license but the still have to release the code for the unmodified parts
Still me thinks it shouldn't be too difficult since they're using the same CPU and GPU, but the pixel is essentially a Chromebook and the shield has no screen or touch input, just an HDMI port, so it may be way more difficult than I think.

Which Custom Rom should I Install for SM-T330NU given these requirements ?

Hi everyone, Thanks for checking this thread out!! Just a heads up - I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to installing roms. I used to do it years ago with the PSP, ipod and some jailbreaking with old iphones (3/3g/4), but I haven't felt the need to do it since to any of my devices. So just keep in mind that I'll probably need a bit more detail in your responses to fully understand. That will be greatly appreciated.
I've recently restarted using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (SM-T330NU) for reading - but that is pretty slow, laggy process. Every once in a while it's smooth but mostly, it lags and takes forever. I've taken out as much data and apps as I can which helped but it's still annoying to use.
So I'm hoping a custom rom would help but I don't know what would work - I see there is Lineage OS 17 available but it's not clear to me whether that meets my needs, whether it works on my device or whether it's the best for my device.
I want to be able to browse the web with google chrome, use spotify, youtube, google play books, dropbox, drive, twilight. Other apps like Netflix and docs/sheets/calendar/gmail would be great but not the main priority.
So is it possible to get everything I want? Most of it? If so, what's my best option and what limitations are present? Please advise. Thanks for taking the time to read!

Custom ROM for Fire HD 8 10th gen (2020)?

Have any developments been made in regards to custom ROMs on this latest Fire tablet? It is on sale today for only $60, and I'd love to pick on up, but Fire OS . Sorry if this has been asked or answered before, I'm new to the form. I've been looking around, but have only found this thread which doesn't get very far. Thanks.
There is no root or unlock yet. There are no custom roms.
Deal of the day
I imagine some folks will end up here today due to the Amazon deal-of-the-day which includes the new Fire 8:
https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Fire-HD-8-Tablet/dp/B07TMJ1R3X/ref=gbps_tit_s-5_4e18_dde99212
If it was rooted this would have been a great time to pick up some of these... alas.
Maybe an XDA dev wants to try his luck on rooting one of these on the cheap(er)?
Any News?
Also got one of these, hoping to put a clean ROM on this thing
With these now being a hot sales item, I hope dev interest will increase and we can get root and custom roms.
Until such time we learn/find a way to root our HD8/+ Gen 10 ... I say say that the latest Toolkit here (V8.2) has been pretty good for me ... ads blocked, OTA disabled/stopped, Google Play Store running & other apps sideloaded, Nova Launcher working - it's my one-handed device to watch Smart Youtube TV and Vanced Youtube - quick email checks, etc. Fairly responsive and a very good investment for $50 shipped (my net cost) - slightly faster CPU & extra battery run time, bonus icing.

I’m afraid not. My device is also pretty usable after the “treatment” with toolkit, nevertheless I’d still appreciate the chance of installing another OS. I see many people online are asking if there’s any update, I’d even invest my own time in finding a way to root it… if only I had the knowledge to do it I’m afraid no Pro user owns such a device and therefore there is nobody searching for a way to unlock it.
does fire 8 plus support vietnamese language?
anynews for this Onyx?
Any news here? I'm kind of surprised the KFONWI has been out over two years and nobody's been able to get LineageOS working.
Amen. LineageOS on KFONWI would be ideal!
If someone could teach me how to build a custom rom and how to unlock the bootloader and stuff on this amazon tablet, I would totally maintain a build for this rom. I hate FireOS, and since I have no idea how to do anything on android, I don't know how to build roms and stuff.
