Multiple Users? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Does Samsung S10+ not support multiple users in Oreo? I can't find the configuration, so if it is supported can anyone point me to where this is configured?
If not can any give some good best practices on how to operate with multiple persona's (e.g. personal and work), where there is very little overlap in the apps needed between the two persona's except for Chrome...
Thanks!

You can use "Secure Folder" which is Samsung's version of android work profile. It uses Samsung Knox which is more secure.

Rooted rom security

Sup world was wondering how secure a custom rom is as far as managing different bank accounts? Would be safer to keep the motoblur stick on my d2? Thanks
Sent from my FroShedYo.V6 using XDA App
Technically, it would be possible for a third-party ROM to contain malware that sends your bank account information to an arbitrary location. Any software could have features that cause unintended things to happen, whether it is commercial or free (occasionally, viruses have accidentally shipped on shrink wrapped software from major companies).
However, the probability of this happening is pretty low. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Thanks

who banks online?

I normally use my phone for online banking, but it is not rooted. Do people bank online with a rooted phone or a phone with a custom ROM? If so is it safe?
It's got nothing to do with being rooted or custom ROMS.
The issue is if you have malware from dodgy websites or apps.

Yep, agreed! It's safe as long as you take precautions. If you will use an app to access your account, always use official apps from your bank. Keyboard apps have the potential to include keylogging, so be weary of that, and use well known keyboards and never, ever use a pirated keyboard.
As with any platform, the more popularity it gains, the more targeted it becomes by criminals. Based on a report (Feb 2013) from an independent IT security institute (AV-Test), the amount of malware threatening android systems at the time of that report was over 185,000, so the risk is there. I would recommend using an anti virus if you do plan on doing regular banking as the bulk of the malware comes in the form of applications whether it be via Google Play Store or other sources for your applications.
AV-Test carry out a monthly round-up of AVs available for android, if you haven't already got hold of one, this can help you make your decision as to which one to use! Some offer protection not just versus malware but phising websites as well, so they may be more suited to regular banking on the phone.
I cannot yet post links but if you search for "av-test android" on google, it should point you in the correct direction.
Good luck!
Oh...banks, I thought that said something else
There's so many anti virus apps I don't know which one to use, and they are battery hogs. I've always thought that custom ROMs had less security because the developer could secretly tweak or add something.
The biggest risk is physically losing the phone.
The banking app has you login data, even if its encrypted or password protected. Its there. Someone who has hands on your phone can get that information. And if you dont have that banking app password protected anyone who picks up you phone has access to your accounts instantly.
That is the biggest risk.

Of course the potential for backdoors is there, however, XDA is quite a good resource of recognised and reputable developers. If you wish to use a custom rom and it's open source, you could even compiled it yourself.
As for stock roms, even here a risk exists. Carrier IQ was quite a controversial topic back in 2011, towards the end of the year. This was installed by default on a lot of mobile devices by carriers, to collect data for the carriers. Investigations showed that it was even logging keystrokes.

Yeah this risk exists without a doubt, the best steps you can take is ensure use of security lock for your phone, remote wipe functions as well as reporting the lost phone so your provider can take the necessary measures to disable the network or block the IMEI.
All in all, I think mobile banking is fairly safe, but it's a choice you make at the end of the day. You just need to be aware of the risks. Use official apps only, and keep it updated. Be careful of your surroundings when using in public. Do not use mobile banking on public or unsecured WiFi networks. If you use a password, ensure it is strong. Disable bluetooth when banking. Be weary of phising websites. Keep track of your device, like you would your wallet. If you are rooted, always check permissions requested by apps.
As for anti-viruses, I use Avast myself, and find it has little impact on the battery and has decent protection (Close to 100% detection rate on the last AV-test analysis), and it's free! It also has remote wipe/lock functions, and a firewall usable if you are rooted. But as I mentioned earlier, you can browse through their website and anything with a full usability score shouldn't have too much impact on battery. I would not consider banking without an AV.

Anyone here pull the trigger on the SM-P907A?

Stopped by the ATT store yesterday afternoon and got so close to pulling the trigger. Then I remembered that for ~$150 less, I was able to get the 64GB SM-P900 model with the free keyboard offer from Best Buy.
I personally like the idea of being able to use my tablet on the go, but $899 for this 32GB LTE model seems rather steep.
Regardless, I'm still on the edge of picking up this ATT variant and was curious if anyone had done so already or considering the same.
I'm definitely all ears on the pros and cons and would also like to get some feedback with regards to performance, battery life, and firmware updates. I figure that real world performance is negligible between the wifi and lte model, but would like to hear from those that got to use both models.
Thanks in advance.

I picked my AT&T note pro the day it was released (last Friday), and so far I absolutely love it. I have had the Note 10.1 for quiet some time and was a little skeptical about spending $900 just to upgrade. But after just a few days with it I am very glad I "pulled the trigger". The screen resolution is amazing, even compared to the Note 10.1 The speed seems a lot quicker as well, even without root and debloating. As far as battery life I getting around 10-12 hrs of screen time, that's a combination of WiFi and LTE. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the feedback on your experience with the AT&T model of this beast of a tab. I actually picked up the US 64GB version of the P900 use it with a mobile hotspot device and it's been working well for me so far. Still, I'd much rathet not carry around a mobile hotspot just to get online. I just wished they released a 64GB LTE model.

I'm doing the same only with a 32gb model. Choice for me came down to root, at which point it was a no-brainer . . wifi version had it, US carrier versions didn't and I didn't want to risk slower development times for them.
From the looks of it there isn't much development for the wifi version either.

True, to be honest though with root I've already done enough to my tablet to not worry about custom ROM's for now. Still hoping for a slimmer rom to be developed but I probably won't jump on it right away.

What have you done to your note since rooting? This is the first device I've owned that doesn't have any ROMs available. Not sure what do with it when I take it out of the box...usually it's a quick dead pixel check, then goodbye stock.
Looking forward to this device and xda community!
Got overnight shipping on my Note Pro, can't wait to get it tomorrow

Currently running Pie Controls and GMD Gesture Control to assist in application switching and other quick shortcuts. Not sure if I'll keep both I'm relying on Pie Controls more.
With Titanium Backup I've frozen a bunch of applications including Allshare, ANT applications (3 of them), samsung's backup app, Blurb Checkout, Business Week, Cisco Webex, E-Meeting, ELM Agent, Facebook (I use the web page), FWUpgrade, Gallery (I use Gallery KK), Play Newstand, KLMS Agent, Magazine Widget, Music (I use Google Play Music), My Magazine (I use Nova Launcher, the stock launcher sucks), Netflix, NY Times, Pagebuddy Service, Remote Controls and Remote PC app, Samsung Push Service, Scrapbook (no intention of using it), SideSync (dont have other samsung phones), Software Update, Weather and Briefing.
Freezing those applications keeps them from loading even as cached apps freeing up space in RAM to cache other apps that i frequently use.
In addition I uninstalled all Knox related apps.
For other mods I'm using Xposed Installer to do things like per application DPI settings to render things in smaller fonts, block ads, disable nag screens (location consent, modify share menus, modify complete action windows etc.), control what starts at boot (boot manager) as well as a few other tweaks.

No custom ROMs and no root for Lollipop on the 907A... I ended up going back to KitKat so I could have root and Xposed.

No option to enable ART on S5 g906k Prime

I've enabled developer options from tapping the build number however there's no option to enable the ART runtime. Any clue in why the Korean version doesn't have this and how I can enable it via a different approach?
Thanks.

It is libdvm.so.
Unfortunately it seems that ART isn't an option. But, given that there isn't an option, that suggests that some part of the code simply doesn't work with ART. Only samsung knows what!

Exactly my point. Presumably some parts of the Samsung software aren't compatible with ART for this CPU/GPU. And hence why the option isn't there. Of course, I might take a backup at some point as try it, but not yet.

So, when Android L comes out will it not be able to work with ART?
..
fffft said:
You're jumping to an unfounded conclusion. It's possible that is the case, but there is no evidence to support it yet.
In fact, it would be highly unlikely that the core system apps would be incompatible with ART given that Samsung would know Google's plans to make ART the primary cache method in Android L. Nevertheless, many non system apps are known to be incompatible at this time.

Maybe. But why didn't Samsung include the option for just this model then? Seems very odd. Maybe Koreans don't like ART?
[edit - Actually, what is more likely is some carrier installed bloat is probably not compatible... Hence removing the option was probably easier for them??]

Ad Block

Google AdGuard. I heard it has some functionality w/o root.

This App seems suspicious, the version on App store apparently is outdated and asks us to download the newer version from their website. The newer one wants to setup a VPN, not really sure if it's legit !

Its not suspicious at all. Its just been removed from PlayStore doesn't mean violating Google rule. I've been using it Since v2.0 as Developer seems to legit and whatever he describes you can cross check on Google+ Or Facebook.
Lastly, AdGuard does it job well, but ideal battery drain would be a huge issue for some. Whereas this one doesn't have battery drain issue, yet blocks the ads quicker. Check for requirements on PlayStore or while installing, I'm sure, you'll change your opinion.
Also there's one more AdBlocker with ROOT! named AdClear, search on XDA.

Found this on dev's website, I think I'll wait for root access.
"The only problem with this approach is, that for Android there are strict rules about who and how DNS can be changed. Normally changing the DNS directly needs ROOT access (i.e. your android device to be rooted). In order to work around this issue, "Block This" for Android creates, what we call a local VPN (Virtual Private Network) and all of your apps/browser traffic is routed through this VPN. This VPN is carefully configured to only modify the DNS settings of your network, while preserving your internet speed and not sending out any traffic to external VPN servers. "
I use AdGuard and it works great. You have to purchase it but I have been using it for awhile now and it's worth it.
Yeah adguard works well no root just purchase it to get ads blocked through out

It's the way most/all ad blockers work if you don't have root. VPN let you change the way the network works in ways you can't without it.
Not saying I like it, I use a VPN for security when on untrusted WiFi, and for watching Netflix while abroad.

Using " Block This. Adguard is subscription based, I still have a few months left.
I don't know if Block This will stay free forever though. Both work fine.
I do notice a reduction in wifi throughput on internet speed tests with Adguard. We have a 10Gbps link here that's limited to around 5-600Mbps on wifi. On my Note 5 with Adguard on I typically see 200Mbps max. With it off it will hit 500+.
Block This does not have this effect as far as I can see.
Aside from that (which most people probably won't see LOL) they are pretty much the same.
My biggest gripe is you cannot get rid of that stupid key icon. But that is an Android thing not a fault of either app.
Got an email today regarding Adguard. They are/will be supporting https. This means youtube ads in app will now be blocked! That's great news indeed!
I'm using the Samsung browser with ad block plus for Samsung browser. If I want a faster browser and save data I use opera with data savings.
