Did anyone get a notification for an update today? The version is "PB1" (LRX21T.G900VVRU2BPB1). It appears to just be a security patch. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/galaxy-s5-update/ Assuming someone will dump it out, root it, and we'll be able to flash with FlashFire? I've pre-ordered a S7 so I don't know if I'll even try before I ditch this phone.
I'll give it a shot, assuming I can trigger the update.

Update has been downloaded. Now lets see if I can pull it.
I'm currently pulling/uploading the update.zip for @muniz_ri or @jrkruse to look at for us.
Hopefully it can be rooted using the new root method and they can make a ROM or 2 for us.

Does anyone know if it is 5.1? I was just chatting with Samsung they said it was but I updated and it showed it was still 5.0... So did my phone not fully install it or what?
Someone confirm, this appears to update the bootloader and break our root method
EDIT: All is good
I tried multiple times to update to this ROM today, and I failed multiple times lol. I've tried enough for today. I might try again tomorrow.

Still good ol' 5.0. Change list is the same as well. Just a security update from what I gather.
just update with flashfire via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65593555&postcount=724 using the same keeproot method? Also, I've never been able to use xposed. Do I have to have deodexed for that?

Actually, I doubt you are going to see 5.1 as Samsung is releasing 6.0 for the S5 in May.

I have been getting a notice to install this update and I have been ignoring it because I am afraid it will stop me from being able to activate a Wi-Fi hotspot through PdaNet/foxfi. Has anyone installed this update who uses PdaNet/Foxfi as a hotspot? If so does it still work?

Several weeks, maybe a month ago one of the android news sites listed the Samsung timetable for the phones that would get it. It wasn't carrier specific but rather device specific and the S5 is slated for a May release from Sammy according the article I read.

Can you check which bootloader version it is please. Go into download mode/Odin mode and look for the thing that says either B2 or B3. If it says B2 it's still bootloader 2, if it says B3 it's bootloader 3. Report back ASAP. I would really like to know.

Damn not bootloader 3 that sucks. thanks for checking. On another note im looking at the firmware details but it seems as if the actual firmware didn't update as it still says August. Maybe just a baseband update or a prep for a future update? Sucks though was hoping for a a B3 update. Thanks though

Hmmm not being able to odin back to stock is kinda scary TBH. It kinda sounds like the bootloader tried to upgrade or something since if the bootloader was still B2 it would flash fine.

Not that benchmarks mean a darn thing but..
So I rooted and flash my s7 back to stock. Since then and after doing a couple of full factory resets and with no SD card in the phone's "recent" and "back" buttons at the bottom will light up, screen stays blank during this, then the phone will not wake up for a few seconds. Even if I'm pressing the Home and power buttons. Happens randomly.
I've used Package disabler Pro to disable all bloat ware, but still didn't help. Really not sure what to try next.
Any thoughts?
thanks
When you flashed back to stock, did you flash all 4 files via Odin? You didn't use Home_CSC, did you?
I believe I did flash all 4. But would you have a link for flashing so I can preform it again just to be sure. I didn't use the Home file either.

The one I linked is the exact same Marshmallow build you already have.
The U-firmware I mentioned is also Marshmallow. I did a short write-up with pros and cons in this forum a few days ago, along with a link to the firmware.
Finally, nothing that you flash with Odin on this phone will be rooted. The engineering (root) kernel can be flashed with Odin as part of the process to root the phone, but it won't flash a rooted system.

Could be...Yes, I'm pretty sure the bootloader is locked. There is an option in developer options to allow it to be unlocked, but
it pops up a security warning, so I don't know if it will work or if it will hose something else.
I guess the "official" 580 will hit my phone one of these days soon.

Seems like the only way we'll be updating our phones from b560 before Huawei pushes OTA, is to roll back and upgrade directly to b580, or flash through custom recovery.

New update has dropped. Version P-MR2-RC001-RZR-190914.3123 and brings the phone up to September 5th for security updates.
I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

Compatibility hasn't been confirmed yet, but previous discussions with someone who had an AT&T version that was on a July update had issues with arter97's kernel on September's update. The kernel seemed to be incompatible as it failed to boot and also switched the phone back to the old slot afterwards.

This seems to be a differential update, as the boot.img is 1/4 of the normal size. I thought, I could patch it with magisk... [emoji53]

It seems to be the case as the images are rather small. I'm not sure what to do now that I'm on Havoc OS GSI. Is there a possible way to patch stuffs other than system (such as vendor)?
I'm yet to make a backup as the current app I use for backup (Migrate) doesn't appear to work properly on this phone (while it worked on my previous one, Xperia XZ Premium), and that Titanium Backup hasn't been updated to be compatible with new features (such as split apks) so some backups can no longer work properly after restoring.
I also need to know if there were any improvements regarding Bluetooth compatibility. Currently I cannot use my bluetooth headset on GSI (only phone calls work), even with a modded overlay (with values changed to undo Razer's crippling of certain features such as aptX).
EDIT: I guess it's not that easy as the payloads are most likely block-based OTAs. These updates do not tolerate any changes on the partitions unlike file-based OTAs that we used to have. We'll have to wait for full factory images to come out and make a list of what we really need to flash from stock updates...
Any issues with the update etc please lmk everyone!
Enjoy it!

Not exactly an issue, but can you tell us, when razer will push the factory-image for this new update? That would make things mich easier...

Wish I knew!
But I can say to them that people are wanting the factory images if no major issues are present I can't see why it wont be up there but that's me.
I tried updating but it gives me an error everytime.
(Using the Deodoxed version)
Can someone help me with this ?
So trying to game plan here. Logic tells me to flash boot, vendor, and system from factory image of current build. Then let the system update itself. Then flash arter kernel, then go into twrp and flash latest magisk zip to get root.
Is this update still Android 9 or is this taking us to android 10?

I'm trying to read between the lines here Brad but I'm not picking up what you're putting down.

This is the standard OTA that needs stock recovery & the update is still Android Pie/9
Also, for anyone that's curious, it doesn't seem to fix any of the speaker phone/call quality issues currently present in Android Pie/9 (but weren't present in Oreo). I can't speak to Wi-fi performance improvements, or other fixes mentioned in the update notice, but I am very thankful that Razer has released this OTA with security patches through September of 2019 ? ?. Thank you Razer!
Wifi
The WiFi is fixed for wifi calling I believe if you put this phone into airplane mode and trying wifi calls it would glitch the wifi out before now seems to work
I think I'll wait to install it until someone else who is more educated in this tests it and makes a guide for it to put stock back on and whatever we need to do to make Arter 97 kernel work with it.
Any fixes to the camera apk?

I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

i reflashed the stock firmware and ran the update to get the latest security update. I also have arter97 r11 kernel installed and magisk and have it rooted with no problems. Google Pay works as well as I was able to get it to pass the CTC scan.
