Hello,
Do you all know of anybody emulating android on rugged devices like the Motorola MC9190 and MC9090 or forklift mounted computers like Honeywell THOR VM1?
We are migrating to a new warehouse software that requires android. The Motorolas run on either Windows Mobile 6 or CE 6. The Honeywell devices run on CE6. Need to make sure that is not easily achievable before we do a full hardware refresh to accommodate the new software.
Thank you!

Hi, I'm not dev but I have experience with enterprise devices (MC9xxx or Thor VMs etc). You've probably found it already by yourself that it's not reasonably possible to "emulate"/run Android on Windows CE.
IMHO someone should plan ahead with device replacement costs into the Warehouse system upgrade budget at first. Only thing you can do is to either sell them and buy new one or to connect to warehouse system different way (How do you connect "desktop" clients to it?) - Browser? RDP? For example you are able to use HTML5 Webkit browser on at least Windows CE6.0 devices (MC9190 and Thor VM1)
I was just wondering if it was possible to port Ubuntu for this device.
It's almost as if the software is dead for mobile devices.
Can someone more knowledgeable in the field please enlighten me?
Merci
I would love to have full Linux as well...

I was actually trying to build Ubuntu touch for my previous phone which was a motorola moto e2. Had to stop because I had my exams and then it's been half way ever since... And as per your question, Ubuntu is still based on a bit primitive kernel when I had last seen it. It's development has been turtle speed and nobody saw much of it. One major problem is that many apps are not yet developed for Ubuntu touch and canonical denied the support for Android apps as native apps run better and faster. So all in all, I will be good to have a Ubuntu touch but will be devoid of many useful apps available for Android. Would be nice to have it but after some time, I will get too bland as it will be basically a smartphone...with reduced smart features. That's why the community has seen less than 10 devices actually supporting the OS.
Thanks bro. Very clear and insightful.
Hello
My Android OnePlus 5 8GB/128GB, just arrived. I already have a OnePlus 3 and my reason of purchase was higher RAM & better processor, as I needed more users, to install 6-7 copies of an app that allows only one user. OnePlus 3 was getting sluggish with three users.
Now I find that OnePlus 5 also has a 5 user limit. I wonder what's the point of better hardware!
Can someone tell me if its possible to tweak the user limit to say 10 or 7. And how to delete the guest user to gain one user relaxation in the limit.
Hope someone can guide me.
With best regards.
Sanjay Arora.
I don't know why someone should need 10 copies of one app but there is the possibility to clone apps. Did you ever read about it?
There is one app called App Cloner...

Hello, and thaks for wellcome me to this forum!
Since I'm new here, I hope that I posted this to the right place...
Anyways, as the image says, I have purchesed a month ago this chinese head-unit (Car Vision, model no. DD-A01), and I have noticed that it has a very old version of android! On settings says that is 8.1, but... I have used a software to check if that is true and I have learned that is Marshmellow... obviously I want to update it, and since the update button is deactivated, it means that I need a specific ROM, and I don't know how to do this, or where to download it from. I appreciate any help from you, because even this head unit is a budget one, I don't want to brick it...
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!
So first of all, you're absolutely right - you currently have Android 6 (API 23). The latest supported firmware is Android 8 (API 27). The process of changing to Android 8 can be quite complex for a non-expert Android / PC user but it is very much possible.
To manage your expectations, you will probably not notice any difference between 6 and 8 in terms of performance, user experience or sound quality. For this, you need to look into custom firmware that is nearly always a much better choice.
Although I don't have any software packages for your particular unit, feel free to browse the guides in my signature that will give you a better understanding of the process itself and benefits.
If you live close to London, UK and would want to loan me your head unit for a few days for development - PM me.
Thank you! I'm studying your guides right now!
So, is Android 8 the latest update... I can't wait to install it! But I want this to be done properly, so back to study!

I have a question... when using the back up tool, after backing up all data on the headunit succesfully, it means that I can save the device even if I bricked it?
