Those of you that have gotten your phone, what's your speaker quality like for the front speaker? I noticed that mine is scratchy for higher pitched sounds like a girl talking, but sounds okay for lower pitched sounds. Does anyone else have the same issue? I might try going to the AT&T store tomorrow and seeing if they have any in stock I can exchange mine for.
Well... supposedly going into the store to pick one up might be a longshot, especially on launch day, if it's to be as popular a phone as it appears it will be. As for the scratchiness of the earpiece.... it could be a defect, or it could just be the volume. Hard to say, really.
Didn't engadget say it was that the speaker were really good?

Yah, I figured it'd be a long shot. If they don't have one perhaps they can order a new one for me. I tried turning the volume down and that only made a difference if it was 1/4 or lower.
Phone mode audio quality and volume.
Well, my Atrix has decent audio on speaker phone mode, but the audio out on the ear piece is a bit scratchy on the highs if turned up to what most would consider a mid volume level. I have to keep the volume down lower than I would like to avoid the scratch.
The phone mic is also very bass heavy. This phone is a great computer, but as a phone it has audio issues, and is bass heavy on TX and RX audio, regardless of EQ settings.
Currently considering if it should go back, as I need a good sounding phone.
Anyone else underwhelmed with the phone audio clarity?
**FIXED**
EDIT: Under settings, Call settings, "Noise suppression" was defaulted to "normal" Turning this to "off" made a massive improvement in all call audio (in a normal non-noisy environment). Now phone has decent call audio.
Hope this helps someone else... This had me concerned.
I had tried changing the option for Noise Suppression to 'Off', but it didn't make any difference for me. I took the phone into ATT and they replaced it without hassle. The new phone sounds much clearer.
I had the exact same problem with my pre-ordered unit. Went into a AT&T store today, and they were reluctant to replace it. After trying to sell accessories, they opened another one, and it sounded the same, so I left.
I went to a larger store and tried their floor model, which was perfect. The rep mentioned that they just received an e-mail about bad speakers, and replaced it without a problem (except trying to push more accessories).
So if you're picking one up, try the speaker first.
Just wanting to clarify, are those with the scratchy audio problem referring to the "earpiece" speaker or the hands free "speaker phone" speaker?
My speaker phone mode sounds great, only had earpiece issues.
And, does anyone know to which speaker the emailed "bad batch" notice was about?

Thanks for that.
I had the same problem. After reading the response, went back to Radioshack and got my phone replaced. Now it sounds good.
I had the same problem with mine as well. Very bad scratchy/rattle sound at high volumes. Had the phone swapped out and the new one is perfect.
Sound quality isn't quite as good as my Samsung Focus; Motorola seems to make things unnecessarily bassy but its clear and usable.
I just picked up a set of the Sony noise-cancelling headphones for use with my bootloader-unlocked Xperia Z3. So far, they appear to work in the sense that the feature is available, but I'm underwhelmed with the quality. When I switched the noise cancelling feature on in the audio settings, the noise from my refrigerator was reduced by somewhere around 50%. I tried loading up an "airplane engine sound" video on YouTube but oddly enough the noise cancelling did nothing with this whatsoever. I eventually realized that my laptop was in front of me, the fridge was behind me, and the microphones on the noise-cancelling headphones face backwards. I really think it's a design flaw for them to be so directional, but hopefully this means that in a few days when I'm actually on a plane and the engine sound is all around me, it'll work better. I'll update then. For now, the main point is that unlocking doesn't remove this feature.
Thanks!

Hey, thanks for your post. Can you please confirm your month long or so experience with the noise cancelling heeadphones now? Is the noise cancelling quality really good and worth paying the premium for this phone and buying the headphones separately?
Or do you think that silicon earbuds do a better job by noise isolation? Thanks for reading.
What unit/model of Sony Noise Cancelling Headphone are you using?
Hi there!
My Galaxy Note 4 has quite perceptible hissing / white noise coming out from loudspeaker when something is playing, even if sound level is set to 0.
Has anyone else this problem? Should I ask for repair/replacement? or there is hope that Lollipop update will fix it?
youtube.com/watch?v=bkCsqFlEUuA
Thanks!
I can hear a similar sound on my note 4, but I wouldn't call it terrible.
the noise a Samsung 2A charger makes is far worse.
I have good ears, but I can't hear the sound unless I put the back of my phone to my ear.

My Note 4 and my friend's Note 4 does same but, doesn't bother me at all.
Tried now my old phones: S2, S3, S4 and they all do some similar noises.
Hi guys, thanks for replied! Note 4 belongs to my wife, she complained me about this. And in fact this hissing is recognizable from 20-30 cm in quiet room. For comparison my Note 3 has almost no sound at all even if you put your ear next to the loudspeaker. So it looks like common deffect for Note 4... this is bad because I spend so much time convincing my wife to switch from iPhone

Well it's not really a defect, you can hear it only when you listen to something and you put the sound to 0 or after you press on a something, but it's switching off shortly after the playback of the sound (when you click on an icon or key).
It's just the sound the speaker makes when is on, but when you turn up the volume even a little from 0 you will not hear it anymore.

Actually it is not a case with my wife's Note 4. When we set the sound level to 1, hissing changes the pattern, but is still there and almost the same loud this "imperfection" is defect for me, it is like famous hissing in the headphones, it impairs the perception of the sound content. There is no excuses to have it in the modern devices. It is minus to Galaxy Note 4. If I would review this phone I would definitely pay attention to it.
What do you think is is hardware or software issue?

I guess it's hardware, probably the speakers they used on the Note 4 just makes that noise I tried 2x Note 4 and the noise is identical.

Well, if this is hardware problem then it is not fixable. This is bad. Nevertheless thanks for reply! Actually I have one more question, do you have this kind of hissing / white noise when you record video? Because I have, every time I film something on Note 4 even in an absolutely quite room I always have strong background hissing / white noise! Do you have it?
I have a galaxy note 4 and listened to all my music on this phone via leads and BT. I can confirm there is now an issue with this sound which in my case has come about only recently when I upgraded to Lollipop. Until then the sound was fantastic - now it has a kind of whirring background noise which starts when any playback is started and stops a couple of seconds after stopping. This noise was definitely not apparent before. I still have my old galaxy S3 which I have compared this with - the old S3 does have a very low continual hiss but this is constant and also inaudible when playing music at any volume. The Note 4 used to be like this but is now appalling and I cannot listen to it!
OP - Can I confirm you are running Lollipop Android?
Dropped phone, solved problem!
Horrible hissing sound! Unbearable especially when ran through an amplified system like car audio. I have tried multiple headphones and sound systems, I even swapped the device at my carrier and sent it to Samsung TWICE! Samsung swapped components to no avail both times. Also broke and fixed my s-pen on a random side note lol.
All of that aside I fixed problem! DO NOT TRY THIS SOLUTION!!!
After simply just living with the hissing problem for a few months to the point where I just pulled an old HTC Ruby out of storage to use as my all around MP3 player I accidentally fixed the problem.
SOLUTION: I dropped my phone flat on its back from standing texting position onto a hard laminate floor that covers a concrete foundation and it works perfactly now lol! Case: UAG.
That having been said it looks like a confirmed hardware problem and does not sound like a permanent fix... :crying:
Hello, I recently bought the Note 4 snapdragon variant (910F) and the rear speaker had a terrible hissing and static pop after audio being played. I returned the phone because of it, it was unacceptable. I really liked the phone so I heard that the Exynos variant has a different sound DAC.
Can some Exynos variant owner check for me if the speaker is hissing too? Like lock your phone (it should make a lock sound) then immediately put the rear speaker right next to your ear and listen if you can hear some static noise and then "click".
Thank you!

I have the exynos variant of the samsung A5 2016 and after updating to marshmallow or rooting it(somewhere between those two processes) I noticed my phone made this static noise when I turn off the screen.
While in a call and my screen is off I hear the noise again
Also when I plug my earphones and I pause the music the sound is still there.
But when I turn the screen on the sound stops...
Don't know the reason for this and I hope it can be fixed somehow.
PS. sorry for bad english
I haven't seen anything posted on this and so, I'm hoping it's just my phone. Received my LG V20 last night and the first oddity was an audio one. When the T-Mobile jingle came on at boot, I noticed that the jingle had a slight crackling/distortion effect to it but I didn't think anything of it. Got the rest of the phone setup and I'm super happy with it but the issue showed up again as soon as I tried to test out the speaker outloud via YouTube. Anything with a high frequency results in crackling and people's voices have a slightly robotic effect to them. The issue isn't isolated to YouTube because it happens with anything.
It's not noticeable... if let's say you have the phone a few feet away from you at mid volume but it's super obvious when holding it and irritating when having it against my ear. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm thinking about stopping by a T-Mobile store to see if they have a model one that I can test out. Hoping it's not just a crappy speaker featured in a very audio featured phone. Thanks for any feedback ya'll.
Sounds like you have a bad unit. I haven't heard anyone mention the same issue so I think you should warranty it.
Mine has begun doing it whenever i run an app or a video. Even with the volume turned all the way down. For example, writing this post is producing very noticable static from the speaker even with all audio muted, all keypress audio disabled and haptic feedback disabled. Opening a game like clash of clans produces noise at the same level as a mistuned television.
I get the distortion as well on my T-Mobile variant.
Same issue
My phone just started with the cracking noise, but mines sounds like the speaker has blown out!! T moblie as well! Please post what you guys plan to do next
I have a Verizon variant and mine does the same thing. Recorded video of my daughters softball game and noticed the blown out speaker sound i was getting. Seems like poor quality speakers possibly.
Same Problems
I have a T-mobile LG V20 also coming from the Note 7 and tonight my speaker has the same static & blown speaker sound on high or low volume everything was fine until I used headphones and etc today I don't know if this had something to do with it or not I am really hoping this is not a big issue across the board. I am gonna swap it out and pray for the best LG is my last hope since there are no other good android phablets out right now.
Out of the blue
I have the Sprint version and mine just started cracking out of no where tonight for no reason. I was listening to music but it wasn't even turned all the way up. What in the world?
I have only had my V20 for 7 days and now the speaker is doing the same thing everyone else is saying (distortion, cracking, sounds like a blown speaker). Called LG they said factory reset it but that did not resolve. Went to Best Buy where they thought at first it was a software issue but quickly realized it is a hardware issue. Tried calling LG back but cant get through as the line says all circuits are busy. I just turned in my replacement Note 7 and now I think LG may have inherited the Samsung curse.
My phone just started doing the same thing!!! I was just listening to a song on SoundCloud and the sound suddenly became distorted. I tried YouTube and and same thing happened. I restarted the phone and the T-Mobile jingle was... You guessed it: distorted. Idk what happened for this functioning model to suddenly start doing this, but I'm very disappointed. I'll be going back to the T-Mobile store to try to turn it in and get it replaced.
You guys are scaring me. I really hope this isn't widespread!
My ATT LG v20 is audio has gone crazy just as described by others out of the blue!! Im not looking forward to the ttio to the ATT store as I doubt if anyone will knowcwhats going on! Has anyone's phone audio been fixed? The distortion. crackling makes the phone useless and makes me cry!!!#
Too many people are reporting this problem. Meaning that eventually we're all going to experience this. This does not sound good at all.
Happen to me today. Just turned on DAC and it went away. T mobile.
ughhh

Ugh I had high hopes but this did NOT work for me. Sprint. I waited so long for this phone and now dealing with this ....makes me pretty upset. I got mine on the 25th and it started on Nov 1st.
trashy audio after awhile WILL put me off on this device...
I have noticed it seems to get worse the more the battery is drained.
Got mine on 10/28 and until now (knock wood) the sound is pretty good!
T-Mo Variant
LG V20 speaker issues
I was within the 14 day Best Buy return period. They have ordered me a new V20. I'll see if it was just a fluke??
Some posts on reddit suggest that the speaker becomes crappy when the phone is being charged.
When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Google Pixel 3 XL's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
5 out of 10 for call quality. The person on the other end says my voice has a high pitched static to it when I use the phone itself or if I am using the USB buds. Doesn't happen when I am on bluetooth so I would say it may be hardware related in some way.
Wifi calling works well: no complaints about how I sound. I could hear the person on the other end clearly. (Google Pixel 3 XL.)
Call quality has been great. No complaints.

Same here. Landline quality for me.
Depends on carrier and service area for both ends of the call. My experience so far is it's not any better or worse than my LG V20 was.
I have a faint static sound on phone calls through the ear speaker. It sounds kind of like ground loop feedback you could get in audio electronics.
the first person i called said i sound good without asking, and when i called myself i didnt hear static. wifi calling seems to work on att too. this is coming from nexus 6 (no P)
It's good on my end but yesterday I was told by the other person it was horrible. She said she could hear every little sound going on around me painfully loud
Exceptional Call Quality - better than my Samsung Note 9 by far. I called my son the other day and without saying anything about being on a new phone, he mentioned how great the call was - clear and crisp - I noticed it too - on my first call - Helps that I am on ATT and Enhanced LTE services are working.
I am really happy about that - Enhanced LTE and WiFi Calling did not work on my Note 9 but they work GREAT on my Pixel 3 XL -
I have the same issue. Worked with Google support on the issue and they came to the conclusion it was defective.
Started RMA process, but after reading all the issues people are having with RMAs I'm just going to return the 3XL.
As for the noise, it's a constant static noise only heard while using the handset on calls. Sounds like an old flip phone that is on a call while being charged.

This Pixel 3 XL is Project Fi ready according to Google but WiFi calls VoLTE isn't working it doesn't matter if you're connected to T-Mobile, it won't work, so call quality on Project Fi
I'm getting coil whine like noises during calls, likely from poor shielding to EMI, otherwise calls are clear on my end. RMA'd it but I suspect the replacement will have the same flaw.
Received my Pixel 3XL last week. Called a friend who uses an iPhone (7 I think), and I have never experienced a phone call so clear...ever. It was shockingly clear. Both of us are on AT&T in a metropolitan area. Also, my previous phone was a Pixel XL. Another thing: after the clarity shocked me I pulled my phone away from my head and looked at the screen, and there was a tiny "HD" beside the call duration.

Distortion issues if using hotspot and making a call over Bluetooth while in my car...have to disconnect the hotspot and then quality is normal.
Very crisp voice calls, maybe in part to Three 4G voice data?
Hands free calls through the supplied headphones is also fantastic
I'm having horrible phone calls and I'm using Project Fi with a Pixel 3. Sent Google some feedback and took a survey so we'll see what happens. Overall super disappointed in both the service and the phone. I'm starting to regret switching from my Oneplus
Pixel 3xl poor call quality
People on the other end cannot hear me out hear static. My pixel 3xl I'd over well old
