You will more than likely need to format data. This will cause you to loose everything. But that is what you are seeing, those folders, are your data. Just encrypted.
Also make sure you are on the latest version of TWRP. Sometimes the older unsupported version had encryption errors.
Omg this saddens me! So there's no way I am unable to at least retrieve my pictures?

Simple test are:
- change boot partition
- reflash system
- Say goodbye too all
Got the same problem, Solved After reboot in twrp and enter the good decryption code
I'm right in the middle of reflashing. I am trying everything else before I do say goodbye to my pictures! :crying:
How did you figure out the decryption code?

First time entering in twrp after flashing update, I did not get folder to flash magisk, did a reboot and get it, just a bad encryption code I think
Did u flash rom or anything else before getting this problem ?
Yup, I sure did! 4am couldn't sleep so I thought I would finally put a fingerprint mod on; which I have done this before with no issues. For the life of me, I don't remember which mod I tried to install thru Magisk.
My phone is currently stuck on "Phone is starting"
I also think it's time to look into some sort of automatic back up service..... Got any ideas?

Use msmdownloadtool, have u tried using magisk uninstall in twrp with zip file ? Then boot and uninstall the "****in" fantastic module... maybe it works
I did try to uninstall Magisk in twrp using adb shell. I never had any luck with that msmdownloadtool and not only that it relocks your bootloader.

Good luck !!
I saw this happen when I used the official TWRP app.
It went away when I used this TWRP. Hope that helps.
I'm glad you already know not to use the MSM tool. Too many people jump straight to this.....
You just need to boot the correct recovery and your data will decrypt, and you will be able to back it up to a PC, then you can reload your ROM via TWRP or Fastboot to get the phone bootable again. So now it's a question of what ROM were you running before. Do you need a recovery with the latest security patch or something older? What TWRP are you running. Try 3.3.1-6 psychen6 linked too first. Boot that image from Fastboot. See if your password/pin will work to decrypt your data.

You need to flash a modified boot.img for it to be able to decrypt properly, there's a link in section 2 of my guide:

There is an updated TWRP that you can flash that is able to read/write and doesn't ask for a password.

Disable forced-encryption, and decrypt your 6P first. Here is my tutorial: http://www.droidorigin.com/decrypt-nexus-6p/

It is an issue with TWRP right now. It wouldn't work until you have disabled forced-encryption and decrypted your device.

So does twrp work at all with the n previews? How does one root the previews without twrp? Looking at installing the fourth one, but I'm not willing to lose root.
I accidentally let the OTA try to update from Preview 3 to 4. It stuck on the TWRP splash screen 3.0.2-0 (I think). It didn't seem to fail or anything but it just would never go past that splash screen. I was being dumb, updating without access to a C to A cable so I thought I was screwed but I decided to try something else out. I hit the BP Tools button on the Bootloader menu and for some reason that booted my phone up like normal. I then tried to see if I could boot it up normally. No luck, same TWRP splash screen. BP Tools worked again, but I know its some developer setting and I don't want to mess with anything that could mess me up later. Does anyone know how to get past the TWRP screen? Also anyone know why BP Tools would boot but the regular boot wouldn't work? I guess this is what I get for being a dumbass. I knew I shouldn't but I get so damn excited about updates!
Thanks a lot.

if you have a backup (titanium or nandroid), or don't mind starting from scratch you can make TWRP work with DP4 by:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
There's got to be a way to get around the encryption problem without decrypting the phone...
Would this work: when twrp asks for passcode to decrypt, say skip. Then take the SuperSU zip from my computer and put it on my phone via USB, and flash it from twrp.
Would it work even though twrp can't read my storage?
If your phone is encrypted, the only twrp that works is 3.0.0.0
You can use it to adb sideload supersu zip and root the phone. But won't be able to mount my partitions as it cant decrypt the phone.

One thing to try is formatting the internal storage to make sure you have a clean start. TWRP wipes /data without wiping userdata by default; to completely wipe the internal storage you have to go into the format data wipe where you must type "yes" to confirm instead of a slider. Sometimes leftover files can cause permissions problems and roms fail to boot. It is more common on other phones than this one, but I've seen some people report your problem before here too.
If you do this, obviously make sure you back up all the files you care about on internal storage to a microSD or off device. Also make sure you have rom/gapps to flash and a working TWRP backup stored on a microSD, or you've verified you can USB copy with MTP or adb push files from a computer to your phone before formatting. Don't find out after wiping and formatting that your computer is missing something it needs to copy files to your phone properly when your phone is booted into TWRP, test it first if you're going this route. Otherwise you could be stuck with a blank phone and nothing to flash on it.
I do this every once in a while just to keep internal storage from getting too cluttered from chronic flashing; just be careful about how you go about it.
Okay, I can try that.

TWRP 3.1 is out. I doubt that's your problem since you're flashing successfully and failing to boot, but updating recovery is something else to check off the list.
Are you on the L or M bootloader? It changed. Just looking for anything that might be causing the trouble.

Fastboot says what bootloader version you're on close to the little reclining robot, but I think it displays it a bit differently. A0.4C trailed by a date if I recall correctly.
You could enter that command in TWRP's built-in terminal. I think the terminal is under the Advanced menu. That should get you the same output.

sounds like ur in a twrp loop.. are you checking to see if system is getting mounted in twrp?
there are a few ways to fix a twrp loop, try booting into recovery using the vol down method, and see if just hitting reboot works,
if not, fastboot commands that address this would be fastboot erase etc; fastboot erase misc ; fastboot erase fota ; and then reboot and see if it boots.
be aware boot up times take a lot longer then usual when you root, as the aboot is a little slower.
you could also try the twrp file manager route and delete the above directories also, etc/misc/fota/cache
if you have never done a FORMAT data with twrp you need to do that 1st and remove encryption as the stock rom is encrypted and will not boot after root.
Wipe using format data, type yes, then wipe the directories i mentioned and then flash the stock rom mentioned by the other member then reboot and let it sit for 15min. If it dosn't instantly shoot you back to twrp then ur good, just wait wait wait for that long 1st boot to complete.
Hey everyone, I need some help.
I have Magisk installed, and wanted to preserve root acces throughout the update (may security patch, ~80MB). I used this guide to do it, uninstalled Magisk, installed it on 2nd slot during phase 2, rebooted: bootloop. Stuck in an endless cycle: the kernel loads, but always reboots during the andorid one boot animation.
I'm looking for a way to make it functional while not losing my data, or a way to copy my data to a PC before flashing.
What can I do now?
Thanks in advance.

You can choose to not wipe your data.
It's the "flash all except storage.bat"
You can download the last firmware here
http://en.miui.com/getrom.php?r=333&m=yes&app=false
You must have fastboot on your PC windows or Linux
So if you have a Windows just search how to install fastboot on Windows there's some great one on xda
Unzip the firmware open the flash all except storage bat
Remove both lines that contains
-OEM unlock
-OEM lock
Otherwise your data will be wiped and as you use magisk you want an unlocked bootloader
Open a powershell windows where the .bat file is
Then type without the quotes
"./flash_all_except_storage.bat"
Flashing procedure will take a few minutes on system partition but don't freak out
Once it's done reboot you'll be on 9.5.11 ROM version
You'll receive a 60mb ota to have the last one which is 9.11.13
You can boot TWRP to flash magisk now
And on next update download the last firmware
9.5.13 should be on the first link I gave you (there is always a delay between ota that are just patch and a full firmware that contains all the files)
Flash the boot.img or just reflash the ROM like above apply ota and reflash magisk
I ended up in the same situation but I think it's a technical problem where magisk is not concern I will not go into details but anyway this method is safe
JUST NEVER FORGET TO REMOVE THE OEM LOCK AND UNLOCK LINES since may update this will factory reset phone
ALWAYS USE THE "flash_all_except_storage" file
If you have some more questions I'm there

Really nice to hear. Have fun with this little Beasty device
I recently flashed my 6T to stock from EvolutionX and locked the bootloader, and somehow in the process, it seems my keyboard isn't able to display or type any emojis. The steps I followed are:
HTML:
1. fastboot reboot bootloader
2. fastboot boot twrp
3. flash latest OOS
4. reboot bootloader
5. fastboot boot twrp
6. flash OOS
7. boot system
8. reboot bootloader
9. fastboot oem lock
10. boot system and setup (sign in to google, etc)
Is there any step that I missed, or any way to recover this without rooting/unlocking again?

Is there any step that I missed, or any way to recover this without rooting/unlocking again?

Reflash your ROM through stock recovery ..
You're missing the reserve partition cause you've flashed through twrp..
If you still dont have emoji
root your phone and flash this module

Maybe I'm missing something? The only options I see when I'm recovery are reboot and wipe data/cache

Yes you're missing the essential you evidently need TWRP to do that...

Local upgrade
You could also just run msmdownloadtool, it will reset the device to full stock. There is a version for 10.3.0, just run it and upgrade.

I thought I had to use stock recovery to flash this. Can I just fastboot boot twrp and flash it from there?

From the settings menu in the os right? I tried that and it kept asking me to move the upgrade file to the root of the internal storage, like it didn't see it or something

This is a T-Mobile device that has been converted to international fw. Would I use the international 10.3.0 msm file?

No luck using the latest official fw from OnePlus website. Is there anything else left to try?

Correct. Flashed using local upgrade from inside the os and still didn't fix it.
Edit: after uninstalling updates for Gboard they returned. Thanks everyone for all the replies!
