Does anyone know why my Omnia 2 gets weak signal strength on At&t. I rarely get the 3g network and, at most, get 1 bar. However, the internet works fine and I love the phone but don't know if I need to go to Verizon to get better reception.
Tried At&t support but, other than upgrading the sim card, they won"t do anything with a non-at&t device. And since it was bought before the phone was launched in the U.S. I can't get support from Samsung. Are there some settings on the phone that can be changed to improve reception? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - thanks.
Here's the network specs for the phone: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 850/1900 MHz, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA5.76 Mbps

Try changing your band settings to WCDMA then 850+1900. Works great for my Touch HD T8285.
almost there - thanks
Thanks for your reply. But, after surfing the net I still can't figure out how to change these settings on the Omnia 2, ok I don't know how to do it on any phone. Is this something easily done, and if so, how?

Not sure on your phone but on mine go to settings, then phone, then band settings.
no band settings there either
Not that easy. I get phone, then settings, then the options are general, voice call, video call and message.
General sub folders are: call cost; caller id; own number; fixed dialing; auto answer; closed user group
Voice Call sub folders are: call barring, call forwarding, call waiting
Video Call - n/a
Message sub folders are call broadcast message, wap push message, voice mail, send text message options
I tried looking at the connections menu which yields:
My Internet - add a new modem; edit my proxy server; manage existing connections.
Manage existing allows you to change from media net or other connections and when you do that there are no options for changing band. Also if you try to create a new connection there is still no mention of band.

I am not sure if your phone has 850mhz, as far as I Know the omnia 2 i8000 has 900/1900/2100 compatibility and maybe that is why you are getting so weak signal,
Only the Bell Canada Omnia2 has 850mhz + 1900mhz so unless you have this one it won't work well with at&t 3G.

This is true, I have the GT I8000l version and the band settings are in the Omnia Settings/Network Settings/Band settings menu -- Mine is set to Automatic, though there are other choices including the WCDMA, GSM 900/1800 and GSM 850/1900. You must also enable HSPDA setting as well (same Network menu) and then reset your phone.
I get Great 3G+ / HSPDA speeds almost everywhere around Harrisburg, PA "EXCEPT" in my own HOME location (only Edge ) Just that I am behind a mountain so.....
Anyway, this lack of Home location 3G+ is causing me to place my Omnia 2 (Bell Canada version) up for sale as I was expecting 3G in my own home !!!! (probably going to Ebay this weekend. The phone is great though and the screen (OLED) is INCREDIBLE !!! I am running SPB mobile shell 3.0 (Lite rom installed) so phone is quite zippy without the widget mess though the original Bell rom can be reinstalled. ( I have on DVD ) Really ticked though about the lack of 3G* at home so I may be looking for HD2 or such --and settle for EDGE speed.
Thanks to XDA developers for considering and supporting some Non HTC phones such as OMNIA 2

I have the original Omnia II with the 1900mhz band and have not had a single problem with excellent 3G speeds in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
I'm getting the exact same signal strengths I was getting when I had the ATT Fuze - which does have BOTH the 850 and the 1900 mhz bands.

Chicago might primarily be 1900mhz but Dallas (my home) and probably where the original poster is located is 850mhz so the i8000L from Bell would be a better choice and probably for everyone else so you could never be limited to 1900mhz.

I loved the Omnia 2 but the lack of Roms and not having xda support (not such much anymore now i guess) made me sell it and go back to my Rogers Magic. I'll probably wait for the HTC Obsession or maybe the HTC Bravo as my next phone i definitely wanna check out Windows 7 when it comes out.

can you post your network settings?
I've had pretty good reception in the NYC area on 3G for the past 6 months... until today. Now my phone can get 3G and 3g+ reception but I can't get any data over 3G anymore. When I step down to EDGE, I can get data again. iPhone users seem to be fine. Anyone else having these problems in the NYC area?
Hello, thank you in advance for whatever help you can give me. I purchased the AT&T galaxy s4 and I am trying to use it in Colombia with my provider Tigo which runs on 1900mhz but I have problems connecting to the internet.
This is my second galaxy s4, the first one I had I opened the AWS bands, selected WCDMA/GSM Mode Only on the service menu and my internet was working just fine. Unfortunately I lost my first phone and bought another one, and went through the same procedures but my mobile data is not working for the most part while it is connected to HSPAP.
If I select GSM only on the srvice menu then it navigates, but at 2G speeds. What seems strange is that I am getting great signal and when I go to about device/status, it shows it is connected to hspap, and gprs, but I dont have an internet connection except at a couple of places, for some reason when I am in my house it works (wifi off), but when I leave my house it doesnt work.
If you have had a similar problem an were able to figure it out I will appreciate any thoughts you may have. It is frustrating having this phone and not being able to use the internet.
Thank you.
Hello,
I have been using my Meizu MX5 for about two months now without the 4G network working. I have recently updated to the latest firmware and I am currently running Flyme OS 4.5.2.7A and that has not solved any issues either.
I have checked that the phone settings are configured properly.
Network Mode is set to "4G First".
The phone is pending between, H-, H and H+ connection (3G I believe?)
I have checked with my provider and these are the following frequencies which should be providing 4G in my country (Sweden) for the provider:
800Mhz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2600MHz
Other providers have the same frequencies as well.
I have also gotten two new SIM-Cards during this period of time without it solving any issues. I have tried the SIM cards in some other phones and they get 4G connection without any issues.
I have been in contact with Meizu customer support in China and after some random troubleshooting of factory resetting and reinstalling the same firmware on the phone without solving anything.
They have also provided me information regarding the different bands/frequencies which the phone operates on:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900MHz)
WCDMA/HSPA+: Band 1/2/8 (900/2100MHz)
FDD LTE: Band 1/3 (1800/2100MHz)
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39 (no freqency specified)
TD-LTE: Band 38/39/40/41 (no frequency specified)
I am not 100% sure on how this works but according to the information I am given, the phone and my provider share at least one frequency for the 4G network and therefore I do not understand why it is not working.
I am sure that it is software related and thus I won't send my phone back to China (4-8 weeks delivery time and all expenses has to be paid by me) for them to troubleshoot.
Anyone here who has knowledge which could give me an answer?
Kind regards,
Martin
Hi mate.
I had this problem but upgraded to new firmware late last night and it came on. Thankfully!
Give it a try
Hi,
I have checked the upgrade app on the phone and it says I have the latest firmware.
Which firmware version are you running?
Kind regards,
Martin
Maybe it is an APN related problem. Look if you have the same data as in the other phones that 4G works

Hi iicc,
Thank you for the reply.
I have checked the APN settings about four-five times and I can't find any inconsistencies. I have even crosschecked it with a support technician from my provider.
The only things I can think of is either my anntenna being gimped, that the firmware is not properly developed or that somehow there's trash in my system and that my phone maybe needs a complete wipe and reinstallation.
After the upgrade to firmware 4.5.2.7A the phone does not even hint on trying to connect to 4G. Pre-upgrade it atleast connected to 4G for about 5 seconds and then went down to 3G.
Kind regards,
Martin

Let me try to come up with something that might be your problem. If you are using 3 as your mobile provider then they use FDD-LTE band 7 & 20 none of which are supported by the MX5 and 3 are also using TDD-LTE band 38 which is supported by the MX5, but might not be available in your area.
If you are on Net4Mobility then they use FDD-LTE 3,7,8 & 20 of which only 3 is supported, so it could that in your area there is no coverage with band 3.
If you are on Telia, the story is pretty much the same as Net4Mobility as they use FDD-LTE 3,7 & 20.
In order to get more from your phone. You can open up google and search for 'meizifan eu' and go to the website. They have a pretty good description of how you install the international version of FlyMe on your MX5, the international version is called 4.5.2.7i. I believe it activates some other FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE bands.
1800Mhz band is a short range, higher bandwidth frequency which usually is less common and given that it has a short range it most likely isn't available in your area.

Thank you for the reply nasty_suicide!
I am using Comviq Tele2 as provider, which should use the Telia net.
This is what I believe as well, but I really thought there was no way to flash the international version onto the phone and was about to abandon ship by buying a new phone yet again.
I will try to install the International version as soon as I have time to follow through the steps. I have found the guide on Meizufans.
Once I have installed the international version I'll let everyone know the outcome.
Kind regards,
Martin
Hi Hawdes,
I've exactly the same problem as you do, please post back once you instal I version. I was planning to do so but since I already have everything installed I didn't want to go through trouble for nothing.
What were the results of this? Is it true that firmware can affect the signal received?
upgraded to the latest firmware yet?
Samsung galaxy s7 4G problem
What about in Samsung galaxy s7 version of Flyme OS?? I cannot see 4G option.
So I have a free spot on my family plan and was thinking I could just get a BYOD sim and stick it in a 4G LTE stick for use with my Android HU. All the ones I have seen has compatible miss all the relevant bands for US use, specifically for AT&T. Does anyone in the US have any suggestions?
I second this thread for Verizon.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
So I finally got my dongle and SIM card and it is working and pretty much without any extra apps or root.
I purchased the HUAWEI E397 4G usb dongle 100M data card Unlocked 4G LTE MODEM B397Bu-501 - the important part is the -501 at the end they have several models with different band compatibility and the 501 was the one with AT&T compatibility.
On my Eonon GA2167 after I installed the stick the Cellular Networks entry showed up automatically in the options, I was able to edit the APN data there (you will likely want to be connected to wifi when you do this, if it's trying to provision data you wont be able to select APN data). I just copied the APN data from my phone and it worked. Using Cricket (AT&T).
I had some trouble getting it to work at first, it would recognize the USB stick allow me to edit APN and then connect to the network but I had no data connectivity. Eventually it started working. Not sure if this was after I copied every APN setting (previously I had just entered name, apn and the MNC and MCC) once I added the MMS/MMSC data and APN type it started working a little after that. But it could also been on the network side since it was a new SIM I had just activated hours earlier and had been inserted into 2 other phones (to help try to activate it).
Anyway if someone wants a stick that works on AT&T bands in the US this should work. The headunit only shows a 3G connection and reports WCDMA with signal check lite, but I think that's due to the firmware of the HU not being setup for 4G LTE, with a speed test I get about 8-9 Mbps down and 6-7 up, not super fast but I believe that is LTE speeds since HSPDA doesn't support uploads that fast, also the stick itself shows a cyan LED with is meant to be for LTE connected network. Either way its way faster than the wifi connected to the hotspot on my phone (not sure if its the wifi antenna or what but wifi performance is very subpar on this unit). Also it connects quicker on startup (and does so automatically) than wifi.

Thank you for this info! Where did you buy yours?
Has anyone tried this on a Joying_JY-UM135N or JY-UM135N2?
When I look at this listing on aliexpress, further down, it lists a number of "Network Bands", including the -501. How should I interpret this? Does the modem support all those bands, or do I have to specify when ordering? When I search for "huawei e397" on Amazon, it shows me a -53 version. Is this the same as the -501, or different? I'm also curious as to why the only hit I get on aliexpress is a listing in the Netherlands. ??

There are 5 different variants (2 off which offer CDMA/EVDO for 3/2G). They are all the same base stick but vary depending on bands supported.
This website details each on and the bands its supports: https://www.4gltemall.com/huawei-e397-4g-lte-mobile-internet-key.html
I bought mine from Aliexpress, you will want to make sure you specifically get the -501 for AT&T I believe the -53 supports some T-Mobile bands.
You might want to hold off till I can report more tho. After initially getting it working, it is proving to be inconsistent, I'm not sure if its a low power issue (I have ordered a Y USB cable) or something else. The -501 don't support the full compliment of AT&T bands and I'm not sure if that is the problem, it is missing band 2 for 3G and Bands 2, 4 and 12 (though 17 is kind of part of 12). I know in my area they use Band 2 for both LTE and 3G and I'm not sure if that is my issue. I seem to struggle to get it to work at home but if I am driving around town it will pop up and connect, FWIW once its connected its solid even at home until I disconnect and try to reconnect.
I will update has I make progress.
I have the exact same head unit and have the exact same issue, except I live in Australia and I'm pretty sure I have a spare Telstra (AU telco) dongle lying around, so it literally just works right out of the box? I thought these do support 4G, or at least I thought I saw it advertised like that (or maybe those are the Android 8.0 ones). What else have you done with your head unit OP, not many ppl it seems have this model and look to modify it lol.
It supports 4G speeds, when I get a connection in a 4G area on a band my dongle supports, the icon on the headunit shows 3G, but I get 4G speeds. I thinks its just a case of the limited firmware not supporting the icons and reporting for 4G but since all data transfer is handled by the stick then it works at those speeds.
A bit of an update. I bought a USB Y cable in case lower power was an issue, for the first 4 times after getting the cable things worked right away at boot up with no interference, that was a couple of days ago, since then it hasn't happened since. I am likely going to order a Momentum 313U, its AT&T branded and supports its full compliment of bands, but no idea on Android support. The only 2 things I could find about Android support was a generic listing on Aliexpress showing what appeared to be a 313U and stating it was an Android device and a Pilipino website saying it wasn't recognized by an Android Tablet (I think that's what google translate was telling me).
Failing that I will order a Huawei 303C, it supports the full compliment of AT&T 3G bands and is on the confirmed working list. No 4G but I think AT&T still has full coverage of HSPDA in my area along with LTE.
I have the exact same head unit from eonon and purchased the AT&T usb velocity stick off their site and plugged it into the USB port and it does not recognize it. The led is lit up on the stick but nothing on the head unit. It would be nice since this one has external antenna ports and supports LTE. Is there any software I need to install on the head unit?
Another update: I ended up buying a Huawei E303c stick, works on all the AT&T 3G bands and I haven't had an issue with it at all. max download speed has been around 3 Mbps but that is enough for voice commands, Pandora and navigation so I'm happy. I got closer 10+Mbps with the 4G stick, but I only worked some of the time (I think due to AT&T using multiple 4G bands in my area and the stick not supporting them all).
Anyway the Huawei E397 is up for sale and I'll suffer with 3G speeds.

I just got a Huawei E303c stick for AT&T. I plugged it into my generic Atcgfheny Oreo head unit and it shows no 3G icons. It blinks a blue light, but not connectivity on the head unit. Is there something else I need to configure? I can't find any settings in the menu.
Hi,
I have a Honor 8 Lite, which I bought from China. I'm in the USA (NY) now and I was with H20 Wireless (runs on ATT) with no problems before. I was able to use mobile data just fine. (I think it was on 4G or 3G, not sure but either way I was able to use internet).
I switched over to T-mobile's senior 55+ plan yesterday which has unlimited data at 4G LTE. The number has been ported over and I can call and text with no issues. The problem is that I can not use the internet. It shows 2G on the top banner but internet does not work (can't even load a simple website). It's so weird that it went from 3/4 G to unusable 2G.
One theory is that my phone does not support 4G LTE, but I don't understand why it would go all to 2G instead of just 3/4G. I tried it on a Honor 7x (bought in the US) and internet worked fine.
I'm wondering if I can change around the settings on my phone to up it to 3/4G instead of the defunt 2G (I don't care that it's not LTE..I just need working internet). Worst comes to worst, I'll have to buy a new phone.
