Starting this thread as a warning for everyone.
I bought a newsmy carpad 3 and the unit was bricked during an update. I contacted Newsmy for any help with the unit, and to my horror received absolutely no response to my request for repair. The unit does not have any hardware button combo to get into a boot loader mode, which I would put down as a design flaw - but the lack of any communication is stark of how Newsmy would like to treat its customers, is the real bummer.
I gave the seller a 5 star rating when the unit was delivered , now ali express says I cannot change the rating. The seller has no obligation to respond back, and can sell freely in the absence of a negative feedback and the money is gone too. Overall, a lost cause.
Would recommend caution when using a site like aliexpress or a seller like newsmy. Better go with another unit or seller. Anyone has any thoughts on what I could do next, do let me know.
Why did you update it? Any particular reason?
You know those units are put together from gazillion of different hardware bits, and only one difference is enough to brick it.
I'm sure that chinese don't stick to reference design at all costs.

My 3G dongle was not working, hence tried the update. I think a hardware combo for boot loader mode is a basic necessity. This is actually the first product I have found, which broke because of software. Never happened with any of my other devices, hence my crib of a design issue.

Yes, I see. I also dont like devices with capacitive buttons, that's the reason why.
But where did you get the update from ? Did they supply it in which case they should sort it out or did you source it yourself and assume it was the correct one for your unit ?

Greetings,
I am looking to upgrade the HU in my MY09 Subaru Forester, because the stock one is hot garbage. I don't need (nor can I afford) the very top of the line models such as a $600 Pioneer.
I plan on running Car Launcher Pro as I like the simple and sleek OS, although I did just see the FCC launcher by SpeedFire. My primary uses for the HU are Torque Pro (although I may just run that from my S7), some form of navigation such as Google Maps or Wayz, as well as basic entertainment from Bluetooth, Spotify, and Pocket Casts.
A couple units I've been looking at are:
Panlelo PA-09YZ16- This was the first one I considered but I've been scared off by everyone's largely negative review of Panlelo products.
Joying JY-UL128N2- This looks like a strong candidate but I want to know more before shelling out any money.
(I would post links but since this is my first post I'm unable to do so, both units can be found on Amazon.)
Other than those two I am open to any and all suggestions if anyone has a unit they really enjoy.
So my question to you is which head unit will best fit my needs?
Thank you for your time and expertise!
Best Head unit on a budget
Thanks for starting this thread. (I'm new here too.)
How to choose between Joying, Xtrons, Erisin, etc ?
They all seem to have the same needed features, with only small variation/s, accessories, packaging.
Are they all as good/bad/faulty as each other ?
Another thing I wonder about.
IF these are all good products, why are NONE sold in reputable stores ?
Seems we can only buy these items on ebay and similar dubious places.

It's pretty much a tablet for your car. Doubt anyone would want to be liable for stupid/irresponsible drivers with tablet radios.
I've decided to buy a double din universal 7" android 8.0 head unit. After 3 days of researching i came across those 3 as the best.
I'd like to know which one do you guys recommend.
Thanks a lot.
Xtrons TE706PL
EONON GA2170
Auto Pumpkin
im also interested..
even though i like hard Buttons and vol knob more than sw Buttons, i would go with the xtrons
If you look on the backsind of the Units, xtrons has defenetly the best buildt quality.
Inside they are pretty much the same
Interesting to know what Kind of amp chip and Radio chip is used.
Thats my oppinion
Differences? Probably none.
But beware, not one of them runs Android 8. They just change a few strings to make it look like they do for marketing purposes.

Usually somewhere between 5.1 and 6.0.
The user interface they present is a dead giveaway.
The interface that Android 8 presents should look very similar to Android Auto.

Please guys don't forget to share your opinion when you receive them. Thanks a lot.
Got a notice that would have it in 5-7 days from today. Honestly, my expectations aren't super high for the "all be" here (for $300), if Spotify and Waze work that will be 90% of my use of it right there and anything else is gravy.
I ordered a $1,200 android unit that is manufactured in the USA and was bummed when on installation the unit display was dead and it had to go back for a refund, so I ended up with a $1,200 Alpine setup with Android Auto. I like it, but wouldnt mind playing with an Android unit.
The major downside I know that is coming is the need to turn on my hot spot every time I get in the truck - this will be annoying.

I haven't heard of any android ivi's being made in USA. Care to share who they are?
I actually gave up completely on getting anything decent in a "ready to go" form.
Went this route instead; https://github.com/HiKey960-Car
And somebody pointed out this really neat 10" display that would be really nice with it:

Uh, THAT is an ENORMOUS markup on an MTCD PX5. Look at the UI and the specifications.
Looks like not only audio, but prices are insane as well. Are we insane enough to go for it? .

That looks just like the eBay ones .. doubt it's made in the USA...
These days many US made products are built from parts from China, so maybe they get their head units from there and then modify/customize them here in the USA. From an economics perspective, it would make sense since getting all the parts to build them entirely here is likely not possible. I did speak to them and they have a US based operation. I also believe they are doing the OS work for their units.

If they were doing OS work, it wouldn't have the same old really crappy chinese UI.
I'm sure that they're US based, but they're a US based "logo" and reselling company. They order the "out of the box" MTCD units with a custom logo printed on it and call it good.

Nfc stickers(what I'm using) or use Tasker with root.
Brand EONON, Suck do not purchase this brand, I purchase 3 touch screen stereo the most expensive in-dash they have, 6 yrs. ago they suck, the eonon almost burn my wires on my mk5 VW, 3 yrs ago, so 3 yrs later should be enough time for EONON to fix all the bugs so I order ga5153a for my Mk5, fck drove my car windows crazy,
now I have mk6 2010 Golf GTI, Bought Ga7185A, this one drove both my windows, locking system and alarm crazy, and BTW all of eonon stereos, when going into EQ settings and want to hear the back speaker only, would not work, all speakers wires in the eonon stereos, are connected to only left and right no back speakers. this Chinese don't care if you burn your car or not, you can't sue them since their in the 3rd country.

Hello everyone,
I've been hopping back and forth on the idea of purchasing one of these products to install along with a sound system into my 2005 corolla (Got to have some kind of enjoyment in this vehicle). I've looked at "brand name" decks that offer Androids and or APTX quality Bluetooth, Spotify streaming etc and obviously the cost is up there in comparison.
That being said, these head units "offer" a lot more bang for the buck but what worries me is how long will they last? I've seen certain brands like Xtron or Atoto have a year warranty but would love for users of these units to chime in.
1: How reliable are these brands?
2: Any issues that popped up after a while?
3: Units that bricked completely, how was company support in resolving your issues?

I’m no not expert but......
1) Not very. It’s a functional trade off you get a lot more for a lot less but not for very long.
2) Hundreds. Just read these forums.
3) Forget about it. Most bricks are from trying to get root, and they won’t want to know you. The rest I’ve seen are from crap hardware or software or both. Either way. It much support or help from the mfg.

Remember 99% of folks posting are a small percentage of actual users. I researched for months prior to buying my atoto and I'm extremely happy I went with Android head unit vs Android auto or other radios. While most of the bad reviews I saw were user error.
Plus side is you can probably crack it open and fix yourself.
A few radios on amazon, you can add warranty
Hey everyone,
I have been searching and reading up on these android head units for a few weeks. Sounds like they really are hit or miss.
My Car: 2011 Toyota Highlander (no JBL amp), has oem backup camera, and oem bluetooth
I purchased the newest/greatest OKNAVI head unit (TS10 6gb ram, 128gb) on aliexpress, and had software and gps signal issues. After flashing with firmware provided by the seller among some other things they reco'ed, I am returning it.
So, here I am on a quest to buy something that works well and is dependable.
My research tells me that there are a couple better known brands with better customer support (Joying, Dasaita, and possibly Teyes). Any others that I am missing? Looking for a minimum of 4gb ram and 64gb storage. I believe the below units are all TS10 models, or at least the newer ones?
Joying: $400 including shipping
2 year warranty
Dasaita: $540 including shipping
1 year warranty
Teyes CC3: $409 including shipping
1 year warranty
I have an android phone and I want clean intuitive interface, screen mirroring, phone and music bluetooth, ability to add external amplifier (rca outputs/remote turn on), GPS nav, and steering wheel controls. It seems that all 3 units can do all of the above.
Would really appreciate everyone's opinion on which I should order based on your experiences.
Lastly, is the 4gb ram/64gb storage upgrade to 6gb ram/128 gb storage worth it? I don't care too much about space, but wondering if there is a significant difference on performance/speed.
Thanks yall!
There aren't any; you have to accept bugs, problems, and quality control luck of the draw. I'd think about these as being hobbyist devices.
You have listed resellers, not factory types. If anything you probably want to consider an MTCD/E unit, the Dasaita unit is HA MTCD/E.
Teyes and Joying are generally
FYT units. Suggest asking before you buy, so you know what you're buying. Since you're asking the question, I suggest there's more thought and reading involved.
Screen mirroring is probably going to be the trickiest. Why mirror when you have full android? Mirroring is flaky and gets broken often.

Really appreciate your honest reply as a newbie to Android head units. Totally agree I need to do much more research. I'm actually really confused about the MTCD/E units vs FYT, I'll do some reading to catch up. I think there are a lot of people in the same newbie boat as I am and a lot of the threads I have read are older so not sure how up to date that info is, as it is a changing environment.
These resellers use the same unit and customize it? I can be okay with some bugs and troubleshooting just want something that can do what is advertised. If there's anyway you could help me determine the difference between MTCD/E and FYT, I'd appreciate it. I'll be googling that tonight. There's so much info on xda, I'm just not sure what is relevant. I hate to even post this thread as someone will do the same soon, but hoping the community can provide some thoughts or recos. Thanks I'm advance bud!

Good point, tell me if screen mirroring is a necessity. I won't have a sim card for internet, my phone hotspot is 3g, and I want to have some decent NAV app. Only reason I was thinking that screen mirroring would be important.

I suggest AVOIDING screen mirroring as a requirement. This "feature" is often a hack and breaks regularly with Phone Android or iOS updates.
** If you want screen mirroring, suggest considering a genuine Android Auto head unit.
A list of officially sanctioned head unit can be found here. Anything else is a Knock off and should be avoided.
Android Auto Compatibility | Android
Android Auto works with hundreds of vehicles and aftermarket stereos. Check your compatibility here.
www.android.com
I have OKNAVI (TS10 WINDOW-THEME1) unit and I have no major issues - no freezes, runs fast, touchscreen works, there's no buzz or hum. My GPS is accurate to 2m. Original firmware from January lost GPS accuracy to 15m every so often, July firmware seems to have fixed that (strongest GPS signal is 51 and others in the 40s)
Besides not supporting NA 4G, my issues with the unit are cosmetic or functional - such as navigation voice cuts in/out instead of fade in/out, rudimentary, hard to use with only one user preset EQ. Lack of root is another. Also I wish I had an option for double press and long press steering controls like on TEYES.
After using 4GB/64GB unit, I think 3GB unit would be the minimum for Android 10 (I don't use default launcher however). If I was buying one now I would probably get 3GB Teyes CC2 Plus or CC3 just because it can be rooted and more options for steering controls, build in fan is also nice.
I think TEYES is FYE not TS10/TOPWAY like OKNAVI.
