Difference between those 3 android 8.0 head units - Android Head-Units

I've decided to buy a double din universal 7" android 8.0 head unit. After 3 days of researching i came across those 3 as the best.
I'd like to know which one do you guys recommend.
Thanks a lot.
Xtrons TE706PL
EONON GA2170
Auto Pumpkin

im also interested..

even though i like hard Buttons and vol knob more than sw Buttons, i would go with the xtrons
If you look on the backsind of the Units, xtrons has defenetly the best buildt quality.
Inside they are pretty much the same
Interesting to know what Kind of amp chip and Radio chip is used.
Thats my oppinion

Differences? Probably none.
But beware, not one of them runs Android 8. They just change a few strings to make it look like they do for marketing purposes.

Usually somewhere between 5.1 and 6.0.
The user interface they present is a dead giveaway.
The interface that Android 8 presents should look very similar to Android Auto.

Got a notice that would have it in 5-7 days from today. Honestly, my expectations aren't super high for the "all be" here (for $300), if Spotify and Waze work that will be 90% of my use of it right there and anything else is gravy.
I ordered a $1,200 android unit that is manufactured in the USA and was bummed when on installation the unit display was dead and it had to go back for a refund, so I ended up with a $1,200 Alpine setup with Android Auto. I like it, but wouldnt mind playing with an Android unit.
The major downside I know that is coming is the need to turn on my hot spot every time I get in the truck - this will be annoying.

I haven't heard of any android ivi's being made in USA. Care to share who they are?
I actually gave up completely on getting anything decent in a "ready to go" form.
Went this route instead; https://github.com/HiKey960-Car
And somebody pointed out this really neat 10" display that would be really nice with it:

Uh, THAT is an ENORMOUS markup on an MTCD PX5. Look at the UI and the specifications.

Looks like not only audio, but prices are insane as well. Are we insane enough to go for it? .

That looks just like the eBay ones .. doubt it's made in the USA...

These days many US made products are built from parts from China, so maybe they get their head units from there and then modify/customize them here in the USA. From an economics perspective, it would make sense since getting all the parts to build them entirely here is likely not possible. I did speak to them and they have a US based operation. I also believe they are doing the OS work for their units.

If they were doing OS work, it wouldn't have the same old really crappy chinese UI.
I'm sure that they're US based, but they're a US based "logo" and reselling company. They order the "out of the box" MTCD units with a custom logo printed on it and call it good.

Nfc stickers(what I'm using) or use Tasker with root.

Brand EONON, Suck do not purchase this brand, I purchase 3 touch screen stereo the most expensive in-dash they have, 6 yrs. ago they suck, the eonon almost burn my wires on my mk5 VW, 3 yrs ago, so 3 yrs later should be enough time for EONON to fix all the bugs so I order ga5153a for my Mk5, fck drove my car windows crazy,
now I have mk6 2010 Golf GTI, Bought Ga7185A, this one drove both my windows, locking system and alarm crazy, and BTW all of eonon stereos, when going into EQ settings and want to hear the back speaker only, would not work, all speakers wires in the eonon stereos, are connected to only left and right no back speakers. this Chinese don't care if you burn your car or not, you can't sue them since their in the 3rd country.

New Joying Head Unit? Tweeted Dec 5 2015

I saw this tweet
https://twitter.com/carjoying/status/673061917242564608
I can't seem to find any additional info. I just bought the currently available one so I'm really interested to see if this new one is updated android and PX4 Rockchip.
Anyone know more?
I like the higher volume button. Out of the way.
I also just had an interaction with Joying where they indicated they will have an universal 10" single din model like their VW model ready in 2 weeks.
So from my reading of Joying's stereos, these are all basically the same, but with a differently designed front on them? I see the same Android version, processor and specs on every one, really. I'm asking because I'm curious about getting one and am a little overwhelmed with options that all seem about the same.
There are different cpu specs and resolutions. Some of the units are car specific due to some integrations like the VW units with can-bus showing heat and a/c info etc. If they have a unit that is specific for your can then it probably has a nice faceplate on it. Otherwise there are the universal units.
I consider to get one for my car, so I have to wait for new version
how are teh joying units, they got them on amazon which is abig plus if theres any issues
Cool! Thanks for sharing. Have an older model and it has been pretty solid so far. Might pick up a new one for the spare car Hopefully the Bluetooth quality is fixed with the updated unit.

The 2015 model is now on their website and amazon too for $330ish.... XDA won't let me post the link right now cuz I never post.....
There's also a forum about upgrading the unit to 5.1 with software provided by Joying... I may have to order one now...
The new ones are not out yet. A few days ago they let me know the 10.1" universal unit is coming in the next week or two.
Many units on their site say 2015.
Is 1gb fast enough for these units?
I have not had any issues with mine
Plenty responsive. Boots up quick too.
what about bluetooth and wifi quality? Are hardware mods still required with these unit?
I don't know about the newest model being released, but the Bluetooth quality with the model I have does have a hint of distortion. I use a hotspot on my phone without any signal problems, so can't speak to the signal strength with trying to connect to a wifi access point.
How are they selling a 10" model? What car would that ever fit in without huge customization of the entire dash panel?
Bought it

why are they releasing new models with still 4.4.4 and 1gb RAM?

Proven and more or less stable., abundant and inexpensive. Parts on hand. Also, when the new new board show up its not hard to simply swap them.
Sure, we want new and better every week. I'm happy to have this form factor now rather than waiting for 5.1.. Simple upgrade later.

This is not about wanting new every week...KitKat is 2 and half years old...Lollipop has been out for a year an a half....Lollipop should be the bare minimum when they ship devices these days, ....and 1gb RAM on any device in the year 2016 is just plain insulting.

Respectfully, I think you are being a little naive. Many of the manufacturers are working on the next full iteration of chips and 5.1 or 6 OS versions, but do you see many yet? It only takes a card swap on the head unit to change the SOC... and really the SOC and Android version has nothing to do with most of the hardware of these headunits. Take a look at the wide range of products a company like Joying offers. Pretty slick range of OEM looking faceplates and integrations with CAN bus etc. Truthfully, many of these companies are limited by what Rockchip and the subs provide for them.
You should definitely feel personally insulted. What were they thinking?! How could they develop a product without consulting devoidx?! :silly:

Best Android Head Unit for a maximum of 500$ CAD?

Hi everyone. I have a Eonon GA2163 10" 2gb of ram and i want to upgrade. What brand should i look or which one should i stay away?
What i would like to have is:
10" screen
4gb of ram
DSP
Android update
Is this possible to have all that for 500$ CAD?
Another question: I see soooo many negatives comment about sound quality on youtube. For me, the sound quality of my Eonon is "correct". It only have a 3 bands EQ (treble, mid, bass). So a newer HU with DSP should have better sound quality...
Thanks for your help.
I've been looking around for an upgrade to my Pioneer Nav and I'm Canadian as well.
I don't think I was able to find any px6 10.2" screens with DSP for less than $650CAD. That said, the 9" versions come in at around $550 as seen here
The reason why I reference the PX6 is is because it comes with the DSP. But honestly, if you have a specific budget you're likely going to be looking at the PX5 models without DSP. You can always add DSP later though.
But yeah, I spent many hours trying to find the best deal. I couldn't find anything in your pricerange when I looked.
Maybe you can check on JOYING website, all of the newest intel 9853i system has built-in dsp, the sound is amazing

It appears this is the model you're referring to. I didn't catch that before... might be an ok fit for the OP
https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-1...een-car-navigation-system-with-4g-module.html
It does seem that Joying probably has the best pricing although it's a brand I choose to stay away from. I also can't get over the massive logo on the front of all their devices. It screams cheap to everyone that gets in my car lol. Personal preference though
I don't think you'll see much development for that either. It seems all the development right now is mostly around the PX3/PX5 and hopefully the PX6 in the future.
So software wise, I'd also be hesitant to purchase Joying.
Also, the Joying comes in at over $600CAD, outside of the OP's budget.
Thanks for your help. I said dps but what i really want is a good EQ. Not a cheap 3 bands.... 9" could do the job too.
I feel really insecure to buy a 500$+ head unit without any advice. My eonon have some bugs that i want to be sure the next head unit will not have like bluetooth connexion. If i have elm327 connected and my phone, when i receive a call the elm327 is disconnected. And this is when i successfully pair the damn device. This is one of the main reason i want an android head unit: app like torque or dashcommand connected to my car.
I don't believe any of the head unit manufacturers are good at software. That goes for the likes of Pioneer down to the Chinese brands. They are in the hardware sales business, not the software business. They need the software to work well enough to do a quick demo and get you to buy. Don't expect a lot of thoughtful design consideration or UI testing.
If I am wrong and there is a good company out there, I would love to hear who they are. I'd certainly consider buying a newer head unit from them. I am in no rush. I let my Joying HU sit on a shelf for a couple years before finally getting around to installing it.
The software is very disappointing. A2DP stops when going into GPS for example. I can't seem to figure out how to map my VOICE steering wheel button to Google Voice Input (like google search widget offers). And how do I disable AVIN so when I press the SRC or Mode SWC button it isn't in the cycled list? It's the small things. Even the pick up phone button (when hung up) doesn't start the Bluetooth phone dialer. The software is very, very poor. Reminds me of the brain dead design decisions of Kenwood and Alpine of years past.
Just my 2c.
The DSP is more than just an equalizer everybody will tell you units equipped with one sound better. Look for your car on the Ownice store the K3's have DSP. The K3 low would definitely fall in your price range but it's not 4GB/32GB. The K3 high is the better unit and should be priced close to your limit. Wait for the exchange rate to get better (probably in the fall).

Honestly, I'd stick to the hot-audio/dasaita models at this point.
Just the sheer amount of support and updates (the most recent update being about a week ago) makes these hopefully a safer bet. See updates here
Technology changes almost on a month to month basis. I accept that when I spent $500CAD+ on android tech that I may desire an upgrade a year later. It's just the cost of having the newest technology.
I do understand that not everyone can justify that kind of money on something that really is more of a want than a need though. If you feel that you just want something that is flawless, you may want to avoid android completely and just get something like a Pioneer unit. These units easily last 10+ years with no more than the odd map update. Just my 2cents.
$500CAD is a tough place to be for a budget right now. The reason I say this is because you definitely can't get the top of the line android HU for that. If you have that much to spend, you're better off holding off on the purchase until you can save up another $150 or so for the top of the line. If you can't afford top of the line, maybe pickup something on the lower end for like $250 for the next year or two and then upgrade later when you have the extra money? I'd hate to dump $500 though on something that's outdated or not receiving patches a year from now.
stokedcrf makes a good point about long term support especially with those Chinese units. They are getting better but there's still work to be done. Actually your best source for support is here provided you have a unit that's compatible. Look for one that is supported by hal9k or malaysk firmwares. Those would be Intel and Rockchip CPU with MTC_ MCU.

Thank you. Is Ownice a good brand? And right now there is 45% discount on the model for my car. What do you think of this head unit?
And what about update for Ownice? Will i be stuck with android 9.0 for ever or they have update for their head unit?
Thanks
Yeah don't get too excited about Aliexpress' discounts they come and go and come again. I linked to the Ownice official store there are others that sell them too but on the bright side shipping is included in the price at that store. Ownice is a manufacturer so you could have better support. Now talking about a good brand, these are Chinese units I wouldn't qualify any of them as good in the sense of Pioneer good. Lets just say some units suck less than most. In the last year this brand has put out units that were pretty decent. Here's the current K3/C800 thread and you can also read up on the C500.
Maxim is running HAL9K ROM 3.1 on his C800. HAL9K ROM started with Lollipop and is now up to Pie and the last 3 version of MTC MCU's are cross compatible so there should be upgrade possibilities for a while. You should do your own research and not have someone tell you what to spend your money on.
best android unit with DSP
When it comes to giant touch screen Android head unit with DSP, the best one I can think of is the XTRONS PST series. Unlike the pionneer, alphine, kenwood which usually has a relatively small screens, XTRONS PST series have 9~10 large screens.
The built-in dsp feature allows you to simply adjust the equalizers and add music effects and will offer great music experience.
Besides as I know, this is a brand designed in England, though it is manufactured in China.
Android Firmware Update link?

So are all of these chinese units garbage?

Or can they compete with pioneer, kenwood, sony in terms of reliability?
i have 8227L_demo with 2gb ram 16gb internal variant and i haven`t faced any issues yet in my head unit. These infotainments are good choice and are reliable
Compared to brand devices, yes. If you can accept their quirks and deficits, they make for a versatile and hobbyist device.

Indeed. Buy a premium device, pay a premium price.
My Joying simply functions fine. For me there is only one annoyance and that is that I can't use Google Assistant to make voice calls and had to make a work-around. I hardly ever use the phone because of safety, and then only less than 2-3 minutes, but it stays annoying.
But this means that 95% of the functionality just works fine. It is the 5% (or so) that most people are complaining about and keep being annoyed about. They keep being focused on "that small thing" that doesn't work.
I have a different state of mind: I am happy with the 95% and live with the 5%.
If you can make that mental switch you will be very happy with your Chinese unit. If you can't make that mental switch you must buy a 3x expensive premium unit.
And note that my brother had an expensive Kenwood or Pioneer unit (can't remember right now), and had to wait for a fix for 1 (!) year to be able to make stable bluetooth calls (lots of audio drops). I don't call that premium either.
I agree 100% with what everyone else said. I'm not an audiophile so the sound quality of the Chinese units is fine with me. Remember with the premium units certain features are locked down and can't be worked around. I paid less than $200 for my Atoto and am happy with what it does and how I have it configured. I can buy 2 more units before I've reached the price of a premium unit. All I am out is my time spent tinkering which I enjoy.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
On top of what the previous commentators said, many of the Chinese units come with vehicle-specific dash kits that allow for a superior integration with your car, making the unit look better than a premium unit that has to fit many vehicles. I'm running Android Auto in my 10-year old Accord, and it cost me just $150. Can't beat that.

Not hijacking the thread, I have an 8227L in a car I inherited. Recommended Head Unit

Can you recommend a head unit for my 2014 Kia Soul? It's double DIN.
What I'm hoping for is something that I can plug my phone into and it will show an Android interface, like what you'd find in newer cars that show you apps on the screen once you plug in. Sirius XM support is a plus.
I know there's a lot of crap on eBay so I'd like to avoid that and ask here instead what's worthwhile.
Thank.

Hi if you want the best experience choose something with px6 4gb of ram, and dsp for better sound and 64gb storage.
It comes with Easyconnect preloaded which can mirror you android/iphone to the screen, but you can download the app.
You can use android auto and carplay both wired and wireless on this device as well. For android auto buy HeadUnit Reloaded app, which works wireless and wired but only android auto, for carplay you need to buy a dongle for 30 USD if only wired, or~75 USD if wireless carplay. The dongle also supports android auto but only wired.
I sent you a link in PM about a product which i would recommend. look around, but only on aliexpress, forget about ebay/amazon as they sell devices with much lower specs for a higher price mostly
Thanks. I actually saw that one on eBay. What if it's the spec? eBay gives a six-month return policy.
The link you sent is in Russian and they said that shipping will take like 5 months....lol
Do you want android auto or hacked Chinese android?
Whatever works. I just don't want to be left with something that may have been cheap but turns out to be poor quality. I don't mind spending money on something that that's worth it.

I think you might become frustrated with the Chinese knock off units, go with a branded Android Auto unit.
Suggest getting an understanding of what Android auto is if not already.
The wife has it in her Buick. You plug the phone into the cable and it gives you a screen with Android apps like you're interacting with your phone. That's what I'd like.

ok it was just a suggestion sometimes aliexpress language is in russianbc of 4pda froum, but my google translate does it job and i dont realize its originally in russian, sorry.
Anyways you should choose whatever you find suitable for you. I live in EU to us delivery is approx 6-12 days max. I have ordered already 2 of the chinese devices and they work without any issue. Of course you can go for kenwood or some branded stuff for more than double the price and bad display quality in terms of resolution. If you choose something from ali i would go for something with at least 4gb and px6 cpu

Has anyone heard of "Roadanvi"?? Also, Im struggling to choose a head unit.

I just bought a head unit for the first time in years.. A Pioneer C5500NEX.
Only AFTER do I discover android units..
Anyway, I have been looking at them for weeks and cannot make up my mind.
I recently came across this brand. It looks good but you know.. the whole looks and deceiving thing...

As in read the forum articles that deal with that, you need to put some work in.

What is an Anything PX6, as there are different vendors.
Also, I think you mean modded factory ROM. It largely attempts to address bugs to make things work properly, like Things that just work in the latest FYT UIS7862 unit. My advice, look for an FYT UIS 7862 such as mekede. The MTCD/E/P/H units remain buggy and slow in comparison.
You probably don't know what is being discussed here because item #1.
It's not easy indeed, especially when manufacturers don't tell you things you want to know.
We recently released a blog article that should give you a very good head start:

I went with this one.
Did I mess up?

I'm have 2nd thoughts.. It was the display that really sold me.. except
-I wanted/NEEDED it in 10 inch. 11.6 is too much.
-No SPDIF or HDMI.
-No SIM card
-4gb+128gb...
These arnt the worst things in the world but @ $600 with shipping I feel like I'm giving up a lot.
It does have a PX6 like he said so I guess that's good?
Can you link me some good articles..
I'm curious what kind of modifications/ROMS/ O.S/ et I can do with these Chinese head units.

Okay as much as I like Dasaita, it's probably not the right choice for you. You are looking to make a considerable investment and seem to have a good understanding of features you're looking for.
Here's our latest article that will help you greatly making the right choice of head unit. It reveals many secrets manufacturers don't tell you.

Once you've read it, reach out to us on our Facebook page and we'll help you through FB Messenger to find the perfect head unit for you and pick a trusted seller on AliExpress to save you money.
I bought one of these and I think they use Junsun firmware. I'm still digging into mine but the model of mine is FF_866X which xda has a thread for. What did you end up getting?
