Hi all,
I have an old MTCB-MX unit and was trying to get my CarPlay adaptor to work with the steering wheel controls so I emailed the manufacturer asking if they had any updated firmware for the unit and they sent over a firmware file but it was named MTCE
My question is, would this break my unit if I flashed it? I want to trust the manufacturer but I always thought it I had to stick with the MTCB line of firmware. I have emailed the manufacturer but as they often take about a week to get back to me.
Cheers!
Try it. Android radios are cheap.

As far as I know you can not roll out an MTCD firmware over an MTCB unit.
But you are in the wrong sub forum. Please check https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/mtcd-android-head-units-general
There are the MTCB/D/E experts.

Is this a Universal version of KGL or is it for a special KGL type? (KGL1-5)
Hi there, I just got sent this version mcu from the company I brought the head unit from. I'm having problems getting my steering controls to work. Does this unit support canbus for steering controls or only resitive type input.

I was looking at the Car Joying site, at this model I keep looking at:
https://www.carjoying.com/android-5...0-radio-stereo-audio-16gb-support-revers.html
And it gives this warning:
"Please take care do not upgrade ROM from Malaysk on forum xda-developers or upgrade others brand app which not provide from Joying. Because this kind of action will broken head unit. If you update it by self, you will face the issues like can't update your lollipop anymore, and you will lost the service of head unit warranty."
Umm..its not a conspiracy. They are just reminding you that if you have a lolipop system (android 5), you can't install Malaysk VERSION 4.4.1 roms or you will break your system.
That is ...... really ....just..... common sense.
Joying thought he could upgrade his MTCB kitkat to Lollipop but since its cause hard bricks he's advising not to use any roms currently. The English is broken up so its extremely hard to understand much of whats explained. Supposedly theyre working on upgrade path but since theyre offering core board replacements etc, I really doubt there will be an upgrade path, i hope im wrong though.
Hello,
I'm looking to upgrade the stock head unit of my 2005 Opel Meriva to an android-based HU and I'm not sure which one I want. I've been reading up on the development threads here, which seem to be split between PX5-based MTCD units on the one hand and Intel Sofia-based Joying units. Please correct me in anything I might have researched wrongly, as that might help me make the right decision. I'm in favor of vendors shipping from EU warehouses because of the insanely long waiting times for Chinese shipping and customs hassle & delays.
The three options that seem to make most sense for the moment are:
Joying - for the actual hardware (on the other hand, maybe PX5 is better than Sofia b/c of thermal throttling issues?)
https://www.carjoying.de/2017-new-o...stem-hd-screen-support-backup-camera-dab.html
Eonon 8155 - for the looks (advertised as quad core with no further info - is this an MTCD with PX3? Why does it have Android 7?
https://eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/V...h-Double-Din-AM-FM-Multimedia-Car-Stereo.html
Any MTCD PX5 based HU - for software versatility, that is, Malaysk CFW (which vendor - advice please? Pumpkin maybe?)
I've seen some MTCD offers look like the Eonon. Getting one of those would really be cool. Any EU sources aside from Aliex?
So here's more on what I am looking for:
I like rooting and flashing my Androids and would like to at least have root access on the device. From what I've read, this is possible on both platforms. Opposed to Joying (?), the PX5 platform also has Malaysk's AOSP based FW - is this any good for a daily driver/full replacement of stock ROM, or are there any missing features? Is there also a custom ROM for Sofia? I've seen someone recently mention something along the lines of, there's a lot of development going on for Joying - I've seen lots of scripts and rooting guides, but I haven't found anything like a custom ROM. Is there something in the making that I've just not been able to find?
Also, the Joying unit has no built in mobile data modem, or only works via their external 4G stick (available for extra € ofc), while I've read that PX5 based units usually have it integrated. Can MTCD units also interface with cameras?
Can any of these units read Opel CANbus data like RPM/liters per 100km? How about OBDII BT adapters, can MTCD/Joying use my old ELM327 one or do I have to buy a new one because of some vendor-implemented driver lockout? The CFW of MTCD would fix that, right?
Thanks for reading through this wall of text and for any answers in advance.
TL;DR
Want to buy android HU for 2005 Meriva. Joying (Sofia) or MTCD (PX5)? If the latter, which vendor can you recommend for EU?
I want to get a new head unit for my E46 bmw, and I want something that is community supported. I found this on Amazon
link
I'm assuming this is an mtcd unit that is supported by one of the malaysk ROMs? How can I tell?
I also found the newly released eonon GA8150A. This unit is Android 7.1 out of the box, but it has a processor that I don't know if it's community supported. Can anyone give some advice please?

On youtube you can see clips of the Xtron octacore... and more, if you're handy you could place a Resler I-BUS usb stick whitout using the OBD2 to see many things like cooling water and oil temp, rpm, speed... Any Modern android radio could run this app, meanwhile the app is updated. ( from Android 5.1 or 6.0) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FBQM27htiw&t=207s
I read good things about Daisata (hot audio)
A member here on the XDA ther will be a new head unit... https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...aita-32g-rom-4g-ram-android-8-0-wait-t3702024
I have just bought this head unit on a local online shopping site. It is called Stapon S7.
From cpu-Z, the soc is from allwinner, octacore 2.6ghz.
From this photo, can someone enlighten what is this unit and any firmware avail?
hey same with my headunit, im still searching too how too root and upgrade this ROM, because realy slow, and many Forceclosed App
It's an oddball. So many buy then come here to find out the hard way.
Consider buying a uis7862 FYT type unit instead.
I also got stapon s7, Im suspecting it is a rebranded joying.
Im tempted to just flash joying firmware, but im not too sure if it really is a joying. Mine has so much similarity on joying system info in Joying firmware update.
Here is mine:
I just checked with Joying, it is not from them. They pointed out that my MCU has prefix of YIN, while theirs is JY
