To go back to Stock
1. Yes, going back to T-Mobile will bring back the unlock app. However, you dont need to do this. You can follow instructions here for a permanent unlock: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-sim-unlock-t-mobile-version-type-t3915269
2. To go back to stock T-Mobile follow this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-t-mobile-oneplus-6t-msmdownloadtool-t3868916
Thank u! I ended up going back to v11 and then unlocking bootloader then deleting the modems then upgrading manually with the full zip to v15!!

EDIT: Apologies! This should have gone under General topic!
I bought an unlock code for my phone. I told them it's a Hero I got from Telus and I gave them my IMEI number. They sent me a code. I slipped in a Rogers SIM card and booted the phone. It says the network is locked. I put in my unlock code but it keeps saying "Incorrect password".
Do you think the fact that I'm running a custom ROM (Villain 5.3) could be the problem?
Or, come to think of it, could it be because I flashed an updated radio?
Hero has only 1.5 android stock, so you need a ROM that is 1.5 also. I came to this problem to...
Nandroid backup
Wipe
Flash 1.5 rom
Do unlock sh!t
Restore previous ROM
Voilà!
n00b001, I don't know who you are, but I could kiss you right now!
I restored MCR 3.1, unlocked my phone using the code I bought, restored VillainROM 5.3 and, like you say, voilà!
Thank you so much! Merci beaucoup!
Have yourself a great weekend!
Just wondering, will I ever have to use that code again (if I update the radio for example) or is my phone unlocked forever?
Interesting, I didn't know this. Well, I highly doubt you'll have to use that code again. my phone is unlocked and I've updated radio and everything
Nah, the unlock code is permanent. You can reflash a complete original factory ROM including SPL etc. and the phone will still be unlocked.
Good tip about needing 1.5 to unlock though.

Is there no way to unlock a hero after installing a custom rom without downgrading?

Yeah, so I was asking if the downgrade is essential for unlocking.
I'm hoping there's another method, as the problem is that I've sold and posted the phone already.
I wrongly assumed rooting via gold card performed an unlock , as I did test it with Virgin and Orange sim cards, and could connect to the networks and make calls fine, but buyer's having problems with an O2 sim.
where can i found spanish rom

Unlock code worked fine on custom rom.
I recently purchased an unlocked T-Mobile G2 that I am using on AT&T. If I install a custom ROM, will it re-lock the phone to T-mobile? If it does, is there an easy way to unlock it again?
Very Very Unlikely...

I Don't think so. Just install CWM (ClockWorkMode Recovery) and if you want , root it. Just follow the instructions at the Rom developers website.
There is nearly no chance that a unlocked phone could be locked again unless you change the hex values which you can't do it easily.
Hello friends of the XDA community. I have a Sprint unlocked variant. I'm on T-Mobile, but after September's update, I got sim invalid message. I thought this would be an easy fix to downgrade back to the previous stock Pie Firware. So I went to the Essential website and downloaded the wrong firmware and flashed it, it was open market but I have a Sprint device. Now the device just bootloops every time I try to flash the correct firmware. When I try to flash the correct firmware, it says wiping data and than it starts transfering data and a second after it reboots and bootloops. Am I doomed? Thanks guys.
Open market works fine on Sprint devices. What did you download? Did you unlock your bootloader? Unlock critical?
Thank you so much for you help. I finally got it back up and running.

Maybe essential will release a fix in a few days for the relocked Sprint phones. Otherwise, if you wanted to unlock it yourself so you can run the latest update, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77532356&postcount=20 since it sounds like you already have your bootloader unlocked.
Do you mean bootloader or sim in terms of unlocking? Bootloader is fine. I'm sim locked.

With an unlocked bootloader, you can either root and flash sim-unlocked modemst images with dd, or downgrade the bootloader and use it to flash.

Is there a link for this method? Thanks!
Yesterday, I flashed the international OOS in my TMO 6t then unlocked the bootloader and rooted it.
However I never SIM unlocked the device beforehand.
Can the device be sim unlocked with root access?
Additional question, what bad may happen flashing stock TMO branded OOS on my bootloader unlocked device?
What I've seen recommended is to use the MSM tool to flash back to T-mobile software and then request the SIM unlock.

I went international also, however I was already sim unlocked. You could just go back full TMO and sim unlock... Maybe I'm not sure. What process did you use to unlock the bootloader and root?

You would have to go back TMO version and request permanent unlock. T-Mobile can only do this or pay a third party to do it. When I got mine on release date I told TMO I was going overseas and gave me an unlock right away. The unlock app is not supported on the international version it'll give you an app not supported if you try to sideload it.

Okay lol just clarifying, but yeah only way is to go back to TMO stock rom and request the permanent unlock through the app after your imei has been whitelisted. As for flashing TMO rom on top of international, your best bet would be to use the TMO MSMtool to go back to stock.

Yea, figured..
No matter I'll never use it off TMO network anyway. But when I pay off the last $500 I'll swap back and unlock.

It's locked? I have installed this many times on my TMo S8+ and never had this happen. Even when I had temporary unlocks, it would remain unlocked until the unlock expired. If you want the device unlock app to work again you'll need to go back to official TMo firmware.
Just by installing the unlocked software does not unlock the phone. was your phone unlocked previously and then you switched to U1 software? I am pretty sure you can request an unlock from the tmobile site. have you tried that? other than that y not just flash back to oreo and unlock from the stock tmobile rom. DRL7 is a terrible build anyway compared to whats out there and t-mobile is in the testing phase so official pie will be out soon. just a few ideas.

my phone is fully paid and it was unlocked before. I installed android pie and get locked again. I cleared a last bill and I had back and forth with theme for 2 months. many calls. they phone is not on their whitelist anymore so should work but there is not no way I can make the device unlock app work. I tried with tmobile sim, another sim and wifi nothing the device unlock apps opens and closes with no connection to their servesrs. Tmobile at the end says they cannot do anything since I am using a version not supported. anything you can think of?

You can revert to the official T-MOBILE build. If you're on the official build then you should get the OTA for pie when it's out.

Yes you can just go ahead and downgrade. I do it all the time and haven't run into any issues. I also have a T-Mobile S8+.
Thanks I will try and let you know

Suggestions? I tried a differente cable. I will now try to install via odin on pc and maybe downlod the build again. any other suggestion? I am worried the phone cannot write on the phone flash memory whihc might be the same issue why the tmobile unlock app does not work. yet the phone works perfectly for any other app and oS

I've never gotten Odin to work properly on my Mac. However, you can use VirtualBox and run Windows in there. That's how I use Odin. I'd download the build again and see if that fixes anything. Please try on a Windows machine (VM or PC).
Will do that then and let everyone know
