UDATED:
Hello,
I had a serious problem with the Cleaner in Xiaomi's Security App(Ver 2.7.4) installed from factory in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 - it deleted my notes in Fast Notepad by IGOR. I lost some important notes because of this rouque behaviour and I had to back them up on ext. SD card to keep them safe - from the Security App Cleaner.
In the Securiity App settings, Cleaner settings there are Exceptions and here is the list of Excepted Apps that should not be Cleaned, I had set Fast Notepad as excluded App(run Cleaner, and when the list of Apps and files to be cleaned is ready, then find the App you don't want to be cleaned and long press it, when you let go you get an option to add it to Exceptions) - But the Cleaner deleted the notes anyway. Even when I made sure Fast Notepad were not on the list of App's getting cleaned, it deleted the notes anyway.
I filed this with Xiaomi's support which suggested some thing that didn't work anyway and that I should factory reset my phone or flash it with a ROM - None of these things are necessary, Xiaomi should just fix their Security App - but that cost money, so maybe that is why they gave me the run-around.
I have used Fast Notepad for years in my other phones and never had this problem before - Here is a link to the Fast Notepad App I use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.taxaly.noteme.v2
WORK AROUND - Please note that this is not a solution to the problem that Xiaomi's Cleaner deletes files it shouldn't, it is as I stated a work around to keep your Fast Notepad notes safe from the Cleaner:
The Fast Notepad App has an option in Settings, where you can store your notes in 3 places Android, Internal Memory and Manual(Ext. SD). If you choose Android it means that you can't find them by filemanagers and Cleaners, it also mean you can't directly back them up, without first changing this setting to Internal and them change the setting back to Android after backup. But you files are safe from the Cleaner App.
Enjoy

My treo pro has been running slow. It takes forever to try and forward emails, (click on forward and it takes a few minutes for the new window to pop open).
Is there a tool that will cleanup and speed up the phone? Like a scan disk we use on a computer?
Yes a program called Clear temp by Vicsoft works great.

just a question, how does it increase battery life, because i would love that. and i do agree to the above post, clear temp is great
clean up tool
could you please to upload this tool .
thanks.
Try htcaddict's CleanRam. It allows for 3 levels of cleaning, and many customizable options. Just search for it in xda.
i need a cleanup tool too for my wifes palm!
This is an old thread but, with WinMob machines, you must purge system temp and delete locations...just as you do with your desktop.
Deleted SMS messages do not get "deleted", they get moved into the "Deleted Items" folder of the SMS structure. If any folder store of the email system gets too large, the messaging system can't handle the size of the database and the system...lags. Or worse, blows up.
Users must purge their system temp files, internet temp cache, messaging storage and deleted items, plus any other system temp stores, occasionally otherwise you'll be in for trouble. WinMo requires a bit of maintenance, just like any other version of Windows.
I don't like CleanRAM - never worked well for me. At least, not as well as a simple warm reset does. Simply download SoftReset and any time you feel the need to 'clean' your RAM, just do a quick soft reset instead.
Hello everyone...
Brand spanking new on here.
Been a keen watcher for a while...but i'm just not clever enough to join in with all the tech stuff !
However...i'm now at breaking point...
I've had the HD2 from O2 since the launch date, and find it unbelievably annoying...although i really do try to 'love it' so, so much !!!
Can someone please help with a few questions that i'm desperate for answers for ?
1. My internal memory just seems to 'seep' memory, by the day. I've no apps, a handful of photos and haven't messed with it. I clear the opera and Explorer caches and history every day.
I've now resorted to doing a system reset ( hard ), about every 6 weeks...and you know how annoying that is, when i have to reset EVERYTHING !!!
2. I regularly 'Sync' my phone via the Windows Device Centre on my desktop. After every 'upload sync' ( see above ), all my 'Windows Live' contacts drop into my 'Contacts' list, as though they're seperate contacts ? I have to go in and delete them all ! All these details are already contained within my 'Contacts' files anyway !
3. Is it correct, that after every system reset ( hard ), all my email settings ( and Windows Live contacts, come to that ? ) aren't saved upon sync-ing ? I have to manually go in and reset them, every time at the moment ?
4. When in Windows Live, i haven't got the ability to open hyperlinks, sent to me via Messenger ? They don't ever show up in 'blue' ? Is this right ?
I'm presuming i'm doing something wrong here ?
Apologies for droning on...especially in my very first post !
Please help me 'love' this phone a little more !
Please bear in mind, my 3rd paragraph on here, if you feel you can assist ?
I'm not sure why you would need to do a hard reset just to reclaim RAM but you could simplify the process by using software such as SPB Backup to take a full backup of your phone which could be restored after the reset. This would save you the hassle of having to set everything up from scratch.
However, it sounds like you might have some other problem if you are consistently running out of memory over time. Is it possible that you've installed an application that is running in the background and using too much memory? Have you tried a soft reset to see if that clears your memory?
Many thanks for your reply Jakem...
I've tried doing a soft reset and it's freed up a grand total of 1MB...i'm now roaring away with a whole 7MB of internal storage !!!
Can i just clarify that this SPB Back-Up, is a direct equivalent / improvement / superior option to the Windows Device Centre, for backing up my required info ?
Sorry for being a bit dense, but is it a 'Marketplace' app ?
Ive read about moving other caches onto my 2GB storage card, but surely, with my particular problem, it'll only fill the space up again ?
I'm lost !
I think jakem has got your issue mixed up.
He is talking about RAM, whereas you seem to be talking about ROM memory.
There are a few cabs on this forum which transfer the album cache and Opera cache to the memory card (although you have mentioned you use the album very little, and clear Opera/IE regularly)
I have a program called PMclean, have a search for it in google, this seems to clear a lot of crap that is hidden from view.
Many thanks rp...
Has anyone got any, slightly more 'direct' answers to my problem ???
I'm all ears !
Are you sure that you always store your photos (in the camera settings), Footprints (move manually to SD) and mail attachements (Email, Inbox, Menu, Extras, Settings, Storage, Store Attachements on SD) to SDCard?
Just to give you an idea: 1 Photo (5MP) --> 2MB --> 75 Photos = Memory Full

Read this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 and move your caches to the SD card. Also find and install one of the task managers to ensure that when you finish using a programme it is closed properly and not minimised in memory

Not necessary if you act as indicated above.

I have always had issues with syncing data and contacts this way. If all you are looking for is a regular backup of your data, for safety purposes, then buy and install SPB Backup. Job done.

System/hard reset, as opposed to a soft reset, will delete all of your data off your device and you will have to reinstall from scratch. Again if you take the advice above you should not need to do this.
4. When in Windows Live, i haven't got the ability to open hyperlinks, sent to me via Messenger ? They don't ever show up in 'blue' ? Is this right ?
Don't know, don't use windows live.

You asked for direct answers to your questions above so I will give it a go (see bold items above).
Take your time to go through the hints and tips thread I referred you to. Should help with some of your problems.
Need any further help, come back.

As far as I can tell, windows live only does a one way merge from windows live to your phone, so your windows live contacts go into your phone, but phone contacts don't go up into windows live, and they don't merge very well so you get all the duplicate nonsense.
The way I do my contacts is to turn off the merge/sync option in windows live, then use outlook and WMDC/activesync to edit/sort the contacts. When it's in the state I want, I'll run the "myphone" app to create a backup of them and manage through the myphone web portal.
As regards the free space thing; if it's storage memory you're running low on, as recommended above, you should switch as much as you can to save on the storage card. If you have lots of email, then that might be a cause... as well as photos or whatever, so look in the account settings for that option too. If it's program memory, I've no idea without being able to look at what's running, etc!
I also have an O2 HD2, though I do recommend updating the rom to the latest HTC rom, as mine came with 1.43, and the newest HTC one is rather better. You'll have to make a "gold card" or use hardspl to install it though, unless O2 release an approved version. (I read in another thread one was promised for the end of March and it failed to materialise).
FYI -
http://www.gadgetvenue.com/htc-droid-incredible-browser-privacy-issues-06174615/
Reports are indicating that a privacy issue might have hit the HTC DROID Incredible. It is believed to be related to the HTC Sense UI that can take screen shots of your browser session while using the device. The browser session images are then stored in a location where they are hard to get rid of.
The captured images don't go away when the browser is closed and remain on the device it seems until manually removed. Even when clearing the browser history the screen shots still remain and we also hear after a factory reset is done that they still remain.
The JPEG files are saved to a folder named .bookmark_thumb1 which is located within the emmc folder of the phones internal storage (so you would expect a full factory reset to delete them). We found some screenshots of us logged into Facebook, logged into our online banking website, and viewing several other mundane websites (see picture above) even after having completed a factory reset. We tested this on more than one stock, un-rooted HTC DROID Incredible and replicated it several times.
The images can be deleted manually but what is worrying is that an exit of the browser doesn't clear them and a factory reset doesn't clear them.

I tried to delete these files using "Astro" and it said "Error deleting files" and wouldn't allow me to delete anything.
Is there another way?
Scratch that. They just went away. There was a LONG delay and then they went away. Strange....
I didn't just delete the images, I deleted the whole folder and replaced it with a empty file. So far its worked out for me. Haven't noticed any issues since doing it and I don't have go clean anything out any more.
FYI: It did have several bits of my personal information so everyone should be aware.
I checked these and most of them are illegible. I think these are the thumbnails for your bookmarks in the system browser or if you use the bookmark widget for Sense. It's meant to be a good thing. Can someone explain how this is a privacy issue? No one has access to these thumbnails except for you. They are not being transmitted anywhere. How is this any different than a cookie or browsing history?
A quick solution would be to just not use the system browser or Sense widget. Use something like Dolphin instead.
Thanks for sharing!
A definite privacy issue...imagine if you lost or sold/traded your tele, not imagining that this data was still on your tele...thx again!
HTC said in a statement that they're aware of the problem and will be pushing a small update sometime soon.
Galaxy S is my first Android device, so please excuse my noob-question:
I just try alot of apps and most of them will be uninstalled by me a few days later. Does Android do a "clean" uninstall, or are there still bits and pieces in something like a registry (yes I am a windows-user ;-)). Or does that depend on the uninstall-method which is provided by the individual app-developer?
Due to the fact that there is no "General Android" - Forum I will post my question in this forum which at least corrsesponds to my current device.
Thanks for your insight.
quicky
This is funny because I also wonder everytime I delete if there are registry pieces missing lool. but I'm sure that doesn't matter.. There are however SOMETIMES folders IN the SD card or the external Drive of a phone (like the 8gb/16gb partition of the Galaxy).
All android phones are like that, sometimes they leave a folder with settings or sometimes empty folders, and sometimes no folders at all.
I think it's just to keep cache or settings.. you can simply delete those when you enter your sd card.
In Android, every app has his own "sandbox". This is like a exclusive folder for the app, where it stores everything and other apps can't access.
When you remove an app from the phone, android removes this "folder" so there is nothing left behind.
There is just one exception to this: the SD card. Some programs will store some information (for example heavy games store maps, voices,...) to a folder in the SD card. So when uninstalling just look if your SD card contains some folder with the app name and safely remove it too (unless you plan reinstalling the app later!).
I have the T-Mobile USA HD2, latest Stock ROM, latest CHT installed.
I have the latest version of SK Tools, in general a great app.
A couple days ago I did all the recommended optimizations in SK Tools, what was recommended for better performance. I don't recall what all the changes were.
However, I think my system is slower now, not faster. Bootup especially takes a long time. (Especially the "Launching Sense" part.)
There could have been different factors that affect that. For instance, I installed AEB Buttons Plus, and I think that might have slowed down the system.
But I'm wondering if some of the SK Tools tweaks I did, while they may be good for other systems, are perhaps not so good for the HD2, and it would have been better to have left those settings at default?
Is there anyone reading who knows which of the SK Tools recommended performance optimizations might be recommended for the HD2, and which might better not be done on this phone?
I would appreciate any help with that.
----------
One thing I would recommend that HD2 users with SK Tools not do. There are options in SK Tools to move the IE cache, history, and cookies to the storage card, and the e-mail and messaging databases as well. I did that. I thought, why not, although HD has more built-in memory than other devices, there is still much more room on the card, no need to have those caches in internal memory, Opera stores its cache on the card, etc.
It should be that way. However, the HD2 seems to do something with those IE and messaging caches at system startup, and that can happen before the storage card is functional. Therefore, looking for the cache on the storage card, and not finding one, that stupid WM bug occurs (why hasn't that been fixed by now??) where a folder is created in main memory called "storage card". Then when the real storage card comes on board, it is renamed to "Storage Card 2", not to conflict with the folder by that name, and links to it don't work any more.
I don't know why the system does something with IE and messaging caches at startup, but it does, and therefore can create a lot of hassle, if those caches are located on the storage card. I changed it back last night. Not advisable, to relocate those caches on the card.
---------------
Anyhow, if any HD2 user reading who uses SK Tools, could let me know how you think the different optimizations are good or not good for the HD2, please let me know.
Thanks.
