Hello, I found on Aliexpress some seller that claim that installing a custom firmware is possible to unlock all the LTE bands supported by Redmi Note 2, does anyone has experience about that?
Buying a Redmi Note 2 TDD which firmware should I install to unlock 4G LTE 1800mhz 2100mhz and 2600mhz bands ?
You can install without problems a Xiaomi.eu weekly. The base is from FDD firmware so you won't have problems

I'd like to know if this is possible myself. I bought the Redmi Note 2 from gearbest. I live in the US. Even though the info says it's for worldwide use, it's not. I can only get 2G on this phone through all US carriers. This phone has LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41, enabled and that's it. I guess it's good for everywhere else besides the US for 3G and 4G.
Will the Axon 7 support Australia LTE Bands 1(2100mhz Used on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone and i will need the support), Band 3(1800Mhz used on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone and i will need the support), Band 5(850mhz used on Vodafone), Band 7(2600mhz used on Telstra and Optus and i will need the support), Band 28(700mhz used on Telstra and Optus and i will need the support) and Band 40(TDD 2300mhz used on Optus and i will need the support).
Which model support the band above

Going by the website the ZTE A2017G will support those bands
http://www.ztedevice.com/product/smart-phone/AXON-7
It's at the bottom of the page under system information
Tossing up between this or the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe , which ever turns out to be more developer friendly
I bought an SM-G950U1 (US Unlocked) from Best Buy. Does any one know if it supports TDD LTE Band 40 (2300 MHz)?
There is conflicting information on this! Answers given in various specs vary as follows:
YES (it supports LTE Band 40) --- according to specs given by sellers like Best Buy, B&H, and many online sites like gsmarena, phonearena, frequencycheck.com, etc.
NO (does not support LTE Band 40) --- according to the Samsung support person I talked to over the phone. Also, the FCC filings for SM-G950U do not list TDD LTE Band 40 (they have only one TDD band listed, Band 41, presumably for Sprint). On the other hand, although TDD LTE Band 41 is actually known to work with the SM-G950U1, the official Samsung SM-G950U webpage does not list any TDD band at all, not even Band 41 (it lists only FDD LTE bands).
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/phones/galaxy-s/galaxy-s8-64gb--unlocked--sm-g950uzkaxaa
Does anyone know the real answer here? Has anyone actually tested the SM-G950U1 for Band 40 support in a suitable country (Peru, South Africa, India, Australia)?

I don't have a carrier that would have Band 40, but here is the thread which lists all bands for different versions of S8. You can try asking there as well.

Thanks. I have posted to the thread you mentioned. It is surprisingly hard to find the answer to such a simple question for such a flagship device!

Band 40 LTE is there. Open phone and dial *#2263# and it will list all bands active in the phone, including 40. It is in mine.
Thanks Danny Noman! The *#2263# code did work and showed Band 40. Wonderful!
One question: The *#*#4636#*#* info menu does not seem to work on the S8 (works on many other android phones). Any idea what might be an equivalent for the S8?
I have seen in some sites that Redmi Note 7 does not have the B28, but entering the brand's global site, says that there is this band, wanted to know who already has and can confirm if it is released on the device or not.
For those who want to see, here is the link to the Xiaomi Global website:

After looking in Kimovil all the configurations for the Redmi Note 7, I can tell you that there is a version with the B28 band. It isn't the Global one, nor the Chinese one, but the India/Taiwan/Malaysia/Polony one!! Here you have an screenshot:
Sorry but kimovil is the manufactur.
Trust mi.com! If They say global has band 28, than it has.
I have the global one, but No 28 LTE to Test it

Trust the manufacturer site, OK but the webpage doesn't mention which version/variant is described...
There are three models of Redmi Note 7, each one in différents variants (storage, ROM,...).
- M1901F7G : Global model, distributed through European Mi stores (including in France where B28 have been starting to be deployed), amongst others. B28 is NOT enabled. B20 (the main LTE band in Europe so far) is enabled, though.
- M1901F7H : Model with different versions/variants including some delivered with CN ROM (China) and others with APAC ROM (Asia Pacific i.e. Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia,...). This model has certification for B28. But only the APAC variant actually does have B28 enabled. On CN variants, there is no B28.
- M1901FYI : Indian model. No B28 here.
After looking in Kimovil all the configurations for the Redmi Note 7 said:
Beware! ID stands for Indonesia, not for India! Indian model is pretty different in terms of LTE bands. Also, PL actually seems to refer to Poland but this information is really weird since B28 has not been deployed in Poland and Xiaomi sells the Global model with Global/EU ROM in European countries where they currently focus on (Spain, Italy, France, this latest already using B28). A non sense, then... I don't know where this information come from.
Foxy, for what purpose do you need B28 (which network)?

Per the specs, it's obviously the APAC variant. It's a good move from Gearbest who meet the requirement of some Eurogeeks desperately seeking for a cellphone having both B20 and B28 enabled (subscribers the Free network in France). It may even not be a will from them, since they don't offer the M1901F7G anyways (only the CN and APAC variants then). Since the CN version is a real no go for EU customers, the APAC variant is just a perfect alternative as long as it offers all languages. And it is very probable the APAC variant natively includes multilanguage.

Thanks for the precisions!
So at the end (at least for european use) better go with the M1901F7H (APAC) as it has the 48Mpx camera and the B28 in bonus.
Question:
As i'm planning to root later, will there be restriction for B28 on Xiaomi.EU, MiGlobal or future Custom ROMS on this M1901F7H model?

It's what it looks like. I just asked Gearbest to confirm the model number. I will let you know if I get an answer.
The number of bands enabled on this models is impressive. It's not only the B28. This variant also have B2 and B4 which is pretty useful when travelling to the American continent! And none of the "Global Version" bands is missing on the APAC version. If this is confirmed, it's a shame that Xiaomi sells a so-called Global Version in official store although there is another regional version which is truly usable worldwide. Now I feel fooled after having bought my Redmi Note 7 in an official MiStore.
I don't know much the Xiaomi services you talk about but for the custom ROMs I don't see any problem as long as you use a custom ROM designed for the appropriate model (H in this case).
Edit: After further research, I couldn't find any track of an APAC version managing the B20... The Gearbest description seems to be copied-pasted from the Xiaomi global website herebefore linked. However this page list the specs of all the different versions together as one, which is pretty misleading. Better wait the clarification from GB, then...

EDIT: interresting post on this forum:
https://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/gsmgpspda/telephone-android/unique-redmi-note-sujet_32992_16.htm#t2428695
Xiaomi has on global site different bands than in FR and ES sites, and also on IT site has different bands from all of them.
Global: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28
ES: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20 (a few weeks ago ther was not B4 on Spanish site specs).
FR: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20
IT: B1/3/5/7/8/20
AFter checking again FCC certification:
https://fccid.io/2AFZZ-RMSF7H/Lette [...] er-4142497
And a unit bought by me in spain, i see that Spanish version is the M1901F7G and that does not have B28, and after checking all mi sites, I see that only some countries has B28:
· Indonesia
· Malaysia
· Poland
· Vietnam
So for this countries they have M1901F7H with B28. I have updated bands on Kimovil site, is hard to find real bands and we have not found any shop with B28 version

indonesia MI specs shows B20 B28.
https://www.mi.co.id/id/redmi-note-7/specs/
Same as the official Taiwanese store :
https://mobile.mi.com/tw/redmi-note-7/#specs
And with these LTE specs, it comes in two variants 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB (no 3GB/32GB like for the Global Version nor 6GB/128GB) exactly like the two options offered by Gearbest.
So yes, this phone with both B20 and B28 and much more exists. The remaining question is why Xiaomi made a so called Global Version that is way less global than this one? Is it just to save few dollars on European's customer account? :-/ Or for certification reasons?...

I live in Brazil and here the B28 is being widely implemented by the operators, to work with the B3 and B7, but the plan is that in some years the B28 becomes the main to cover the largest space of coverage areas possible.

There is no M1901F7H global version.
The Global Version is M1901F7G.
The official Xiaomi website says that it has B28 700Mhz
Unfortunately, so far nobody can confirm this is true.
From what I find online, the only variant that has B28 is M1901F7H. It is sold in Taiwan and a few other APAC countries like Singapore.
I have a RN5 with H at the end in model number (taiwan version). Shows B28 with LTE Discovery, but most of the time it shows B2. My operator uses both. Just tried G ending RN7 Global and only shows B2, no B28, tried several times. Even in moments when my RN5 showed steady B28, switched sim card and no B28 in RN7. So it seems like it's not supported. Just opened dispute with AliExpress, on the listing it showed B28.

None of the sources that say the "G" version lacks B28 is believable. They mostly get the information from the User Manual, which does not list B28 (but that could be an error since it was probably copied from another version of the manual).

The only definitive way to test is to find out which towers are carrying B28 ONLY for 4G for your carrier/operator. In Australia we have a website called oztowers.com.au that allows us to do this, you probably have one too.
Find a tower that only has B28 for 4G for your carrier, and travel to it. Park next to it and see what happens.
There is little confirmed information about B28 and it is confused.
Several stores in Aliexpress are listed as B28 in the description of RN7. However, the review image posted by the buyer is M1901F7G.
Are the descriptions of these shops false?
I asked a few shops about B28, but the shops only replied "This is a global version".
I am also curious about global version and am buying from the US. Need bands 2 and 4 which site do u guys suggest I order from? And does gearbest sell unlocked ones but not aliexpress?
