VR/Cardboard quality - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I enjoy using VR apps on my phone from time to time.
Currently, I own a Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kate) and a Redmi Note 5 Pro (Whyred), and I have to use the RN3 for VR, since the RN5 screen has somewhat a higher latency, which results in nausea and blurry image when moving my head.
I am wondering whether the Mi 9T/Redmi K20 screen offers a good experience for VR.
I know that usually OLED panels are associated with lower latencies, and less screen door effect, and that FHD resolution is not really high, but I was wondering if anyone has tested how Mi 9T/K20 performs in this regards, and is enjoable for really sporadic usage.
Thanks in advance!

Yotaphone 2 display compared to Galaxy S4 / S5 / Xiaomi Redmi Pro OLED

Hi there,
After 3-4 months with my yotaphone 2 I want to share my experiences with it's and other display technologies...
Yotaphone 2 has a very good OLED display. I directly compared it to Samsung Galaxy S4 / S5 and my new Xiaomi Redmi Pro 32GB/3GB version (not to confuse with Xiami Redmi Note 3/4 pro which use IPS LCDs).
S4 / S5 / Yotaphone 2 seem to have the same display panel. Colors and overall image match 99% (they are great). Just the S4 and S5 seem to allow a higher brightness than the yotaphone 2 does. On the other hand yotaphone 2 allows you to go very dark while keeping a good image quality.
Compared to Xiaomi Redmi Pro (chinese OLED) the redmi pro doesn't convince too much. Especially green colors on the redmi pro look somewhat synthetic. Red is OK but not as embracing as on Yotaphone 2. Other colors seem similarily good.
Furthermore (not that much hardware related) yotaphone 2 has a perfect automated brightess control. The best i've seen yet. With S4/S5 and redmi pro I always need to fine-tune in some situations because of auto brightess reacting slowly or brightness going max when not needed.
Maybe someone here or out there on the interwebz cares about comparison of OLED technology displays. They are NOT the same. My opinion:
Most tests / reviews only state that there's LCD and OLED with some of their pros and cons. That's all. But of course there are differences in OLED technologies. Chinese OLED's like that of the redmi pro tend to being not that advanced. They feature sharp image and high resolution but color / black and overall image quality don't match advanced OLEDs like samsung's I would say they reach about 80% of samsung's / yotaphones display quality.
Nice info. Thanks for sharing.
On my side I have to admit that I am deeply impressed with some feautures of my Yotaphone 2, being one the AMOLED display. Although it is not as good as the one I had with my Samsung Note 4, something quite expected, as the other one was one of the top displays with better pixel density and area.
The only complain for the panel might be the maximun brightness that it is also lower to top samsung ones and that the display shows some more reflections that those, making it a little worse on direct sunlight. I also tend to believe that this display tends to be a little more energy conservative than the top Samsung ones, as with a smaller battery, I usually get better screen time than with those Samsung top models (which have a better/bigger screen, but also a bigger battery).
Anyway, it is one of the top displays I've seen.
Best regards,

Can the p10 lite do virtual reality?(Does the p10 lite have a gyroscope sensor?)

can it do vr?
Yes it can. I have it but keep in mind that the VR experience is not that great. Fps tend to drop and it does not seem fluent at times. Also, the screen has a laggy feel because it uses a ips lcd. The xiaomi redmi note 4x was way better at vr but the miui os is absolutely buggy and I had to change it for this p10 lite.

ok thanks...Im getting one tomorrow and i just wanted to know...???
No problem.
I don't think its a good idea for you to use this phone for VR. The Display is 1080p - that means that if you go into VR mode there will be 2 pictures displayed in half the quality (each eye will see the picture on its half the display so 2x 540p)

Mi A1 screen is the same as Mi 5X?

I'm considering the A1 however judging from videos i've seen on Youtube, the screen is washed out compared with the Mi5X and others Xiaomi phones.
Is that really the case here, and does it have an option to calibrate colors in the settings section. Thanks in advance
I'll have both in my hands this weekend, and maybe I can return with comparison.
In advance, I can say that Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 Prime both have much more light than my screen (Mi A1).
In terms of quality, colors, other stuff, I'm too newbie to comment, but brightness is surely much more, making it waaaaaay better to see stuff in daylight.

Nice, thanks for the feedback i'll wait then.
Ok, I compared both, and Mi A1 brightness is much smaller than Mi 5X.
I'm not sure If I forgot to take the picture, or if I took it and it's lost on someone's phone... Sorry, family parties, new year, I can't remember...
I would say that Mi 5X on 50% is the same as Mi A1 on 100%.

Pros and cons? Can you tell.me why is it better than note 5 pro?
On note 5 pro You can't play pubg on HD and with Hugh fps, the game even stutters when the graphics are on balanced and on medium frame rate.
On m1 the HD graphics and high frame rate works good.

I don't want to buy a phone for gaming. Besides both of the phones have the same chipset yet you claim that max pro beats note 5 pro at framerates. I know it is from the software but hey.

I have zmpm1 6gb variant and i also use rn5 pro.
Camera of rn5 pro is better than zmpm1 , sharpness saturation levels are far better and no fading when you zooming the pic plus you can record slow motion video in rn5 pro(slomo of rn5 pro is just amazing) .
MIUI is far better than the stock ui of zmpm1, because in zmpm1 there is no essential customization. You may feel bored after using zmpm1 for a while.
Obviously you can play pubg in hd graphics on zmpm1 but there is serious network issue, if you play online games on mobile data then you realize ping is so high that you can't play the game properly.
Only pro of zmpm1 are battery and sound quality both are amazing.
In rn5 pro you can't use 2 sim cad and micro sd at the same time but in zmpm1 you get 3 slots.
Zmpm1 receives many updates but Every update brings new problems.....
So in my opinion you must go with RN5 PRO

Interesting arguments. You think the phone will hold me more than 2 years (terms of updates)
Whyred has miui, zui, zenui, aosp, LOS, OOS by port or by sgsi, but ZMPM1 has in built treble support but very slow development. Whyred is for flashaholics.
Buy which ever you like
I personally bought max pro m1 6gb variant and don't have any issues. I play a lot of pubg and the ping is always under 100 ms. No network issue for me.
And I didn't face any bug or problem in software
I compared the cameras side by side and the amount of details my phone captures with gcam is insane while note 5 pro just makes everything more dark colored. + I don't use cameras so much so it don't matter to me.
Don't know about software updates on note 5 pro but Asus is getting up to android Q. +miui devices heat a lot.
It's your personal choice I preferred Asus over xiaomi. Buy whatever you want.
I have both Asus max pro m1 4Gb and Redmi note 5 pro
Trust me... Get asus....
Battery---I get really low sot on Note 5 pro whereas I get 14+ hrs SOT on asus max pro m1..
Performance -- asus wins
Camera-- I feel camera quality of asus is better because redmi note 5 pro Overexposes all the pics...looks unnatural....
Updates --- Pie is around the corner and We will get Android Q also...
UI-- If you want a slow cluttered UI which makes simple tasks difficult...get RN5P
Asus stock rom is the best...
Face unlock is faster on RN5P whereas FP sensor seems to be same...
One major plus point for Redmi note 5 pro
You can use it as a Heatpad if you have backache because it gets burning hot while charging..lol
Why having this discussion... Go for Redmi note 6 pro or wait for azmp m2

Note 6 pro looks good but after i tested it in the store with my friend's Note 5 pro, i realised that Note 6 pro is just Note 5 pro with a notch.

I looked in the forums and i realised that Max pro m1 is getting a lot of issues with the new update : Battery drain. Not my cup of tea.
I noticed you gave more cons on the note 5 pro than on Max pro m1, giving me the impression that you never ever tested a note 5 pro.
My friend who owns a note 5 pro doesn't have any of the issues given above. I agree that the software lags (it sometimes lags on 3gb ram version, 0 lag on 4gb ram).
I am sorry but your arguments are invalid here, but thanks for the opinion, i guess..
Also Note 5 pro has quite a full development range so the laggy software can be easily fixed with a custom rom.

All phones that don't have any kind of thermal cooling can heat. Adding thermal paste that is a higher grade (arctic mx-4) will solve any heat issues in the device, at the cost of more external cooling.
Both asus and redmi use the metal back and frame as a external heatsink. If you play without a case then it will ofc heat up.

Should I sell my poco for mi 9t

Should I sell my poco for mi 9? The battery is ****y for me and mi9t screen is tempting.
We don't know if you should sell it. But the only Pro thing in Poco is the performance, and much bigger development. Nothing else. Even though the SD730 is still good and you don't feel much difference when multitasking or opening apps compared too SD 845.
only if you want notch-less display. And an oled. Not that this oled would be something to write home about, but anyone's preference is different, the colors are peppy enough but the outdoor visibility is mediocre and probably not much better than the ips on f1. But flat screen, minimal bezels and chin, no notch is a thing that makes using a phone really immersive.
And battery is great on mi9t, so if the battery life is important for you and poco is not delivering the goods, this probably won't be a step back. The SD730 performs quite well actually.
Battery is far an away better on the 9T. I had a Mi 8 Pro before the 9T, which I'm guessing had similar batter to the Poco. The 9T lasts at LEAST twice as long, and I really can't tell much of a difference in performance otherwise. The fingerprint scanner on the 9T is excellent - better than the 8 Pro, better than the Galaxy S10, and better than the OnePlus 7. Even with dirty hands, the 9T's scanner works.
I have both, prefer Poco F1!
If the battery is your main issue then switching to the 9T will give you a way better battery with a bunch of extras too, Like a notch less immersive OLED display, a premium feeling design & a bunch of other stuff as well. That being said the thing that the F1 outruns the 9T in is the SD845 and trust me it's not that different from the SD730, You'll get some hiccups in Gaming performance but it will run pretty much anything GPU extensive on medium graphics, Plus it's way more efficient in battery consumption and will run day to day tasks just like the 845.
