Too many roms but.. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

There are too many custom ROMs for our phones but all of them are a bit same as pixel experience.. is there something different? Like oxygen os or one ui??

Hmmm, not agree with you. Pixel experience rom is as close as possible to the pixel's phone, UI and services or at least that's the goal, even if the rom for our phone is still a bit buggy of what I can read (even if the maintainer don't agree and ban every one saying that on telegram).
But many other ROMs offers you customization, more possibilities, and lots of different stuff. I think about havoc, bootleggers, crdroid, aex, etc ...
Each one match the attempt of different users, there is no best rom (but bad dictator Devs exists...), It's up to you to find the one who is closer to your daily use.
Just an opinion of course, I'm not pretending l'm always right and will be happy to read others different point of view.

I believe that all ROMs that you write are very close to pixel experience. I tried all of them and have very same things.. a lot of people waiting for something different.. something like oxygen os or one ui android

Onestly I think that every rom' family start from Lineage based sources and add its own customization & other things.
I'm on Lineage now. Clean, simple. That's all.
My 2 cents :good:

Yes actually this.. all ROMs start fro lineage but all are similar to each other.. For example for redmi note 7 pro there are oxygen os rom and one ui like Samsung phones.. is there anybody who can build these ROMs for our phones? Something different

Is CyanogenMod worth it?

I'm running PureNexus and its a great rom but is CyanogenMod a viable choice for this phone? I haven't really seen threads on it but i see there are nightlies being built.
Coming from an OPO CM was a pretty big deal but it doesn't seem so here. Is anyone running it that can give their opinion?

Lots of good choices and I've tried at least a half dozen. It's completely subjective but so far my personal favorites are RR, Pure Nexus and Screw'd. RR has all the extras most would want but it's really stable as well.
Yea I think CM gets lots of attention because it seems to be a popular rom to port to devices that don't have as many roms (or none at all besides CM.) Not that it's not really good. I've used it on other devices. Some were really stable, others I'd need to do clean installs every month or so. Using multirom now and have Pure Nexus as my primary rom with Uberstock and RR as secondary, but that could change from week to week.

PureNexus is great, really stable but i might try RR for the features. Isn't it CM based?

Based on CM and others. Take a look its right there in the OP

It's certainly buggy, but I've found it worthwhile. Root access, privacy guard and call whitelisting are features I'd not want to be without.

Changing ROM from xXx. Need help deciding.

Hi folks,
I want to change my ROM from xXx to another one, because xXx doesn't feel as fast as it used to be. And I wantto try another one. What ROM would you suggest? Which ROMS are considered popular, fast, stable andwith good support and user base? Thanks for helpimg me deciding, I want to narrow it down to 2 - 3 alternative ROMS to xXx mad try them and decide which suits me most.
Notice
please do not hate me for another topic which may seem dumb to you. I have been reading XDA Developers daily since I got my android (I started with HTC HD2, heh). I know there is no correct answer to my question and I believe most of you will reply something like " don't ask, just try" or "it is stupid question" or "go to other forum in this section, because we want to trashtalk you there".
I know that most of the users here on XDA are helpful, and so am I - I try to give advices to others whenever I think hadI experienced and solved any problem that other users might have had. But sadly there is also the loud minority of users that instead of helping others just replies something like "RTFM" (in better case). So, if You are this kind of people, please do not answer.Yes, I googled. Yeas, I read comparisons< just want to hear yout tips etc..
Thanks, folks!
Since owning my OP5, I have tried the following roms:
Freedom OS
then tired
xXx (for many months)
But recently, i'm now on
AquariOS 8.1.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...om-aquarios-8-1-0-live-support-volte-t3768515
For me it’s d.u the most stable rom and aicp just after.
Have you considered that the setup on your phone and not just the ROM could also affect performance? What kernel and settings do you have? What other mods and tweaks do you use?

I would love to use AquariOS also .. But when I tried it I ended getting reboots always when using portable hotspot so that was a deal breaker for me .. Which version you are?
Also Im coming from xXx and now using aosp extended .. rather would use AquariOS
Why not try resurrection remix? I'm using it ever since 7.2 and it's amazing
I was on OOS until a few weeks ago. I tried a few custom ROMs, but crDroid seems to take the cake for me. It's pretty stable, has nice features, it's just great overall. I suggest giving it a try.

I am using blu_spark kernel, but with xXx ROM I am fed up with every other version there is a bug which makes me spent few hours figuring how to even boot the phone :/
Go for codename Phoenix. You can use camera m with all features working. It's also pretty smooth and gets updated often.

Thanks, will try.
I tried AquariOS, but the ROM is not ready for encrypted phones and has battery-related issues, despite being super beautiful and ultra fast. So I came back to xXx, this time to 10.3 version. But I will try other roms, so I can post updates here if anyone is interested.
Yet I must say I hoped for far larger number of people giving their thoughts, when I see how many users downloads and uses custom ROMS, as well as how many discuss threads.
Anyway, thank y'all!
I was on xXx for many months. Today am gonna try the Ressurection Remix (the GSI one) since project Treble is ported to our phone!

What's the point of custom roms

What's the point of custom ROMs when we already have OOS I mean it's customizable, speedy has fast update like seriously what's the point though sacrificing features like fingerprint, etc sorry if this offended some of you just asking.
I'm sure you'll get a lot of different answers because there is no ONE answer.
First and foremost people here on XDA just love to play with things! Flashoholics if you will! But if your looking for more then that:
Support for a phone long past it's EoL. I'm fairly certain Lineage is still updating for OnePlus 1, among the other plethora of devices, and thats just 1 rom.
Targeted feature sets: Some people will build a rom based on specific feature sets, like for example going full audiophile. Building in all kinds of tools and mods geared toward that. It's far easier to pick up your favorite rom from a like minded community that has everything you want built in than to do it all yourself.
Those would be 2 of the largest reasons imo. As far as your comment on no fingerprint with a custom rom, that maybe true "right now", but once 1+ releases the source code every custom rom for this device will have that feature working. So really it's a none issue, or more will be a none issue in the future. Just my 2 cents
OOS is okay, but I much prefer an AOSP looking ROM (like Havoc OS) or whatever. Way too many reasons to even list.
Custom roms will have way more features but fingerprint is not working now. Once they get FP working I'm flashing with no hesitation. I've ran roms on my last devices - OnePlus 3T and Motorola Nexus 6 and enjoyed the experience much more than stock. You seem to think more things other than FP aren't working but in my research that is the only thing. Maybe the camera optimization is a little better on OOS but I just take basic pictures so that never bothered me.
Let's flip the question around and why would you come on XDA and ask such a question? That's like being on a forum dedicated to car modifications and then you come in and ask why would you do that to your car when stock works fine?
Ehhh did I write this????

Best supported ROM for longevity?

I'm passing my Mi 9T on to my better half in the next week or two and looking to find out which ROM will have the longest support and security updates.
I'm currently running Pixel Experience (May release) which hasn't been updated by me in a long time, I see there are 2x forks/version of this now as well as a picsel inexperience.
I see these as the options:
- Stock MIUI - not a fan myself
- Xiaomi.ue - found this good on other devices
- Pixel Experience or one of the spin of versions- will it be supported for another 1-2 years?
- ExtendedUI - I found this better than PE+ but support got dropped until very recently
- Lineage - Long time since I used LOS but has been good and I see good feedback.
I know there are others such as Havoc and MSM which seem popular but I know little about those if I'm honest.
Looking for a rom with long term support, good battery for browsing youtube, listening to podcasts and general browsing. I'm inclined to go with PE+ or ExtendedUI but looking for opinions on what others might suggest is as a good alternative?

LOS
Just my two cents. As little as I like Miui, I have the feeling that the only rom that's going to be maintained long-term for this phone is the stock rom.
I wouldn't rely on any rom by a third party at this point: most developers end up abandoning their projects sooner or later, and the label "official" is being given to projects with more indulgence than in the past. I think you'd be better off with the stock rom customized to your liking, especially if the person who's going to use it is not that interested in installing an alternative system (something which they can always do in the future anyway).

The person using it will just use the phone, I'll probably end up doing the updates if there are any, they are not tech savy. For this reason I also think along the same lines about MIUI.
I've really enjoyed using PE+ and ExtendedUI before it, in either case development stalled and both have resumed again more recently.
I have wondered about the "Official" label given to roms and it's meaning, LOS is the only one I'm aware of with some sort of clout behind them?
Maybe I'll stick to MIUI, the question then becomes which version (global presumably) or should I look at Xiaomi.EU?
I think, if you stick to Miui, the best is to stick to the version that came with your phone. There's very little difference anyway. I don't know about xiaomi.eu, I have never tried it, but it's basically Miui with some bells and whistles.
As for the label "official", people associate this label with well-maintained ROMs in terms of both stability and features. But this is not always the case: there are official ROMs these days which are anything but stable, and conversely unofficial ROMs which are very well maintained. I wouldn't rely too much on it.

You've almost convinced me on going back to stock MIUI for her, I might have a look at Xiaomi.eu as I did like this in the past but it will depend on how frequently there are updates for the Mi 9T.
I hear what you're saying about the custom roms and official status.

Fastest/Smoothest ROM for Nexus 6?

HI everyone
I'm currently running LineageOS17 in my Shamu, but i'm wondering if there is a faster or smother room for the device
I'm really happy with LineageOS actually, it's just curiosity, I read that it's HavocOS, somebody can confirm?
Many thanks!

All ROMs use LineageOS's shamu kernel and device code, so you won't see much of a difference.
I've used several Android 10 ROMs, including LOS, and have settled on crDroid because it has a lot of customisation (though in itself that's normal) but also Face Unlock, which I really like. Other ROMs may also have it - I haven't checked. Overall I agree with Elektroschmock - since they use the same code base you'll find it difficult to find huge differences. They have all been stable for me - just Face Unlock made the difference for me, but I reckon you'll be happy with pretty much any one of them.
Edit after three days. Right, that's it for me. I'm taking my own advice. This is definitely the last time I'll offer any help or support to a junior member. I'm done with their lack of interest in answers.

Because someone doesn't reply doesn't mean they have no interest .
I feel like XDA would be more active if there is a Discord. Reddit is also a good resource that has taken over the popularity of sites

For clarification why there are two different forums:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112240
So "Android Development" is the right place for most ROMs as the only thing they do is rename some LineageOS stuff.

I was just answering his question.
I was answering with Android 10 ROMs in my mind.
If you do a proper Android 11 bringup for shamu, it would be justified to post it in original development.
And Yes I would use your repositories - thats the spirit oft open source. But I suspect they are in a state where it's better to keep them closed as I do with mine.
I love full gestures in Android 10, so I tried several roms to find the smoothest one with full gestures on: Lineage, crDroid, Pure Pixel, Carbon. All with original kernels, nanoGapps and some 20 apps of mine installed.
The smoothest performance over time I found with Pixel Experience, using Lawnchair2 as a home launcher.
Cheers
PS: all of them roms run super smooth if you do not use full gestures, and each has its super nice tweaks
