Hello
Could somebody please help me? I would like to know the minimal focus distance of the Sony Xperia X Compact. I just got one but get the impression the camera can't auto-focus correctly. Everything closer than 13 cm cannot become in focus.
I use an unrooted stock 8.0 rom & the vanilla camera app in auto mode.
What is your device minimal focus distance (while getting a sharp image).
Many thx in advance!

For the Moto X Pure, no matter what app I use, even though still pictures and videos are relatively focused and clear, when I do photosphere or panorama, the images are extremely blurry. The camera appears to drop focus from the moment the photosphere/panorama is selected, and the images come out looking like they were taking with a 320x240 camera blurred to smooth out the artifacts, when viewed at full resolution. Example attached.
It appears to be a focus issue because when I move the camera to a new capture-dot, it immediately captures a new image rather than how it was on the Nexus 5, which focused first, and then took the picture. In any case, it looks "ok" as a thumbnail sized image, but at anywhere close to full resolution, it's unusable.
This has been this way since I bought the phone, and normally I'd think it was a defect. But looking online at samples, it seemed like this was just how the Moto X Pure "worked." Yet, coming from a Nexus 5, that actually creates full resolution photospheres/panorama that are in-focus, it's really frustrating.
Has there ever been a fix for this? Or is it that my camera really has been defective this whole time, even though it works for non-photosphere/panorama images?
I'm sorry to bump, just wondering if anyone has any response to this - I've been looking for a solution since I got this phone, so any input would be great.
Just a note, I had this same problem on an LG G2. When I was running stock (5.0) google camera worked fine, but when I switched to an AOSP/CM rom (12/12.1/13) then the stitching settings would never focus before snapping (just picked some arbitrary focal point and stuck to it, instead of refocusing for every snap).
I get this on stock 6.0, 6.0.1 and CM/AOSP roms on my XT1575 - same exact problem, and same empty searches on the internet.
Nothing useful to add, just that I'm facing the exact same problem. It does not seem like it would be too difficult to fix. I'm disappointed that no one seems to care about it.
same here, really bums me out that the focus isnt good on panorama's or photo spheres!
Hi.
My previous phone was a huawei p1. I bought the camera fv5 app and the images were great. The phone started to behave strange and I started to look for a better phone. Decided on the s4. I read that it's camera was great and I thought that the fv5 app will remove the plastic of the images as it did on my p1. But it didn't. I'm so disappointed.
Here are the examples:
huawei

samsung

Why can't s4 shoot the same and how to fix it?
It looks like the p1 shoots raw which is impossible.
Thanks.
You might want to explain with some added information, because based upon what I've seen in the two pictures I'm having a difficult time understanding what the problem actually is. Claiming the P1 picture is better than the S4 is a major stretch. It doesn't help when your Huawei's image is blurry and indistinct, while the S4 image is razor sharp.
P. S. Unless you use Androslide's Camera Zoom FX Pro you're not shooting in RAW.
But the p1 is better, there s more detail if you pay attention (look at the tree needles), there s more highlight detail with better color and no overexposure, the shadows are smooth and there s no huge contrast, there s no oversharpning and overprocessing of the details (no plastic look), there s actually nice noise that makes for a real image, it looks as a raw image.
Both images were made with camera fv5 app on andr 6 and andr 4.4.1
It is strange why can't the s4 take the same quality picture, why is there that layer of postprocessing on s4 that an old phone like p1 misses?
Have you tried taking pictures with the s4 running stock 5.01 with the stock Samsung camera app?
No, i haven t. Have you? Is it any different?
Is it possible to see a 100% crop?
I don't have the phone at the moment but people I know that habe the phone the pictures are pretty good. These are people that run everything stock.
I have, and the picture quality is excellent. I didn't notice any sharpening issues using the S4 camera and stock firmware. In fact, the pictures it took are comparable to the ones coming from my Nexus 6, and this is despite not having OIS or exposure bracketing HDR; the stock Samsung firmware uses software filters to emulate HDR.
I can't test the stock firmware now because I'm running Android 7.0 on the device and have Camera Zoom FX Pro installed, but I'm still not seeing the OP's issues he claims are in the S4 image. I have a good eye for composition and a decent eye for picture quality, and to me that S4 image is perfectly fine. It could have been improved using HDR, but for a sample shot it's well framed and the colors accurate compared to the P1.
Hello. Can anyone please modify this camera by any mean (xposed etc..) to work on MM??when i launch it says no available storage. This was my favourite camera app till i was on KK.It shoots only with on 3.2MP and 5MP but dudes really...you won't believe your eyes with the colours and clarity regard to very small picture sizes.(600-800KB or less)Most of times was even better from my old Xperia Z1 shooting at 8MP!!!Dude really this camera worths to anyone who want excellent photos and has little space on sd.Thanks.

After taking a few pictures with the tele camera I noticed some really weird artifacts. After testing a little bit more I noticed that the tele camera is not always used.
So today I did some controlled tests. Set up a close scene, took a picture with the wide camera (from approx 25 cm), switched to 2x, then switched back to 1x and zoomed in by getting the phone closed.
While I was taking the 2nd picture the phone was clearly switching between cropping the wide camera and using the tele camera (with a slight change in frame size and angle).
The result is that many times the phone uses only the wide camera or switches to the tele camera at will, without providing any information to the user. Accordingly, one's pictures might only be cropped versions of the data from the wide camera, with the inherited artifacts.
Am I the only one noticing this?
Here are the three pics:

PS: The phone is running Oxygen OS v4.5.10
redo the test.
A guy did a lot of test on a tri-pod and then compared the pictures very closely on a computer.
Both camera are always used, but most of the time one add a little bit of sharpness in the picture.
Not because you cover on lens, that it means it's not working. It only means that the pictures wont be as sharp, but the difference is very minimal.
Here how it works;
In good light conditions, the 20Mp sensor is used for the x2 zoom. It does not switch to 16Mp. On the other hand as soon as the light becomes insufficient it switches on the 16Mp to zoom at x2. And uses the 20Mp to improve the photo; giving it more details.
When the light condition is average and the 20Mp is hidden, at this time it switches to the 16Mp, but without hiding it, it stays on the 20Mp and uses the 16 for more detail and exposure.
This as been said, in some condition, such as very dark scene, the 20mp, could not be used at all, hard to see since the pictures are too dark.
Has anyone found out how to decouple the two back cameras on stock oos?
Sometimes I'd like to make that lens choice myself, but still be able to use the OOS Camera at other times.
On stock, the two back cameras behave as one with all the third party apps I've tried.
On custom ROMs, the phone shows three cameras.
Hey Folks
I just wanted to share this with everyone...
I'm running OS. v. 4.101.. (Aug 2017)
I love this phone, its awesome, great Audio.. really fast, no stutter or lag.... 32Gb Internal w/SDCard, although I think the screen on the original XAU was a LITTLE brighter and more vivid..
Like some folk here.. I started out having Camera Shake / Blurry Images when taking a shot in Manual Mode and Ive been having the same red, purple noisy tint in very Low Light in Manual Mode that some have also posted about, but it can be a struggle to take steady shots in Manual Mode in daylight as well.. However, thanks to the Newer updated imaging algorithm found in the XZ1 and XZP which from what Ive read, SONY have used in our XA1U... it functions really great in Auto Mode, so SONY phones can now be used as great Point and Shoots.. and we no longer have to struggle anymore with ISO 50 or 100, WB and Metering.
But in Manual Mode, Ive found that by permanently keeping the camera at 12MPX (both Auto and Manual Modes)... gives great steadier shots... 20 and 23MPx modes, for me, give Blurred and poor image quality, kinda like camera shake. .. But as everyone knows MPx don't mean squat in "true" photography, only on YouTube and less MPx means less processing, so steadier image. Used to be the same in the older "Z" series where 8MPx was the magic number..
Also, in Manual Mode.. goto settings and set the Metering to "Centre" weighted, so your light metre is set to your point of focus and when you half-press the shutter to focus.. don't hold the focus for too long as it can shift, like most cameras will.
Give it a try and Lets know if it works for you.
Thanks for the suggestion. While I didn’t change all the settings you recommended, simply bumping the resolution down to 12 megapixels has improved many things, including shutter lag and processing speed. I noticed when using manual, taking photos from a moving car resulted in unusable images with ghosting or extreme shutter lag. It was very frustrating for a while there. 12 mp is slightly less sharp but also less noisy... I can live with it.
I’ve been a Sony Xperia user for a while now and I’ve always had mixed feelings about their smart phone Cameras. Megapixels are always high, with several innovative camera features and ‘firsts’, but image quality has never lived up to other brands.
I have taken amazing shots with these, but those are almost always outdoors and in sunlight.
The camera on results on the XA1 are essentially the same as I’ve gotten on all the Z series phones (Go figure, since it’s the Z5 camera sensor).

Thanks for this, I definitely see some improvements as you mentioned yourself...
Hi there,
I would like to install a AOSP ROM zip file, but whenever I look for it I never find it
Can someone help me please and give me some page or even a link?
Thank you
