I had an HTC Thunderbolt before I got the LG G2, so I had tons of $5 USB micro cables and wall/car chargers sitting around. Well apparently none of those cables are compatible with the G2 and when using the USB cable that came with the G2 with the car chargers I have(the $5 ones from Frys) it only "slow charges".
If I get some cheap cables/chargers from Frys or Amazon, how can I know in advance if it is compatible to allow the standard charging capabilities of the G2?

I'm getting the G2 in a couple of weeks and I have the generic T-Mobile car charger. I can only hope it works because it's the only one they sell.
eta-On the T-Mobile site it says it's compatible. I guess I will find out soon enough.

How much Current does your car carger supply? Most car chargers are around 0.5A. I think the G2 needs something like 2A in order not not "Slow Charge". The G2 has a fast charging rate.

I'm pretty sure it's a .5A.
BUT what about the cables? it wouldn't even work at all with any other cable besides the one that came with the G2.

It should be 5 volts, 2 amps.
From the AnandTech review:
The G2 can negotiate a 2A charge rate on my downstream charge port controller and charges very fast in that mode. Of course the PM8941 PMIC also includes some new features that Qualcomm has given QuickCharge 2.0 branding.

You should also be safe with chargers rated above 2A, as long as they are 5V. The device will only pull as many amps as it needs.

I think that only applies to Verizon phones. I think they do something to make other chargers not compatible. I have had that issue with different phones throughout time and everytime it was always a Verizon phone. Never have I had that problem with any other carriers phones. I could be wrong but Verizon always does extra things to their phones to be a pain in the ass so its not impossible.
european open has this, too, no org htc or logitech or samsung cable is willing to give its juice through, or better, lg ignores it

Actually, I have the Verizon G2 and can attest that NONE of the gazillion USB cables I've had for various purposes over the years (including my Galaxy S3 and S4) will allow for the Fast Charge feature to work with this phone. They only support the slow charge, which pulls only about .5A of current, even if using a 2A charger... Further, I have several cables that dont allow ANY charge whatsoever. They charge my S3 fine (also Verizon), but when looking at battery monitoring apps, they only show as USB connected, but still are discharging..
I'm actually trying to find where I can buy a USB cable that will support Fast charge as I lost my original one... Any one know?

The BlackBerry q10 charger and the nexus 4 usb cable combo is what I use. They charge the phone just as fast, if not faster,than the stock g2 ones.
The only time I get the slow charge notification is when I use my pc to charge the phone.

Who is your carrier?
The Verizon model detects anything other then a USB 3.0 charger and forces a slow charge (500mah).
Only the Verizon does this. Only the included cable works. Its not the bricks but the CABLE. We are discussing this in detail in another thread.

Have Fast Charge Working
I have the Verizon version of the LG G2. I have found a couple of ways that it will fast charge. I have been able to use a Nexus 7 charger and USB cable. Also found a car charger that will fast charge: GT Max USB car charger that has both a 2A and 1A USB ports. But it will only fast charge with the heavier USB cables. With the lighter cables (USB sync cables) it will slow charge.
Also found an app called CurrentWidget that will show the battery charge rate. This has been very helpful in determining the right combination.
My N7 charger works but only when using the stock cable. In fact, fast charge (ie normal charge) only works with the stock cable. I have not found another cable that fast charges.
My car has the data pins shorted and will fast charge, but actually doesn't charge at all. A 2 hour drive and my battery was actually lower while on the charger. Goofy.

LG has confirmed that, yes, the G4 does support Quick Charge 2.0. The company tells Pocketnow that while it didn’t set out with plans to support the feature, the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 processor in the G4 means that the phone does technically support it. The bad news is that the G4’s in-box wall charger doesn’t support Quick Charge 2.0, so you’re going to need a new wall wart — such as the Motorola Turbo Charger — if you want to juice up your G4 in a hurry.

Yeah the issue was it out of the box it has neither.
To wireless charge you need a case or a sticker. To fast charge you need to buy your own charger. So when a reviewer gets the phone out of the box neither of these are available and that's where the confusion came from. Good conformation nevertheless.
I'm glad there's a thread about it, hopefully it doesn't drive the price higher on the device once officially released They are competing to get Samsung and Apple users for the most part. All these favorable reviews and positive feedback Internet Wide should do the trick.
Honestly I was aiming towards the Galaxy S6 myself but am glad I held off until the G4 was officially out. Unless there's a serious problem with the the device I am 99.9% sure that this will be my next smartphone.
Even current Galaxy S6 users are looking at the G4 and that is saying a lot.

Yeah but the weird thing is I have the nexus 2.0 charger and even with that it doesn't quick charge like my nexus.
I am thinking it will be a software update with changes to the kernel.

Its possible, that reviewer on the video Ive posted could have already updated the software. Do you have another quick charge cable you can try it on, maybe a Samsung one?

I read that LG said that Quick Charge will be enabled in the software the G4 is officially released with. Since the reviewers have pre-release software they don't have it.
The Android Central podcast said they tried the Motorola Turbo Charger with the G4, but the phone said an unknown charger was connected and to charge at full speed use the LG charger.
So can someone provide a link to turbo chargers or manufacturer and model of charges that support this?
The reason why i assume is that the Kernel doesn't have the feature integrated yet or it isn't enabled

So can we all agree - at least in USA - that QC is not actually turned on yet. I kind of thought it would be on, since the acknowledged the chip/phone was capable, but we need to buy our own adaptors. Well, I bought a few QC 2.0 plugs, but I'd say they are doing nothing (I have never had QC 2.0 so not entirely sure what to look for other than "faster" charging - which does not seem to happen). Apparently they acknowledged too late in the shipping cycle to actually update the device to accept QC 2.0. BTW, I have seen companies, even in the ship cycle, send an update to devices so when you got them, they updated when started up.
I've been using my 2.0 charger that I bought from amazon for my Z3 and it is indeed working. phone charges at slightly faster than a percentage point a minute.

Yup its just not active. And the new M feature doze. is a joke its in the framework of Android 5.0 of both G3 and G4 not sure if active though
So.. I'm confused. I got the phone last night and it took like 9 hours to fully charge to 100%.
I don't get my QC 2.0 charger until next week, but ... is it confirmed that it isn't activated?

No simply that the phone's chip supports it but you need the proper charger for it.
It shouldn't take 9 hours even with the out of the box charger, more like 2 hours maximum.
The European H815 will charge at 9V, but the LG G4 draws nothing like the current which other Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 devices do.

I'm reading from other threads that it's normal to have slow charges the first few times..
Is this not accurate? That was literally my first charge.
No phone I have ever owned has charged slowly the first few times.
If you are using the stock cable/charger something is either faulty or they just didn't handshake together properly. I have had that happen a few times, not regularly though.
Like I say using the standard charger it should take around 120mins, you will only save 20mins or so at the moment by using an Aukey charger.

Thanks for the information. Is it safe to assume that this is just a guess or an estimate, since you haven't actually used a QC 2.0 charger on the G4? Or is this proven by your device?
The only reason why I question is because there are a lot of G4 users on QC 2.0 chargers who are stating that they are having great experience with their charge times in comparison to the stock charger.
By stating that it's a 100 min with a QC 2.0 vs 120 min with a 1.8V charger, you're not talking about much of a difference.
stock charger stopped working and phone no longer turbo charge.. tried a replacement that worked for 2 months and stopped as well.. phone only chargers with regular usb/chargers.. I'm guessing it's a software problem or could be hardware as well but I'm not the only one with this problem I'm sure.. Anyone have a fix?
Highly unlikely it is a software issue... The Moto X is very finicky about Turbo Chargers and the cable, always use a high quality cable and power supply, I recommend Eversame microUSB cables and Aukey QC 2.0 chargers (car or A/C), I have used them for a long time with no issues at all. Come to think of it, my original charger is probably still in the box, don't think I have ever used it. lol

Well I bought another charger off amazon and that didn't work as well.. Probably gonna give either chargers u mentioned a try... Just wanna hear everyone's views on this
I had a stock motorola charger stop working as well. I've moved on to higher quality cables like he said.

Just had the same thing happen to me literally a few minutes ago. Turbo charger isn't working so I have to use a regular one. Just ordered the cable and charger in acejavelin's post.
A Samsung charger from like the S7 will quick charge the phone. At least mine does. It even gives the TurboCharge toast after plugging it in.

Yes, because that charger is QC2.0 compliant, I have used on of my son's S7 Edge chargers on more than occasion with no problems and it gets "Turbo charge" just fine... So will most other OEM chargers that are Quick Charge 2.0 compliant.
Can i use a quallacom quick charge charger rated at [email protected] (i guess what turbo power gives is 9v at 1.67A)
P.s both give charging current of nearly 2500ma in ampere app,my original moto charger is not wrking and i am out of warranty

Yes, you can use a QC 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0 charger with this phone... although I would HIGHLY recommend only using a QC 3.0 charger if possible, it is much better at delivering variable power needed for quick charging and controlling temperatures in the battery. When you use a QC 1.0 or 2.0 charger, the phone has to step down to that version, which will still charge faster than a "standard" charger, but it will increase battery temperatures while charging significantly which over extended use can reduce the overall life and capacity of the battery.

I don't think you understand, there is no charger specifically for the SD625 or any other chipset... this is merely Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology, but Moto/Lenovo didn't want to pay the licensing/royalty or whatever else to call it that, so they call it TurboPower. I have a Qualcomm QC 2.0 adapter here at my desk and if I connect it, it clearly says "TurboPower Connected".

Again, I don't understand what you mean. The SD625 support Quick Charge 3.0, but the charger supplied with the device is a QC 2.0 compliant adapter that is labeled "TurboPower", at least in the US. If I connect a Samsung GS7 to the Moto charger, it shows Fast Charging as well.
I am not trying to be argumentative, but I don't understand what are you trying to say here.

But Moto g5 plus doesn't support quick charge 3.0. I read somewhere that it supports only quick charge 2.0

Honestly? I'm guessing it's a royalty or licensing thing, they can't say "Quick Charge 3.0" because they didn't pay the fee.
Just my guess... I have nothing to back that up.

Have you ever tried the Quick charge 3.0? Some users report that quick charge 3.0 doesn't work. I haven't tried it coz I don't have the QC 3.0 charger

Dude, don't double post. It's a waste of space, time, and creates pointless threads.
QC3 Chargers can use QC2 to charge devices. Whether or not the phone supports it is irrelevant.

And both will work fine. A 8 second Google search will tell you this. Try looking before asking!

Ok, using "highly" and "much better" here might have been a bit overkill... From 1.0 to 2.0 the difference is huge, from 2.0 to 3.0 not so much, especially on a device like this that isn't drawing a ton of current consistently.
Is a 3.0 charger better for the longevity of the battery, and thus the device, over the long term? Yes. Is it significant enough to pay the extra over a 2.0 charger? That's your call... After a year or so of consistent use it might not even make a significant difference in battery life, it may add a month ot two to the longevity of the phone over it's lifespan, no one can say for sure because each case is unique.
My chargers, except car chargers, far out last my phones, I've had the same charger on my nightstand for 4-5 years now (seriously, it's from a Blackberry Playbook) so it's an investment...
I don't understand the issue here... A good QC 3.0 charger is a few bucks more than a 2.0 charger, and if you look you can get one for $10-$12, so is two or three dollars worth worrying about this?
If you are just concerned about what is best for the battery, never use a quick charger at all...

I don't understand the issue here... A good QC 3.0 charger is a few bucks more than a 2.0 charger, and if you look you can get one for $10-$12, so is two or three dollars worth worrying about this?
If you are just concerned about what is best for the battery, never use a quick charger at all...

I use right now Aukey QC 2.0 charger and I consider buying QC 3.0 charger so thank you for the explanation.

That is my charger at work... If you have a QC 2.0 charger, don't bother getting a new one. If you are buying one, get a 3.0 one.
I know this thread is a little dated and I'm a late comer to this thread, but I just bought the g5 plus on a black friday deal at best buy $300 down to $225, US xt1678 variant, 64gb storage and 4gb ram, I jsut could not resist it for that price, and....it was actually cheaper than the 32gb storage 2gb ram variant which was listed at $229
Anyways on to my question, this is for acejavelin. You said your qc 2.0 worked and came up as showing turbo charging (not just normal charging)? I hope I am reading this correctly. Also is this one of those Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0 chargers, that's what I was looking at buying for my car and was curious if it worked. Just checking to make sure I'm reading the thread correctly.
I recently just bought a 2.1 fast charge lighter plugin, but guess what, it doesn't turbocharge only normal charge. I tried with the cord that came with the phone, as well as 2 other cords and still only normal charge for each one.
Now with my wall charger (the provided turbocharger that came with the g5 plus) in the house, all 3 cords work and show as turbocharge as long as I am using the provided moto turbo charge wall charger.
I also was curious and tried an old samsung charger that I used on I think it was the s4, last samsung I owned lol. With my nexus 5x which has USB-C worked wonderfully with it, but sadly turbo charge does not work so well with the samsung wall charger, because it does not show as turbo charge, but only normal charge on the g5 plus.
I just got the Verizon LG G6 and have been testing out the charging. I can't get it to charge about 800Ma using any chargers. Yes, I have quick charge 3.0 capable charger and cable that I've used on other devices and gotten 1500+. Could my G6 be defective or do others have such paltry charging?

QC works only with your display off.
Even without QC, my previous phone, a Galaxy Note 3 would get 1200-1500 Ma as measured through Ampere. The G6 is getting 500-800.
Yeah, this thing is going back. 3:14 to fully charge (screen off the entire time) using a proven working QC 3.0 charger.

I did read his post very carefully. He stated that the charger has “proven QC3.0“ capabilities.

"Proven" as in I've used this charger on several QC 3.0 capable devices without problem.
I tried another one and the same thing. At best, this phone has been getting about 1/2% per minute charging no matter what charger I've used. It has a GPS issue as well. I've already begun the return process. Just waiting on my new phone, a LG V30.
