Stock charger no longer work - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

stock charger stopped working and phone no longer turbo charge.. tried a replacement that worked for 2 months and stopped as well.. phone only chargers with regular usb/chargers.. I'm guessing it's a software problem or could be hardware as well but I'm not the only one with this problem I'm sure.. Anyone have a fix?

Highly unlikely it is a software issue... The Moto X is very finicky about Turbo Chargers and the cable, always use a high quality cable and power supply, I recommend Eversame microUSB cables and Aukey QC 2.0 chargers (car or A/C), I have used them for a long time with no issues at all. Come to think of it, my original charger is probably still in the box, don't think I have ever used it. lol

Well I bought another charger off amazon and that didn't work as well.. Probably gonna give either chargers u mentioned a try... Just wanna hear everyone's views on this

I had a stock motorola charger stop working as well. I've moved on to higher quality cables like he said.

So it's safe to say it's a cable problem.. I bought a similar charger like stock on Amazon and same problem.. Probably need to change brand like u said.. Waiting for other inputs

Just had the same thing happen to me literally a few minutes ago. Turbo charger isn't working so I have to use a regular one. Just ordered the cable and charger in acejavelin's post.

A Samsung charger from like the S7 will quick charge the phone. At least mine does. It even gives the TurboCharge toast after plugging it in.

Yes, because that charger is QC2.0 compliant, I have used on of my son's S7 Edge chargers on more than occasion with no problems and it gets "Turbo charge" just fine... So will most other OEM chargers that are Quick Charge 2.0 compliant.

How to know which chargers/cables are compatible?

I had an HTC Thunderbolt before I got the LG G2, so I had tons of $5 USB micro cables and wall/car chargers sitting around. Well apparently none of those cables are compatible with the G2 and when using the USB cable that came with the G2 with the car chargers I have(the $5 ones from Frys) it only "slow charges".
If I get some cheap cables/chargers from Frys or Amazon, how can I know in advance if it is compatible to allow the standard charging capabilities of the G2?
Thanks,
Craig
I'm getting the G2 in a couple of weeks and I have the generic T-Mobile car charger. I can only hope it works because it's the only one they sell.
eta-On the T-Mobile site it says it's compatible. I guess I will find out soon enough.

How much Current does your car carger supply? Most car chargers are around 0.5A. I think the G2 needs something like 2A in order not not "Slow Charge". The G2 has a fast charging rate.

I'm pretty sure it's a .5A.
BUT what about the cables? it wouldn't even work at all with any other cable besides the one that came with the G2.

It should be 5 volts, 2 amps.
From the AnandTech review:
The G2 can negotiate a 2A charge rate on my downstream charge port controller and charges very fast in that mode. Of course the PM8941 PMIC also includes some new features that Qualcomm has given QuickCharge 2.0 branding.

You should also be safe with chargers rated above 2A, as long as they are 5V. The device will only pull as many amps as it needs.

I think that only applies to Verizon phones. I think they do something to make other chargers not compatible. I have had that issue with different phones throughout time and everytime it was always a Verizon phone. Never have I had that problem with any other carriers phones. I could be wrong but Verizon always does extra things to their phones to be a pain in the ass so its not impossible.
european open has this, too, no org htc or logitech or samsung cable is willing to give its juice through, or better, lg ignores it

Actually, I have the Verizon G2 and can attest that NONE of the gazillion USB cables I've had for various purposes over the years (including my Galaxy S3 and S4) will allow for the Fast Charge feature to work with this phone. They only support the slow charge, which pulls only about .5A of current, even if using a 2A charger... Further, I have several cables that dont allow ANY charge whatsoever. They charge my S3 fine (also Verizon), but when looking at battery monitoring apps, they only show as USB connected, but still are discharging..
I'm actually trying to find where I can buy a USB cable that will support Fast charge as I lost my original one... Any one know?

The BlackBerry q10 charger and the nexus 4 usb cable combo is what I use. They charge the phone just as fast, if not faster, than the stock g2 ones.
The only time I get the slow charge notification is when I use my pc to charge the phone.

Who is your carrier?
The Verizon model detects anything other then a USB 3.0 charger and forces a slow charge (500mah).
Only the Verizon does this. Only the included cable works. Its not the bricks but the CABLE. We are discussing this in detail in another thread.

Have Fast Charge Working
I have the Verizon version of the LG G2. I have found a couple of ways that it will fast charge. I have been able to use a Nexus 7 charger and USB cable. Also found a car charger that will fast charge: GT Max USB car charger that has both a 2A and 1A USB ports. But it will only fast charge with the heavier USB cables. With the lighter cables (USB sync cables) it will slow charge.
Also found an app called CurrentWidget that will show the battery charge rate. This has been very helpful in determining the right combination.
My N7 charger works but only when using the stock cable. In fact, fast charge (ie normal charge) only works with the stock cable. I have not found another cable that fast charges.
My car has the data pins shorted and will fast charge, but actually doesn't charge at all. A 2 hour drive and my battery was actually lower while on the charger. Goofy.

Thanks. But chargers are easy to find. What is difficult to find is a USB cable to work. You'll see in the thread I linked on the first post, lots of people are having challenges with finding USB cables to work even if a charger is well above 2 amps. Even using the stock LG charger, no USB cables seem to work except the one that came with the phone, to eliminate the "slow charge" icon and allow around 1500mA of current to be drawn from the charger like it should in a fast charge..
what cable are you using with your new charger? And do you get the slow charging icon?
I think it all boils down to the charging base... I have used the LG, various Htc and Samsung base units with all kinds of mini & micro USB cables without any issues... The base units are rated from 800mA~1.5 and have not had any slow charging issues... I've only experienced the slow charging when connected to the PC or some car chargers...

I used to run a 1.5' usb cable from monoprice and the GPS on my phone would discharge the battery faster than it could be charged. Now the phone charges so much faster.
I have yet to have a problem with any of the generic monoprice cables and wall charges I bought a couple years ago. Only time I get a slow charge notification is using my 1a car charger. My Optimus G and HTC One X chargers and cable work fine as well.
IT IS NOT THE CHARGER!!
It is something in the cable. And good luck finding one. If you use the included USB cable that came with the G2, then it will charge on ANY charger "normally" (fast charge). If you use ANY OTHER cable, it will slow charge.
I don't know what is in the cable or why it makes a difference, but none of my USB cords/chargers work unless I use the INCLUDED USB CABLE.
I had a thread on this already somewhere in the General Area I think. It REALLY sucks because I have TONS of chargers and cables. I have some at work, home office, bedside, 2 in my car, friends cars, etc. I DO use Wireless Charging at night and luckily the phone has a huge battery to last through the day.
There IS a problem here but my thread got ignored like, "I don't see a problem here, just use the included cable". Well yea if I stayed home all the time. My work makes me travel for work so I have to make sure I remove the 1 working cable and carry it with me EVERYWHERE. What a pain in the butt.
Has anyone tried on custom roms to see if perhaps it is something just on the stock software telling it to go Slo-Mo.
My Verizon non usb attachment cable charges fast. My OEM Spectrum cable does as well. My dual one amp car charger charges slow no matter the cable, and my works Motorola and Kyocera cable charges slow no matter the connection. I have a couple Samsung's I need to test. I do not own any generics. I have not tried other combos.

LG Spectrum cable does not work, slow charge, my fault.
However, the straight plug from my new Verizon car charger does work, the USB port also (ONLY with G2 cable so far[tested lg spectrum, Motorola, Samsung, and Kyocera. Older cables]).
Recap: So far ONLY Direct car charger or USB G2 cable has fast charged. Must be chipped or using some different wire combo?

Ok. I can confirm that the cable used for the Nexus 7 (2012) works.
Also, the original cable for the Samsung Skyrocket works.
Works meaning fast charge.
I can't gurantee that this is the cable, but my skyrocket cable does look like the top cable here:
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-usb-cable
(Charger looks like it too, but the charget won't fast charge G2)
Edit:
The Skyrocket was really picky about cables/chargers. If it didn't have the correct one, it would wakelock. Maybe there's something with the way it's wired that makes it good for the G2 as well.

I wonder if one of these would help:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YX4HDU...UTF8&colid=30QBEX6L12GNN&coliid=IG0PDK7SARZGV
It's something to do with pins 2&3 being bridged that enables a cable to support fast charge.
That adapter linked above is supposed to do that.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. It may be the software in the phone that is causing the issue. I had to replace my car charger so I picked up a rocketfish 3.0 amp charger. When I originally used it, it was ridiculously fast, literally 30% in about 30 or so minutes.
Now, here's why I don't think it has anything to do with the charger cables. When I got my phone, I kept putting off doing the first update because I wasn't sure if I was going to root this phone. During this time, I got very good charging speeds from my rocketfish 3.0 amp car charger and many of my other rapid chargers. When I decided I wasn't going to root, I went ahead and downloaded the update. Now, unless I'm using the cable that came with the phone, I get the slow charging message with every single charger. I went from 30% in 30 to about 10% in 30 on my car charger.
I may need to pull out my tinfoil hat, but it would be a pretty huge coincidence that all my charging woes began with that update.
Yea something isn't right. I have a GNex, G2, Nexus 7 2012 and 2013. I always check for AC charging in Settings>Status. It will say AC or USB. When I got my Nexus 7s I replaced all of my chargers with fast chargers. For 2 years I've been fast charging. I got 3 different fast USB chargers on my desk, using the existing setup, Everything fast charges except the G2. If I use the included G2 cable, it will fast charge off all of them. The same with ALL of my home/office/car/travel chargers.
I can only get it to fast charge when I use the included USB cable.
Its something magical with that cable.

I haven't even unwrapped the charging base and usb cable that came with my G2, they still remain in the box. I have been using the charging bases from my Nexus 4, L9, Htc One X, Motorola Atrix and a GS3 through out my house and have mixed cables from god only knows where and all of them work. I get no slow charging from any combination. Even using mini usb cables with micro usb adapters attached and they all still work. I've checked all the output voltages and the lowest one is 800mA. Have you gotten an OTA update?

Here's my theory,
There are chips either in the battery, the transformer, or both. When the phone doesn't detect what's required, it gives a slow charge message and reduces the charge speed. I have had previous phones with batteries that had built in chips that I had to buy because the generic batteries without the chips wouldn't work as well. I haven't taken a good look at the battery, and the transformer seems abnormally large, when I get a chance and some spares, I'll probably take them apart.
My tinfoil hat is telling me that LG is trying to rope us into buying first-party accessories, but it may also be a way to regulate battery health. Having a non-removable battery, it may be a move by LG to extend the life of the battery as long as possible.
Also, I just rooted my phone and so far no change. I will try the car charger tomorrow.
No updates from Tmobile as of yet... I can only imagine the frustration though. You would think LG would have made charging the phone, regardless of the model more standard across the board.
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
800mA is a slow charge... You should average 1700mA. Our cable is five pinned (if that matters). I need grab the mA reader app again. Now we know there is kernel check for flux ect. I want to know if the cable is pre chipped as well for check and regulation, isn't too uncommon. I'm beginning to lean more on an over aggressive kernel check though or possibly a combo of kernel and certain chip model check. I just find it odd my straight Verizon car charger and only this cable is working for me. Gonna check car cable pins in the morning. Verizon here, OTA taken. Did not check before.

[Q] Some aftermarket chargers will not work

I have a couple 2 amp built-in wall receptacle 5V usb chargers in my house. They have charged everything I have ever owned just fine including my S4 that I just upgraded to an S5. For some reason, these chargers will not charge the S5. My car chargers and every other charger I own, some of which are not Samsung, still charge the S5. Does anyone know why the 5V wall chargers will not work? I have tried different cables too. Everything works fine except these wall chargers. Why would the S5 refuse to charge from them?

Hi,
I am purchased a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 yesterday. The supplied charger works fine. But, I have 6-8 aftermarket micro USB chargers that I purchased from Best Buy (Rocketfish) that do not work. The transformers on those are 2.4 Amp. The transformers on the supplied Samsung chargers are 2.0 Amp. Could this be the issue? Is there any hack to make my aftermarket chargers work?
Did you ever resolve your issue?
my capdase dual charger is not working with galaxy s5
I've had a GS3, a GS4, and now a GS5. The 3 and 4 would charge with any USB charger. Only the charging rate would change. I did some experiments with an old cable and found that the thin wiring in the cable was the culprit of the slow charging. When you get a phone (or tablet) with a 2 amp capable charger, it will be supplied with a cable capable of carrying that much power without a large voltage drop. If you have a lightweight USB cable, the voltage drop in the cable itself will drop below the 4 volts needed at the phone for proper charging.
I have a couple of built-in wall outlet 2 amp capable USB chargers. They charged the S3, S4 and older tablets just fine. Now I have an S5 and just got a Samsung 10.1 pro tablet. Both refuse to charge from the universal 3 amp chargers. They will charge from only the original Samsung chargers or from my laptop. Samsung has changed something in their charging circuits recently. I think if they detect a non-samsung charger they just refuse to charge completely instead of just defaulting to a slower rate. Does anyone know if this is fact or a way I can mod my wall charger to work on the new Sammy devices? I don't mind slow charging.
A couple of my non-samsung chargers not only don't charge but actually drain the battery.
If it is a change then it's not recent. I charge mine from my 3-year-old S2's charger just fine.

OP5 with regular type-C charger is not charging ?

Guys I have found something strange.
Last night I had left my dash charger somewhere so I plugged in my OP5 in a regular charger for the night. The red charging led was on. The following morning, my phone was more or less on the same battery percentage. I installed Ampere from the playstore and the charger, that is supposed to output up to 2.4A or even more using QC3.0, was only charging my battery with 300mAh. I doubt it actually did this all night, considering my battery hadn't charged at all.
Since I've tried 4 other chargers, and it seems I can't get more than 400mAh out of them according to Ampere.
My 3T could be charged with any regular charger, although much slower than dash charging, but I could get 1-2A without problems.
Do you guys have the same? Or is my OP5 broken?
Could somebody please try?
Charging Ok here
With 830mA on an normal USB (1A) charger (Not great but OK)
Well i have a microsoft 3A usb c charger, works like a charm.. not dash but it charges!
Hm, thanks! So either a Quickcharge charger is a problem with th OP5, or my device is broken.
Let me find an old & simple charger to check this.
I've tested it with my QC 3.0 chargers all over the house and in my car and It works like it should.

Since I've tried 4 other chargers, and it seems I can't get more than 400mAh out of them according to Ampere.

have you tried other cables too ? cause they are the problem most of the time.
I charged with Samsung Galaxy S7's fast charger and another USB-C cable and it's working fine and without overheating phone or charger

I'm so happy you posted this.
Indeed, the issue is not the charger or my phone, but the cabling!
I have many cheaper and ultra-cheap USB cables, and some work and others don't. I now got rid of all cables that do not work. I'm a happy man.
Thanks all.

you are welcome.
i also used the app ampere https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere
to test all my cables.. it was very surprising how many of the "quality cables" only provided usb charging while some "cheap cables" provided full power
(not dash power but way better than just usb current 200 - 500 mA)

Question Nothing phone 1 wireless charging issue

I found the wireless charing is extermely slow and even not charging , anyone has similar experience ? Please advise, thanks
This just happened to me today as I tried wireless charging for the first time. Was testing with Samsung 15W charger, gonna look for another charger to see what that does.
Edit: Samsung 15W charger with 25W power supply did not work, Oneplus 50W with 65W adapter worked. Tried the power bricks with both chargers, only 50W+65W combo worked. Looks like it is a little picky with chargers.
Epico Wireless Stand Pro also charging slowly. Charging also stops from time to time. Might be firmware issua?
Alignment seems to need to be pretty much perfect to work...
Already sick of waking up to an uncharged phone so have switched to wired for now.

Yeah. Tried with Samsung charger and it just slides away because of the glass back. This needs a stand to be useful.

This was on one of those Ikea Qi chargers that are covered with fabric for grip... still very awkward to align.
You've reminded me that I do have a Qi charging stand somewhere though... I might dig that out and try it.

Same here.
No issues with an "Amoner" 15W charging stand from Amazon.

Weird... For me with the OnePlus 50W charging station it continuously stops and restarts (or not even that). I'm using it with a 30W OnePlus adapter. Worked with my old device.
Interestingly, I also have the older, wired OnePlus stand with 30W and with that it seems to work.

I tried the 50W charger with 30W adapter, did not even start charging (just blinks red color on the charger). No problems with 65W adapter.
I have boat floatpad 350 ,it's not charging my nothing phone 1,as it's not detecting the divice itself,I have tried with Samsung S10 it's working, but nothing phone is not detecting.pls reply
I have the 100W Xiaomi Charging Station and it worked flawlessly before updating to 1.1.3. After the update the phone has to be adjusted to the mm to get it to charge.
I got a second NP1 with the same specs now and no issues with the wirless charging after the recent update.
So ill just return my first phone...

So you means the first divices has the problem.
Yep.
1st device: 1.1.2 no problems, 1.1.3 charging issues when not placed accurately on the wirless pad
2nd device: 1.1.3 no problems
i use the BHHB Wireless charger stand T524-S, it charges up side down no problem, but right side up it stops charging after a few seconds, also sideways charging does work on these too

My BMW has a charging box, same like a charging pad. When I put my phone inside, it doesn't charge.
I always need to hold the phone 1-2 cm above the charging pad for like 5 Seconds. Then it starts charging and I can lay it down on the pad.
It's like the phone has to perform any handshake with the charger first and when it is too close it doesn't work.
Maybe it works in the same way for you.
According to Ampere, the Nothing Phone 1 stop wireless charging as soon as it reaches 38 degrees (celsius), which is incredibly low
Wireless charging has been awesome for me. Mine charges wirelessly incredibly fast and I never have an issue. I've been using this charger .
