How to Avoid Error 28 When You Flash a ROM - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, everyone. Maybe here's some people that have problem with their Mi A2/Mi 6X when flashing ROM and get Error 28 in TWRP no matter what version. Recently I got this error when flashing.

It give pain on my head since I'm sure the ROM isn't broken, even I tried to test it and redownload it but still get same Error. But, today I can flash my phone with no problem and 'Error 28'. Then let me write what's I do before I can fix it and what's the culprit that makes this problem. In this case I'll use ViperOS ZIP that I downloaded recently since latest ZIP that I downloaded is broken (it's perfect so I can tell you the problem more detail)
0. Make sure if your ZIP File of Flashable ROM isn't damaged (corrupted, tampered, etc.) with checking it use WinRAR/7Zip in-built tester (in this case, I use WinRAR in-built test since it have similar feature with other zip tester).
1.A. IF it ended with line 'No errors found during test operation', then you can go to step 2
on PC, or
on your Phones
1.B. BUT IF it ended with showing WinRAR diagnostic message on title like this
in your PC, or
in your Phone
then you need to redownload it again
1.C. Additional :
It very recommended to test checksum if you're not sure about the test above or you're not sure about your ZIP integrity. You can use any checksum tester that you can search in google, in this case I'll use "HashTab" from Implbits since it simpler. I'll check the MD5 checksum here since it faster (maybe. you can try SHA1 too if you curious)
You need to check the ZIP checksum that you downloaded in ROM's website (Sourceforge, etc.) like this
Then you can use Checksum software to match it checksum from website and file that you downloaded. If your ZIP have same checksum like this (matching checksum with last image above)
Then you can go to next step, but if it not same like this
Then you need to redownload it again from source.
2.A. If you're already have good ROM's Flashable ZIP that in your Mi A2/Mi 6X (I'll assume your phone have OS and usable) then you can flash it from TWRP and will not face 'Error 28' again (and you can ended this tutorial here since your problem was fixed). BUT ...
2.B. If you download it from your PC/Laptop/Other devices that need USB cable to transfering to your Mi A2/Mi 6X, then you aware about two things:
- USB Cable
- USB Port from PC/Laptop/Other Devices
In My case, my USB Cable is the culprit of my problem that always give me 'Error 28'. Changing with other USB Cable fix my problem (I was test the ROM again with WinRAR in-built tester and it can flashed properly), it have 99% chances to give error. 1% other is your USB Port in your PC/Laptop/Other Devices since.
3. What if you get that ROM from other devices using app like ShareIT, MiDrop, Bluetooth, etc.? Then you need to check it integrity again use checksum tool/WinRAR in-built tool to verify if it ZIP is OK like in step 1.
That's all that I know to solve Error 28 in my Mi A2/Mi 6X. Hope it will fix your problem too and sorry if I can't good thread and have bad english. If you have any question or something else that you know, please comment below. Thank you.

I spent 6 hours trying to flash a ROM, and for the first time after months of flashing, I could not get past error 28. After trying every possible solution, I could not imagine that using a different usb cable would solve the issue. Thank you very very much sir for this post.

you sir are a godsent, spent ****ing millenia on this and everytime error 1/7/28 whathaveyou its was making me insane and i just couldnt live with ****ty xiaomi joke of a buggy piece of **** "software"

Just plug the cable into the back of your PC where the motherboard is.
It helped me.

Somebody make a flushable zip
Make a flashable zip
I'll make a flashable ZIP
I'm working on a root-flashable ZIP for the Lollipop update but I need error logs when the soak test OTA is flashed. If someone can upload the error they see on their screen, it'd make my job easier. I'd have done this long ago but as I always say, I'm stuck in a boarding school and I don't have my phone.
P.S.: Try giving me CWM/TWRP error logs with a stock ROM, not CM11.

Does it work on a brazilian Moto E?
Worked fine.. no issues at all. This update will update your moto e to Android lollipop 5.0.2.
Steps :
Download the mirrored file from here
http://www.4shared.com/zip/LvKFauYVce/Blur_Version222132condor_retai.html
1) Place the download zip file 342 mb in sd card.
2) Update Motorola update service / Contextual service
3) Go to setting and check for update.
4) After confirmation.. select.. "Yes, I'm in" [chk screenshot]
5) Once the above process is completed.. u will get option to Install now / later [chk screenshot]
And than your phone will be rebooted.
And finally u will have Lollipop running on ur Moto E [chk screenshot]
Note :
I have tested on Indian model. Not sure if it will work on others too. Try it at ur own risk.
This update doesn't delete any user data
Update might take long time.. whole process may take upto 1 hour.
Just to be on safer side.. make sure u have 500 MB free space on ur internal storage
Initial boot takes time.. so be patient .

bricked CX-919 please view as a challenge

Hi all
I have a challenge I would like your help with.
I bought the Cx-919, and after a day or so I've decided to flash it with a better ROM.
Searching the internet I found this ROM, and decided to give it a chance:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...-kitkat-v1-new-firmware-for-cx-921-and-cx-919
But since I had some bad flashes of tablets and phones in the past I've decided I would need a backup of my current rom.
I've accomplished this by using this method:
http://freaktab.com/forum/developme...p-your-rk-device-rom-with-the-new-rk-2-1-tool
I did it twice, just in case I did something wrong.
By this time I had no problem with the drivers, I have installed them successfully and both the RK2.1 and the finless ROM flash tool V 1.37 had no problem finding my device while it was connected to the computer.
When I started the flash itself things started to go bad.
The finless ROM flash tool V 1.37 log had said-
Start to run
Start to test device
Test device ok
Start to download IDB ok
Download IDB OK
Start to reset the device
Reset device failed
Device not found
And after that the status bar at the bottom said no found RKAndoroid rock usb.
I have waited for about 6-10 minutes thinking this is part of the process, before trying re -find the device.
Also the LED of the device had turned off.
I've tried to reattach the device but with no success, the computer just did not recognized my cx 919 attached.
I have tried to restart my computer, reinstalling the drivers, attach the cx 919 to different ports, and even tried to boot it to recovery. Alas nothing worked. The device is dead.
After looking in different forums I saw this post about bricked cx-919 and possible solutions:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...How-to-boot-CX919-in-quot-Mask-ROM-mode-quot=
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...x919-ii-completely-bricked-tv-signal-t2859564
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSjaB522QJs
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...players-aa/11230-unbrick-cx919-circuit-method
And since I had nothing to lose I've decided to give it a try.
Alas something went wrong yet again! As I opened my cx-919 I've noticed something is different in my cx-919.
View attachment 3353734
First thing that was different- was that I had a thermal cover over the chips.
View attachment 3353735
And since I did not saw any visible NAND chip I figured it must be under the cover.
So I removed the cover, and still couldn't find the Chip I'm looking for.

Maybe it's in the back I thought, but no.
I hope one of you can maybe rise to the challenge, and help me find a way to make this device recognizable again by my computer.
So I kept on trying to fix the device, But still with no successes.
Since my device is built quit differently from other devices and uses different chips set, I figured I will try and understand what the different chips does.
Maybe by that I could find out which one is the nand chip. and try to short its 7-8 legs or 5-6 legs and get it to MASK ROM mode.
there are a few tutorials out there about how to this in the Micron chips, but i cant post any of them cause i'm a new user... so you would have to google "CX919 mask rom"
and i followed one of those.
so the small one at the bottom (RTL87) as far as i can understand is the Ethernet controller, by real take.
the one in the middle is SK hynix this is a ddr-3 chip.
that only leaves me with the rockchip RK3128 chip to be the nand chip.
now all i have to do is figuring out if there are any legs i can short together like 7-8 in the micron chip in order to get this device in MaskRom mode.
Then i need to understand how to short them- since these chip's legs are underneath the chip and not on its side.
so far no success, i will post on further development.
So I gather no new developments.........I have the same problem with one of my sticks......oh well seems to be a solid bricked stick......
I have the same device. Might have something you can try.

Hi man,
at first I want to thank you, this helped me to unbrick my phone, but ofcourse I did deleted my IMEI, SN and so on.
I know there are few ways how to change it, but none seems to work for me so far. I have the right drivers (v 1.1.13), but not any program is able to connect to my phone except to SP flash tool.
So my question is. Is there any way how to root this version of andriod?
I have already tried Kingroot, RomasteruSU, framaroot and not even MTK Engineering mode was not able to help me change IMEI.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
tried to do exactly what is there, but still no luck. I had only APDB before, so I hoped to be successfull this time with MD1_DB.
But what happened. I already had drives and SN writer (2.1504), but downloaded older version (1.1728) anyway. Got into point where phone was connected and in meta mode. The newer version of SN Writer gave me error message pretty fast and calceled meta mode. See SN writers error message img. below.
I have also tried older version, it took bit more time, then it asked me to fill my IMEI for a second time, but ended up with error message again after that. The only thing different was that phone stayed in meta mode. Put second print screen error as well.
Any suggestions?

What on earth is MiFlash Antirollback check error? Cannot find any solution

Hello
I am trying to flash the global ROM on my K20/Mi 9T, but I am getting a weird error message saying 'antirollback check error'.
I know what anti-rollback is and I can check the ARB value with fastboot, and it was nice and clean 1.
I have seen a xda thread that someone succesfully flashed a rom with anti val = 0 to a device with anti val = 1.

I don't get why the error message is showing up, and I am really frustrated with it
Please help!
Install MiFlash at C:\MiFlash and try again. I got this error once and it was due to the fact that MiFlash has problems with paths containing spaces.
Yup, flashing from C:\ is what fixes this. Horrible programming, had to mess around for a whole day back when I encountered this error.

Man I installed MiFlash in C:\ as u said. But still I'm getting this error. I also tried flashing all the files in 'images' folder manually using fastboot and then flashing the file using miflash. Still the antirollback check error persists. Any solution?
I really don't know what advice to give you. Maybe use a different version of MiFlash?

Still wont work.
HEY! put miflash and the tgz file in desktop, create a foler inside miflash named "log"; change the tgz file to a shorter one and try again! worked for me!
Edit .bat/.sh file
Well, I just fixed the same issue and solved it by editing the flash_all.bat or sh file ( windows or Linux). Just comment out initial lines without [ fastboot ] word. These lines are typically a version check.

Chinese Android Radio XYAuto 8227L YT9213A Firmware Update(help me please)

Hello all,
I am not a professional but still ambitious and would like to solve the existing problem
Since my English is not perfect, I use a translator, sorry if some written is not understandable.
Coming to my problem.
I bought 2 years ago from Aliexpress from a reputable seller an Android. 8227L YT9213A
From the beginning, the device was very slow or lost the GPS data.
original firmware was YT9213A_00009_V001_20200408

before the failed firmware update
As a result, the seller sent me a firmware "xyauto_ui1_9213A_full_8227L_demo-ota-20200517". I copied it to a USB stick (rar file not unzipped) and successfully performed an update via the radio menu "Android Update".
Over time, however, I noticed that the navigation "google maps " always crashed. also lost the gps data.
about the playstore to update the apps brought no success. the problem was in my opinion on the android system,
it was still slow and not fun at all.
I have now contacted the seller again and informed him about the problem.
he sent me a new firmware "gongban_YT9213A_ui1-hw-ota-v6.5.zip".
after some research i found the XY Auto firmware download page.
XYAUTO
file manager
file.xygala.com
there I found exactly the same firmware what the seller sent me.
I copied the firmware zip file to a USB stick and tried again to update the firmware via the radio menu "Android Update".
Unfortunately, an error occurred, I have repeated the process several times. tried different USB sticks but it always came to the same error.
I think that this firmware what the seller is not compatible with my device at all.
I have on the http://file.xygala.com site then a previous firmware and that is
"xyauto_ui1_9213A_full_8227L_demo-ota-20200523.zip" downloaded and copied the USB stick and again through the device menu" Android update" performed.
This time I noticed that it did not come to an update abort. it came the message 1 of 53 apps are updated, but at "23 of 53" it froze and the system was rebooted, then the installation continued "1 of 9 apps" are updated. Finally the message came, "Update complete".
then the system was rebooted but the startup screen froze, the touch did not work. the image distorted and after a few seconds the system was rebooted again. this phenomenon repeated itself again and again. so to say "boot loop effect"?
then i started to research on youtube saw some videos how the firmware was updated with flashtool. i wanted to copy it. I downloaded the "Scatter-loading file" from the firmware folder the seller sent me "gongban_YT9213A_ui1-hw-ota-v6.5.zip" ( but I downloaded the same firmware for PC update from the http://file.xygala.com site
downloaded) and loaded and thus tried to flash. the " preloader " in the first row was not activated. the hook was missing. manually I could not click either.
Then I tried to load the "scatter-loading file" from the previous firmware "xyauto_ui1_9213A_full_8227L_demo-ota-20200523" and flashed " Format All+ Download" it started to load at the bottom of the bar but then came an error message.
So now I think I have made things worse.
Now the screen stays completely black. Android loading process I do not see. I see short flickering but it remains black
The seller only answers when he feels like it and doesn't really help me.
It would be a shame to throw it away. I don't think it's a hardware problem.
Can anyone really help me from afar and give me a tip.
I would follow any instructions and try to revive the device.
thanks in advance and hope someone will help me.
Do you have a 'Preloader' file?
Dont do formatting without 'preloader' file.
You can only do a downloading without this file. I dont know why flashtool even let you do this step without all files included....
Im using this version: sp-flash-tool-v5-2112
Then get the 'preloader file and use with package 'xyauto_ui1_9213A_full_8227L_demo-ota-20200523' you've got. Do format wit all files included/selected.
hello guys i have this head unit and i really want to change the firmware .interface ugly and aux deosnt work no sound equilizer ....
