HI Members & Developers,
Few owner of Redmi Note 7 are facing echo calling issue while calling. Even after device got changed issue is still same. Issue will not appears if we keep speaker on while calling and if you connect headphone while calling.
steps i have done:
1. Changed Sim card
2. changed service provider
3. Formatted device
4 upgraded to latest firmware as well as degraded firmware
5. device got replaced 2 times
Even provided log to MI technical Team with screen recording , with debugging log, IMEI number recording and call recording sample with echo issue. After 10 day MI tech team told that there is no issue found in device.
This is confirm that issue is not related to network because if you put on speaker or connect headphone issue get resolved.
IF any developer or any member resolved this issue or have solution for this issue please share.
Same here.
Bought that beauty to my wife, but the echo problem is driving me crazy!
Waiting for unlock bootloader and will tell, if custom ROM/kernel will solve the problem.
Finally managed to unlock bootloader and installed PE ROM. Problem still presist, BUT...
I do not know, how is it possible- removed the included silicone case and BOOM!!! Crispy clear calls... Zero echo! Nada!

It's just a theory, but... the phone have two microphone, the second, in top it's for noise cancelling. These two microphones if not syncornized well, the echo appear. If without cover the sound it's clear, no echo, check if the silicone case have hole where the second mic.

I saw posts about the second noise canceling mic. Anyways, I thought it had to be the design of the case that had to carry sound from the earpiece to mic or mic to 2nd mic or whatever.
Note the original openings on the side of the case.
Therefore I carved out section in the case where you find the main microphone. (used a red hot nail to do that)
Echo is now gone.

First 1,gps needs around 10 mins in clear sky to lock my position , with gps fix(from the market) it takes 5-20 seconds.
Second and most important, all the people that i talk with cant hear my voice clear,i hear them clear tho, there is a really low pitch sound in the background when noone talking even on the road with full bars,i tryed 2g and 3g networks, i even tryed calling my phone from someone else phone and i couldnt hear his voice clear, when i used the headphones my callers heard my voice crystal clear.
I am thinking of taking my phone for replacement in the next 3 houers so i really apriceate any fast feedback especially for the second problem.
GPS fix is usually very quick on my X5 with data connection on, usually under 30 sec.
I've had one or two instances where a geocaching app wouldn't get a fix in 5 or 10 min. A reboot solved that every time.
As for the sound problem: sounds like your microphone is defect. No such problem on my phone...
1. You need to enable gps xtra for faster lock, in the same menu where you enable gps.
2. Some say that B160 rom creatly improves call quality, id try that from. Look from the dev section.
so gps is normal but microphone defective?
anyway,i got it back at the shop for a replacement i ll have a new in 4-5 days ,but im a bit woried if it will be defective again as there are some known problems like gps, wifi, light bleeding, burned pixels, flash player random reboots and i think i ve got 60-70% chance of geting a working one
I have a similar problem...
When people call me they tell me that my voice is very low. This changes when i hold the phone in front of my face, then it becomes better. But it is only good when I switch to the loudspeaker mode. Then you hear my voice clearly. Is it possible that this phone has a certain voice activation level and that this is set too critical?
And if it is so, can I set this threshold value anywhere?
edit: And can I edit the volume of the microphone itself too?
I find that if I have the phone tucked between my ear and shoulder (like you do when you are using both hands for something but still want to talk on the phone), noone can hear me at all.
But if using it "normally" (ie: by holding it to my ear with my hand) it works fine.
Does this device have a noise cancelling mic that is affecting things when the entire back panel is covered or something?
i have the same mic problem... i sent it for replacement...

True about GPS, just need to enable the option sanpsa said.
Mic, never had a problem so far.. touch wood.
Notwithstanding the fact that flipmodegr's microphone was obviously faulty, something to consider when others say they're having difficulty hearing you is the noise-cancellation microphone.
I suspect that those who're having problems might be covering or scraping the second microphone hole, or have a cover of some sort over it.
I haven't encountered the problem at all, but I'd be interested in knowing if those of you who have (outbound) audio problems are using any sort of cover on the 'phone while you're actually using it.

I'm pretty sure it's not a noise cancelling mic. It's just a directional mic for use when recording video.

I unfortunately don't have the option for xtra GPS - I only see Use GPS Satellites, and beneath that is GPS Source (which gives me only one option - Use internal GPS)
I am on Gingerbread - CyanogenMod 7.2.0.
Can you or someone else suggest a way to get around this problem? I am trying geocaching and the lack of GPS fix is really frustrating!
for me the GPS fast fix was only solved with replacing the gps.conf file, with this one

Excuse my ignorance but where do I need to change this? Or can you direct me to the right thread with the instructions?
I've villain Rom 3.0 flashed on m s2.
I've bad echo on voice calls my friends tell me whenever they ring.... As in they can hear there own echo. everything is ok my end.
I installed villaintweaks 1.3.1 as I was told there was a fix fire this. I installed the noise cancellation fix.... But still it remained. Anyone any suggestions?
How can I completely remove villaintweaks and all its data btw? I had superuser access problems with villaintweaks initially before I got access allowed.
Really would like to get this echo. I don't like having to keep pressing menu-noise reduction off during every call.
Also notice that if I remove my protective case the echo disappears completely.
Any help would be great!

Yeah I already said I know the case can cause the problem... But I don't want to remove the case.
Any way of disabling the noise reduction without having to do so during every call?

Install VRTweaks and disable noise reduction, that solved it for me.
Unfortunately, in CM7 (which I'm trying right now) such a fix does not exist yet AFAIK.

I'm discussing the issue with Samsung here in Belgium - trying to convince them this is a (rare) hardware issue. Did the test: same cases produce an echo with my phone, and not with other SGS2s.
If you can, restore to stock state, and go to a service point.

Yes it is a hardware issue, not so rare. NR should work fine with case too. There was slight echo on the other end even without case, horrible with.
Mine _much_ better after applying two layers of thin white soft medical tape over the ear speaker. The back of the case needs to be unscrewed and unlatched with a guitar pick. Not so difficult once you google up the service manual. Am interested in a proper solution without tape. That service manual is not very specific about speaker placement.

Try disabling noise reduction in call settings... echoing has been a problem since the s2 sometimes disabling noise reduction helps or turn down volume on your phone.

I have made a lot of test :
Disable noise cancellation (Still echoing)
Change SIM card (Still echoing)
Reset the phone (Same problem)
Also when I plug a pair of headphone with a mic, Ive got no problem but when I remove it, the echoing are coming back
Did I have to try something else or its a hardware problem?

i agree, some of original covers also cause issues. I have both original samsung s-view flip cover (bought @ INR 22XX/- ) and i had same issues and my friend have problem with original backcover comes with phone. we showed the problem in service centre and changed the back cover for my friend within warranty. now its ok for my friend.
for me, i stopped using that s-view cover and used the original one comes with phone and now ok for me.

Hi,
I have exactly the same echo problem. Did you solve the problem?
I just started experiencing the same thing after flashing 4.4. Never had this problem and now the problem doesn't even get fixed when I went back to 4.3 or 4.2.2. No idea how to fix it, I have full wiped each time and tested on the clean rom so it can' t have anything to do with my apps. I also removed the back cover and case to test that theory but nothing helped. I hear a static and my own voice echoing. I don't think the other person hears the echo though. Does anyone have a solution?
I have also tried flashing different modems but that didn't solve the issue.
Problem solved!!!
I found the problem. i was experiencing the same problem, the other caller was hearing an echoe. First i thought it was the s-view cover but no. if the microphone is in any way covered it makes an echoe so do not cover it, and for the answer to your questions just clean the microphone hole using a needle. Now it works perfectly. Have fun Guys!!!

I have the echo effect of my voice when someone calls me. I use a bluetooth earpiece so the phone mic is not the problem. I've thied three different bluetooth headsets and all of them have the echo effect for my voice (the other side doesn't hear it).
I did put on a Samsung Qi charging cover but I can't remember if the echo effect started before or after I put on the Samsung Qi enabled cover. first i want to test the unchecking the noise reduction box to see if that works, if not then I'll replace the back cover to see if that is the issue.
I'm skeptical about the back cover being the problem, however, because it only happens when someone calls me. For example, my daughter called me and I could hear my voice in the echo. I asked her to hang up and try again. Again I could hear the echo. So I had her hang up and I called her. No more echo. Neither have I heard the echo on any other calls I make, but it is on all the calls I receive.

There is somewhere among the call settings something about noise reduction - try to change that one and please let us know if there was any change (for better or worse).
I#m having the same problem with people complaining to me that they always have an echo. I tried deactivating the noise reduction but it didn't help...
It's def. not carrier reception in my case. Because during the same call the problem disappears when I switch to speaker. As soon as I switch back the person I'm speaking to gets an echo. So it has something to do with the top speaker and microphone I guess but I have no idea how to fix it. Tried several ROMs now as well, always the same problem. So annoying...

thanks in advance.
I think the problem is related to my case. I use an UAG Navigator case. After removing it I made some calls and the people on the other end didn't have an echo. What's strange though: I put it back on, made another call and there was no echo either. I have 1 day left to return the case but it's so awesome and I want to keep it and also the case tself is not the problem - it only seems to make it worse. The problem is - at least for me - what I described before: the noise cancelling microphone seems to be having problems and causing an echo when talking to someone using the standard speaker. As soon as I switch to loud speaker the problem disappears.
I had the same issue using a spigen neo hybrid case, with case, echo, no case, no echo
Echo, in the most cases, is the problem of the telecoms service provider, not the phone itself.
If this problem happens in rare cases, just disconnect the call and make a new one.
If this still persist in many times, you have to contact the telecoms service provider.
Im having the same issue, only i don't use a cover. I just use the phone as it is.
When is leave the battery cover away, the echo on the other side is also gone. I also noticed that when i cover the top microphone (whit a tape, just for test) and put the battery cover back on, the echo on the other side is also gone.
Is looks like de sound from the ear speaker is picked up by the top mic wich sends it to the caller on the other side!?
Is there any way to disable the top speaker during calls??
I have the same problem with and without the case
i've flashed different roms but no success
would someone help me?

Boyz, the issue with hearing echo etc, after installing ROM - enables both speakers to be on and because the hardware is quit  fancy, - the echos and terrible call quality all contributed by them 2 cofarking one another.
the fix is to: "somehow" find out original firmwares settings of calling app and make sure they dont change during custom ROM installation.
guessing this is the downfall of using other peoples work with high expectations without much regard.. heh
would be great to stop hearing from whomever is on the line that its terrible..
Anyway, I will flick Dr.Ketan an email about it and if Im correct then I shall return to update and share.

Hello All
I bought myself an Asus Zenfone 2 Laser Ze550KL a couple of weeks back.
An overall good phone. But I am facing an irritating issue.
The phone's microphone does not work from some point onwards. Once this happens, when attending(or making) a call, the other person wont be able to hear me.
I am not sure whether its a hardware issue or a software issue. Because once I restart the phone everything is perfect once again. After maybe a couple of calls, the problem resurfaces.
I read in multiple forums of this issue (even in Zentalk) , but nobody has a clean solution. Some of the solutions were -to disable Ok Google Detection, to enable call recording, to switch to loudspeaker, to reboot the phone and so on.
Enabling loud speaker works for me. When I realize the other person cannot hear me, I switch to loud speaker and then he is able to hear me.
Did anybody come across this issue? Is it a software issue? Any help/ideas/suggestions would be nice.
I am hoping its a software bug which will be hopefully fixed in the next system update or so.
Thanks
Hmm that's an odd one I can tell you that I have call recording enabled on a ze551kl and haven't had this issue, but I'm not sure if its specific to the 550 or not. I haven't actually recorded any of my calls, it just pops up and asks me if I want to every time and I tap cancel.

Its not about recording calls.. Its about the recipient not hearing me. The microphone is what is bothering me. I doubt the issue is with the noise cancellation of microphones. Perhaps cancelling more than noise.
When I reboot the phone, everything starts working normally. After a few calls the problem returns, the recipient not hearing me!.
The temporary fix for me is switching to loud speaker. I dont know why, but the mic starts working when in loud speaker. The moment i switch it back to handson, the recipient is again not able to hear me.
Read a few forums in zentalk reporting the same issue
www(dot)asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=14486
I am seriously hoping it is a software bug which would be fixed in the next update or so.
I tried the hardware test which behaves differently when the problem occurs and when it is problem free.
The hardware test is perfect if i test the mic just after reboot and when everything is normal.
But once i find out that the recipient is unable to hear me (after maybe a couple of calls/days after the reboot) , i did the hardware test again and certainly was different. A buzz at all times with my voice being completely muffled. Something to do with the noise cancellation mic i believe.
I have tried disabling OK Google Detection.
I have tried enabling call recording.
I have tried reseting factory settings , clear wipe partitions etc.
I have tried enabling dialer pad tones (Dont know why this was marked as a solution in some forums)
But all of the above was not a solution for me. Switching to loudspeaker works. And rebooting the phone (which is irritating during important calls) also works.
Any help would be nice.

To OP,
This is for most of the guys. It's a software issue, dont worry, Just update to latest update. Which happened to me the same, and solved when i updated some random OTA update fix by asus. So the current version on my phone now is LRX22G.WW_user_1.15.40.639_20151029044030520_201505210103

Hi I too have this same issue. I believe it is a faulty model from Asus! I had serviced my mobile last month and the Subboard assembly has been completely changed by those people but still I face the same issue. . Hope I will throw away this bulsh**t soon. Since you apply this solution the error has not returned to flicks: I cannot post the youtube link, but search the title: Solved: Asus Zenphone 2e mic problem by Jack Scorpion.
I have the same device with the same problem! It was neglible before, and it happened very rarely. But recently it had become worse and that thing happened to all the calls. Switching to loudspeaker works (loudspeaker mode disables the bottom mic and switches to top mic). I reset the device to factory settings (that thing wiped the internal memory too!) and since then, i haven't updated the 'ASUS Calling Screen' from the play store and everything works fine atleast till now.

I am also facing same problem. Suddenly the mic of my asus fails to work.
Solution
There is solution. Please post it on another forums after you will check it.
Just hold your phone in your hand in position, which will make sound to reflect directly into your voice microphone. This way you will make a difference in signal between voice and noise cancellation microphone. That's how voice cancellation technology works. I have got this result after one week of search for any effective solution. And did not find any useful info. So I have find a solution after some experiments.
Please post it to another forums if it will solve your problem.
