Hi,
the problem first appeared after this ****ing oreo update, i hate lenovo/motorola for this idea. Sound call is not loud enough and changes. I am 100% sure its something with the ROM update/Software issue, not hardware.
100%.
So i tried my first custom ROM, i opened bootloader etc. pp. and it works, alltough device is unknown while booting (n/a), but ok- lineage and other roms works with some failure, e.g. google play compatibility of some apps ...
now i have this stupid oreo flash again, this adjusted one i think, i dont know. You said, i had to install it. I am not familiar with the correct name, but it seems correct.
no matter what i do, i have to INSTALL LESSER AUDIO , you know this app. you can change audio output from speaker to headset. and i allways have to switch the standard (Wrong) configuration , otherwise i can not phone.
system sounds works, but media and call is not working. After switching to speaker, sound is working, but it is still not LOUD enough. You get it?
Why is it, what is you thought and idea to it?
There must be a solution for it, and i guess you cannot solve it by flashing customs, but by adjusting this ****ing oreo in the first place or what so ever.
So the main problem is sound is soo quiet <---- THAT IS SO ****ING ... you need to change, i dont need an elegant solution. Just fix it, no matter what.
Please help .
Thanks A lot. David

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,
H.
Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
Had this phone for a few months and let me say I love it, but it gives me a major headache with all the hassle it gives me as far as things that come after rooting and things like Viper4Android. Never had so many problems in the past with things like this.
I can't for the life of me get this to work and was hoping that someone here on the forums can help me. Seeing as I'm in the military right now my schedule is kinda hectic.
So I installed busybox, and I am rooted. At the time I rooted there was just systemless root which is a pain in my ass.
When I open the apk it asks if I wish to install the drivers, and I click yes and it hangs for a second or two then quickly says it's installed when I know it's not. Im almost positive its suppose to ask which driver I want to install but it doesn't? What am I doing wrong here or how can I fix it? Also trying to use the app provided from XDA to change my selinux or w.e doesnt work either. Says it cannot get access to root from my super user manager which I find strange because everything else works.
Thanks for any help you guys can assist with!
This thread should give you all the answers you need for installing V4A.

ViPER install is a bit janky on the MXP for some reason, the only method in which I have gotten it to properly install is this one, written specifically for the MXP rather than the one above:

Be aware though that the libfiles .zip seems to be the culprit of some random, temporary bootloops that can be solved by simply hard rebooting again. I've tried to find a fix for this but sometimes it happens less often than others, and seems to be only an occasional occurrence.
Been testing Orion rom and it's very smooth and stable and... comes with viper.
Is there any alternative I can use? I don't want to go through some annoying bootloops and prefer to stay on my stock ROM. I'm mainly wanting this so i can be able to use an equalizer over Bluetooth with my Bluetooth earbuds. Anybody know any good alternatives? Thanks for the quick replies. You guys are awesome
That's funny the only boot loops I've had is on stock.
Do you know of any alternatives or a way I can get my stock equalizer to work over bluetooth?
even though no one seems to suffer from that problem, i must ask again-
the problem is a low volume while talking on the phone using the speaker. THEN AND ONLY THEN.
it's working perfect while playing videos, games or music. there are no complaints from the other side of the conversation. no problem while talking with headphones or w/o other devices. nothing. only on my end.
it's probably not a matter of hardware because a lab switched my speaker with another one's and mine worked perfectly on his and his didn't on mine. (same problem that is)
ALSO, i've already updated twice 7.0.1-->7.1.0-->7.1.1 and no changes.
I've already factory reseted, wiped all, cleared cache and data, and did everything i could think of, but burning the damn thing.
the ONLY conclusion i got to (me and the lab) is that there's a code or other software glitch that limits the volume.
PLEASE THINK OR TRY TO FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT
I got a similar problem like you.
The RECEVIER doesn't work while talking on the phone.
But the speaker works perfect.
Weirdly the RECEIVER works perfect when I use the other APPs like Wechat to listen some voice messages.
PLEASE THINK OR TRY TO FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT

Did you try and run the phone in safe mode to rule out a third party app causing the problem? If that makes no difference you could either do a clean install of the latest Android image or if the phone is under warranty try and contact Google or Huawei for support.
didn't try safe mode. will try now. already contacted huawei, no response yet

unfortunately, safe mode didn't help, so it's probably not an app that blocks it.
is there a good confirmed link to a guide of a clean install?
my 6p is not rooted, if it matters
This problem remains forever, doesn't matter what custom rom you're using, it'll be still there.... I've tried a lot of thing to fix it, some doesn't work like this or that thread, however, this worked for me (not completely, I'll explain why...)
Well, the last one didn't work for me because after every new update/build, the fix is cleaned and you need to flash it again every new build/update. How to deal with it?
I need go give my phone to one of my parents and they don't know how to flash. I was happy because, at least, LineageOS updates itself automatically (except by the fix which need to be done manually). Unfortunately I don't know any other custom rom that has OTA updates working (and of course, updates itself automatically) and the audio is working normally.
I don't use the stock due to sluggishness, errors, being outdated since 2017. So, I need to flash a proper rom but it seems to be hardcore issue.
I need some help.
Get a pin and shove it in the mic hole
Get all the rubbish out & you might have to pierce the filter that's on the other side too like I did
After doing that I had no mic issues
So, a while ago, I installed Viper4Android because I thought I would try my hand at making my earphones sound better. I eventually came to the conclusion that I didn't need it, and that my pair sounded just as good before installing it. After rebooting my device post-uninstall, I found that my whole music library sounded very different. String instruments sound far away and washed-out (almost like an echo), and that also applies to most background-vocals, and, for some songs, the chorus, too. After reinstalling it to see if it would go back to normal, which it didn't, I uninstalled it again. I even installed Sauron MKIII to see if it would make it sound better, and it only slightly helped. That might just be placebo, though, because I'm pretty desperate to fix it. I appreciate any suggestions or known fixes. Thank you.
Here's any information that I think may end up being important:
This affects my earbuds only. Speakers are fine.
This happened before I installed Sauron MKIII, so, that's definitely not the root of the issue.
I'm running Android 7 on my S4.
The version of Viper I had installed was the 2.5 Nougat fix.
Again, I appreciate any suggestions/solutions. I'm hoping that I don't need to factory-reset my phone, because it's going to be a pain to reinstall everything again. Thanks.
