Hi All,
Just received my one plus 6t.
Do you guhys have any tips / useful info / must-have on the phone recommendations?
In addition,
Should I root it?
And If I root it using Magisk - Will I still get OTA updates?
And also - does OTA Update requires full wipe? or can I safely update and all my data / installed apps and setting will remain the same?
Thanks

Yes you will get OTA after you root your phone ....although instead of incremental update, you will get full rom update..
OTA doesnot require full wipe even if you are rooted but it is recommended to uninstall all magisk modules and magisk before updating

Finally got my G2...yay!!!
I'm a newbie and so please show mercy! . I have spent hours going through stuff about rooting, ROM, Mods etc (head is slightly spinning! )
1. I want to wait for a few days to make sure everything works ok before rooting. How can I avoid OTA updates during that time? From what I read it seems there could be forced OTA updates if I keep skipping them. Is that true?
2. If I just root and not have any custom recovery or ROM then I can go ahead with OTA updates, correct? I want to be able to install Kitkat when that is available.

Hello Friends,
does an OTA (here Vers. 34.2.A.0.266) working?
Or is Root & Kernel getting lost?
Have someone tried to root .266?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

the latest version pushed almost everywhere in the world is 34.2.A.0.311? is it a old OTA you have saved on your phone?
?to unroot. sorry, have you ever opened the supersu app? you probably need to relock your bootloader also. (search)
https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Q: Are there any known issues when unlocking the boot loader?
A: Yes. When you select a device, any known issues for that device will be displayed. In addition, the following generic issues have been reported:
Some users have experienced problems when they are accepting over the air upgrades. Therefore we do not recommend users to accept over the air upgrades, after having unlocked the boot loader. For additional information, check out the XDA Forums for hints and tips from the community

instead of OTA use flashtool (search) to upgrade (to 34.2.A.0.311). exclude kernel and if root was done systemless (very likely) you will not loose root, you should upgrade the kernel to a current one though. so if your phone does not boot flash a new kernel and supersu again. if you use genesis kernel you also need to flash it and supersu again.
Nexus 6P - Oreo 991.4MB - notification - should i update?
Dear experts,
I would like to update Android Oreo which is appearing in my notification as Oreo 991.4MB. However I would not like to loose root after that.
What is the ideal way. Should i unroot do factory reset and then update oreo. Because How will i restore apps and data if phone is not rooted after update to Oreo?
Have been going through many threads but very confused.
Pls could somebody confirm that after update to Oreo Nexus6p can be rooted safely and that there are no major issues faced thereafter at least known?
Kindly reply.

Choose yourself. You can backup your apps with titanium backup app if you're are rooted. (download the app via playstore)
Oreo works fine, you can root with latest supersu or Magisk.
Good luck
Hi guys,
Has anyone already tried this https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/how-to-remove-oem-bloatware-s7-s7edge-t3739217 ? It is working on my bootloader locked and unrooted ze552kl, but removed app still on the list but with "not installed for this user" notification. I wonder if this would cause bootloop due to firmware update. I'm on 85 and it's unlikely there will be another android N but I believe android O update will be coming soon. Any thoughts?

I haven't tried this, but since none of your system partitions have been modified I would not expect you to encounter any issues with a firmware upgrade.
Hi guys, Oreo is official now ! Removed apps no longer enlisted, so you have to carefully take note of what have been removed in case you want to restore prior updating. Though I'm agree bootloop is quite unlikely using the method.
Greetings devs and members:
I have recently begun using a Moto G5 Plus (XT1687 - N. American SKU) that was never updated (due to being in a drawer someplace).
I know that many things have been unlocked and improved by the devs for this particular handset. My question is simply this:
How should I update it? Should I update it?
Should I go OTA (retus) (currently blocking), or should I bypass everything and go directly to Oreo (using the update file, after a factory reset and such)?
Or, hell should I stick with Nougat right now? It seems that lots of folks are having issues, and I just wanted a more informed opinion.
Thank you.

To stay with Nougat is not a bad choice, it's a well working system.
If you want to get to Oreo just apply all the OTA updates until you're there. No need to do anything else if your device isn't rooted or the system has been tampered in any other way.
Both firmwares seem to work well.
If the phone is not rooted, then OTA updates are the easiest. Make sure the phone is fully charged or plug it in first. Go to about phone, go to check system updates, accept OTAs until it says up to date, which is likely be Oreo. If it stops at -18 the it may take a few days before the phone alters you to Oreo update.
