S8 pie overheating !!! (light use) - - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Android system always on top after build.no dsda (baseband dsd6) latest version 9.0 g950f . Tried factory reset 2 times and installing apps 1 by 1 .. But phone heats up in light usage and battery drain faster than usual. Need help.. Also tried recalibrration.... Plz kindly plz give a fix. Any clue would be appreciated..thanx

Is your phone rooted? That might be the problem. I experience overheating too, but only if my phone is rooted. If I remove root completely, SOT becomes significantly better (6 hrs vs 3 hrs) and phone stays cool.

Is Downgrade Possible on N910C?

Hello,
So I've been wanting to downgrade back to android 4.4.4 mainly for better battery performance, because ever since it went 5.0.1 and up the battery went downhill fast. However, I've been reading that the N910C got a locked bootloader after android 5.1.1, is there anyway to downgrade the bootloader so I could downgrade to android 4.4.4?
Thank you in advance!

My battery is 2 months old, nothing has changed since I replaced my 2 year old original battery with the new one, except the phone doesn't turn off randomly at 30% now.

You got powersaving mode, ultra powersaving mode,USE THEM dude while your device in pocket or on idle.
I got 5+ hours screen on time .
Disable touch vibration
Disable keypad light.
Reduce brightness manually.
Turnoff gps, wifi, mobile data, when you are not using phone.
Use dark black wallpaper.
Remove widgets from homescreen.
Use greenify to hibernate apps.
Uninstall/disable apps you dont use.
Your battery is perfect just you have to be smart how to save.

Make sure the new battery is purchased direct from Samsung or a reputable carrier, or get a Powerbear or Anker. Lots of fakes/cheap rubbish about.
I'm on Marshmallow and get 5-6 hours screen on time with WiFi and Bluetooth on all day. 6 month old battery from Samsung UK.

Brand new OEM battery and believe me when I say I tried tu use the damn phone in a most efficient way possible, even airplane mode when not in use, same crap, terrible battery life. When I bought it couple months after release, with 4.4.4 the battery was just amazing, like 10-12 hours of screen on time, now I barely get 2 hours with EVERYTHING on power saving mode and MAX EFFICIENCY use battery wise...

I donno about n910c but i have n910t and i tried every single rom kk lollipop mm maximum screen on time i get 5 hours on kitkat and mm 4.5 hours and the worse is lollipop 3 hours.
I went all the way from 4.4.4 to 6.0.1 update by update as they were rolled out, every single update it got worse and worse, 5.0.1 was just obnoxiously terrible, then 5.1.1 kinda bit better compared to 5.0.1 but still crap, 6.0.1 brought in Doze, but that didn't seem to affect anything too much, so pretty much from 5.0.1 forward, battery is just stupidly terrible, I charge the phone 3 times a day on average...

12 SOTH For S7 Edge - Latest security patch

Since the last update my battery became literally two times bigger.
As you can see in the attachements, I have exactly 12 hours of SOT.
I have been all day on WhatsApp,in an Android group and 30 minutes added of calling ( not hd ).
What's your sot on the newest update ?
What settings? Official ROM? Kernel? What app Disable? Root?
June security patch?
Yes just stock ROM stock everything. I have disabled every app that I don't use .
do u use fb, messenger, email? and which rom i.e csc do u have?

Romanian - ROM CSC latest patch
This is possible if you continuously keep the screen on without doing anything on it. It's what you did too.
Or if it's the other way, seriously, 12 hrs continuously you stared on the screen? (12hr sot in a total of 12.5hours)
well i am getting 3.5-4.5 hr SOT... depends on the wifi vs 4g usage... but usually average 4hrs SOT...

Which applications? Can show a screen, all disabled? Do you use it wathsapp? Is sync enabled?
Here is the xml for all of the things I have disabled.
I have been constantly on Whatsapp.
The sync is turned on 5 minutes every three hours ( via Tasker ).
Location is on with minimal accuracy.

THIS ! exactly this. this is not a real life scenario and im guessing the OP also enabled battery saving mode which means underclocking.
so, stock with disabled apps and only 1 app running and using data and screen continuously on with battery saving on and this is the result, yes it is possible.
I'm more impressed you've managed to stay on your phone for 12 hours out of 12h30min of it actually being turned on...
But to me 12 hours and my phones dead does not seem like a win for me at all.
A stat with 24h on time and around 7-8 sot would be much more impressive.
Anyway the battery is the same as it always has been it's just how you use the phone. (Not security patch)
Speaking of, I haven't received the June OTA yet. Any links to that? I'm on the LUX CSC.

Yes its a nice stat you could probably gain an extra hour+ of SoT from applying a AMOLED friendly black theme/using blacked out apps(facebook, twitter etc) too Only problem is you loose some of the S8 ports beauty...
I'm getting around the same using Ambasadii's S8+ port 5-6 hour SoT but if i theme it black amoled i still have about %30 battery left by the time i go to sleep and put the phone on charge.
Usage is casual ... Xda/whatsapp/facebook/twitter/browser/downloading/PokemonGo

Yeah bro
I am unable to find a theme which turns everything black but also preserve S8+ beauty
Terpischora messes up the Notification panel. I cant read anything from Gmail/Whatsapp and also notifications from other apps.
Do you know any good Themes?
Is Ambasadii S8+ Port good? Heating? Bugs? Stable?
I have downloaded Ambasadii Rom havent flashed it lol.
Renovate s8+ port ROM is stable so didnt flash ambasadii yet.
Also I think There wont be anything new in Custom ROMs except Security patches from now on. Development has reached its peak for S7E. Devs migrated to S8+

have you tried https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/theme-samsung-galaxy-s8-t3582967
or https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/theme-va-aura-dark-v1-16-nov-t3501379
They might help with the notifications etc but i dunno about preserving the s8 beauty haha impossible if you go full battery save mode
There the ones i was using.. i aggree the s8ports are kinda at a standstill now only standard bugs like camera faces etc dont get any overheating or battery drain with it seems stable as any other... one of the reason why i swapped it to my primary instead of stock.

Idle Battery Drain

Hi All,
From Past 2 weeks... am Facing Phone Idle Battery Drain...
I have tried everything.... - Factory Resetting, etc....
The problem even persist in Safe Mode also...
Is it a Hardware issue ? or A Clean system Reflash might help ?
PS: My phone is not rooted.
For me after I'm uninstalling the snaptube, all it's turns normal... Maybe you use some app has draining your battery ?(software)

I also thought the same...But I didn't install any new apps other than Pixel Launcher.... And Now...I Uninstalled it.... Still facing the same problem.
I guess it is just the horrible LG software. I also experienced extreme battery drain in standby and could not figure out why.
I decided to flash the Resurrection Remix ROM onto my LG and look at that... Amazing battery life with the same usage and same apps installed.
My battery now drops 2% over night. With stock it was 9-10%.
I know it might not be the answer you are looking for. All I am saying is: maybe the Oreo update will help for Stock solutions.
There are reports out there that show amazing battery life with stock but they often disable a lot of services which in my eyes is not the purpose of a phone. Other than that... Try your luck with Greenify or something like that (could be hard to reach real results here without root though).

Hmm.... But I hav paid 760$ to buy this phone.... Why Should I settle for less ? If its a budget phone...then Ok...but this is a Flagship Device.... I am going to take this to Service Center. These Battey Problems are irritating me.
As far as I remember, that idle battery drain is known issue in Android 7.0 and our precious G6's have 7.0 and probably will never get 7.1 which has this problem fixed, LG rarely releases incremental updates, mostly only releases new devices with newer software (V30 has 7.1, Q6 also has 7.1 and their battery life is great).
7.0 bug causes "Phone Idle" thingy popping up in battery stats almost always on top, sucking up to 1000+mAh of battery in my case so I have to charge the phone almost every single day which is a little bit frustrating considering phone's battery and that it lies unused for around 8 hours every day as I have to leave my phone in locker room when I'm at work. This is the only thing that I hate in this phone.
We have to wait for Oreo... which also makes me a little bit nervous because 8.0 also has many bugs... Yes, 8.1 is right behind the corner but that strange LG update policy will probably halt our phones on 8.0...

Being able to have numerous apps for different purposes downloaded on your phone is what makes our smartphones so good. However, there may be a few that are resulting in rapid Android OS battery drain., without you even knowing about it.
Try These
Stay in Power Saving Mode
Reduce Display light
Try using the App Greenify, helps you identify which apps are causing battery drain, and put these into hibernation when you are not using them, to stop them from lagging your device and leeching the battery

Oreo + stability update

Hi,
I have been using this phone for a year now. I really feel we got more preformance after oreo. The phone is pretty smooth after all the hassle. I do think we lost a bit screen on time with the os update. I feel that is many times the price of getting more speed. Anyway i tried for a while my G4 rooted + optimized. My conclusion is that optimized + sabs and non rooted s7 edge is really fast phone. I see no lag. I feel this phone has a year left in it and thats actually impressive knowing its 2,5 years old.
I tried Oreo without factory reset. My experience was that some of the apps did not function well. So i did the factory reset and all works now. I think its only smart move after os update. Now i will just clear system cache after minor fixes.
The last as good deal was lg g2 to me. Love your phone still its in the competition with never phones. After year i bet we see improvements that will make many of us consider changing to a next generation of phones.
Btw. Did anyone else get the stability update after oreo? What do you guys think of it? My feel is that now almost 100% is working and smooth as a butter.

I have moved back to nougat and stayed there for now, i did not mind the cell drain as it still lasted me all day, however i had random reboots as soon as i moved to official Oreo or even custom rom with 8.0 base, did not matter what i did the reboots would get worse over time. I moved back to nougat and not one reboot experienced, Oreo for me is good when it worked and would love to use it but drove me crackers when rebooting. SM-G935F

This is actually intresting. My phone did random screen freeze and couple of reboots in nougat, but on Oreo that is not happening to me.
But i do definetly have the cell drain still after the last update. I kind of woke up by the fact that i have lost about 1h screen on time. Yes i am a heavy user so thats the first que for something is eating the battery.
What kind of cycle your battery lasts average and how is your SOT on nougat? My is average 27hours on time hours and sot 5-6 hours

I am unable to advise you on SOT as i don't monitor this, i am running a custom rom with nougat base (Sac23 S8 port) i have a battery life of between 29 and 32 hours, never really goes past 40% remaining at the end of the day.

About battery SM-N910U

Hi, i have SM-N910U device and the original new battery. But, why my battery draining so fast? Currently i using MM 6.0.1 official. Not rooted device. I’ve done lot of things to keep battery stable. But it seems not working. The battery drained so fast. This is malfunctioned of seri U or what? Thanks for the answer
What do you mean by "original new battery"? Do you mean the original battery that came with the phone? Or you have recently purchased an "original new battery"?
If you have recently purchased a battery it is almost guaranteed not to be an original Samsung battery as they do not make them any more - it is probably fake. Buy a RavPower battery and see how it goes. Same if you're still using the battery that originally came with the phone - get a RavPower. You might also want to try a factory reset and set your phone up clean again - this made a big difference to mine about a year ago when my battery was draining fast.

Three possible curlpits: Your apps, the battery, or the firmware
Battery—fake battery will die fast, according to what others say
Apps—some apps are battery hungry, so find a way to hibernate those with Greenify or Hibernation Manager
Software—Android 6 is the last and worst update for performance and battery life. While it's on KitKat (4.4), its battery life was awesome; fast forward to Lollipop (5.0.1–5.1.1), from 12 hours of Screen On Time (SOT), it got decreased to 8 hours; and fast forward again to Marshmallow (6.0.1), it became from 8 hours to 3 hours. No matter what kernel or battery-saving methods you use, it's futile for a firmware that rots a powerful phone. The only way to fix this is by either using a custom ROM (Refined Nougat, Note 5/7 ported ROMs, etc.), or downgrading your firmware. (Installing KitKat with the latest bootloader prevents you from downgrading).
With a new battery on MM stock and unrooted I was getting 6 hours SOT (Exynos). Dropped off now after using the battery for 18 months, but soon upgrading to Note 9 or 10 anyway.
