I was wondering if it was important to install the upgrade especially that I have a rooted device and would hate having to go through the whole process of re-rooting my device again after the update installation and having to erase all the data and pictures on my phone.
But if not doing so would put me at risk then I have to do it. Thanks.
BTW I am running 9.02. Are there any risks associated with this version?
Any insight please
You just have to download the zip and flash it and before rebooting flash the TWRP installer and magisk and then reboot to system. It should barely take you 3 minutes. Also every security patch is critical in one way or the other.

Dear, a system update has appeared today. However, after downloading, it fails. I think it's because of root. Has anyone experienced something like this or is there any solution to install this update (75MB)
Only option is to use mi flash tool for clean installation and take ota update.I tried all possible options to take ota ;but nothing worked for me.Mi flash tool also not working for me.I used 29 fastboot commands to restore my phone.
Hello, did anyone find an option to make an OTA System Update with unlocked Bootloader, TWRP installed, Magisk root installed and Android One 9 running?
Systemupdate always abort after download
Hello! first time posting and been trolling the forums the last week now since I got my MiA1.
I rooted my device early on the January update (Didn't realize there was more updates.) And now It's rolled into a pile of trouble.
I rooted my device with the patched image and magisk. Then tried to instal Gcam which I apparently did improperly I think because it locked my phones bootloader and gave me the error "The system is destroyed"
Reloading into bootloader and unlocking it fixed this but then I got the OTA update notice and my system has randomly restarted to boot loop a few times. TWRP is also installed I believe from when trying to install Gcam.
So my question is, Can I return to the original stock system and image? I would like to safely remove everything, root, gcam, twrp, magisk and return to how it was, I feel like I need to be more careful and learn more about the root process.
I also attempted to update with the OTA guide by restoring images in Mgisk, but the update failed and also caused a lot of problems rebooting. Any help is appreciated thank you!
You can use the Mi Flash tool to install the global rom.

I am on OOS 4.5.13 "stock", i used the engineering mode exploit to get magisk root while my bootloader is still locked, now i want to upgrade to latest OOS oreo but i am afraid that this exploit might end up bricking the device. My bootloader is still locked and i have stock recovery (sorry if stating the obvious) and i have no problem losing my data to upgrade to oreo, but i would like to get magisk on oreo when i upgrade, any tips/precautions or a link to a guide would be very helpful. I don't need to root right away as i might like getting OTA updates but i don't wan't to wipe the device another time for some special procedure.
Should i unlock bootloader then upgrade or reverse the order? I keep getting these prompts to upgrade with a disclaimer that full system needs to be downloaded, should i just do it OTA?
PS: i have titanium backup working and can backup the apps i need.

if you are ok with loosing data then i suggest you to unlock the bootloader then flash the latest oos build from the official website ( that makes it easy for you to switch roms easily in the future )
if you need your data then just accept the ota ( obviously you will lose root access and magisk features )
but imo no harm can be done accepting the ota as oneplus itself know that most of users are rooted so they send you the ota as a full build that replace the firmware parts previously modified
the choice is yours

Hello,
So I got the PH1 and I must say I'm head over heels for the phone!!! I had a few custom roms downloaded and ready to go for when I picked it up...but decided to run stock Pie (bl unlock, TWRP, magisk installed) my question is this, as Pie is fairly new and I imagine it will receive Alot of updates, is it possible to flash these OTAs via TWRP? I understand most if the time I need to flash stick recovery back to take OTAs and I don't mind making a /data backup to preserve my settings, but I'm hoping this is not the case? Is there a more simplified way of taking pie OTAs on this phone? I'm asking cuz it's telling me there is a new OTA available( 9.0.0 build ppr1.180905.036) as of 9/18/18 and I obvs want to install it!!! Any guides available that someone can point me to would be swell!!!
Thanks
Ok so I'm dumb, I should have searched a bit first, and I also should have clarified....I really don't need TWRP for anything, I didn't know you could have magisk without TWRP, but can you restore a /data backup without it?
After a long time I finally decided to upgrade to PIE (stock).
The latest official Fastboot ROM I could find is from May (V10.0.9.0) - so this is what I used to install.
Everything went fine, and as expected I was prompted for an OTA upgrade to August which I performed. The Build number become ...V10.0.12.0
Afterwards I installed Magsik (V19.3) via Boot to TWRP - also with no problem.
But surprise: I was prompted for another OTA-upgrade this time to July2019, and the Build number shows V10.0.9.0 !
Ok, I uninstalled Magisk to get this upgrade done, but the upgrade failed..
Went back to re-flash the Fastboot ROM for May and .. and ... and the story repeated.
Any idea what's going on?
I would reflash whole ROM with the latest official Fastboot ROM again (do not forget to remove bootloader lock command from the flashing script or you'll lose your data) and flash Magisk from TWRP. For the OTA update follow this guide, you don't really need to mess up with TWRP more than once https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tutorials.md.
One thing to keep in mind - do NOT allow system modifications in TWRP as it will mount system partition as R/W and prevent future OTA updates to install. If you allowed it somewhere in the past (or you don't remember) - delete TWRP settings from /sdcard/TWRP and pay attention on the first boot of TWRP.
