Hi, how are you?
What happens is that I stop working the iris when I put the liquid protector (nano hi tech), the point is that I'm not sure if it's chance or definitely this substance forms a film that prevents the sensor from reading the iris. Enter the test mode by dialing *#0*# and when you give the iris camera test you see a gray background with 2 circles and say this: $change: 15177986 $, $ Revision: #2 $.
If anyone knows anything about it, I would appreciate your help. regards

Hi, how are you? I already took it to the guarantee and they told me that it is the liquid protector, since they put a new iris camera and it does not detect the iris, because of the thin film that this product makes. Could it be possible? The worst case is that I have tried to remove it with a lot of chemicals but it does not work. someone knows with certainty that it is the best thing to remove this product. regards

My FP scanner stopped working recently...figured it was software related so i went ahead and wiped the stats..restarted, installed new custom rom...no cigar.
I have dropped my phone in water so im assuming its water damage.
Anyone got any ideas where i can get a replacement and get it fixed?
Thanks!
Same here, I can't find a solution at all. Flashing new roms dont fix it neither does wiping data

If water has affected the hardware, i doubt that you can ever fix this problem( if i were you, i would dismantle the phone and try and clean-and completely dry any water off it- the FP scanner and see if it works....but i would not advise you to do such a thing if you are not comfortable with it).
If, however it's a software issue, Flashing a new ROM would have fixed this problem.
The good news here though is that you can use the traditional lock, which many Atrix users prefer over the FP scanner.
another option is too look for a bricked phone or one with a cracked screen for parts to replace the FP scanner.
funny thing about water damage....i dropped it in may...literally 3 months ago..and now its causing an issue...guess i have to live with no FP scanner..

Just got a replacement from them for about $30 with the back as well for good measure. Friend from the US shipped it up here to save.
my old one actually does work haven't determined why my sensor gives me issues (off balance so it records swipes that aren't happening - not sure what the cause is cause it just goes away after some adjustment). the point being you are in toronto so you can have mine for $10 and i would install it as well.

you might not need both, but to be safe spend the extra $5. I haven't used the one I bought since it appears to be working fine.
This phone is very easy to torn apart.
yeah its actually one of the easiest out there
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Atrix-4G-Teardown/4964/1
you won't have to go beyond step 6 for this repair.
There is an onlilne outfit that supplies replacement parts for the Atrix, but doing so is not for the faint of heart.. The site is located at www.repairsuniverse.com
I considered going through them to replace my glass when it lost a battle with gravity and a concrete slab, and noticed at the time, they have just about any part that you could need, including the board that contains the FP scanner.

The sticker like cover of my scanner is peeling away. Is this the same as the cover that they have for sale?
you mean the black put your finger against? the cover is actually underneath that.

I bought it before I saw your post. You are right. The cover actually rests underneath the FP scanner itself.
In stead of buying the entire scanner, what I did was super glue the sticker back down. It's not exactly pretty, but the scanner still works flawlessly.
Can anyone recommend some applications that would successfully mimic a smart cover. I bought the official samsung case for my note and want this feature. I know it is not built in and I have downloaded so many apps to find out that they don't work well. The one on my phone works well though but that uses the proximity sensor which my note doesn't have. Can anyone make some suggestions? I will appreciate it!
try magnet locker.. U will have to place a magnet on the cover( after finding the sweet spot) to make it work

Thank you. I tried that app and it doesnt work well. Well I dont have a magnetic around to make that modification. Sucks.
Does anyone have access to a 3D scanner? If we had a 3D design file for the back of the phone, we could print different backings through a company like shapeways..
I hate the shiny plastic back on the device and would prefer not void the warranty with the process described here.

Yup. I have a 3d laser scanner at work. Now how do you get it off without damaging anything? Maybe once I'm past my return period I'll give it a shot.

The person (retrospooty) who sanded his back was able to get it off by:
retrospooty said:
Push your fingernail in between the back cover and front so you have a slim gap, then proceed around the edges popping each clip as you go. It's pretty much just like a removable back cover Ala Samsung, but maybe 50% harder to remove. You might feel like you are going to break it, but it wont break. Just go slow and steady.

I just realized that the wireless charging for the Verizon version has a wireless charging unit attached to the back - so it might be more difficult than just scanning, printing, and attaching. There is a picture of the back in retrospooty's post here.
Hi everyone. Today, I noticed that something is covering my front camera lens.
Do you know what is that piece covering the camera? Anyone encounter this situation?
I didn't drop my phone not even once and I tried to smack the top of the phone to see if it moves, but no luck.
P.S. The camera is able to take pictures normally.
I have a SM-N9005.
Thanks
Go exchange it... Looks like a faulty device. It could be a piece of electrical tape in the wrong position.

Looks like some sort of cover for the camera.
Maybe this site can help understand: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Note+3+Teardown/19209
But i think @nicholaschum 's solution will work best.

I don't think they will consider to be a faulty device and change it, although I would like a new Note 3 :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To me, it seems to be a soft plastic that keeps the front-camera in position and not to touch directly the front-panel (display assembly).
So, probably they will change/remove the soft plastic
GO to your provider an request a NEW device
Do this : Contact 1st Samsung Service in your country and tell to them the problem becouse this a factory fault phone .
After you make some papers and a proove that you contacted already the samsung Service from your country , contact your seller and show him the problem
YOU MUST proove that : you did NOT DROPED your PHONE , DID NOT SHOCKED YOUR PHONE with some other things , like drop with speed in bed trow in the pillow etc etc , proove that you did not used any screwdriver , to have ORANGE WATER SENSOR in the back under the battery STILL ORANGE and NO ROOTED PHONE .
THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR DEVICE , BECOUSE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX THAT IS A PART OF A PLASTIC THAT WAS SLIPPERED FROM HIS PLACE .
Yesterday my fingerprint was working about 90% of the time, today it's complete trash.
Also there is a setting in the phone where it will completely wipe and factory reset your device after 15 failed attempts. With this crappy scanner it's a good thing to uncheck this option before your phone gets wiped.
Can this problem even be fixed with a future software update or is it flawed hardware?
Not too happy about a $1,600. phone with a crappy fingerprint scanner.
Don't worry about the factory wiping aft 15 attempts. The phone will ask you for an alternate method (pin or pattern) to unlock the phone once the 5th fingerprint attempt fails.
I think Samsung will improve it with future updates, but not by much.
I would not hold out much hope for an improvement. If you want to see improvement you need to do three things:
1. You need to enroll your primary finger at least 2, ideally 3 times.
2. When you are enrolling your finger, don't follow the instructions to move your finger around, rather just naturally grip your device as you would when you grab your phone to unlock it, and only scan that way.
3. This is the most contentious one, but probably the biggest difference. Do not use any screen protector at all. Any physical barrier is a sound barrier, and therefore an ultrasonic sensor will perform worse the more layers of stuff there is on top of it.

I tried this once I got the phone enrolled my finger twice... problem solved..
One thing that the fingerprint sensor does not do well with, for some bizarre reason, is dry skin. If you have really dry fingers or the weather is very dry causing you to have dry fingertips, the sensor is definitely more prone to failure when scanning.
I also found one bug just a few minutes ago. If you have a Bixby routine running with widgets, you are required to unlock your phone to see the widgets, but the fingerprint sensor us disabled in this mode and needs you to explicitly press the unlock option before it will even scan.
A completely dry finger is the main problem. Try licking your finger and then try to unlock the phone. It would unlock the phone extremely fast and easy.
I don't know how this can be improved with a software update...
Fyi I am using the preinstalled screen protector. I agree that it would work much better without it. But I am afraid to leave the screen unprotected... What do you think?

lol,... and since the flu season isn't over yet, remember to wash your hands thoroughly before licking your fingers to avoid catching any bugs. Sorry, I know it's not that funny to deal with the fp sensor, it's just ridiculous. I personally went through that before sending it back and getting S10e. "my life is much better now..."

Guys it may seem stupid but I was reading a post about the S10+ fingerprint sensor and think I have the way it was supposed to be used figured out. They described using it as jabbing the screen

Because it's not supposed to be used on this device, it's unsafe and the S10 doesn't have an Iris scanner anymore, it will get fooled by a simple picture.

Don't worry. Once the S11 comes out the FPS issues will be history and you will also get Android 10 plus the latest security patch, or at the very least one that's no more than 3 months old. That will be $2000 please.

Rushed out? What are you even talking about?
They clearly specified that Android's face unlock is crap and it should be deleted, except Samsung never deletes stock android features, just don't touch it and use the bloody world's most advanced fingerprint authentication.
Try keeping hands moisturized with lotion instead of spitting :crying:. i use a lot of alcohol at work which dries my fingers out. after using lotion finger print worked a lot better. Keep Moisturized boys and girls lol
