Rooting Redmi Note 7 - m1901f7g - Global Version - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I'm coming from Samsung and this is my first Xiaomi phone, so I need a quick reply to make sure I will not fry my motherboard.
I bought the 128GB Redmi Note 7 m1901f7g - Global Version and planning to root my phone to gain the access I need.
I was looking through the XDA and most threads are about the Lavender version and I'm not sure what that really is.
For example, will this work for my phone
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/one-redmi-note-7-unlock-bootloader-t3890751
if not, could you guide me to the correct thread, please? I'm away from the US and phones are 3 times the price in the country I'm in right now. I don't want to pay ridiculous amounts of taxes for a basic phone. I hope you get it (They charge $650 for this thing here, ridiculous!)
thanks!

Oh thank god, after dealing with Verizon, ATT, Tmobile, etc versions all those years, lavender didn't make any sense... Thanks again!

You will not see so many variations of the same xiaomi phone like how samsung does, and those variation are codenamed based on their SoC
Lavender: xiaomi redmi note 7 (snapdragon 660)
Violet: xiaomi redmi note 7 pro (snapdragon 675)
If you want to mod your device the first step is to unlock the bootloader by requesting a permission from xiaomi (the official method) then install TWRP (a custom recovery). This is the only time consuming process. Once you get that everything else is done through twrp flashing magisk (the only root you need), flashing custom roms, even some mod and fix are flashable through twrp.
There a thread for unlocking the bootloader in [guide] section, or simply install "mi flash unlock" on your computer and follow the steps it provide.

ah I see, each chip-set has it's own "cute" name. Thank you!

These are the best 2 variants (the only safe ones) to root your cell phone.

Any Redmi Note 3 PRO (Snapdragon) users with unlocked bootloaders willing to help?

I am looking into alternate ways of unlocking the RMN3PRO Bootloader for people and would need some help from a person that has their RMN3PRO already unlocked to acquire some partition dumps for research.
If you own a already unlocked Redmi Note 3 PRO (Snapdragon) and wish to help in making bootloader unlocking easier (and most importantly, faster), please do get in contact with me via PM and / or Hangouts ([email protected]).
EDIT: Can be closed / removed, rooted and dumped what I needed for my research myself.

A few questions before buying

Hello XDA,
I'll keep it short and to the point. Before buying the Axon 7 (from Amazon Italy, so probably A2017G), I have a couple of questions. I know they've been answered before, but the answers I found were old and things may have changed.
1. Can the EU model's BL be unlocked, and CM flashed?
2. Does flashing CM remove the EU model's audio limitation?
3. In your opinion - Moto Z Play or Axon 7?
Thanks for your input
Moto Z's battery is low. 2600mAh is not enough. I think you like custom roms. so don't buy Axon 7. I'm regret to buy because of there is no custom Rom. you can buy OnePlus 3 or 3T
1 - All models can be BL unlocked. If by CM you mean CyanogenMod, then I don't know about the EU (2017G) version, but you sure don't want to considering how incomplete it is right now.
2 - Last I checked all sound on CM was a mess, however you can flash mods to remove the audio output limitation the 2017G model has.
3 - Neither. If you're aiming for the price range of an A7 buy the OnePlus 3T instead.
It sounds like community development, and a stock-ish ROM matters to you, which is why I recommend the OnePlus 3T instead.
I bought an axon 7 since it seemed like zte would support indy developers. They didn't, I sold it to a friend, friend got pissed because of the lack of wifi calling and crap reception, zte doesn't honor the warranty for reception issues since they blame your carrier, had to take phone back or lose a friend. That said, watching the doublespeak from zte and their fans optimism has been hilarious
There are three models of the Axon 7.
1. A2017 - Chinese model - not bad. Haven't heard people complaining about it.
2. A2017U - North American model - I have this, I like it. CM13 still has a few bugs but once those get fixed the flood gates on custom roms will open up big time. It is a nice phone.
3. A2017G - European model - nothing but complaints. I have never heard one person on here say anything good about this model, and any possible complaint that can be made about a smartphone has been made with this smartphone by EVERYONE! AVOID THE A2017G MODEL AT ALL COSTS!
The A2017U is a good one, is 100u$s less than a Oneplus3T, Nougat is coming, battery and speed are just great.
You have the money? Go for the Oneplus3T, if not, think about the A2017U, not the European version

I was actually considering the Moto Z Play - that one has a 3500 mAh battery, and is considered to have among the best battery life. About ROMS - I'm not a flashaholic. I just need a stable, CM/AOSP based ROM (I don't use Google Services).
I can't/won't buy a Oneplus 3T. First of all, because it's insanely expensive on Amazon or locally; and also because, coming from a Oneplus X, I don't support Oneplus's practices (they abandoned the X after one update, which was a year late).

I definitely wanted the US model, but I can't buy it (U.S. Amazon doesn't ship to where I live). The 128GB/4GB Chinese model is available on AliExpress for cheaper than the normal EU model, so you're saying I should go for that?
I would say no. The Chinese model probably doesn't pick up your LTE bands in Italy. Just stay away from the A2017G model. There was a post here about getting the A2017U model shipped to Europe in the past. Don't know if it is still there though.

I actually live in Israel, and the Chinese model supports all the bands I need. That thread sounds interesting though, I'll look for it.
I have a A2017G and have nothing to complain about. You can install CM on this unit like all others U and chinese. I currently have the stock based rom from DrakenFX and the custom kernel BeastMode.
I am satisfied with that. Important for me will be the nougat update which will come to us this month.
I'm also using G model (Poland) and there's nothing wrong with it.

I must disagree, I have the A2017G and there is nothing to complain about.
I was also trying to decide between the Moto Z Play and the Axon 7. I chose the Axon 7 for the Quad HD screen (beautiful for reading or movies), the faster processor (see YouTube videos of the Antutu video tests on the Moto Z Play), and optical image stabilization. I didn't expect to care about the front-facing speakers, but they're a pleasure. Also the phone is smaller in the pocket, the Moto Z Play is huge with lots of space around the screen.
Pros for the Moto Z Play: front fingerprint sensor (the Axon 7's is very fast and saves space being on the back but I don't find it as convenient), up to 1.5x longer battery life (my "3250 mAh" battery is really 3050 mAh but I don't care because it still lasts me 24h under typical conditions), more stock-like OS, flat screen is easier to find a tempered glass screen protector.
Overall I'm very happy with the choice of the Axon 7 (rooted, lots of Xposed modules, no CM so far) coming from the OnePlus One.
As a moto x pure owner (xt1575, 2015 edition), this is my last motorola product. Since lenovo took over, the promise of steady updates is a lie. The device is all but abandoned. Supposedly android 7 will be released for it at some point but nothing definitive. As for MM updates, I believe the most current one includes the august 2016 security updates. Nothing more recent.
I think it's a crap shoot with either company. The A7 has it's 4 carrier support (albeit sprint hasn't certified it yet). Where as the moto z play is primarily a vzw phone with some lte bands of other carriers. Not sure if the Z play can be rooted/bootloader unlocked either as it's a vzw device.

Bootloader unlocked, can I use any rom?

So Ive had this Verizon Note 3 since day one. Finally unlocked my bootloader... What are the rules on what I can and can't do now. Can I install any Android rom? Can I only install note 3 roms from any carrier... Can I install only Verizon note 3 roms? Or is it a hybrid... I can install any rom if I replace the firmware and or modem.
I really want something on 7.1 but I'd rather take 6 and have something custom... Fast and responsive.
Thanks community.
You are in luck. :crying:
There's hardly anything to choose from; maybe 3 or 4 ROMs and about the same number of kernels.
AFAIK, there are no Nougat ROMs and only one Marshmallow ROM (AryaMod6.6).
Normally, when a dev ships a "ROM", there are two important pieces: the /system image (what some folks call "the ROM"), and the boot image. The boot image is what some folks erroneously call "the kernel"; but it is really a combination of kernel + ramdisk. The ramdisk has all the scripts in it that the "init" process reads to start up all the low-level daemons and services... as well as the Android UI as well.
The kernel is very tightly tied to the specific hardware in a given handset - both the processor/gpu and all the sensors/leds/peripherals.
So that's the reason you can't just flash any old ROM. In the least bad case, your device wouldn't boot; in the worst bad case the kernel would boot up far enough go off in the weeds and possibly damage some of your hardware.
You might be tempted to think "we'll, what if I find a boot image for the "hltevzw" SM-N900V device... can I flash that after I have flashed 'any old Android ROM'? Won't that take care of things?"
Well, not really. The system library binaries in /system are possibly compiled with instruction-set optimumization tweaks that are only supported by specific CPU and GPU hardware chips. Moreover, other peripheral chips such as GPS have unique "downloadable" vendor firmware in the system image... so again, there's the issue of hardware dependencies of the /system image.
Beyond that, there's carrier-specific "setup and activation" software that differs between ROMs, so even using ROMs that are from a different carrier's version of the exact same handset hardware might not work fully - specifically in the telephony function areas. Everything else might work fine though. For instance if you wanted to use the device as a WiFi-only unit for kid's games etc.
Note BTW that the "International" Note 3 GSM phones are not the same hardware - they use an Exynos processor.
good luck in your quest
Thanks
That was very helpful... Looks like Araya is my best bet. I'll leave jasmine rom to try it.
I was hoping that I could get another note 3 rom on this forum and flash the CDMA modem for networking... But doesn't seem like that's an option.
If I'm still stuck to Verizon Note 3 rom... What is the purpose or benefit of unlocking the bootloader... Was that really just to avoid Odin so I can flash my couple rom choices easier?
I appreciate your time!

I might have very slightly overstated the case for pessimism. There is a "consolidated" Verizon Note 3 Forum which is meant for devs to provide development tools and even ROMs that could potentially be used on devices from more than one carrier. But the world being organized the way it is, that means that you are more likely to find multi-carrier GSM ROMs over there than multi-carrier ROMS which support GSM and oh by the way CDMA and LTE as well.
If you want to fool around over there, I recommend that you proceed with great caution to make sure that the ROMs you choose specifically target Qualcomm MSM8974AB Note 3 handsets, and you should read the developer notes very carefully to see whether you need to flash an "hltevzw" kernel separately. If the dev does not mention "supports hltevzw" or "supports N900V" (for example here) you might be taking chances with your hardware.
I suppose it is possible that the radios are 100% "software defined" in the sense of which bands they can support. Maybe you can get what you want by simply flashing the desired carrier's "modem" firmware, but I have never done that so I can't say for certain whether that works or you are risking a brick (or hardware damage) by doing that. I simply don't know (e.g.) if the chips and antennas in a T-mo version of the Note 3 are identical or different from a Verizon Note 3's hardware

Well, for one - having a custom recovery allows you to make backups - even if you never change ROMs
People don't think of backups as being "sexy", but they allow you something which is really valuable: freedom to mess around and experiment with the knowledge that "if something goes wrong, I'll just restore the backup".
And with Odin, you only had the choice of Stock Roms. Now you have a few more.
cheers
Yes you can install Any rom for note3
Here is my experience with installing roms on note 3 after unlock bootloader
you should Flash twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img by ODIN for the hlte roms or twrp-2.8.7.0-hltevzw-4.4.img if you looking to flash verizon roms ,

i tryed to add screenshot but i couldn't its my firist reply
@ALPHA85
Pretty informative first post - thanks, and welcome aboard!
Are you on a Verizon SIM? If not, have you been flashing modems from other Note3 devices?
Just curious; I don't have much experience with radio issues or carrier activation issues. Trying to port a carrier-specific ROM elsewhere (esp starting from a VZW ROM) looks like a massive pile of interlocking software dependencies, though. My respect to anyone who can succeed at it.
Feel free to write a brief summary about what's broken in each - any of them have NFC working? I was on CM13 (trader418) for a long time and would have been happy to stay there were it not for all the GPS issues.
Thank you ,
i dont use Verizon SIM becouse im from egypt, i bought my verizon note 3 by wrong , when i bought it i saw N9005 under the battery and in the boot screen also inside the rom ,it was lollipop 5.0 ,but sinse i did factory rest i surprised it change to N900V even the imei changed , till now i cant understand how they flashed N9005 rom for N900V device with locked bootloader
i'm on OF1 bootloader unlocked and i flashed PL1 Modem i thought maybe it help me to get LTE but still the same H+
about NFC i really didn't try it at all , i always disable it by titanium pro

When you first got it, did it appear to have a Verizon ROM on it? (For instance, the Verizon splash screen?) Or some other carrier's logo?
Actually, that cleared something up for me. Well, except for the part about the IMEI changing
Apparently there were both LTE and GSM models of the "Note 3" that were sold in international markets. I understand the LTE version was originally sold in China, but the GSM model is more common?
The SM-N9005 is an LTE phone (I don't know about CDMA) with the Qualcomm MSM8974 processor
and the N9000 is the GSM model with an Exynos 5420 processor
So that probably explains the binary compatibility of the SM-N900V and the SM-N9005 - same processor, and both phones were designed for LTE service.
But your report should give @cyberoptics a little less pessimistic view of things; thank you for that.
But I wouldn't go so far as to say you can flash ANY Note 3 ROM. Even though both the Exynos and Qualcomm processors use ARM cores, they are fairly different - the Exynos has 8 cores, half of which are Cortex-A15, and the MSM8974 has only four cores which are Krait- something or other. I think they are not quite compatible. Note that in theory, ARM code that was compiled to earlier standards (e.g. thumb, armv5) would certainly work on both devices - but if they compiled ALL the code in ROM libraries that way they would be giving up a lot of performance on either device. So.... to the extent that they target processor specifics for either Cortex-A15 or Krait, they will be incompatible.
cheers.

bftb0 I just wanted to thank you once again for your consistently helpful, verbose posts about the N900V. I've been using CM13 thinking it was the best thing going, when, as nice as it was at the time, it doesn't hold water compared to AyraMod, which I switched to yesterday after reading this thread.
Now my GPS won't take me sailing past Easter Island when en route to a noon meeting downtown. Maybe Google Cardboard will even work, now that NFC appears to.
Thanks again, and please don't ever bore of being a great and helpful resource, we need you!

[MTK] Unlock bootloader - account not bound to device.

Hi all,
as mentioned in the title, I am having issues trying to unlock the bootloader of a Redmi note 3 Mediatek edition.
Worth to mention is that I have, of course, applied for the unlocking permission and got it. I also have used the Xiaomi Updater tool to update to the last stable version.
The problem that I am facing right now is that every time I try to use the Mi Unlocker tool, it complains that the account is not bound to the device.
I checked and that is not the case and I also tried to follow many guides.
All of them refer to the Snapdragon version which (apparently) does not work with the Mediatek version.
What I am trying to ask here is if there is a known working procedure and/or workaround to this kind of problem or if any of you would now how to move from here.
Thanks

Did you bind the account to your phone in Dev settings? If you did, just simply ask the Customer service and they will help you to get it unlocked. Use Chinese to talk to them if you can.

Problem is that in the MTK version this option is on available under the Dev settings.. That is also the reason why I opened the thread with the MTK tag.

Root for the Samung Galaxy S10 5G

Hey all, I have successfully achieved root on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B. The process was simple due to it being the same process as topjohnwu already published. This is the official page for the instructions by topjohnwu which do work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. If you struggle at any point feel free to reply and I will help where I can.
Currently TWRP doesn't work but I am spending time attempting to port it over. I am in no way an advanced developer but technology is my passion. So if I am successful and another developer hasn't already ported one over I'll be happy to post, but expect bugs. Due to this my device is currently unrooted but I can quickly root it and add pictures to prove .
Happy Rooting!.
Verizon Locked?
Are you in the US? The only way to currently buy it is through Samsung/Verizon and I am worried it may be locked to Verizon. Will that cause any issues in terms of rooting?

The US version of the Galaxy S10 5G Model is snapdragon 855 SM G977U and from a bit of search you won't be able to root
If you want to root your phone your going to need an Exynos version SM G977N Unlocked & SM G977B of the Galaxy S10 5G which he has above
Your going to have to wait until someone sells a unlocked version of the snapdragon even then don't know if you can still root

I'm new to this but does rooting depend on the phone being carrier unlocked? Or by "unlocked" you mean bootloader unlocked?

Exynos bootloader unlocked
Hey all, a proper guide with all the information will be posted soon in the meantime I am working on TWRP and will post updates on how I'm doing. If any developers want to potentially lend a hand then feel free to PM me or email me.

Currently I can successfully boot into TWRP by flashing a custom modified built using the s10+ device tree as a base with modifications to fit the s10 5g.
TWRP seems to work perfectly, and it seems that the current issue is all the security measures Samsung put in place. I have attempted modifying the multidisabler just by adding my version to the support list but while I do get further then without it. I still get stuck on Samsung logo before a reboot. And based in my limited knowledge on the script and also looking through the files as root previously it seems Samsung has changed a few files around. So that is were I am at.
Latest update: I am now working with ianmacd (the current maintainer of Unnofficial TWRP for the s10/+/e) to bring youse and myself a working twrp for our devices!, according to my observations and Ian's observations when building a custom kernel that the s10 5g is more different than the s10/+/e range so please be patient while me an Ian work on this. Based on everything he will now be the lead developer and I'll be the tester gathering all required files. I doubt my work will be used but it was fun experimenting with it and who knows maybe it could help. I'll continue to post updates

Hey there! Do you have any updates on this? I just received my new S10 5G today (coming from G975).
I saw @ianmacd mention this variant on his G97x TWRP thread... is it already working? Safe to patch AP with Magisk? What about the multidisabler?
Thanks mate!
I just seen that Sprint's US 5g ver has a boot loader that can be unlocked. I just checked on my fully updated Sprint 5g the setting is there. One step closer to root?
guys
do you know if exynos 5G will give 5G signal on tmobile ?
i want the 5G model
Any progress?
There seems to be a lack of progress in the recent days.
How are we going with it?
I am trying to make a rooting solution as I type this.

I'm actually considering purchasing this phone since I find out it's bootloader can be unlocked and there's root possibility.. I really hope it can be done.
no progress right ?
most people dont have the phone
and the root right now is for the B model which is going for 1500 on ebay
while the N model can be found for 700
N model needs root so badly
i want the 5G but due to lack of support i can't buy it
keeping the s10+ for now

I will not charge anything for the rooting to occur.
I wish to keep it free.

Exactly that.
I will charge $0.00 for the ability to root a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G.
Hey all, sorry for my lack in response. I'll post a post up shortly describing the current situation. Wish you all well.
God damn it, he managed to escape us for 3 months this time with out answering to our hails!
MarshiMello you fluffy white sugary softy! My husband has a very "similar" perhaps exactly the same perception of the word "SHORTLY" us Samsungites are onto you!.
Hello everybody,
I have an SM-G977B and I followed the root guide in the top of this thread.
Arrived at "Unlocking Bootloader" => "Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader." in download mode that option is not in the list and pressing volume up nothing happens.
By skipping that step with Odin I can only load original roms without the root.
How do I get the option to unlock the bootloader in the download mode menu?
Excuse me for the bad English,
best regards.
