Is there any chance the Skype mobile apk file could be modified to work on T-Mo network?
Of course this thread might get the easy answers such as:
1) "No"
2) "It cant be done"
3) "It checks verizon's network?"
... but I'd be happier to hear from experts that know how it actually works/could be done.
Verizon skype apk: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rnwab1
No. It cant be done. It checks verizon's network.
Ok, helpful now... There's no need for Skype mobile.
Using it to call normal phone numbers uses minutes. The only free part is using it to call other Skype numbers. And you can already use Fring or Sipdroid from the Market to do this (AND do VoIP calls to normal numbers), so the Skype mobile app for Verizon is pretty much just crap.

Yeah your right it is pretty crappy that Skype put those restrictions on it by sleeping with the enemy (Big Red).
I was just going to see if it could work on T-Mo though because then I could get my family members to use it as well and make good quality voip calls like I could on the iPhone version.
SIPdroid is dear to my heart but the quality on outbound calls is pretty unusable for me, inbound is still good though. I tell all my friends that "if you get a call from me, dont pick up and just call me back."
Fring 3g quality was serviceable before but it was laggy (I would say something and the other person would start talking and then mid sentence would hear what I said and it would mess up the conversation). It probably has had some updates though so I will try it out again.
dunno if this helps but i read somewhere today that vonage is coming to tmobile and att with calls over wifi capability.
3 has got this for a long time now (no Android client yet) but the acctual calling is routed using a gsm center, no VOIP at all. I have installed the apk for t-mobile and it almost does the same thing ( it doesn't work outside tm network)

Just checked the Market. Vonage is there.
It looks like free USA calls, but only over wifi.

[Edit]: I'm reading the app comments and I don't understand, people are saying $5 pay as you go, etc.
So maybe you have to pay $5 a month for "free" wifi calls. I don't get it. Anyone tried it yet?

Seems like false advertising.

Thanks for the info you guys! I've made 3 calls over WiFi with Vonage app and the customer service reps say I sound crystal clear
Now for the real challenge boys... Since Vonage can make free domestic calls over wifi. How do we trick the N1, like on jailbroken iPhone's, into thinking its on wifi even if its on 3g?
Edit: The wifi calling is 100% free, dont add any money even if the app asks you for it (just press the back button to get rid of the prompt)

How do you KNOW it was making calls over wifi?
I just signed up and installed it, and no matter what I do, it always calls from my normal phone number, rather than my Google Voice number, which is what I chose during the sign up process.
Also, turning Airplane mode on and then turning Wifi on doesn't let me make any calls. It says disable airplane mode.
Is there a way to KNOW 100% whether the call is being routed over wifi or normal phone?

On my end I can guarantee that its making the calls through WiFi because of the data only plan I am on. T-Mo has two different types of $40/mo data plans:
1) $40/mo with T-mo hotspot access but cannot make ANY calls (except 911)
2) $40/mo without T-mo hotspot access but can make calls for $.10/min
I have the first option and if I try to make a regular call it says "the service you are attempting to use has been restricted or unavailable" and hangs up. Even if I try to make a call through GVoice it says the same thing so I know I cant make any cellular calls. But I can make a call through the Vonage app with WiFi (although I do have to have on Edge/3g with the WiFi your right).
I just checked my T-Mobile account as well and I dont see any minutes used either.
Now if only we can get this thing to think its on WiFi even if only on 3g!

When I set GV to not call intercept, it will just call using my normal phone number. Vonage just sits there doing nothing.
A few times the Vonage dialer has popped up (if I had GV set to make ALL calls), but then Vonage crashed (Force Close).
Bleh, must be an issue with the Desire caller =\
Fring is flawless with skype dumb easy to setup for idiots like myself
I use it w/o a simcard in my g1 and keep my sim in the n1
I tried this vonage doesn't seem to work with the sim card out or in...if any one can post the correct steps to make domestic calls over wifi on the vonage app please(w/o a sim card it the only sure way to know its using wifi only)
I updated my VZW S5 to the latest and greatest 4.4.4 and have activated the VoLTE options.
Prior to this, I had set up *71 forwarding to my GV number, and it had worked for years.
Today, I found out that when my VZW number is called, and I don't answer, the call goes into a ringing "loop". It seems that VZW is not forwarding to the GV number.
I've tried cancelling forwarding and reactivating using *71, *72, *90, and *92, but the result is the same.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone find a solution?

Tried again today. *71 and 10 digit GV number. Seems like it takes, but when I call my mobile it just rings, pauses, then starts ringing again, it never actually forwards to GV.

I've tried this and it has not solved my problem. The number that shows up for me is the same as my Voice number.
superrelaxx, do you have a full-function GV account with its own Google-issued number, on which people can call you, or do you have a GV "Lite" account, that is only used for voicemail?
Working with Verizon Wireless, and they claim there is a problem during the forwarding. I'm likely oversimplifying, but it seems that VZW sends the call to AT&T Landline, who then sends it to Google's landline operator (I forget who they said this was), then it goes to Voice. For my number, there is a problem at the transition from AT&T Landline to Google's operator. So basically, it is a network issue that is occurring on a disinterested carriers network, and so nothing is happening fast.
On a side note, I tried to get creative since others still have working VZW to Voice forwarding, and I got a new number, and paid to keep the old number, too, in the hopes that a new number would work... No joy, I'm out $30 and now have a second number that behaves the same way as the first.
After discussions here and on the Google Product Forums, I disabled VZW Advanced Calling. Now conditional call forwarding works.

Yeah I guess that's the only fix for this. Makes no sense to me why voLTE would mess with call forwarding options.
I'm not sure what is happening here but i can't get my phone to place calls via Google Voice. Anyone else use Google Voice on their stock G6 successfully? If I dial a number the stock phone dialer calls the GV relay number but I never hear it ring on my end. If they answer I can't hear them either.
I'm on software version h87211g on T-Mobile. Completely stock phome. Did the BOGO deal and the problem happens on both of these phones.
I've been using GV for years and never experienced this. It works as it should on any other phone I test it on. LG Stylo 3, Galaxy S9, S9+ Note5, erc...
I can factory reset this phone, install Google Voice and no bueno. Can't make calls with GV.
Just tried again. Reset and wiped the phone to factory stock and did default setup. I let Google and LG do whatever updates it needed to do. Everything works perfectly. I went to the play store and downloaded Google Voice and setup normally and have it set to use my GV number to make all calls as I always have. Try to make a call and it never rings. The receiving line will ring but when they answer no audio is passed through.
I just grabbed my old Note 5, reset it back to stock and did the same process. Installed Google Voice and it works perfectly. Also grabbed an old LG F3 I had in a drawer and it worked on it also. Seems to be some combo issue with this dialer, maybe VOLTE and who knows what. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I have VOLTE on or off or if WiFi is on or off. It just doesn't work for me on this phone.

Didn't work. It brings up the stock dialer, calls the relay number then no audio. Person called does receive the call but they can't hear anything and it never tells me the call connected on my end.
I found an older version of GV from January and get the same issue. Just installed Hangouts and the Hangouts dialer and it will make calls fine.
I can receive calls fine on GV also. Just cant make them. Two brand new and identical G6 doing this.
I'm going to stop by the TMO store and get a new SIM just to try anything at this point.

Yes it's working. I could always send texts but to be able to make calls I had to download the Google Hangouts dialer.
Finally got it to work. Ended up giving the G6 to my wife who doesn't use Google Voice and took her S9 which she complained would drop calls
Now both our problems are solved. I have a properly working Goole Voice and she says the call quality is better. Bigger battery is a plus for her too. Not sure how but she can put in a good four or five hours talking to ONE person.

Sounds like you didn't actually get it to work, you just worked around the problem
I'm on AT&T and GV calling works fine for me. So I can't provide any direct data here and I don't have any need for a solution. But I would still prefer to see an explanation for why this wasn't working (and preferably a fix) since it could help others who are affected.
What I would have suggested is: manually call into your own GV number and hit the button when it answers (* or #, I forget which) that lets you get in and listen to messages and make calls. Try dialing out from that menu and see how it works. Also, you didn't mention whether you had the same problem regardless of who you called, or whether you were able to test from different locations (and thus using a different cell tower).
It seems most likely that there is some issue with the G6's implementation of VoLTE (and possibly only in your area). The only place I know I have made GV calls, I often won't have an LTE signal so I can't confirm whether it works over AT&T's VoLTE, but it would be even more interesting if it did not.

I'd love to get to the bottom of it. I'll test it again when and if another system update comes out for this thing. I've added a few more things I've done to see if I could figure it out. The only thing I haven't done is try a SIM for a different carrier such as ATT or Cricket. The results of any test were the same. Outbound calling through Google Voice would never ring on my end and I could never hear anything. Two different G6 phones, brand new, stock, etc...
I tested on Wifi, regular LTE, VOLTE on or off. Same results. The other party may or may not be able to hear me or it may or may not even ring on their end. No particular setting with regard to being on wifi, LTE, VOLTE on or off made any consistent difference. Inbound calling always worked fine.
I also downloaded and installed a modified Pixel phone dialer to replace the LG version. I was hoping it was some bug in their dialer doing this. The dialer worked on my Note5 and S9 and worked on the G6 when installed also. Once setup and working I put Google Voice back on and tried to make a call. Same issue. It will not ring on outbound and if someone did answer, I couldn't hear them.
I have enabled Wifi Calling on my PH-1 and I know for a fact that my carrier supports it. It works fine too, but it's set to "Mobile Preferred". I chose this setting because my Wifi isn't too reliable. However, whenever I call, it uses Wifi even though I am getting LTE+? Is there any way to fix this?
Does anyone have any idea? I have looked all over the internet but have not found any solution? Could it possibly be my carrier?
When I try to enable wifi calling, my launcher crashes. So you are one step ahead of me

Not that I know of. I don't think they would look at your WiFi calling settings if sent out for repairs. Once you install Oreo open market firmware just relock the bootloader, setup your phone including TMobile WiFi calling settings. Once you update to Pie they shouldn't be able to tell anything because all different variants use the same firmware and your bootloader will be locked encase you send your phone out for repairs.

No, your carrier number will change. The port to GV takes approximately 24 hours. So you have to deal with a GV assigned number for a day. After that though you have your regular old number. I barely even know my new Verizon number as I don't give it to anybody. I figure this way, I'll never have to worry about WiFi calling or who my carrier is again.

I have the same issue. It was working fine on Oreo. I tried flash.all fastboot using the stock firmware without success. Let me know if you have a solution. Ty
Edit: I got it fixed by flashing flashall back to stock Oreo 8.1 open market from Essential website then let it updated OTA to Pie and my WiFi calling still working fine.

My WiFi stopped working again after I turned it off but I can't turn it back on just like before. Any time I tried to turn it on the phone app forced close.
Considering thanks to T-Mobile's wonderful coverage (says I have good signal strength, but it's not) I have Wi-Fi calling enabled all the time and it works well on the 5Ghz ac side of the router...not so well on the 2.4Ghz b/g which is fine. Again something carrier specific. I went to Pie and kept the WiFi calling running.

Surprisingly, my WiFi calling is now working after updated my phone to today's November security update.
Using the phones on Sprint.
Since three weeks or so, while on LTE, the incoming voice calls are going directly to voice mail.
Sprint looked at it and changed the Network to 3G and now getting a ring for the incoming calls.
Basically, I am forced to run the phones on 3G service.
Need to go to a service center (which is very far for me) to have the phone looked at.
Anyone facing similar issue?
PS: 2 of the 3 PH-1 phones I have, are having the issue.

Google have updated the dialer recently several times, could it be a bug that shows on Sprint, or do you have spam settings on, which I know has caught other people out. Check/play with spam settings in her dialer app.
(other areas I might check (if not dialer or network). I assume all phones were working before correctly, right? Are they different sims or the same sim in different phones? New sims, ie not old one you have cut down hat are old spec. Do lte settings match on different phones?)

Between this and no longer being able to use Google Voice without using a separate number, I think it's time for me to bail on Sprint.
My wife had this issue a bit back. Only happened when the phone was using VoLTE (verified by a debug menu, *#*#4636#*#*, showing both voice/text and data marked as LTE).
Fix was to disable the Enhanced 4G LTE communications option, which forced the phone too fallback to nonVoLTE while still using LTE for data. Again confirmed using the phone information menu which showed voice as 1xRTT and data as LTE.
Hope this help and that we can get a better fix soon.

Any time...
I love sharing my time with ungrateful idiots that can't bother to read or need the red carpet rolled out for them...
Good luck with your device... Hope you drop it in the river

Didn't work for me either but I figured it out... what I had to do is change a setting under Google Voice in Settings under the tab CALLS change to "Use carrier only" and I did have to turn VoLTE off. I left the Preferred network type as LTE. Phone is working well now, with T-mobile and Google Voice I have been testing it all morning.
:highfive:
