Gang,
The May 2019 update is now rolling out.
You should get an OTA update any time soon.
Main update topics:
- Android Generic
https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/2019-05-01.html
- Pixel Specific
"There are no Pixel security patches in the May 2019 Pixel Update Bulletin. "
"All Pixel devices running Android 9 will receive an Android 9 update as part of the May OTA. This quarterly release contains many functional updates and improvements to various parts of the Android platform and supported Pixel devices."
https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/pixel/2019-05-01.html
Have fun
OTA Screenshot
What took you so long? I installed it more than two hours ago.
Seems nothing changed only security updates. However At-a-Glance widget now have only three options again.
No smart notifications and no Reminders notifications in the options.
Another update and no changes.. Well disappointing

Oh, there are changes, Google is just getting lazy documenting them. How often to you see app updates that only state "bug fixes and performance improvements". I think they just cut & paste that into everything these days...

Haha lets find them out then
1) battery % on the bottom of always on displays looks a bit bigger
The android security patch now says May! :silly::laugh:
I think Google focusing on Android Q and at this point make no sense to add improvements for Android P.
Android Q Beta 3 will be released after/during Google IO event. There will be a lot of announcement and new features for Android Q. Maybe a good time to upgrade.
Any of you guys rooted with magisk? It seems the may updates killed magisk and bootloops, at least for me.
Here's one change i noticed. Charging my device doesn't slow down until 95% full. ampere app shows 1020ma using a QC 3.0 enabled charger, not like before once the device hits 80% it slows down the charging from 1020ma to 600 to 700ma.

I checked and made sure everything is in the latest version, and failed like you. John Wu is going to Apple to get a internship, maybe the update for the new version of magisk would not came out that fast as before. And now I choose to stay in the April update.

The easiest fix to regain root is....go to twrp, flash the magisk uninstaller.zip, then immediately flash the magisk 18.1 zip. You'll have to install your modules again, but that's not too big a deal :good::good:

Fastboot the May factory image with the -w removed from the flash-all.bat file, and let it boot up. Go back to fastboot mode, and fastboot twrp, I use the 323-1 version since I didn't have any luck with the 330-0 version. Once in twrp, flash the twrp installer zip, then flash the magisk uninstaller zip, then flash magisk 18.1 zip, boot up, install your magisk modules again, and done :good:
If I am going to do a clean install (with wipe) do I still need to uninstall magisk in order to prevent bootoops w current version?

Not really since your phone will be completely wiped anyways. You may need to use magisk 18.1 though. The May update and magisk 19+ versions did not work for me :good:

Works fine for me . I had to change to partition a this time to though
There is a UI change which I don't really like, though i will get used to it - probably for the best.
There's a new loading arrow symbol on all apps and pages that are loading. It uses the colour theme of the app.
See attached .
Everyone else notice this?
I want to update but dont want bootloops

I doubt it'll brick your device, but it'll almost definitely remove root access, and it's also possible that it'll break whatever methods there are for obtaining root again.

I wonder if I Could just flash the stock recovery, then apply the OTA then flash CWM and SU
its patching the kernel first looking at it,
tried it on mine just and it errors out, doesn't "brick it" oh I hate that expression, and errors before making any other changes.
Guess I'll need to restore a stock kernel/recovery before flashing it

Deepak Vishnu
Do you think you can explain how to modify the updater script to be able to flash the new update using cwm.
Do you lose root and cwm if you do it this way?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Drc.
Installation seems to work with cwm. Still on the go for me, but no errors yet, and i got through the "Verifying current system" step.
E: nope. gets till the end, but quits with an error (no error message though)
E2: got it now. Update is AWESOME! Tab is faster and responsivenes did really improve. love it!

Is your server having any bandwidth issues? I've had quite a bit of trouble downloading the rom in the past 12 or so hours, with the max speed capping at 15-16kb/s and two dropouts.
That said, It seems to have come good in the last hour though. Thankyou for the effort of putting this up :good:
I updated my TN7 first to 4.4.2 and the previous OTA (2.2 i assume), then used the SuperTool 2.2 from the other thread to unlock and root the tablet with no problems.
Next day this OTA was avaiable and it installed without problems. Root is still active.
I wanted to say i have a EVGA one, but after trying to confirm this, i'm not so sure anymore. Will ask in other thread to find out.
I tried ART with mine and had tons of issues... anything involving the stylus support just went totally wonky. Shame, cuz it certainly zipped along!

Hi all,
For those with the AT&T version of the LG G Pad 7 the Android 5.0.2 update is here. Looks to have been released 2 days ago actually. See http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425003&cv=820
My tablet is not rooted or modified in any way. I checked for updates, says none available so no upgrade for me yet. Will post back once I get it. I've upgraded other devices from KitKat to Lollipop and they are always laggy after the upgrade. I plan to upgrade then factory reset the tablet as that seems to work out much better.
Finally received the update. All went well since I as not rooted or anything like that. Not used it for long but seems a bit more responsive. I did factory reset and set up as new after doing the Lollipop upgrade.
Does anyone know a successful root method. I've tried everything with no luck. There's got to be some way.

No way to root lollipop. I'm back on KK and working on PAC Rom build.

I have the KK source code for the v410. Is there no way to build a KDZ from it? I am guessing there is not because someone would have though of this by now.
I still don't see this update available. Im using it on wifi only, with no sim card. Can this be the issue?
The mobile(SIM) network is used to access protocols(most common is time/date and OTA) that routers ignore. To update go to AT&T and ask for a new SIM or root; custom recovery; flash update.

I downloaded KingRoot from app store and that does the trick.
Is there a manual zip file or something for lollipop? Att with no sim. No OTA available
KingRoot APK worked for me..took two tries..then I replaced their flavor of SU with SuperSU....I still have not been able to custom recovery the beast tho.. Lollipop 5.0.2..tried to Flashify with TWRP 3.0.0.0 Bumped..I get boot certification error when I try to go into recovery.. But I can reboot back into Stock ROM..kinda got cold feet..don't want to hose the device!

Memory woes
I've been running my v410 with lollipop for a while now and was getting pretty discouraged that apps keep crashing. Large apps like games will crash when a calendar notification pops up, etc.
I used KingRoot to gain root and then SuperSUme to replace SU and remove KingRoot bloat. Mostly to kill ads since I'm running stock with no custom recovery (there are only about 6 apps I use that require SU)
So anyway, I recently installed Kernel Adiutor to take a peek at some kernel tweaks. Low and behold, the default low memory killer settings are set super aggressive! The most aggressive preset available in Kernel Adiutor is still only half of the default values. I knocked it down to "moderately aggressive" and my memory problems are gone (mostly). I'm now playing with the Z-RAM settings to try and get my memory usage to be more efficient.
I was afraid I would have to downgrade to KK to get this thing back to usable. Perhaps not...

Wait - you have root on 5.0.2?? Can you post a zip?
I haven't personally used any of the Beta builds of Android 'N' and had a few questions regarding Nougat, Root, TWRP and Xposed.
I always flash the stock factory images using fastboot, so when the Nougat image is available, I plan on wiping and starting fresh. After I get it all flashed, I was wondering how I'd go about getting TWRP? Do I simply flash TWRP using fastboot as I have always done in the past? Or is there a special version of TWRP to be used?
Next, I read SuperSU 2.74 flashed with TWRP will get me rooted, but just wanted to confirm that just to be safe.
Last but certainly least, I realize Nougat is in its infancy stage, custom ROM wise, but will ROMs be rebased from 'M' to 'N' fairly quickly, or is it quite the difficult process? Can I also safely assume Xposed won't be working with Nougat for a while as well?
Sorry for the plethora of questions, I'm new to the Nougat scene.
I'm also interested in finding this stuff out, as I will be coming from rooted paranoid android MM.

There's a new version of TWRP today for Nougat. The previous version wasn't staying installed. TWRP 3.0.2-1: https://dl.twrp.me/angler/twrp-3.0.2-1-angler.img.html
If you want Nougat now, you can use ADB Sideload to install this full update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...gs-full-android-7-0-nougat-nexus-ota-roundup/
Just boot into TWRP, choose "Advanced" and "ADB Sideload".

I took the ota to Nougat, updated to the new twrp, got my phone rooted just fine, now, are there any custom kernels out yet that will work for Nougat?
With the new OTA out, will the factory images be released fairly soon? I'd like to try Nougat and this new TWRP.

Just be careful if you've downgraded that you don't install an OTA update, especially if your bootloader and your system are not at the same patch level. We've seen many instances of downgraded devices being bricked as the OTA patches their newer bootloader (as the OTA appears to assume that your system is the same patch level as your bootloader), which corrupts to the point of requiring a blank flash or a motherboard replacement.
If you've downgraded, the safest way to update would be to wait for the fastboot 7.1.1 stock ROM rather than chance it with the OTA.

Oh, thank you! You just saved a noob's device (mine) from getting bricked in future.
I went ahead yesterday and rooted my device.
Things have happened in the following manner
I purchase a moto g play xt1602 retin
I get may security patch OTA, I install it. All stock.
I unlock bootloader and flash TWRP
Take a backup of new rootless pristine system using TWRP
Root using supersufixer.zip and supersu.zip in TWRP, take another backup.
Now, my plan was as following
Stay on rooted stock, reap AdAway benefits and lower brightness below minimum(didn't happen)
Wait for Nougat OTA
When it arrives, follow https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4-play/how-to/guide-return-to-stock-firmware-recovery-t3551797 this guide but just skip flashing bootloader
Boot into newly flashed stock and proceed with updates
But reading your reply makes me sure that this process will possibly brick my beloved moto g4 play. So I should either wait for may stock build or Nougat stock build zip and not apply OTA when it arrives. Am I correct?
Apologies for being so verbose but I'm sweating. I don't like sweating.

I followed a similar path - happily remaining on stock MM with July 2016 patch level for the last 8 months. I block OTA updates by disabling/freezing Motorola Update Service (com.motorola.ccc.ota). Simple, effective, works.
Device (XT1607) is fully unlocked, rooted and rocking Xposed with a small but potent suite of modules that brings out the best in this phone. I'm in no hurry for stock Nougat. Will update in time once migration path is clear and benefits outweigh effort/risk. I lack nothing Android 7.x brings to the table.
Don't forget to take an occasional nandroid in TWRP; store it on the SD card or off-device. Can be a life saver.
Wait - what about that ancient xxx patch level? OMG!! I'll be pwned by evilness everywhere. Relax, surf responsibly....everything will be fine.
I don't like to sweat about mundane things either. There is no reason to. Many sweaty soles are self inflicted. Don't become one of them.

As Davey126 has mentioned, you might as well enjoy your ad-free device and treat your eyesight and not worry too much about getting the Nougat OTA. Besides, you'll want to wait to see if there are any pertinent issues with the 7.1.1 update (even with the soak test, some bugs might still emerge in wider deployment), which you may avoid if you don't need to upgrade to the newest patch
Furthermore, mods like xposed don't work fully on Nougat (rovo89 hasn't released an official xposed, and the unofficial builds are still hit and miss), so Marshmallow might be more for you if you really like to customise. As for being behind on security patches, I concur with Davey126 that as long as you're sensible about where you download and install APKs from, you should be in good stead. Security patches are nice, due diligence and being aware about what you're putting on your device is crucial to staying safe.
In other words, enjoy the flexibility of your rooted device and when the fastboot Nougat ROM comes out, then you can think about whether you wish to update or wait for any bugs to be ironed out. Alternatively, I'm sure someone will release a TWRP flashable build of the stock 7.1.1 (which shouldn't touch your bootloader/GPT anyway, so should be safe to use). Either way, waiting will mean you don't risk your bootloader or GPT and still have a device you can enjoy
Can anyone help on how to modify current TWRP to support encryption?
Nothing as of now. The support is dead.
Yesterday I tried rooting my phone by using almost every instance of magisk available on the web, but I either end up with a bootloop or Error 255.
There is no point installing twrp, you will only break your phone.
Only solution is never trust honor again in terms of development support.
SAME Issues.

Unfortunately, i'm regretting getting the H8P instead of the OP5. Kinda had a feeling this would happen but took a shot anyway.
Tried many versions of Magisk but all ends up in bootloop. Spent over 30 hours on the device, tinkering.
Best bet would be to flash Stock, lock bootloader and forget about SU . The only choice given how expensive the phone was to a common man when it released.
No more Honor or Huawei every again. For me or anyone who askes for suggestions.
I'm not that into android that i can jump in to help devs aswell. But i will try to stay active and support those who brick their device.
@anirudh & @shailendra1993
Sorry, but you seem both out of topic.
It seems to me latest official magisk is working on your device by flashing a patched ramdisk via fastboot.
Coming back to OP, the latest public TWRP available for your device seem to be there https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro/how-to/restoring-dukfullotaromflasher-t3741223But they may not support encryption...

Thanks ! I get constant bootloops when I flash almost all versions of magisk on stock Oreo 8.0.0.323 . I'm now using AOSP from open krin . 8.1 . Not the most stable rom, but I love stock Android. Definably miss a few stock rom features though. It would help if you tell us the version of magisk flashed and also stock rom version.
And the installation method you followed for magisk was patching boot using magisk manager and flashing the image via fastboot right?

Hey,
I followed those same instructions before.
From v 15.4, we can directly extract our boot.img , patch it using magisk manager and flash it using fastboot.
And it works like a charm. With data encrypted.
Thanks for your inputs

I come from an Honor 8 completely turned inside out (root,twrp,xposed,gravity,substratum,v4a,titanium backup, kali linux and so so so on).
Can I hope to get almost half of them on my new Honor 8 Pro? I would stay on latest stock B189, but If I well understand there are problems with TWRP and TB because of encryption. What is the state of the art we can get on Nougat? Thanks a lot.
