Data partition corrupted - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have a SM-G935FD which I rooted using Wondershare Tunes Go. It rooted successfully and I installed TWRP via Odin. But afterwards i noticed than when ever I tried to wipe the cache it failed giving a write error.
I decided to reinstall the original firmware and downloaded it from Sammobile and flashed via Odin. Now i can't boot the phone as it gives an error saying data partition is corrupted and I need to reset the phone to factory settings and there is a reset button at the bottom of the screen. when i press that it reboots, goes to TWRP but gives a write error and again comes to the same Data partition error screen.
I can reboot to download mode.
I am a noob so please help me restore the phone if possible.

[Q] Phone stuck at splash screen after Odin

I was using Rom switcher with Paranoid android and Touchwiz.
Then I deleted paranoid android and replace the recovery with philz touch recovery.
I wiped data and went to mount format system and format boot.
Then i put my phone in download mode and used stock rom.
Odin showed success, but the phone is unable to boot. I plays the samsung music and stops at halfway.
I tried waiting for long, odin again, I did wipe data/factory reset after odin too.
Now i am getting unable to mount /efs error too.
Please help me.
You will have to restore the backup of your EFS for recover ur phone. Then reflash the STOCK ROM through ODIN.

You need to wipe the data partition in TWRP in order to decrypt it.
wipe/format data/type YES
TWRP doesn't yet support samsungs encryption.
wiping data will obviously remove everything, so backup first.
immediately after wiping data, flash an updated supersu, or dm-verity disable
Flashing a rom over an encrypted data partition will do nothing to solve it unfortunately.

Unable to remove encryption

Hi,
I have a galaxy note 4 that isn't rooted but has TWRP 2.8.5 installed. I wanted to factory data reset the device, however, I was getting the error that it was unable to mount /data. I read on XDA that I had to format data. I clicked on format data and typed in yes.
I got the message "Formatting Data using make_ext4fs function. You may need to reboot recovery to be able to use /data again. Updating partition details ... done". I see the status as "Data Format Complete Successful".
I rebooted the device, and I know the OS loaded, but I was greeted with the error "Encryption failed, cannot decrypt your device storage. You need to reset your device to factory default settings". And a reset device button. I click on the reset device button, it boots me to recovery and runs a script and again reboots to the previous error.
I tried to factory data reset it now, although it showed as successful, I was directed to the same error.
Can you please advise what should be done?
Thank you
Any update? Thanks
Bumping
You will need to take your device to a Samsung Service Centre and let them take a look at it. However seeing as you have TWRP 2.8.5 there is a chance that they won't help you. What you should have done is decrypt your device then perform a hard factory.
Are you able to go to download mode and reflash OS?
My device is not rooted. Will I be able to reflash a new OS? Please let me know. Thanks!

No root required and it will not void your warranty and will not trip knox. You can download the the right version of OS from Sammobile site and flash it via odin in download mode. There are several guides available for it.

Can't root phone, verification failed everytime

Every time I try to root my phone weather through cf auto root or the method here I get the screen "Verification failed. Unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data." Even after I press reset it still comes back to that screen. Resetting through TWRP always fails as it says can't mount /data. The only way I can fix this is by doing an emergency firmware recovery through smart switch pc. I had my phone previously rooted with cf auto root then I flashed back to stock. Now I'm trying to root again and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm using all the right files for my device and following the steps correctly.
I'd appreciate any advice.

Yeah, in twrp remember to format data. Not the regular wipe data but the option that says format, you will need to type yes when you select it.

if you experience like this(verification failed) and you dont want to lose your date. just hold and press power+up+home, this will jump to recovery mode, and if you see installing update and got error, just press again power+up+home till you reach the recovery option. after that just wipe cache partition. the verification failed will disappear and youll have the normal system again. i experienced the same issue but i manage to fixed it after doing the rooting twice. i didnt reset my device. you dont need the emergency firmware repair. just wipe the cache partition.

Are you sure you're following the steps correctly? Try some of these tips:
After flashing TWRP, instead of switching volume buttons on the fly (requires dexterity and timing! ), hold the VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons until the phone turns off. You can then proceed to recovery by holding VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER.
Are you using the latest TWRP for your S7 Edge? Some older versions of TWRP have problems mounting folders and flashing ZIPs.
Did you update to the latest firmware before attempting root? Later Android versions become very finicky about device security, essentially locking you out of your phone.
Note that once your device detects that it has been tampered with, you won't be able to update. Download your stock firmware from some place like SamMobile and flash all the required tar.md5 archives through Odin (keep in mind: HOME_CSC keeps your personal data, while CSC erases it). If that doesn't fix it, backup whatever you can through TWRP and factory reset.
Did you enable OEM Unlock? Once you can access your settings again, if it is on, you may want to tap it off, then back on again. Sometimes it gets buggy.
You did remember to flash something that disables dm-verity, right? You may want to try flashing the dm-verity and force encryption disabler ZIP first before truly rooting.
i am having the exact same issue but i tried wiping cache that didnt work so i dont know what to do
Please Help

I don't mean to necropost, but this is an important detail for anyone out there having trouble with these "verify failed" messages. I knew I was missing something b/c there is an advanced option with formatting options that is not the same as the format button on the main wipe page. This did the trick for me trying to get my SM-G9600 (Chinese Samsung Galaxy S9) up and running with TWRP + Stock Oreo 8.1.
Big ups, @Florad77!
When to format data in rooting process?

When do you format data? Before installing supersu or after?

the "advanced" tab in Odin is primarily used for the PIT file in the firmware zip package. It is not advised to flash the PIT unless necessary. Often times, the "verify failed" message means that your bootloader is still locked or youre flashing the wrong file. Just fwiw.

Yeah, and now my Galaxy Tab Active 2 (Android 9.0) , can't boot. Only the Welcome logo appears, and resetting it indefinitely.

Wipe-/Data and Factory reset doen´t work

Hi,
My s7 got a little bit strange so there very heavy lags.
After this I decided to try a cache wipe.
Aftrerwards I thought i going on the over to the factory reset and this will fix everything.
BUT still it didn´t worked and the reset failed
The output looks like this:
E:format_volume: make ext4 failed on /devblpck/platform/155a0000ufs/by-name/US
Data wipe failed!
Afterwards I reinstalled the OS several times with ODIN.
Still stuck in a Bootloop and a factory reset brings up the same error.
Even a nand erase aswell as a repartition with the correct pit file leeds to the same error.
At the moment I guess the phone is dead and there is no more help.
Or am I wrong and there is a way to bring this back to live?
How did you wipe the phone? You can wipe with twrp and also with adb.
I wiped it with the standard recovery delivered from the Phone.
I tried to flash it a couple of times with odin but still ran in to this error..
Try wipe it with adb. Can you boot into stock recovery? If you cant wipe, make sure you are flashing the correct csc for your phone. So it has to be explicitly for your region and network operator.
