Reinstall os - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi.
New to all this and haven't a clue due to recent circumstances.
My lad, for some unknown reason to me, decided to install team win recovery as a way of trying to clean up his galaxy s 8 phone. He's wiped the OS!! Twr starts but when pressing recovery, it says no os.
I'd never heard of it before and haven't a clue how to use it.
So, after some googling, found out the basics and as I say, when pressing recovery or install or restart, it says no os so I presume he's wiped it.
Spoke to Samsung. They say they can reinstall the is if the rom is ok? I presume it is.
Think they can fix it? I haven't a clue and looking at threads on here about installing ROMs, still gobbledegook to me!
Thanks

It seems that you're not that familiar with TWRP, and i think you wipe off your system without any idea.
Try to do these steps;
MAKE SURE TO INSTALL these drivers first to your PC or latop before proceeding.
Samsung Drivers
1. download your stock firmware using SamFirm. If you're unsure of your model, look at the back of your phone. Mine is SM-G950FD. its important that you will download your correct firmware to avoid any issues with your network bands
2. download the latest ODIN app
3. extract the downloaded stock firmware. you should be able to get the following files: BL, AP, CP, CSC
4. Extract Odin and open it (or run as admin).
5. Locate each files with corresponding file name BL, AP, CP, CSC on their respective locations. BL = BL, AP = AP, and so on. MAKE sure that you select the correct files.
6. if your phone is on boot loop (power cycling or stuck at samsung logo), force close it by pressing volume down + power button for 10 seconds. If it is not on boot loop, go to the next step
7. go to download mode by pressing volume down + bixby button + power button. you should be able to see a blue screen with text like this.
8. plug in your cable from your PC to your phone, and wait for the ID:COM to turn blue. that means you are ready.
9. press start and wait for the process to complete.
10. once your device gets booted, your're good to go with your fresh phone.
Note: Reboot may take a while. try to force close it (step 6) and reboot again.

Thanks for the advice.
I've installed and run SamFirm.
Put the model in which is smg950f. Region UK.
In 'Phone' I've put Samsung galaxy S8, I've tried Samsung, S8, Samsung S8, galaxy S8 but I get the same error: please specify PDA, CSC and phone version or use auto method.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

How to WIPE without CWM / NO recovery / only download

Hey guys.
I have been doing a lot of researches before creating this new thread.
Here is my problem with a Samsung Galaxy s3 I9300T (Australia - Vodafone build). I was given the phone, since it was stuck in a boot loop after a software update issue with Kies (I think from memory 4.2 or something).
The phone boots up, displays the Vodafone logo, and is stuck on the Samsung logo. The phone doesn't restart but stays idle there.
It is impossible to reach the download mode with the use of the 3 buttons, but a USB JIB I bought on ebay does the trick.
Odin recognizes the phone, I can flash a stock Kernel from Samsmobile or root/install the CWM.
BUT, there is no way (so far?) to reach the recovery mode.
I tried to flash a new boot loader, tried to check any physical issue with the buttons, but nothing seems wrong.
I have been looking for tools such a android toolbox/toolkit etc, in the hope one would be able to wipe/flash the nand or even unbrick or whatsoever, from a download mode and not ADB, since I there no fast boot available.
I am ready to try anything, since there's nothing to loose here.
I'm running windows 7 from Parallel desktop.
Thanks mates.

I tried 2 different firmware from SAMSmobile, after flashing in Odin, nothing changes. The phone reboots (if the case is ticked) and stays stuck on the samsung logo, after the vodafone splash screen.

How can I perform what you call a "full system reinstall comprehensive of PIT image"?
I have stock firmware, but no PIT file or CSC or whatsoever.
what do you mean by losing EFS? (encryption ??)
Any help is much appreciated.

efs is a system partition wich contains your phone's hardware serial numbers, such as imei, wi-fi mac ecc... losing this means you can't connect to phone network until you restore it(i'm not sure you lose it)
i found this guide here on the forum to restore from brick's or similiar, i think you can try this if normal flashing don't work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/solved-pit-bricked-dead-problem-gt-t2535367
When you flash full firmware from Samsung (.tar.md5), it includes things such as bootloader, tz, modem, system, cache, preload and the recovery. Just make sure to download it from site such as sammobile, and you can check yourself if your .tar.md5 you're about to flash includes these things using i.e. 7zip.
Untick "auto reboot" option and flash it. After it's done, it won't auto reboot but Odin will change text to "RESET!", this is a signal for you that it's finished.
Hold on Vol-Up+Home+Power for about 7 seconds, until you see Samsung Galaxy S3 logo. It MUST enter stock recovery you've just flashed, unless your hardware is broken. From there you can select Wipe data / factory reset.
Good luck.

Yes this is what I did.
But after "RESET" doing it, holding the buttons won't let me reach the recovery.
Is there a way to access it ? like for instance a USB JIG allowed me to access the DOWNLOAD mode; whereas holding the buttons never let me.

I still do not understand that NO software is able to address the phone, like the recovery mode does.
We can flash from a computer, how come not to wipe from a computer.
assuming that someone has no screen or broken buttons, i'm sure there's a way to access wipe and/or access the recovery to flash a stock rom.
Thanks

Hey, yes I tried the link, but again I cannot access the recovery to flash the .zip file.
When I hold the buttons as soon as the logo "galaxy s III GTI9300" appears, the screen goes black and the logo comes back again.
If I release one button, the vodafone splash screen appears, and the boot is stuck on the samsung logo.
I assume, the buttons are working because of what I just explained.
But again, I cannot access the recovery.
Last week, for some reason, after flashing I has a "setup wizard" from appeared, and crashed. that was the only time. I could see the lights under the touch buttons coming on. After the crash, I tried to reinstall and couldn't do it.
I am still sure there should be a way to wipe the nand completely or install from the SD card via the download mode.
Any help is welcome

No better way on Earth to welcome you on XDA than a soft brick.
Long story short:
0. I hope you've learned your lesson. READ, READ, THEN WHEN YOU'RE SURE THAT YOU'LL MANAGE, READ SOME MORE.
1. You need your cable and a PC, on the PC you need the latest Samsung USB drivers. You can obtain them most easily by downloading Samsung Kies, it will install the drivers for you.
2. Download, for example, this: https://mega.co.nz/#!Ld03nbgB!N5xbTBnOKrwKmsalRrmLdBY-RF8-01YbNk2QpQEcj1k + Odin (for example, from here http://www74.zippyshare.com/v/18196321/file.html )
3. Unzip the file somewhere easily accessible.
4. Turn the phone off and put it in download mode (hold simultaneously Vol Down + Home Button + Power button), until you see that big yellow triangle and some Samsung nonsense about custom OS harming your phone. Press Vol Up to confirm you want to do it.
5. Unzip Odin somewhere, then start Odin 3.07.
6. Plug the phone to the PC with the cable.
7. Odin should put out a message "Added !!"
8. Click on AP and find the .tar.md5 file you extracted in step 3, and click Open.
9. Odin will process the file and when it puts out the message "Leave CS..." see if only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot are checked. NOTHING else. And THEN click Start.
10. After the operation finishes and your phone reboots, perform a Factory reset.
11. Go on with rooting and CWM, but check the Reactivation lock.
Good luck.

Support the devs that make unbricking, flashing, etc. possible.
And have fun with the Nope 3, the ugliest phone on Earth, but still I wouldn't change it for anything but (probably) a Note 4 with Exynos 5433.

SM-G360T1

Hello, I keep flashing TWRP with Odin but it resets when it's done and recovery does not change. I have tried several different versions of Odin and TWRP from their website and from here. Any idea what to do?
Which TWRP are you flashing? I recommend using version 3.0.1-0 from here, as version 3.0.2-0 has been known to have some problems in the past.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66266209
Maybe try making sure Allow OEM unlock is switched on in Settings-->Developer Options before you flash it too. Obviously make sure your device is being recognized properly by ODIN as well. You should see a little blue box light up in the top left of the ODIN window when you connect the device. Make sure you're flashing it in the AP slot and no other. Also, make sure you have the current Samsung drivers installed for the SM-G360T1 from here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/galaxy-core-prime-metro-pcs
Hope this helps! Have a good day.
I've honestly tried just about every version here and on the website. Started with 2.8.7 as a ROM I was interested in recommended it, however I am willing to use any that will work at this point I really only wanted my device rooted for one simple task.
My drivers appear up to date -
USB debugging and Boot unlock are both enabled -
Odin shows PASS and reboots my phone on flash -
Everything seems like it's working right, but it's not replacing my recovery. When I reboot it just takes me back to the warning/download screen. Is it possible I might need to downgrade to the original Lollipop that came with this phone first?
Edit -> I tried TrapKernel as well, that disabled my wifi entirely (on/off button would not stay in on position)
Edit -> Tried downgrading to the original Lollipop that came with my phone and it reboots itself as soon as it gets in to Android. Gonna try flashing it again before returning to current Android. :/

Pull out the battery after the phone comes up on the boot logo when the flash is complete. After that put it back in and press VOL UP + HOME + POWER and it should take you to the TWRP recovery. You do this because the phone will recognize that is not a original recovery, so it replaces with the original one. Make sure to put a custom rom with root in it so it doesn’t replace the recovery again.

Bricked S8s after software update.

Hi. Browsed for ages and always come here for answers.
Here's my problem.
2x S8s. SM-950f.
Updated to most recent software through software update. Both phones were glitchy and crashing and just generally irritating after.
Factory data reset etc. This did not resolve the problems, also led to one of them having issues with FRP (annoying)
Used Odin to try and flash the latest firmware (from sammobile, UK BTU) after flashing both, they reset and powered on. Got stuck at the S8 screen.
Restarted then both were at the "an error occurred during update" screen.
Managed to get back to download screen. Re checked the software and model numbers, even that the bootloader was the correct version etc. All was fine.
Connected to Odin, shows that it is connected, but nothing happens when clicking start.
Now after attempting that, both phones will not power on.
(One will when placed on the wireless charger, but just sticks at S8 screen) and download mode or reset screen can not be accessed. So, not exactly happy. And totally out of ideas
Any suggestions, beyond taking it to a shop to see if anyone can help.
yes .....dont tuch the phones for 24 hours let the battery die ...it will...connect to pc and then try download mode....u may need to press combination for like 1 minute to get to download mode....flash twrp reboot directly into it when odin says successfully .....wipe system data ....dont turn on phone download any custom rom flash and enjoy.....it will trip knox but worth than getting a new board....
Okay, will give that a try.
TWRP?
TWRP install
https://dl.twrp.me/dreamlte/twrp-3.2.3-0-dreamlte.img.tar.html: Download link for twrp SM-G950F (dreamlte)
Just said, wait until your device powers off due battery insufficience. Plug cable and hold at the same moment vol(down)+bixby+power. Then press vol(up) at the warning screen to proceed to odin mode. Let it charging a while like 1 h. Then unplug it and plug it to your pc. In Odin select ap the previous downloaded file. Take your mobile in your hand. With one hand, prepare your fingers to vol(up)+bixby and with the other hand start the flashibg process. Be careful, and take your hand directly from the mouse if you clicked start in odin, and position your one finger to power button, but dont click. If odin start pass, press immidiately the buttons (vol(up)+bixby+power) and let it to start into recovery. If you arrived to recovery, reply to us if not search for help!!!
Good luck

Not sure what stage your at and maybe some more useless ideas
1. Trying to flash twrp is kinda of useless if you can't get into your system need oem unlock for that.
2. Have you tried taking out Sim card and SD card and reboot.
3. If you can at least boot try smart switch as it has a emergency recovery option.
4. Trying rebooting in safe mode.
All been attempted

Bootloop after update and flash of firmware

Hi,
Im Matt, new to the forum. Pleased to meet you.
Im commonly known as Matt the fixer of everything, this is why I was given this Samsung Galaxy s8+ to fix. The story is, the guy updated it to the latest software update pushed to his phone. After the pushed update, the phone went into a bootloop.
The phone wont go into the options to allow me to restore, factory reset or clear cache. I can get it into download mode.
I tried a few firmwares before hitting too many errors, so decided to buy a subscription to sammobile to get the latest firmware, G955F - under the correct carrier listed on the phone XEU.
Here is the order I did things:
Open Odin 3.13.1
vol down, bixby +power - vol down to reject, then vol down, bixby + power again. (the phone wouldnt connect properly before and this worked)
Plug phone into the USB
place each file into the correct slot
Start
This would give me the progress bar, and flash with a PASS! it would take approximately 4m30
This put me into a boot loop again.
So i googled and found another option. I did the above but this time I extracted the .pit file from HOME_CSC and added that under the Pit tab and addedd the files for BL AP and CP.
Again, it successfully flashed, but again went into a continuous bootloop.
Im now stuck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. according to the phone owner the next option involves a hammer, and im not convinced thats going to help...
Kind regards
Matt
