Hi guys,
I have really huge problem! When i connect my htc tytn to charger ( wall charger or usb, same thing) it drains battery ! There is orange light like it is charging, but it goes from 100% to 0 in an hour! Battery works fine... 2 - 3 days... and because i can't charge it over usb, i am using nokia charger, cut the wires, took battery out and connect + to +, - to - and that's how i charge it for the last few days! Does anyone has any idea why is this happening? I have wm 6.1 pays rom i think it is 3.05
Fire Hazard
i warn angst doing this as this could over charge the battery and when a Lithium Iron or Polymer is over charged they burst into flames or explode and spread nasty toxic chemicals every where. if this be the case it may be time to try a new rom and see if that fixes your problem, try someone elce's charger if this wont fix your problem it may bet time for a new mainboard as these have the charging circuit built in
lithium rechargeable are compact high energy storages devices, and if not charged properly become dangerous
I had charging issues with my 8125 - it would charge with the charger, but when I unplugged the charger (it would read 100%, say I charged from 52% to 100% or something), it would drop really low to like 25% or 23% - sometimes it dropped all the way, and I could no longer get the battery to charge because my travel charger was 500mA and the original charger was 1A - it didn't have enough power.
I had to give it a boost by using a 9V battery and twist ties - touching the battery like you are doing here. I did it for 15 seconds a couple times, popped it in, and it had enough juice to start charging. However, I wouldn't want to do this too long on it as the battery got warm pretty quick and I saw a glimpse of smoke at one point.
After being cautious and not letting it lose charge all the way again, after a few charges it seems to have improved. It no longer drops battery power when unplugging and seems to work as it should.
Not sure if yours drops when you unplug it like mine was, or if it steadily drains while plugged in. Anyways, I thought my charger was just wacked, but it is working fine now after a few charges and being careful and keeping a close eye on things....I also thought it was the battery, but I ordered a new OEM battery, popped it in, and when I unplugged the charger that battery dropped and lost power as well. Now I have two batteries and both seem to work ok, but I did have to play around with them a lot and it did take a few charges before they started working like they should again. I'm not sure what was going on, because it couldn't have been the battery (I replaced it with a new one), and now the charger is acting properly.
Granted, this is all with an 8125 which is older, but there may be something in common here. All I know is it does seem to be fixed and it didn't require any additional purchases or replacements.
sounds like the charging circuits are wacked, this could be caused by dry joints on the charger "smart" chip, but a little heads up with Li-Ion, they don't like gettin wet, (sweat included) once they have been wet they become a fire hazard, (ultramag69 help me out here, remember that one you gave me that was full of mud?!?).
they also don't like going below their threshold voltage of 2.1v per cell, (i think 2.1 for now) after that the battery becomes a resistor and is not worth trying to shock back into life with a 9V battery, as these have a protection circuit built in, as well once in this state they become another fire hazard, it may be worth buying a cheap $30 butane soldering iron with surface mount attachment and just going over some of the areas located round and on the opposite side of the battery, every thing under the silver covers is RF shielded and not worth trying to reflow.
just don't keep the heat on too long, as you may and will desolder components on the opposite side of the board.
other than that if the charger is giving +5 volts respective to its ground, its fine, the difference between the 1A and 500mA chargers is the rate at which its charges the battery, slower is better for Li-Ion due to battery construction for the life span of the battery (if you get more than 6 months out of one your doing good by manufactures standards)
heck even try checking the phones USB connector, it may be stuffed or shorted
Hi everyone,
First of all, I apologize in advance,
1. Because I know this isn't a tech support forum.
2. Because I don't contribute and help out as much as I should.
Coming here was a last resort, I don't consider myself a noob, but I'm really stuck here.
Please note that I appreciate every single response, and I will donate if anyone can give me a fix.
With that aside, let me get started

Okay so about a week ago, I accidentally bent my charger when it was charging my note.
It didn't charge at all that night
That morning, I blew into the charge port on my note, suspecting that dust may have been the cause.
Somehow, that helped, as my note charged fully that day, in about 2-3 hours
Then I tried charging it the next night.
It charged incredibly slowly, reaching about 70% after 10 hours charge
The next few nights were similar, but reaching no more than 40% charge after 10 hours.
It got progressively worse, it would only charge if I applied pressure to the mini-usb,
I looked around this morning, and stumbled across another guy with the same problem
(see here http://www.galaxynoteforum.net/galaxy-note-help/charging-port-issue/ )
He advised,
"Well I have figured out the issue. If you look into the charging port slot on the phone you will notice a small thin flat piece of metal which inserts into the charger. That was slanted and angled downward which would not let "ANY" charger or docking station charge correctly also causing it to drain the battery. Contacts on this piece and the phone were to close causing a minor contact draining power. I used a precision flathead screw driver and lifted the piece slightly and now works fine"
So I tried that, and it seemed to help, as the note began charging, (extremely slowly, reaching about 30%)
Then I tried pushing that "thin flat piece of metal up even further"
However, I went too far, and I couldn't fit the charger into the charge port.
So I tried pushing it back into the centre but I may have damaged one of the pins in the charge port (inside the phone)
I seen a little spark, and the note turned off.
I tried switching it on, and managed to boot to safe mode (no idea how)
So then I tried charging it, I applied pressure and managed to get it to start charging. (thank god)
This was about 30 mins ago, it looks to be holding the charge at about 20%, but it's not increasing
-----------------------------------------------------
I suspect one of the pins in the note charge port was snapped off.. although I'm not sure.. (it appears to be the one on the right)
1.Does anyone know how many pins there are on the charge port inside the note? (is it 4 or 5?)
2.What should I do?
If I broke a pin, it should not charge at all, right? (but it seems to be charging)
3. Do I need to replace the charge port, if so, how much would it cost?
4. Would I be better off getting a charging station, and charging the battery using that
5. Should I try moving the metal strip again? (inside the charge port of the note)
oops forgot to mention, when the problem started, and the note was slow-charging, an audible buzzing/humming could be heard in the wall outlet
also, I'm using my original samsung usb charger, not a generic one, and I'm charging directly into a wall outlet.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it, and any advise that you do offer.

Here my tipp: You can go to a service center, maybe they even repair it under warranty. Or you can order a new micro usb port and replace it. Google should help you to find a seller. Depends on whether you feel comfortable enough to replace it yourself or not. Oh one more thing, I would stopp using your Note to avoid any further damage.

there are 5 pins on the charger slot, 4 I believe are for data transfer and the 5th being the one that draws power (charges the phone)
Have you tried transferring data from PC to Phone and see how that pans out ?
Its possible to replace the USB port, Ive seen a few threads about this on XDA, A quick search should chuck out some results.
But as mentioned above, Try to claim under warranty first, if you have it, or pay the Service centre to do it if you dont feel confident enough to do it yourself.
I think I recall someone with a similar issue and it cost him / her $60 for USB replacement (convert that in to your currency)
If you have a friend with a Note or a phone that fits the Note's battery you could always charge your battery in that phone and place it into yours until you get it fixed.
IF YOU MUST charge your Note ( you could if you intend to get a new USB slot) I would suggest to charge only via USB - as in charging from your PC / Laptop / TV / PS3 etc. As this will not draw as much current as it would coming directly from the mains supply!
Good luck on getting it fixed, And please keep us posted with the results !

check this out. It gives the pin configuration. I am no expert but hope it helps!

Thanks for the quick reply!
First of all, I can confirm that no pins are broken or bent, everything looks normal, it also seems to be charging better, as I centred the metal strip in the charge port.
As for warranty, well I didn't purchase any extended warranty or insurance, however, the standard warranty lasts 2 years.
Unfortunately
The Repair Warranty Exclusions are as follows: (i) Subject to the inclusions of the applicable manufacturer's warranty, a mobile that has broken down or is damaged as a result of: (a) abuse or tampering, (b) electrical damage, moisture, dampness, oxidation, corrosion or food, dirt or liquid ingress (c) accident, neglect, impact, actual or attempted theft, fire, power outages or surges, or incorrect voltage, (d) transportation or packaging (e) removable batteries or damage caused by battery leakage
Basically, the only thing that I'm covered for is "handset breakdown"
My phone is in perfect condition, and no pins are broken or bent (as discovered on closer inspection)
So do you class charging issues as "handset breakdown" or not?
I may purchase a new charger, just in case the issue is with the charger, and not the phone,
What d'ya think?
Thanks again for the quick replies azzledazzle & nipuna, I didn't notice them until now,
Yeah I'm 90% there's no damage to the pins on the charge port, and it seems to be charging now, slowly at least,
I've centered the metal strip as best as I can, (inside the charge port)
I'll leave it to charge now for a while, as I'm not sure if it's fixed or not
Then I'll try another charger if it doesn't work
If all else fails, I'll try getting it repaired under warranty
(although that's more of a last resort, as it will take a few weeks to get my phone back)
does anyone know if the standard galaxy s2 charger will work on the note?
I don't have it on me now, although I could borrow it from a friend
I know its an official samsung charger, although not sure if it's the usb or the other kind.
I'll let it charge for a while, then I'll try transferring data from the laptop, to make sure the pins are fine,
thanks for all your help everyone,
1st of all: if you go poking around in the usb port with a metal screwdriver, take out the battery first. Not only will it avoid shortcutting and maybe blow a fuse inside the phone, but it will also protect you from an exploding battery when shortcutted !
S2 charger will work

Alright, so yesterday, I went to Five Below to buy another charger with a longer cable than the official charger, since it's so short.
The battery was nearly dead (about 10%). I had plugged it in, turned it off, and went to bed. I woke up and checked it, the battery was only about 3/4 full (about 65 - 75%). This confused me a bit, so I checked the specifications on both chargers.
The official charger puts out 2 amps. The 3rd party charger puts out 1000 milliamps (1 amp). The official charger puts out 5.0 volts, the 3rd party puts out 5.5.
My dad said that's why it was taking so long to charge and that it will not damage the tablet, but will do significant damage to the 3rd party charger/transformer.
But did/would it do any damage to the tablet? I'm kind of paranoid about everything, as this thing is brand new. It has an uneven screen, and I'm paranoid that the tight case I'm using with it (which only latches on one side) is making it worse, even though it probably isn't. That's not the point though.
The chip that controls the charging is here http://www.summitmicro.com/prod_select/summary/SMB347/SMB347.htm. You are not going to damage anything throwing 5.5V/1A at it.

Ah, alright. Thanks for that link.
Your dad is right (always believe your dad, dads are always right). The device draws power from the charger, the charger does not force power into the device, so it's possible to damage the charger by drawing too much power from it making it overheat, but you are not going to do any harm to the N7. A 1A charger should charge the N7 but not as fast, it's probable that the one you bought is not really 1A, especially if it's a no-name Chinese thing.
You can just buy a longer usb cable for your Asus charger though.
Before anyone go crazy, it's most likely my fault. Since the battery is superglued to the phone I had to bend it pretty hard when I replaced the screen. And it was probably damaged
Anyway 6 month later my battery expanded and broke the glass back. There is a very visible bulge on the back (~1/16" thick), on a flat surface the phone wobble. I don't know when or how it happened, at some point I got the phone out of my pocket and it was broke.
I have a strong suspicion it happened while using a 2.4A/12V car charger at -25°C.
My real question (TL;DR) : Is there a risk using a 2.4A/12V car charger ? (my previous one was a 1A and it was barely charging the phone)
Doesnt matter what the current output of the charger is. The device has current limiting technology. It will max out at 1A so if your using a 2A charger your fine.
Also the car puts out 12VDC but it gets stepped down to 5V at the micro usb port. Thats the industry standard.
Now when you bent your battery you started the process of damaging it. Li-Ion batteries have a very thin sheet with paste on it and that is wound up with many layers. By bending it you probably flexed the thin sheet and that soft spot eventually broke and when that happens a chemical process begins to break down the battery. The bulging you are seeing is a buildup of gasses inside the sealed battery its self. When a battery begins to bulge its going bad. This can also happen prematurely if you expose it to over heating repeatedly OR for a long period of time, OR if you allow the battery voltage to drop to low for to long. Li-Ion just doesnt like heat or low voltage.
I concur with IAmSixNine you need to either replace the battery or get a new phone. And be sure to dispose of it properly. I had the same problem years and years ago with an old HTC touch diamond. The battery started bulging and I eventually had to remove the cover and use tape to hold it in. After a couple weeks it burst and it wasn't a pretty site... Pretty dangerous carrying around a battery that could explode in your pocket at any time.

Thanks, good to know that the charger can't damage the battery, I have purchased a new battery lets just hope this one does not explode in the mean time
Ive replaced the battery, the first charge took 8hour to 90% and now it wont charger over 50% is there a way to reset the battery limit ?

let it cycle a few times to correct the battery information.
That means let it die down completely, then charge it completely. Do that a few times and if it still causing issues its possibly a bad battery.
I think I also have a faulty charging port, only the wireless charging is working now, when I plug into any usb there is the lightning icon but it says not charging. I'll switch the daughter board with the one from my other broken nexus 4 to see if it fix the issue.
As much as I like my Nexus 4, I'm not impressed by reliability. In under 2 year, I've had 2 broken screen, 1 broken bake cover, 1 expanded battery and now possibly the charging port. My nexus S and Galaxy nexus with a million drop each are still working as new
One of my friends got one and broke his before the 2 month mark. He was ribbing me about getting a case for it and making it more bulky. I was not the better man...
I have the Samsung official wireless charger that I got with my S7 Edge. Was using it on the S8 fine for a couple days when all of a sudden it won't charge to 100%. Day one it stopped at 84% and this morning it wouldn't go past 76%. The phone is pretty hot when I pick it up and the LED is lit yellow the whole time indicating it's being charged. Did a search on here and it seems like some people are having some problems with wireless charging but not exactly the same as me. Anyone else have this issue?
are you using the original samsung charger plug that came with the phone?

No, it's the original micro USB fast charge plug and wire that came with the S7 wireless charger.
This one
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/mo...charging-stand-black-sapphire-ep-ng930tbugus/
Im using a QI dock myself. Works fine here. 100%
Now I do remember some of the Samsung ones from the S7 were able to support the "Quick Charging" function. Which was designed to get it super fast to "x" % then switch to normal charging. So its possible your issue is something related to this.
It's weird because it would just stop at a random number. Even taking it off and rebooting then recharging doesn't help.
I remember reading on the Chip Binning thread about some people talking about bad chip bins causing battery problems and you may wish to consider getting that exchanged.

Well last night it stopped at 87% so in half sleep rage I took off my case and had the bare phone on the charger. Later on it was at 100%. I also have my work keycard in the back of the case which I'm not sure if that makes a difference because I had it in the case of my V10 and S7 Edge and they were able to charge to 100% with the card and case between the phone no problem. The case is just a regular thin case from eBay. Also pretty strange that it would stop at a random number. Gonna do some more testing tonight.
I use a thin gell tpu case on mine, I have a Mikobox QI dock as well.
Now stuff behind the case, that "could" maybe mess with wireless charging. Never tried with stuff inside my case.
I have had this problem too. Wireless charging stopping at a certain percentage.
Worst this morning as I woke up to 8 hours on charge and it was only at 56% still saying it was wireless charging!
Thinking about trying the official Galaxy S8 wireless charger
I'm using the samsung fast wireless charger that i bought from when i had my s6 edge+
I'm using a tpu case on the phone, works perfectly fine
fast charge doesn't work without the genuine samsung charger plug however
Had my regular rubber thin case on with the card inside last night and it charged to 100%. Really don't know what's going on here anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Try an old lower amp wall wart with the non Samsung wireless charging platform. You will not have fast charge, but it will go to 100 percent.
Same issue here. It used to work absolutely fine and got to 100% every evening. Now it stops around the same amount every night. 80% ish
I have only noticed this since the last OTA update and its a nightmare. The phone is super hot and showing as charging wirelessly but it isnt. One thing I did try was to let the phone cool down and turned off "fast" charging wireless. Only when the phone had cooled down did it start to tot up again.
I have also had the odd warning saying that it wont charge any further until the battery cools down, which makes me think this is a "safety feature" that was implemented with the latest OTA rather than a fault, but not all of the time. It seems the message will pop up and then go away quite quickly (probably as to read the message I am knocking the phone off the "sweet spot" that charges it, so it doesn't feel the need to show me the message anymore)
Try letting the phone cool and then put it back on and see if the numbers rise everyone and maybe we can workout together what the problem is. That's my thoughts so far s that the phone is charging fine, heats up too much, stops charging, cools down, starts charging again, heats up etc etc.
Guess the end result of the story is. The S8 doesnt like to be "Quick Charged" via QI pads with the higher volts.

but it isn't, because a lot of people have fast wireless charging working just fine?
Update on my last post. I have fast charging off and last night I popped it on the charger when going to bed. Woke up about 4am to use the little bits room and there it was stuck on 81% as usual and very warm. Took it off the charger and went back to sleep. Woke up again about 7:30 and the phone had cooled down so put it back on the charger. By 9:45 the phone was at 100%. Looks to me like it is a heating up issue on mine anyway.
I get the problem too, the wireless charge of the original s8 package and use the skin case, when the first charge only up to 84%, after being released and cooled for a while then in charge again can finally be 100%, the possibility of problems in excess heat due to wearing a skin case or indeed a problem from Wireless charger, I do not know yet
Got the same problem here!
until now (about 2 months) im using allmost only Wireless charging (original samsung charger and cable)
untill today the Phone stop at 80% and its says that it still charging.. i took the phone of from the charger for about 30 second and put it back on charge and it charging ok...
Same problem. S8+ Exynos.
I'm using the wireless charger from the starter kit. Wired charging is fine and takes about 1.5+ hours from 5% to 100%. With wireless charging, the estimate is usually 2.5 hours but it stops at 80+% after about that time. Charging continues if I remove the phone and place it back on the charging dock after a few seconds. Having a case doesn't seem to matter.
Just now, it finished charging wirelessly with the phone off. It went to 100% but took 3 hours. I did check after 2.5 hours and it was at 83%. I didn't remove the phone from the dock.
ok so i've had this phone since 20/04/17
it's been perfect charging, until this morning
was quite warm, and stuck at 83% - had been at that level for a couple of hours....
weird
i had fast wireless charging disabled in settings>advanced>accessories - yet when i put the phone back onto the charger it said 'fast wireless charging'
i enabled it, put it back on charger. fast wireless charging again..
disabled it again, put it back on charger.. still said fast wireless charging !!!
so i enabled it again, put it back on the charger, went back to sleep for an hour and then it was at 100%
will keep an eye on how it goes the next few days

did you disable fast wirelss charging in your settings menu?
my theory being that if that were disabled, but still somehow fast wireless charging, maybe the fan wasn't on but it was still fast charging = excess heat?
