I have several question about custom kernel - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hello there, so i'm planning to try few kernel in order to gain better charging speed & longer battery usage.
Currently i'm on msm-extended rom with latest pbh kernel and i don't feel any difference in charging speed or battery usage (using stock charger). Opening any apps took so long too compared to the default rom kernel (darkonah).
I have never flash custom kernel before, so i got a few questions
1. Does it take some time for the kernel to fully adjust and have its maximum performance ?
2. Is it safe to flash other custom kernel when you're not using default rom kernel ?
3. Do i need to wait for a set amount of time before i can safely flash another kernel ?

1. You should wait for few hours for stuff to settle and for best results(batt backup)...do a full charge after flashing...
2. Dirty flashing your rom first then new Kernel is always better
3. Nope

1st of all let me give full software info about my phone...
Android version:2.3.6
Baseband ver:S5360XXLA2
Kernel ver:Merruk Technology ver2.0
Build number:GINGERBREAD.JPLA1
I want to try custom ROM
i focus on life time of battery and gaming;want to know how much RAM and internal phone memory each ROM consumes....
In my mind i have Creed's v3.5,Chobitsdigitalis v2 reloaded,hybrid v4,repencis v3.5
i need HELP>>>
waiting for replies....
actually depends on your taste and preferences,
the top 3 in terms of performance (for me) are as follows:
Repencis 3.5, USSR v4, Chobits v2 + Kernel
just try all of them,
you cant damage your phone just by flashing custom roms trust me,
also you can recover via flashing the stock rom again from odin
battery life is measured by how much apps run in the background and how your CPU uses power,
use a underclock kernel for best results,
@deathnotice01:chobits v2.0+kernel= u mean stock/Merruk tech/chobit's kernel?

[Q] Custom Kernel

Hello,
I use SM-N9005 4.4.2, Baseband ver. N9005XXUENC2, Kernel ver. 3.4.0-1168347, Build number KOT49H.N9005XXUEND5.
It's a rooted, stock ROM somewhat modded with Xposed, Android Tuner app etc.
I'd like to flash a custom Kernel which will allow overclocking, eXtended battery life and some other neat features I hope more experienced XDA community will recomend.
So, what Kernel would you recomend as a mix of stability and performance for my stock TW rom? I am fairly inexperienced in these waters. Are Baseband version, Build number etc important when deciding on a Kernel?
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

Try n3 by wootever, sneakykat and leankernel (last doesn't have so many features but is great for battery & performance) and my personal favorite ael kernel of course.
The kernels are pretty easy to flash just put on SD flash and wipe Cache & dalvik. So don't worry if you don't like the kernel just flash another one.
One more thing don't put two different apps for kernel settings (like Synapse & Trickster) on the device cause that may cause conflicts. Have fun testing

Is it really necessary to wipe cache & dalvik? I've read in several posts that it is not required as there will not be any benefit.

To quote Hacre, an excellent dev on other Samsung devices - wiping cache and dalvik for kernel flashing is like filling your car tires when the gearbox is ruined...

Thanks for your response. I've flashed the AEL kernel, recommended by you.
What are the immediate advantages I received compared to the default one? How do I get the most out of it now - what next?
Thanks for your patience.

That is pretty hard to answer cause I do not know what settings you prefer. (Performance, battery or a mix of both). Download Trickster from app store or set cpu (for last you have to pay though). At first I would try to set just governor and I/O scheduler. In the link you will find some information. Got helped not too long ago

No for Benchmark maybe but most of the time the phone will crash then.
Personally I take 22565600 as max and 300 min with intellidemand governor and deadline scheduler but every phone works different that's also why you won't find any "perfect" kernel or governor.
how can I flash the kernel I tried CWM to flash the zip file but it doesn't work please help me to find my solution

Doubts about undervolting

Hello guys,
since Google doesn't offer Android 6.0 for our Nexus 4 I flashed a current custom ROM (PureNexus) and a custom Kernel (Quanta V10) on mine.
Now I would like to undervolt it but before I start I still have some questions:
1. I want to make sure that I have a clear backup of the current status of the ROM, so that I can flash it back if something goes wrong when I set the settings on boot. The problem: I don't really know what app I am supossed to use.
2. Is it possible to deactivate some cores of the CPU?
3. Can I also undervolt the GPU?
4. Is there a better stability benchmark than Antutu?
I hope some of you can help me. Thanks!

1) The best way to make a full, complete backup is through nandroid. A nandroid will restore your phone exactly like it was if something goes wrong. Do this through your custom recovery.
2)On some kernels, yes it is possible. This setting would be found under the CPU hotplug settings in your Kernel manager if the kernel supports it.
3) To the best of my knowledge, Undervolting the GPU is not possible on the nexus 4.
4)I believe Antutu is the best one out there.
Just for your information, if you are undervolting for battery, you should know that it has been shown that you will be saving a negligent amount, and can greatly increase the risks of instability. If you are doing it for heat reduction, than I understand, but still please take it slow and be careful.

[QUESTION] Kernel and Rom

What is the best kernel and rom so far? that gives you a good battery performance that can take 4 hours or more then no drain while idle, good front cam and no lag
Thank you...
LOL, if you are looking for better/lengthier battery backup then a good kernel is what you need. I will suggest Emotion (seriously options are only one or two anyway) for that. Flash it, and then follow Senthil's guide for better backup, changing values in Kernel Adiutor and all. No offence, but I have NOT found a single custom ROM which is "complete", so I am using simply stock Odexed ROM, with the crap apps removed with Titanium.

G900f, All kernels are laggy in games in custom rom MagmaNX 10

Hello, i got a problem in a custom rom, i think it's the kernel, i use now the boeffla kernel, i love this fast charge, 2000A, but if i play a game, and go to the home screen and return back to the game, is it veryyyyy Laggy.
First if i restart the game, got i the complete performance back.
Have any ideas? or any new kernel with fast charge (ac)?
The custom rom is a n7 port

well the one thing i can sa you are using a kernel that 1-is eol and 2- was not optimized for ported roms , the only port i tested was Skiesrom 3.2 wich was smooth but leaned to much on perf. also i think this might bebthe wrong section to post this question since it only specify the n7 port and for sure Boeffla would most likely no put his time on a kernel from 6.0 since its already EOL , best ask on the n7 port thread for more help

Hello,
Hmmm ...
With all respect, sooner or later Moderators will remove this post from here as you posted in the wrong forum. Can't agree more with @ KazuDante that you shell post this rather on your custom ROM's thread as Boefla-kernel is NOT compatible with your custom rom.
Quote from Kernel thread OP:
Compatibility
Important: This kernel is only meant to be compatible with official Samsung stock firmware and nothing else.
So when the kernel does not run on custom rom XYZ, do not even bother me with it or ask hundred times in the thread for compatibility.
I could not care less about it !!

I have found the kernel of the roms thread, and i try now the standard kernel again.
Not optimized? i try now the skies rom kernel
The skies kernel is too laggy if i leave any app and go back into the.
I make a new thread in n7 ports now
