[Q] Custom Kernel - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I use SM-N9005 4.4.2, Baseband ver. N9005XXUENC2, Kernel ver. 3.4.0-1168347, Build number KOT49H.N9005XXUEND5.
It's a rooted, stock ROM somewhat modded with Xposed, Android Tuner app etc.
I'd like to flash a custom Kernel which will allow overclocking, eXtended battery life and some other neat features I hope more experienced XDA community will recomend.
So, what Kernel would you recomend as a mix of stability and performance for my stock TW rom? I am fairly inexperienced in these waters. Are Baseband version, Build number etc important when deciding on a Kernel?
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

Try n3 by wootever, sneakykat and leankernel (last doesn't have so many features but is great for battery & performance) and my personal favorite ael kernel of course.
The kernels are pretty easy to flash just put on SD flash and wipe Cache & dalvik. So don't worry if you don't like the kernel just flash another one.
One more thing don't put two different apps for kernel settings (like Synapse & Trickster) on the device cause that may cause conflicts. Have fun testing

Is it really necessary to wipe cache & dalvik? I've read in several posts that it is not required as there will not be any benefit.

To quote Hacre, an excellent dev on other Samsung devices - wiping cache and dalvik for kernel flashing is like filling your car tires when the gearbox is ruined...

Thanks for your response. I've flashed the AEL kernel, recommended by you.
What are the immediate advantages I received compared to the default one? How do I get the most out of it now - what next?
Thanks for your patience.

That is pretty hard to answer cause I do not know what settings you prefer. (Performance, battery or a mix of both). Download Trickster from app store or set cpu (for last you have to pay though). At first I would try to set just governor and I/O scheduler. In the link you will find some information. Got helped not too long ago

No for Benchmark maybe but most of the time the phone will crash then.
Personally I take 22565600 as max and 300 min with intellidemand governor and deadline scheduler but every phone works different that's also why you won't find any "perfect" kernel or governor.

how can I flash the kernel I tried CWM to flash the zip file but it doesn't work please help me to find my solution

serious problem with camera

hi
i've this problem with some kernels.. suddenly some graphical glitches appear in camera and also output picture
i thought it's because of undervolt.. but even overvolting didn't help.. what's the problem?
Like you said I think it's just certain kernel incompatibilities. I had the same problem with Google Maps on AOKP M2 with Ziddeys kernel.
but there are many kernels with problem to me.. and when i asked in their thread, no one had this issue..

Ok, I give it a try. To start it would be good to know what your current setup is. Please post Android version, recovery, rom and kernel.
And in addition are u using an app to tweak the kernel u're using?
tnx dude
this problem exist in most 4.3 rom/kernels.. it's there in all undevolted kernels.. but overvolting won't fix this..
it's weird,, my cpu type is fast.. it should be bear much undervolting..
i've edited twrp recovery.. and using FauxClock

not that easy to say beeing on fast bin chip should allow much undervolting. Obviously you gone to far and getting glitches on camera.
First thing I'd do is clear data and uninstal fauxclock and reflash my current rom (wipe cache and dalvik). Now back on stock kernel (most likely since most roms using stock one) with stock ramdisk etc. I'd try camera and see if it is working without glitches. Then choose the kernel to go and I'd use the related tweaking app (Faux kernel = faux clock, semaphore = semaphore manager and so on) and undervolting step by step checking if camera works in between.
Check your kernel thread you might some posts of how much people undervolted.
A little bit informaion about undervolting can be found here:

By overvolting you mean going over the default voltages? I think this could be indeed result in the same issue as undervolting to much. But just a wild guess and I don't know why to overvolt at all.
Applying the default kernel voltages should solve your issue...does it?

Most Bloat Free and Fully Optimized Custom ROM (4.4.2)?

Hey guys. I've tried out many many ROMs since the past week. But I can't find a ROM worth my taste (all ROMs are PERFECT don't get me wrong)
My requirements are (just) these.
1. The slimmest, fastest 4.4.2 ROM. Be it Stock be it customisable. I. Need. Speed!
2. Battery Life.
3. A Custom Kernel (speedy ofc) to go with it.
Current combination:
Nexus 5 Experience ROM by BoyKioy.
AK Kernel v309.
Dalvik / Bionic Libraries
Greenified
Thanks.. I would love to try out your suggestions!

Purity is the answer for all your question. Fast,Stable and with Hellscore kernel battery friendly. :good:
Most bloat free? Without doubt it is KitKalo. You can find it in android dev section. Good battery life with matrix kernel.
Pure speed v3? Haven't used it but from what I've read it's the fastest and most bloat free

[Q] ROM / Kernel Needed ~ Please Help!!!

I have had this phone since release and have been flashing ROMs and Kernels to it from the beginning. I mainly bounce on the ROM side from ParanoidAndroid to SlimKat to Purity. I tend to use either AK as a Kernel or a variant of Hells. I want to flash a ROM and Kernel combo that I can stick with (until I grab a Nexus 6 that is). I only need 3 things from any STABLE ROM / Kernel combination but they are non-negotiable in no particular order. Smooth performance, battery longevity and optimal audio quality. I would like whatever combo to be specifically geared towards that if at all possible. I am a junkie / flash addict and need this viscious cycle to end! Haha. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

yes.. Inbuilt kernel is good. or try ak.
Awesome. Thanks for your help. One last thing. Do you have any custom settings for the AK Kernel I can use? I see a lot of people tweaking and optimizing Kernels but never have myself. Perhaps you have something you could share. Anyway, I'll flash your suggestions in a day or two and let you know how it went.

[QUESTION] Kernel and Rom

What is the best kernel and rom so far? that gives you a good battery performance that can take 4 hours or more then no drain while idle, good front cam and no lag
Thank you...
LOL, if you are looking for better/lengthier battery backup then a good kernel is what you need. I will suggest Emotion (seriously options are only one or two anyway) for that. Flash it, and then follow Senthil's guide for better backup, changing values in Kernel Adiutor and all. No offence, but I have NOT found a single custom ROM which is "complete", so I am using simply stock Odexed ROM, with the crap apps removed with Titanium.

smooth and fast in nexus 6p

Wich ROM, mod, kernel or combination of two of them give me the best experience in android?? I m looking for an Android system fast, smooth and best battery life. Thanks to all
If something was the best, nothing else would be used as there's no point in using something that's inferior when you can get something better.
There is no best, I suggest you read each thread and pick one that suits your needs. Saying X ROM and kernel is the best is like saying a specific vehicle is the best...One may say a Ferrari and another may say an F-350. But who's right?
Some people like roms and kernels bloated with 1000 customization options filled with placebo "optimization and enhancements". Others prefer a clean, minimal ROM without all the useless bling that they'll never use.
P.S. there's probably 10 threads like these, and possibly 11 by next week that you could've read through. I'll just copy and paste this same post on the next one.

Currently using PureNexus nougat with ElementalX kernel. The experience is pretty good.
Using the phone for SMS/MMS, YouTube and web browsing. I can get ~ 5/6h sot with a full charge on WiFi and ~ 3h30 sot on 3g/LTE which is enough for me.
Also using custom CPU governor profile in EXKernel Manager helped me with battery life without affecting performance (at least not that I noticed). You can find more infos here:

Hope that helps
I am using the stock ROM with the ElementalX Kernel. Very happy with the performance of the phone. I arrive at the end of the day with 40% battery on average

F2FS + Dark ROM + FLASH kernel ! That's the best combination and I am a serial flasher
These people that are saying there isn't a best ROM, I don't really understand the reasoning behind this. There most certainly is a best ROM kernel combination. Otherwise all these ROMs and kernels would be exactly the same right? Sorry to say, some are better than others. This is just a fact.
If you want speed, smoothness, glass, breakneck speeds, great battery life, there really is one only choice.
Uber rom by Chad and faster kernel by Chad.
Why?
On f2fs, (trust me, you want f2fs) I have yet to find kernel or ROM combination that beats this.
Its the only rom that's built with GCC 6.3.1, and the only rom built with clang 3.9.1. Coupled with f2fs, this rom FLIES.
I have flashed every single ROM on this forum and then some, and I'm telling you this is the best combination you can possibly hope for:

Uber rom by Chad I definitely agree is the best. I tried using his faster angler but it caused problems with mods like viper4arise so I am sticking with flash kernel. Uber by Chad is definitely the best rom though and I have tried so many roms like pure nexus, resurrection remix, dirty unicorns, sixRom, lineage, cyanogenmod, nitrogen, Cortex and so many more.
Is the stock camera working on either Uber or Dark ROM with f2fs file system?
Thanks
There's no such thing as a best rom fact, but only best rom opinions, which isn't a good idea to ever discuss here. [emoji14]
As for battery, that all depends on you as a user to manager your battery life your way. I get 4+ SOT easily and I listen to a lot of music and text a lot.
As for what I'm using, I'm running ABC Rom with franco.kernel, root, and V4A. ?

I basically just wiped cache and dalvik/art cache and flashed the rom and kernel and all my mods. I also made sure to do stuff like rename audio effects and everything I did to make it work with flash. I use stable 2.4 deutronomy aroma installer. I was talking to someone else on this rom and kernel and he said he had the same problem too so it might be hit and miss or maybe you flashed it different than us. Please tell.me what you did to get it to work. Thanks
What partitions do you guys convert to f2s besides cache? Data as well? Everything else remains ext4?
Running stock has been great for me lately. Downgraded to 6.0.1 running Xposed for pixel mods. Amplify and greenify. With exkernel has been a great experience so far. Near 7h SOT yesterday. Will be going back to 7.1.1 soon, as the February update is out.. I heard lineage OS has good battery life. Will be trying that out soon in a few days.
Read the threads on XDA and good luck!!:good:
