No more Black Pixel 2 XL 128 GB Refurbs!?!?!?! - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

My phone got wet in the shower and will no longer charge with the OEM charger. It will charge with 3rd party chargers, but the moment I plug it in, it triggers a short and powers down the phone then intermittently charges, albeit slowly. I can power on the phone once the 3rd party charger is connected, but it charges at a snails pace.
So, 35 emails, back and forth, between myself and multiple google support employees (from March 26 through April 9, 2019) and I finally get the Advanced RMA going. In all fairness, I drug out the process because Google wanted to put an authorization hold for the original cost of the phone, which was $1,010.68 and I dont have any credit cards, except the Google Store card that I used to make the purchase (Google Store card cannot be used for RMA). I kept asking why they had to do an authorization hold for that amount when my phone no longer carried that value. I also pointed out that the newer 3 XL 128GB was recently on sale for hundreds less! After getting no where with my question and having multiple reps ignore it, I was able to have a family member put down a credit card and I asked the most recent rep to move forward. At that time, the rep asked me to explain how the phone stopped charging, so I did. In her reply, she tried to persuade me to do the Standard RMA as opposed to the Advanced RMA, and used my concerns of having a $1k hold on a credit card as a reason to go with the Standard RMA. She went on to explain that if I did the Advanced RMA and the techs determined that the damage was caused by neglect, normal wear and tear, etc. that they would charge me for the repair, but if I did the Standard RMA they would quote me on the repair cost and that I would have the option of having the phone returned to me if I didn't agree. My phone has been babied from day 1 in the same Tech21 case that is sold on the Google Store website, and is in pristine condition. I cant be without a phone for 2 weeks, so I reluctantly bit the bullet and let them put the hold on the credit card on 4/9. In hindsight, I think Google was trying to get me to send in my phone for repair as opposed to sending me a refurb because they knew they didnt have refurbs in stock.
Today I check the status and the order is still pending, so I go through chat to ask what the delay was. At first, I was told that they are awaiting authorization from my bank -- I called BS, because the moment I submitted the replacement order, the card holder received a notification of the charge amount. After explaining that, I was asked to wait while he got in touch with the shipping department. He eventually told me that the item is not in stock and no longer being sold so my order would be cancelled!?!? My reply was, "It's an RMA. What the hell?" He apologized and said that he would give me a $50 credit!?!?! I asked what I was supposed to do with a $1k phone that wont charge that is still under warranty... no response... no offer to send me a different color, no offer to send a Pixel 3 in its place, no offer to have me bring it to UBreakIFix and have the repair comped under warranty, nothing but a $50 credit to buy more Google crap -- NOPES!!!
At this point, I have no choice but to seek legal action.
Folks, if you have a Pixel 2 XL 128 GB, your SOL if something happens to it. You may be able to send it in for repair, but will have to be without a phone for 2 weeks or longer. I'm most upset about all this because I feel like this was the best phone I ever owned.. up until the point that it stopped charging. The worst part about Google is that they really stick it to the customer after they get their money. The experience after the sale is awful. Some may have had a more positive experience with their RMA, but as of today, there are no options to RMA a black Pixel 2 XL 128 GB.
Please reply if you have successfully completed an RMA for this exact phone after 4/9/19, because this whole situation seems very fishy.

What a surprise... This morning I received an email stating that my refurbished phone has shipped... I hate to think the person I was chatting with is so dense that he had no clue what the hell he was taking about, but he was wrong about my order being cancelled.
If anyone else gets an RMA processed, post your experience here! I'd love to know if this dude was way off or if they made an exception and supplies are limited to how fast the repair techs churn out refurbs...

[Q] How long does Google hold the money for an RMA device?

So I received my phone on December 10th and already I had like the lamest issue in the world with it this past Sunday. I woke up and it just wouldn't turn on. When I plugged it to the charger, there was just a red light. I did everything that I knew. Nothing worked. Searched forums and no one had a real fix. So I contacted google and they're sending me a replacement. Fine.
The isn't supposed to cost me a dime (per what was told me by the representative), yet I'm missing $350.00 out of my bank account while they "hold" the money. Fine and dandy, but I didn't prepare to have a surplus of money for them to hold. I have some real big boy bills coming up that I need to take care of with my next paycheck on Friday. They've had my money since Sunday and I'm like broke right now... Brought in NYE without being able to do much because google has (is holding) my money.
Car? Repo'd. Credit cards? Suspended. House? Evicted.
But I'll have a shiny new Nexus 4 to show off at the shelter in six months when they decide to ship it.
Seriously, does anyone know how long they'll have a vice grip on my cash?
They'll hold the full amount of the replacement phone until the defective phone is returned to them and likely a day or two for processing after that until the funds are released on your CC.

That sux, didnt realize google holds the money for an RMA, most times I've ever RMAed a device they ship the new unit, then if the old one isnt received in 30 days they would charge you the full amount for the new one.
This is a common misconception. Google didn't take your money. What they did was to submit an authorization for the charge, to ensure that you could pay for the replacement if you didn't return the original. Your bank/credit card company, when they receive an authorization, puts a hold on that amount so that when the actual charge comes through, they can pay it without causing you to go over your credit limit.
In this case, Google will never submit the actual charge, assuming you do return the original unit within the allotted time, and eventually your bank/credit card company will release the hold and your available credit will go back up. How long they keep the hold in place is determined by the bank/credit card company, not by Google. You should call your bank/credit card company and explain the situation; if you're a good customer, they'll probably either release the hold or give you a temporary bump in your credit limit to cover that amount.
Just did an RMA a week ago using my Bank of America checking account, they held the 350 for exactly 3 business days, then the funds became available again. You then have 21 days from the day you receive your replacement device for the device to back in LGs possession, hope that helps!

Sorry but im a little noob in RMA terms, when you RMA, The replacement phone its just for use it while LG its reparing the Original??
Sh*t
Count yourself lucky if they actually have replacement phones available. I ordered a replacement phone around November 29th and didn't get it until DECEMBER 21st. They held that $350 'hold' on my account until well after Christmas because they had no way of holding off on the charge until my warranty replacement shipped. It was kinda sh1tty.
Ironically I did the warrant replacement because the headphone jack on my original N4 was extremely quiet - as was the replacement unit's. I guess Google wants their premier device for accessing music and movies on Play to have about half the volume of a Galaxy Nexus.
What if the cc expires while they are holding the money back?

The bank will honor any holds placed before it expired. Same thing if you cancel the card all holds placed before you canceled will be honored.

False, you can't just call your bank and say "hi, i want to cancel my cc "
I work in one bank. so....
For those of you that went through the rma process, when you ship out your defective device did you get a tracking number and is the package insured? im just worried that if the package gets lost of stolen during its trip back to google, then you end up paying for both phones?

Well my cc expired on 12/12 and at that point Google would have still been holding money back for RMA, but the device is on its way back, so what should I do?
Thanks!

Well, at the bank where I work (In credit card department by the way lol) When your cc will expire, we create another 1 month before the expiration day, and, when expiration day comes, the system transfer all your charges to the new one and close the old cc, with the hold ammounts, when the comerce charges the old cc the bank refuse the charge but, inclute it manually to the new one.

Update:
So, I sent back my Nexus 4 via UPS with their packing and they released the money... I was a bit late on my bills, but I did call my creditors and let them know the situation, so I was fine on that end.
I was told by the rep on the phone that I would hear something back from google within 5 days regarding my device. They would at least let me know the status and how long it'd take to get a new device. Fine. I waited a little over a week before I decided to give them a call back today because I hadn't heard anything. I am right now without a phone and I'm paying for T-Mobile's service. Not Magenta's fault and they still expect their full payment money on time, even if I only used the service for a week.
Anyway, after I called Google today, I was told that they'd figure out how long it's going to take so that I can plan around not having a phone. The rep was really courteous, so I have nothing bad to say about her. Low-and-behold, within 5 minutes of getting off of the phone with her, I get push notification on my iPad telling me that Google has charged me another $349.00! Now... Why this time? I dont have my warranty device or my original device! Why am I being charged now?
I called Google again and they don't have an answer for me... So, again, I am without my money because I didn't plan on having a surplus in my account to deal with Google.
This is like the biggest headache I've ever had to go through with getting a phone.
The sad thing is that I actually REALLY like the phone... and that's coming from an all-device-apple-user.
I just want my money back into my account and my Nexus 4. Is that too much to ask? Okay, I can wait for the Nexus 4, but can I have my money?

THAT was my understanding of this whole process. Now I hear from GOOGLE that I was wrong. The rep tells me now that.. "Why would we send you another device without receiving ours back? Then you'd have two devices in your possession and we'd have nothing." Does she not understand that they'll have my money in their possession? Like, the hold can turn into a charge and they can go ahead and charge me for their missing device.
That's how ANY warranty replacement has worked in my entire life:
Step 1: Call for warranty device.
Step 2: Warranty device is ordered and sent.
Step 3: Receive warranty device.
Step 4. Send back old device within allotted timeframe or risk being charged for the warranty device at full price and whatever inconvenience charge they company adds.
Not with Google, I guess... They just charge all willy nilly until you're dead broke without a dollar in your account.
Woke up this morning and Google shipped my device after a a long day of calling about this second hold and how it put me in overdraft. I was sent an email, in which I replied to them detailing my frustrations in a calm and courteous mannor... The next email I got back from them was a shipping email.
While I'm happy, that kind of leads me to believe that they are just being jerks about this phone. They just had one magically ready to ship after what I had gone through yesterday? I wasn't expecting nothing more than a "We're sorry. You should be expecting your shipment within 6 to 8 weeks." I wouldn't've even been mad about that. All I wanted was a timeframe so that I could plan around not having a phone.
This thread has gotten way off topic. I'm sure it'll be closed now. LOL!
THANKS EVERYONE.

I also work at a bank. If someone wants to close their card they don't really need to give a good reason(damaged / stolen work well), we will resend a card with a new number or the same depending on why they're closing it. Not sure what you mean by you can't just cancel your card, I close cards quite regularly per customer request.

But all hold backs will be transferred to the new card, although I have not yet updated my card number in google wallet, right?

Look, when you report your cc broke or stolen, then bank gives you other card with other number, BUT all the credit history moves to the new one, including the hold ammounts..

NEVER utilize Motorola support for repairs- A horror story

TLDR summary: Sent a Razr MAXX HD in to Motorola to have a cracked screen repaired with a guarantee that it would be done within 5 business days. For over the next month, I am continually lied to that I'd get a phone back within the next 1-5 days (depending on who I talk to), before they finally reimburse me for a replacement, well over a month later.
Full story:
I'm a huge fan of Motorola phones. My first cell phone after High School was an old school Razr, and outside of a brief dalliance with a BlackBerry Storm (my first smartphone), every other phone I've had was made by Motorola. I got a Droid X soon after release in 2010, loved it, and replaced it 2.5 years later when it was showing it's age by getting a Razr Maxx HD on release day. Totally happy with the Razr Maxx HD... until it accidentally fell out of my pocket onto a rock in a parking lot and cracked the screen. Phone was totally functional still, including all portions of the touchscreen, but it had spiderweb cracks on it so I figured I'd get it fixed.
I was excited to see Motorola offers repair services for things not covered by the warranty. motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/91148/p/30%2C6720%2C8579/kw/ said it would only be $100 and they can do the lens replacement in (at MOST) 5 business days. It's such a routine repair that they had a separate price set up explicitly for it. So on Friday 04/19, I open a case, give them my credit card details, get an RMA number, and ship it via USPS the same day. I pay a few dollars extra to guarantee it gets there by Monday (4/21) morning (and to get tracking), figuring it should be repaired by that Friday (04/26) and I'd have it soon after that. Meanwhile, I reactive the almost 3 year old Droid X.
Then the problems start.
Monday, 04/22, USPS tracking confirms that the phone is received at 9:50am. I get an email from Motorola reminding me to send it in at 2:50pm, 5 hrs later. I figured it hadn't been processed yet. Tuesday (04/23) afternoon, I manage to check the status of my repair (with difficulty) at their website, and it shows it hasn't been received yet. Their website ( globalrepairtools.motorola.com/serviceandrepair/device/index/en-us/trackrepair/ ) has a LOT of problems, working extremely inconsistently, hanging in multiple browsers and sometimes even putting me through and showing me the status of a repair COMPLETELY unrelated to mine (even though I made sure to copy/paste my own RMA number). Wednesday (04/24), it still showed that my phone hadn't been received, so I called Motorola support (for the first time). After checked the tracking details, the representative confirmed it had been received, but had not yet been logged into the system, and said that the original 5 business day timeline was still likely going to happen. Friday (04/26), still no progress.
Monday 04/29, I call back, they note that according to their system the phone was received on 04/27, five days after it had been delivered, and that the 5 business day cycle actually only starts after it's logged into their system. I was assured that because they had records of talking to me on 04/23 and the phone had already been received then, they'd expedite the repair and I'd hear from them soon after with a tracking number for the shipment. Fast forward a couple of days with the same story (promise of an expedited shipment), on 05/03 I call back again and get told that, Lo and Behold, they were having some further "technical difficulties" at their repair facility but the phone should 100% be done by 05/08 (13 business days and 17 calendars days after it was initially received by Motorola), and I'd get expedited shipping from there. They said they'd send me a bluetooth headset for my trouble (something I don't particularly need). I emailed in a complaint to Motorola at this point, and whoever responded to the email simply said "I could see here that you already spoke with one of our agents from our Repair Team. They assured you that you will get your phone by May 08. We'll just have to take their word for it. I'm sure that they will expedite the repair from here. Our system is doing some updates that is why this happened."
Fine. 05/08 rolls around and I still haven't gotten any details... So I call back, pretty early that morning. They tell me (AGAIN!) that they had some problems at the repair facility and now have no ETA whatsoever when my phone might be done (they don't have any idea what's going on with it. My personal theory is they lost it), but they can send me a replacement Razr Maxx HD. I was OK with that option, but the rep says it will take 3-5 business days until I have the device, though he said it was more likely to be 3 than 5. That puts us at 05/15, right around when I had my family coming in for some big personal events, and I didn't want to be dealing with this then (and I wanted a phone with a functioning camera, while the one on my Droid X was broken).
05/10, I get an email that the order for my replacement Maxx HD was being processed. There was no tracking information in that email, though it did say there would be tracking information forthcoming. Now, for the bluetooth headset they mailed me the previous week, I got the email with the tracking # two days after the headset arrived, so I figured this would be a similar story so I should call in for a tracking # (so I could be home to meet the device when it arrived). Monday 05/13, call and there's no details. Still haven't received any email by Tuesday morning, 05/14 (4-5 business days after my conversation early on 05/08, depending on how you count it), so I call again to see if I could get a tracking number, and actually get a representative who says the phone is in a box at the warehouse ready to be picked up by FedEx. They say a tracking number would only be generated once it was picked up (which sounded strange to me). I call again near the end of business on Tuesday and get much the same story, where a second representative gives me the same story about it being in a box.
05/15 (5-6 business days after the replacement was ordered, 18 business days after Motorola received my original phone for repairs). The representative I get this time says there was some kind of mistake the previous day because of technical difficulties at the distribution warehouse and my order was in a status called "booking", but should be shipped within the next few days. I will admit I got angry at this point, but the agent assured me he had contacted the warehouse and it would only be a day or two till they got through the back orders. Note that at this point, they set some kind of flag so every time I call I start out at level 2 support. Which would be fine, except level 2 support has a minimum of a 35 minute hold time throughout the day, so I'd already practically memorized the entirety of Motorola's hold messages. The representative promises to call me back that day no matter what he hears from the warehouse people to give me an update. No call was ever received.
05/16 (25 calendar days after Motorola received my phone): I call again, get told that the phone was through "booking", was actually "picked", and was in a box and ready to be shipped that day. I call in between spending time with my family (who I see rarely) and different events I have to go to. I ask whether they actually talked to someone at the warehouse and got a confirmation that it would be shipped. That representative says she doesn't have any contact information for the distributor against an email address (say what?) but she'd be happy to send them (yet another!) email. She offers to escalate me to their "executive support", but it's already 4pm so they've gone home. I get a promise I'll get called back the next day.
05/17 AM: I call again, get told that it was still "picked", but would DEFINITELY ship that day. I ask if anyone has heard from the warehouse, the answer is no. I inquire as to possible Saturday delivery because it's getting dangerously close to when I'm actually leaving the state/country on a trip that I will need a phone for (because I've paid for a micro-SD card that I'll use abroad and it's my only planned way to keep in touch with my responsibilities back home), and get told by the representative it's probably not possible but I'll definitely get a call back later that day. I have some events planned that evening where I can't touch my phone, so he says he'll leave a VM or an email with details of any updates.
05/17 PM: I get a call from Motorola somewhere around 6pm and they leave a voice mail saying they saw I talked to someone that day already so they don't have anything to add. (say what?) Then I get an email from Motorola that has one word in the subject (HOTDELAY), and it basically says "please call us" and a different number than the one I'd been calling. So I call that number as soon as I'm able, get through to a supervisor for the repair team. Oh my, apparently the distributers warehouse was having further technical difficulties! Amazingly, that phone that I had been assured four (or was it five?) separate times would be shipping "that day" all week, wasn't actually in stock! They won't be able to ship me a phone until late June at the earliest. Needless to say, I flip out, saying that's completely unacceptable. So the supervisor says she'll call corporate and get back to me on Monday (05/20), since they'd already gone home and wouldn't be in on the weekend. She promises she'd call me by 1pm on Monday.
05/20 early PM: Wow. Supervisor actually manages to call me back around 1230pm and gives me the offer that Motorola will give me a Droid 2 as a loaner phone until they get the Razr Maxx HD back in stock. That's right. Not a Droid 4. Or a Droid 3. Or a Droid 2 Global. But the phone that is FOUR MODELS out of date and as old as my Droid X. Needless to say, I tell her that that is not an acceptable option, and the only thing that I'd accept at this point is for Motorola to reimburse me in full for the cost of a phone. She says she'd look into it.
05/20 later PM: I get a call back from the supervisor. Corporate has agreed to reimburse me for a phone. Hallelujah! I ask a few questions. It goes like this: "Will they reimburse me for the full value of the phone?" "Yes." "Will I be reimbursed all taxes and fees?" "Yes, of course, we will reimburse you all taxes". I should have gotten details of all this in writing, but I didn't think of it. I almost cry from joy to finally get this resolved. I go to Best Buy (because they don't have a charge to return phones and at this point, I'm skeptical until the check is sent) buy a phone for full price (because I obviously don't have an upgrade available for myself yet), fax them the receipt with my case number, name, and address written on it, and move on my merry way. I figure I'll call them later the next day to make sure the fax was received and the reimbursement is being processed. I was so excited because I was leaving for my multi state/country traveling on 05/22, and I was relieved to get this huge monkey off my back.
05/21 (the 1 month "anniversary" of Motorola receiving my phone): I get a phone call back from supervisor lady. She is incredulous that I somehow thought they'd reimburse me for a brand new full priced device. Apparently she meant they'd only reimburse me for the purchase price of the original device, so they want my receipt back from October and will only reimburse me for $250 (and for none of the VZW subsidy that I got by signing a new 2 year contract). I can only respond that I never agreed to such an absurd deal and that there is absolutely no way I'd accept 1/3 of the value of the phone that I sent in to be repaired as reimbursement. She says that's the maximum they'd consider reimbursing me, and that me buying a replacement phone myself was my own problem and that I should return it. I request to speak to her supervisor and eventually get forwarded to their corporate consumer advocacy office. Talk to someone from consumer advocacy who says they'd look in to see what they could do for me and we'd talk again later that afternoon.
05/21 PM: Individual from consumer advocacy calls me back. Says there is no way anyone would ever agree to reimburse me the full value of a replacement device, just the subsidized price I paid once. He acknowledges that the device is valued at much higher than that and that I only got that price through a subsidy I (for all intents and purposes) pay back through the contract I'm still liable for, but he says that is irrelevant for their purposes. I tried to escalate to an even higher level of support and get this resolved, but he refused, saying there is no one higher and that I had to take what he offered or leave it. When inquiring about another option (compared to getting reimbursed a fraction of the cost of the device), he changed the story regarding their stock of phones once again and says more will be in stock on 05/22. He also personally guaranteed that mine would be the first one out the door from that shipment. When I said I didn't believe him, he said that given my case history he wouldn't believe himself either, but I had no other choices. He said they'd ship it to where I would be on 05/22-05/23. After numerous complaints from me about the absolutely abhorrent service so far, he (begrudgingly) attempts to offer me another bluetooth headset. After my frank refusal of that, he finally offers to ship me a $100 google play card. All this time, he just patronizes me with "I understand your frustration", and no real apology on behalf of Motorola.
05/22: I get a call back from consumer advocacy. It turns out that no, in fact, there was no stock that came in that day. They offer to send me a Razr M until they can get more HD MAXXs sometime later the following month. I refused, and say (again) that the only option I'll accept at this point was reimbursement for a replacement device, because it's been a month and I'm leaving the country for a few weeks and don't want to deal with this. He says it's not possible. I ask who could make it possible and get told this is a policy of their finance department. He refuses to let me speak to the finance department, but puts me on hold and (lo and behold!) he says that he spoke with them and got approval to send me a check to reimburse me for the replacement. But because they're paying the full amount, I will not get a $100 google play card for my trouble or any other reimbursement. I should be thankful that they deign to pay me back for the device I sent them (and they lost somewhere). I make sure to get this offer sent to me in writing later that day.
05/30: They mail the check. Only took a week. I was amazed. I got it a few days later.
Lessons learned: NEVER utilize Motorola for any kind of repair services. A repair that I could have easily done in 30 seconds (if I could have reasonably gotten ahold of the part without having it shipped from Hong Kong over a period of 2+ weeks) was not only never completed, but ballooned into a whole saga.
I've considered filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but I don't think they could do anything. I don't know what else I can do, so I'm also spreading the story to all the forums I know so people can be warned to not use their repair services. Would have done it earlier but I had the international travel and then a whole bunch of work to do when I got back.
Legal action for my time (I estimate I spent >20 hrs on hold/talking to Motorola) wouldn't be worth it, given that any attorney would charge more per hour than Motorola would ever offer me. To be honest, I'd have been satisfied if they had ever offered me a sincere apology, an honest update on the situation, or maybe even that (paltry) $100 that they had considered offering me but in the end took the offer back. I was over a month without a normally functioning smartphone.Instead, all I got was patronization, dishonesty that I'd get a phone back "soon", and a bluetooth headset.
If any of you are stuck down the motorola black hole, the biggest advice I can give is to call the consumer advocacy office. Insist you be transfered up there if you have to. They are also less than honest and less than useful, but they seemed to at least be able to contact the people that could do something. If they tell you something is not possible, don't trust them. Insist to find out who can make it possible, because it probably is. I'd post the number myself, but I don't know how much I'm allowed to.
Yup, this is exactly why I try to repair stuff myself instead of sending it in.
But thanks for sharing.
That's why I get the best buy warranty. 10 bucks a month but this is my 3rd phone. Each one has been free and taken no longer then a week.

Really sorry to hear it. We (Motorola Support) are just recovering from a rough patch in repair, and looks like you had one of the worst experiences. It's not typical of our performance and we are working hard to get 100 percent back to our quoted turnaround time.
Again, sorry you had such a crummy experience.

I was going to say I've read elsewhere of delayed repair times.
I am utterly shocked and devastated they were only willing to reimburse you for the subsidised amount! Who says you have an upgrade or access to one?!!
I am even scared to write about screen issues. My insurance company has a hard enough time keeping my model in stock and I can't afford to have $700+ temporarily out of commission.
Legal action... Maybe small claims court?
I would always remember never count on anyone for anything. You're bound to be let down and stressed. I can tell by the girth of your story you mean what you say.
It looks like Motorola read this. I'm shocked they didn't send you a free accessory or something to help compensate you.
I love this phone and its battery life and laugh every time my friends are tethered to an outlet. But all in all its just a cell phone and luckily you were even offered a loaner to begin with.
Fortunately this is not a story we hear every day and hopefully some xda members will chime in with their positive experiences.
Motorola please port webtop to this device!

That is by far the worst experience I have heard of so far, and by all means if the customer has paid for the device and can prove so, should be entitled to a full refund or at least give the original phone back so the person can find other less stressful means of repair. That is simply unacceptable and Motorola should be held fully accountable if they are going to brand their name on anything. This story makes me upset even gees.

Who said you were guaranteed to get it back in 5 days? Their website says 7-10 days after receiving it.
My experience with Moto service was OK. Not great. Just OK. I did get it back quick, 5 business days in fact. Their website and tracking are a pathetic joke for sure.
Like you, USPS indicated that my phone had been delivered but their system didnt show it. I contacted them and they gave me the same spill about the system having problems. I can accept that software systems can have problems sometimes so I wasn't to upset. I figured id give it a few days.
A few days passed and my phone still showed it hadn't been received. I called them and made sure (in a very respectful way) that i was very unhappy that they were having problems. They escalated my case and i talked to a new person. The new person gave me about the same explanation as the first person but assured me they would have it to me a max of 10 days from receiving it. Frustrated I accepted their excuse.
The next day it sowed as received in their system and that they were repairing it.
Two days later it showed as shipped. Funny thing was the "Shipped", emphasis on the "-ED", was for that day at like 1:00 pm. I got the notification that it had "shipped" like at 8:00 am. In addition to the fake ship date there was "NO TRACKING". I was thinking that those as shats marked it as shipped to appease me.
I was about ready to call them again but gave them a chance to make good. Then the next day it showed up all nice and shiny.
They did a good job repairing it. They replaced the whole frame, not just the glass. I know because there was a noticeable scuff on the top right corner that is no longer there.
This was actually for my sisters phone. She borrowed mine because here work requires here to have a phone. Anyway, she might not get it back. :cyclops: Ive quite enjoyed it the last few days.
That's horrible!
Good thing I saw this, I'll keep your experience in mind for if I ever need to get anything on my phone repaired. I can't believe you went through that much trouble. I quite am disappointed with Motorola at this moment.

My experience with ASUS RMA - takes 3 days to charge

I'm currently going through the RMA process right now and decided to make a thread for what I'm encountering in the case that anyone finds some of the information useful.
A few weeks ago I started the RMA process. The problem is that my device does not charge normally. It takes 3 (or even more) days to fully charge the battery when plugged into A/C. this problem arose about 4 months after purchase, but I waited about a month before the RMA as I waited for an Android OS update and gave a try all the remedies found on the internet,
Starting the RMA was easy! My online representative was helpful and quick. this really caught me off-guard as I was expecting terrible service. I'm quite pleased how well the process went.
After sending back the device, I kept an eye on the online RMA service tracker. After a couple days of watching the status, a "Waiting" status appeared between "Received" and "Repairing". I thought this was odd, but figured it just meant that the job was added for a tech's queue.
After a few more days I contacted an online representative using the chat window through the ASUS website. Terrible experience. The rep was veeerryyy slow. They did not bother to say anything like "please wait a moment while I look that up". Nothing - just long periods of zero communication. Eventually (about 45 minutes) I gathered useless information from the rep. They stated that I needed to wait a couple weeks as an email was being prepared to let me know about some out-of-warranty damages that I would be invoiced for.
That's all the info the rep had. No details, No good reason for why the email takes weeks. Nothing.
The chat window eventually timed out and I filled out their survey. Needless to say, my comments were not very cheerful.
I checked my email daily for about a week and no updates. Over the weekend I was going to contact a rep online again, but decided to check through email just once more and sort through my spam mail folder too. Sure enough - ASUS did send the email right into my spam folder. It took them 6 days and I have no idea why it was received as 'spam'. All of their other emails go to my inbox so if you ever do an RMA, keep an eye on your junk mail.
The email I received is an Invoice for $100. The paragraphs of text indicate that there is out-of-warranty repairs required. In parenthesis is says (broken LCD), however I believe that is just for example. My Nexus was in perfect external condition, wrapped and boxed with inches of padding by the people at the UPS store, and I had insurance as well. I would HOPE that if the display cracked, then ASUS would have notified me so I could file an insurance claim.
Anyway, the itemized list on the invoice shows $10 shipping, $25 labor, and $65 for a USB cable sub-board.
My assumption is that they found the internal charging board to be faulty - this totally makes sense given the fault issues.
ASUS also attached a picture of a charge cable... thanks for the pic I guess? I can't even try to guess what they sent that for.
They are asking to receive payment just 4 days (Jul 25) after sending the email (invoice dated Jul 21) or they will send it back un-repaired shortly after (Jul 28)!
Yesterday (Jul 21) I wrote in a dispute asking how the sub-board is not covered under warranty.
Hopefully ASUS handles their disputes quickly and they don't ship back to me first =/
Today my invoice is tagged, with a red ribbon on the top saying "disputed".
The dollar amount still, shows at $100 and I haven't received anything to say somebody is working on my case.
Hopefully I get something soon.

Yikes, weeks!?!?! I have a N7 2013 which I just RMA'ed, and they have it marked received on their tracker Tuesday, July 22 (it was delivered by USPS Monday morning, Jul 21).I bought the device remanufactured with a 90 day warranty and only had the device for less than 24 hours before it randomly reboot in the middle of a game, and put me at the Google screen, and will go no further. I could get into the Bootloader, but selecting recovery takes you back to the Google screen. System image would not restore it either......that said, I called Asus and they told me that it should take 5-7 days on the phone.
Currently, my status says this: Product Received > (Waiting) > Repairing > Final Testing> Packing > Ready for Shipping > Repair Finished
Is this what you were stuck at as well? I was really hoping that it would be just a few days like they said and not weeks

That's exactly where I'm stuck at!
[email protected] - thank you for actually reading my post! I am not completely disappointed at this time. I understand the challenges of a large corporation call center so I'm going to try a little more patience and have some faith in the system. If all works out well, then hopefully my post here just shows the RMA system to be a little quirky, but still turn around great service results. Maybe then my post could be used for possible improvements by ASUS to relieve some of the quirky issues?
So, I received an email yesterday (7:00 am) saying that my invoice payment was due. This troubled me because my invoice was tagged as "disputed" which I figured should stop the invoice process until the the dispute is settled.
I contacted support in the chat window again and it was the service rep was so much better to talk with. Friendly and quick to respond. They even let me know when there was going to be a delay in chat as they had to look up my invoice.
Unfortunately, the rep was as clueless as I am for why the RMA was stopped for "out-of-warranty" work. At first, they thought there might be some sort of screen damage (as I mentioned before, the paragraph had 'screen damage' in parenthesis), but since the itemized quote didn't include anything about screen repair, they really didn't know what was going on.
The said I should be receiving another email in the next few days and confirmed that the invoice billing and un-repaired return shipment would be delayed since I filed the dispute.
Later (3:00 pm) I received another invoice quote email for the $100. When I click on the link to view the invoice PDF (stored on ASUS's website) it goes to an error page stating that the invoice is no longer available.
Uhhh... ok?
I went back to my previous invoice emails and tried those links - the invoice is now gone.
With a little excitement in my veins, I thinking that maybe my dispute was closed and repairs would commence.
I headed over to the RMA status and, unfortunately, the status is still showing "Product Received > (Waiting) > Repairing > Final Testing..."
No new emails regarding the invoice nor the status have been received.
I figure I will wait another day and see if anything changes.
Nothing changed over the last few days so I got on with another chat window. This went very quick and it looks like ASUS is handling it!
"Thank you for the response. It appears that the notes from the Tech were misinterpreted by the agent. This repair will be covered under the warranty. You can disregard this quote and I will have them resume repair right away. Please be advised that repair takes approximately 3-5 business days (excludes backorders & transit time). Once the repair is complete and the unit is processed to ship our automated system will email you the tracking info."
When I check my RMA, it still says "Product Received > (Waiting) > Repairing > Final Testing> Packing > Ready for Shipping > Repair Finished"
The rep said his screen showed that is has reached "repairing". Maybe something isn't syncing properly with what they see to what I can see.
Okay, so I got my RMA back from Asus, and while it sucked to be without my new Nexus 7 2nd Gen for almost 2 weeks, I cannot fault Asus. I called the Service line, Operator was friendly, courteous, and fluent in English. She opened the RMA. I mailed it in, they received on 7/22, and while it did take a while for the tracking site to update initially,, ultimately, they fixed my device, and mailed back to me on 07/25, and I received about 4 days later. The packing slip said it was a LED Indicator Failure, and they replaced some circuit board I believe (the slip had the part number they replaced). It was all under the 90 day refurb warranty, so it was zero out of my pocket. All in all, much less painless than I thought. The only cost to me was the $6 bucks to mail USPS to them. :good::good:
I'm still waiting on this to resolve.
I contacted ASUS today. I have nor received any further emails.
RMA status is still "Product Received > (Waiting) > Repairing > Final Testing> Packing > Ready for Shipping > Repair Finished"
Repair status now says "Product repair is in progress.-[WF5] Wait for Customer Confirmation-SWAP"
Customer service rep says that last week they decided it was irreparable and I should be receiving a new Notebook (I assumed he meant tablet).
They said they have escalated the case directly with the Service Center and requested an update of Tracking Number for the replacement Notebook.

James, I found out that top line never changes, it is the bottom one which says "Product Repair is in Progress" which is where the update actually is. I think that top line is just a "Guide" to let you know the steps of the process. When mine went to "Repair is in Progress" it showed completed and shipped the next day. Good luck with that, hopefully they get it back to you soon.
Finally got the tablet back yesterday! It was shipped with just 40% battery charge so it made it easy to verify if the charger issue had been fixed. I'm not sure if I'm worried or not. The first thing I did was plug it in to the wall and check to see if it would charge. Right when I plugged it in, the wall adaptor made a little pop sound, but I wasn't concerned. I came back 10 min later and the adapter was HOT so I unplugged, let it cool, and tried again. It seems to be working fine now so I don't know what was up with that. Neexus 7 is all cherged up and all is well =)
ASUS should probably do some improvements to their RMA site. For some reason, the bottom set of comments now shows two lines of information for the repair items being complete complete. The information shows the serial number and dates from which they received the unit and completed repair. It also shows the UPS tracking number from when I sent the tablet to them. It would seem to make a LOT more sense if the second line included the FedEx tracking number associated to their shipment to me, but it doesn't.
The RMA page hasn't been very useful through the whole experience so I'm really not surprised.
Exact same issue with the tablet and exact same reply from ASUS
Hi
I also have the same issue with my tablet. After charging for 3 days, it will just charge for 20%. Contacted ASUS, went through the same RMA process. Surprisingly, I got the same invoice/quote (including the exact words) for $100. I feel it is a known issue and ASUS is intentionally avoiding to perform the repair it under warranty and simply wants the customer to bear the expenses. I spoke to customer support and they are claiming mine is physical damage. What the hell! How can I damage something inside the tablet without even having single scratch on the outside.I am absolutely sure there is no physical damage on my device. Anyways, I disputed the quote/invoice and hopefully something will happen.
In any case, I am thinking it is better to refrain from buying any ASUS products (this is my first one though). I think they have dubious warranty policy with some very fine print.
I am posting this issue because people might read this and be aware that there is a known issue NEXUS 7 tablet and take appropriate steps.

Nexus 7 - charging issue
Hi All
Here I am with the final update.
After several days of emailing/following-up (thanks to Scott, atleast I got to know the updates), ASUS has decided that the charging port has been damaged due to mishandling and the repair is not covered. I already posted a question back asking, if the charging port is damaged, it should not charge at all. My complaint/issue was very slow charging. I am guessing, ASUS would come-up with some new explanation now.
Anyways, I am not very optimistic about my chances of getting the repair done under warranty, but I want to caution people who are reading this post about the durability of the NEXUS 7 tablet/rather I may suggest ASUS products itself. I have never abused the tablet in anyway nor have I used any wrong chargers/usb cables. But still it looks like they are claiming the charging port is damaged.
I will keep this forum posted for any further updates.

Final Update on Nexus 7 - Paid $100 for a tablet in Warranty....
So, finally I gave-up and paid the $100 for tablet that is under warranty.
My Crime: I damaged the charging port as per ASUS (What the heck?). I just charged the tablet multiple times and that's it. They are claiming physical damage by showing me some picture.
My humble request to users of NEXUS 7. Please charge your tablets carefully, better don't charge at all. Then it will not be physical damage. Or much better, stay away from ASUS products.
Regards
Ravi
They sent some vague photograph (I couldn't really make out anything from it though).

I experienced the exact same thing as you, except my Nexus wouldn't charge AT ALL. I got back the same garbage of a response just today, also weeks after it was sent in. To top it all off, the rep who setup our RMA told us that we would cover the cost to ship it to ASUS and they would cover the cost to ship it back, but as you've noticed, they want ME to pay the return shipping too.
So let me understand this:
The part in question is internal (not a broken screen, button, etc.)
The part is one that ASUS decided to put into the Nexus
The part broke, though no negligence of my own, just decided not to work one day.
How is the customer responsible for that?
I guess if tomorrow ASUS just decided it wasn't going to cover faulty batteries, broken MOBOARDS, etc. we'd all have to pony up for that fault too....
I also filed a dispute, as I have ZERO intention of paying HALF the original cost of the Nexus to fix a problem that, by all rights, SHOULD be covered under warranty (for whatever their warranty is worth, I guess). If ASUS decides they don't have any desire to stand by their product, then I'll be quite happy to spend my money on a competing product next time.
What was the final outcome, if you don't mind me asking?
Disappointed Asus Warranty Service
I bought an Asus X-205TA machine last year, after about 10 month usage. The machine began to have some part of screen dark without display. The screen glass is perfect and since it is so light. it is so easy to carry around. I loved the machine, take good care of it.... no way of drop etc
The screen had more problem for another 3 to 4 weeks and then it can not display, Called Asus, after some phone conversation, they decided to issue RMA and ask me to ship the machine back. Over the phone, they told me that I should pack the machine and ship the machine by myself( this is contrast to many other vendor RMA and warranty). And I asked do I need to pay the shipping back.... Clearly the person answered me stated three times over our conversation that Asus will pay the shipping back.. I am not responsible for the shipping back. and if there is anything that I need to pay that is not covered, they will call me to discuss.
After they received 4 days, I got an email for invoice to ask me to pay for $320 for LCD and $10 for shipping back(And a brand new Asus X-205TA is less than $200 now, it will be insane to pay $320 ) . Nobody called me
Online and this forum, there are tons of Asus tablet LCD experience issue under normal usage. Asus admitted the issue and repaired for them. for me, if the LCD is not working now under 10 month normal usage... and the machine is 11 inch using same LCD as the tablet. same problem. I do not know why they simply decline? If they decline, they should just decline to issue RMA.
1. If the machine is under normal usage and screen is perfect, no any physical damage trace. How can a LCD issue be claimed as physical damage and be declined from warranty service?
2. There are tons of Asus tablet LCD problem under normal usage online and Asus admited the LCD problem and replaced the LCD under warranty. The X-205TA is 11.6 tablet type machine. using the same LCD as the tablet. How can this be different?
3. When customer service issued the RMA, made it clear that I pay the shipping to ship back the machine and Asus pay to ship it back. How can they now charge me to ship it back? --- Do they honor their own promise?
I was considering to purchase an Asus 15.6 machine in the holiday season, now I think I need to reconsider some other brand.. I am very disappointed with this warranty service....

Asus support and RMA experience - worst I ever dealt with

After having the Asus tablet for couple months, I decided to use the MicroSD card. Bought a brand new card, put it in and everything worked. Two weeks later, take the card out to copy more movies onto it then put it back in. NO, the card won't seat any more. Every time I push it in, it will pop right out.

Opened support ticket with all the information. The first thing that the support person said is that my product is out of warranty. I have to upload my receipt three times to different places to proof that it is under 1 year. After all the effort, he opened a RMA request and ask me to send the tablet for repair. I have to pay for the shipping in though. Since there is no other choices, I packed it and send it in the next day.

After ~three weeks of no update, they sent an email to me asking for $135.94 to get the tablet fixed. I have to contact the support again. Again, first thing they did is tried to get rid of me by telling me that RMA is different department and they cannot even open the URL sent by the RMA department to look at the details. Fine, I copied and pasted everything from that site for them since I have internet access (maybe too many employees in Asus look at porn site during work hour so that they blocked everything and accidentally blocked their own RMA vendor site?). The support (Ainsley) told me that it is under warranty and just dispute the charge - try to get rid of me again here. I did the dispute then I noticed that in the email, it said "damage to the motherboard is not covered under the ASUS manufacturer warranty". So I asked the support again what that means. Now they changed to "sorry, if that is the case, we cannot get it fixed unless you pay for it". The next question I had is "if you know the card reader is on the motherboard which is not covered by the warranty in the first place, why ask me to pay for the shipping to send it in?". I have to ask that question literally 20 times to get an answer - "so it can be serviced". I assumed that means "so they can charge me $135.94 for a $70 tablet". I guess I have to leave it for them to do whatever they want at this point. I am totally done with Asus.
I hope you will stay away from Asus after reading this. Unfortunately, I also own a Nexus 7 which stopped auto-rating (accelerometer and gyroscope are broken) after 1 year of light use. This is definitely not a good quality brand.
This thing is so cheap, just purchase a new one not bother to repair
Got the item shipped back to me. Cannot even turn on now. What a piece of crap.

Ridiculous Google Pixel RMA Experience

Hello,
I've owned a pixel device for about 2 months now and had started to experience issues with the battery life, standby battery drain and phone shutting off at about 20 percent each time. So I call up google support and explain these issues to them. They agree to replace the device for me. Having purchased the device from a retailer other than google I did not have the option to advance RMA and had to go with the standard one.
On 15th of Feb, I received a mail with shipping labels and other RMA details. On 22nd Feb I send in the phone which they received on 27th. Google is yet to acknowledge this through any mail but their support team over the phone assured me that the phone was received.
Initially, I was promised that a new or refurb phone will be dispatched immediately after the tracking details were updated. Google never met this expectation and so I call them up regarding the same and I was told that it could take 5-10 days for them to process the RMA. At this moment I requested them if they could do anything to expedite the process but they responded negatively every time and told I have no option but to wait which by the way is still the same answer I get every time I call them.
After 10 days passed I hadn't yet received any mail or updates regarding the new device, so I call them up and question the same to them, to which they replied that they need to escalate the case and that it would take them another 48 hrs to resolve the issue. It has now been 4 days since and google still has no idea where my old or the new phone is and they tell me to have patience and wait for the back end team to reply. I must have now spoken to at least 10 representatives and they all give me the answer that nothing can be done about it and that make me feel as if I shouldn't have gone in for the RMA in the first place. I've even requested them to send me back my old faulty unit but refuse to do even that as they don't have the authority to do that.
After reading online, I wasn't shocked to find that am not the only one who has faced such an issue. But what shocked me was that the person hadn't received a device for 50 days and was going to court to file a complaint. Am scared that I don't become a victim of poor google after sales service and have to go to the extent of going to the court.
Edit : - Ok. So I've just gotten off the phone with another representative and he has informed me that I should wait for at least another 48 hrs. So that makes the total turn-around time of about 20 days. That is if they happen to resolve the issue this time.
About two weeks ago I RMA'd my wife's Google Store Pixel (it had the dead-mic-and-speakers disease), and it was smooth as silk.
Refurb was immediately shipped to me via Fedex 2-day, and as expected they placed an auth against my credit card for the cost of the replacement. I shipped back the defective unit three days after I received the refurb.
I like the part where they say in order to get a replacement phone you need to enter your card info, but you wont be charged....just a hold of some sort. So, you enter your card info, submit the order and then they charge you the entire $700+. So you're out of a ton of money until they decide to give it back. You'd think as soon as they receive the old phone they will release the funds back to your account, but before I even received the new phone,4 days later, they gave me my money back. I didn't even send them the old phone, so WTF was the big idea in holding my money if they were just going to give it back before even receiving the old phone? I read about another guy who experienced the same thing and he had to call his creditors and whoever else automatically deducts from his account, because he didn't have the funds to cover his bills. I'm sure theres a lot of people out there who can't cover that even for a few days, or at all. What if you only have $400 to your name?
I dont see why they they dont do like everyone else by sending you the new phone and waiting until they get the old one before they decide to charge you for it.

Mine had that problem. Dead mic, speakers, couldn't make calls, but mine was also really laggy. It was strange because I called my boss in the morning (the day my phone took a dump) and a couple hours later it just stopped working for no reason. Is this a known issue? Has anyone pinpointed a cause?
EDIT: Ok so I just read up and apparently a solder joint/circuit can split disabling all sound and audio processing. Which makes sense, because I couldn't even makes calls using a bluetooth heaset
That stinks. I had a replacement phone in less than 48 hours from the time I sent my old one via FedEx.

I just thought I'd fill in some info about credit cards - nothing actually useful for the main problem this thread is about.
More than likely it was actually a "pre-authorization". A pre-authorized charge effectively puts whatever amount on hold and appears as if it's just a normal transaction. In actuality, unless the company who made the charge (Google) takes action, a pre-authorized amount automatically falls off your credit card after up to 5 days or so. I'm not an expert on this, and I don't work in the credit industry - just from working lots of retail, which I don't do anymore, either. So basically, Google didn't control when the charge no longer appeared on your card, and it only would have remained on your card if Google took further action "solidifying" the pre-authorized amount. There's probably a better explanation but as I said, I'm no expert.
Hello
i am a pixel owner,i live in Greece but the device is bought from USA.So i don't know what to do if something goes wrong with the device.
I make a research but i can't find an email or something else to ask google what to do.Does anyone knows how i can find from where my device is bought?
Thanks in advance
For warranty reasons is it best to always buy directly from Google ? I just got mine from Google Store.

Yes.
I hear all these stories about RMAs, shipping in your phone, and the entire hassle of packing it up, taking it to a shipping center and hoping it makes it there, etc, i honestly hope I do not have to go through any of that. It sound like a pain!
For a short time last year i tried out an iPhone, and there is nothing like being able to walk into the store, buying it, and having someone there to answer your questions. When I decided not to keep it , i simply took it back, told the dude 'its not for me right now' , got an instant refund on my card and literally did not get drilled on exactly why I was returning it. From the time I walked out my door to the time I got home about an hour ish of my time and hassle.
I like Google stuff, and i really like my Pixel, no issues at all with it, but that Iphone buying experience is what Google needs to meet or exceed. I know we are living more and more in an online world, but Google needs to figure this out FAST, or they will not be able to compete with that kind of customer service and support considering the cost of this thing and all the drama I have heard about people returning it. I highly doubt you would get a run around and be made to wait if there was a Google store like an Apple Store.
Its about the customer service/support for buying a very high value item and not being treated like a turd from what it seemed like the OP is being treated.
Actually no alot of us enjoy never having to walk in to an Apple store, most of the time you have to have an appointment or wait an hour in my area. Google support has always been above and beyond here but I deal through project fi, they have excellent customer service. Far beyond Apple Care and cheaper imo.
