Incoming Gmail notification freezes phone and kills data?

I am running Fresh's rom (but this issue popped up out of nowhere recently, running fresh for a while and this wasn't an issue prior) and have the MR in there.
So, when I get a @ gmail notification, the phone does a lock up... finally comes back but with no data and it can't be turned back on. I have to do a reset in order for it to work again. Has anyone had a similar issue?

I haven't had that happen, but I would try clearing the app data for gmail and seeing if that resolves it.
Settings < Applications < Manage Applications < Gmail
Settings < Applications < Manage Applications < Gmail Storage
Under each one click Clear Data and Clear Cache (might not be able to do each on both, just click any buttons that are active)
Reboot and try. If that doesn't do it then try clearing your cache. My apps installer in my sig has a utility to do it automatically.

Will do... I was about to do those, but I wanted to get community feedback on those issues since its a good way to identify problems for each other if it happened down the line to anyone else.
Clear Data was only available for the both of them...
After doing the cache clear via your app installer proggie... the device still does a freeze (seems like a reloading of the Sense UI, all buttons are unresponsive as well). No service for a little bit, then it comes back... and I am then locked out of anything data related since EV does not come back.
Are you running an optimized rom? Sounds like rosie is going nuts.

It looks like some of the cache cleaner apps in Play store let you choose which app caches to clean. Perhaps you could find one that lets you exclude Maps.

That's the problem i am searching and i cant find any, only option i can see is manually clear the cache of every app.
I even tried check paid apps
I don't think you need to clean all app caches periodically as a general practice. Some issues occasionally create the need to clear a cache, but you can do that from Settings > Apps, pick your app. I've only cleared a cache if was needed to fix a problem.
You could use a memory manager instead. While it won't clean cache it will be more aggressive about closing out apps that have been backgrounded.
But I don't think either is needed. Unless you are trying to solve a problem. Memory management has gotten pretty good in Android.

Anyone for a cleaner that will exclude maps? Only way I found to do this is copy the map cache folder to a other folder, then clear all cache, then copy the map cache back. I have 150mb of offline maps that I like to keep, but it's nice to clear all other cache weekly.

[Q] Maps using too much battery [SOLVED]

Hello,
I have a question about google maps on I9505. Maps app is using too much battery although I have not turned them on. I have disabled google now and turned of Location reporting in google maps... As you can see in pictures, maps have used 13% of my battery, and stay awake time is 1 h 23 minutes :/ It is really too much because I do not use them. I have sent a question to Samsung Croatia about this but I didn`t get an answer
Does anyone else experience this problem?
EDIT: I have tried to disable the app using Application Manager and then Android OS asked me if I want to uninstall the updates... You can not disable the app but when I uninstalled the updates (Latest update was 14.05.2013.) maps stopped using the battery or at least it does not show on battery usage statistics Will try that for a few days and report back if that is working
EDIT 28.05.2013.
Now I know that the problem is in the new version of google maps. After uninstalling upades everything works perfectly and battery lasts much longer!

Just stop it before you clear cache and data.
Then run Google maps again and see if it makes a difference
BTW When I uninstall apps I always do in this way in order to avoid any leftover data/cache ...

I am strongly againts force closing apps but I will try it forced closed it, cleared cache and data and checked stay awake time for now it is 13 minutes i 20 secondes Will check in 10 minutes and see if that helps
Thrust me, when you delete an app nothing remains The only thing that can remain is the data that app has stored on your external partition but that does not affect OS performance.

Dont worry... Its a bug... From your carrier signal , it appears that you are currently roaming. Play store updates are not getting downloaded over mobile data when roaming.. I experienced the same issue... It will work fine over wifi or if you get back to your proper circle ... Hopefully a fix is on the way
Hey thanks for replying....... But is this normal...... Phone being wake all night..... Even after screen off and almost all essential apps greenified..... And play services not updating......

What the heck did you do? Are you unlocked or rooted? If you know what you are doing then start all over and stop messing with stuff until it's stable. And no, it's not normal.

No, there is no software bug in the OS. You need to stop whatever apps you have running or reset the device and start over.
The battery should improve in a day or so after google play services finish synchronising, just give it one to two days

Play store apps reamain on 100% downloaded but don't install

I have a problem with play store: if i download an app from it, it remains stuck at 100% downloaded but it doesn't install... it needs sometimes even 3 or 4 minutes to start installation. Same thing for uninstall... I have just tried to clear play store memory (cache + memory) and play services memory but it doesn't help...
Seems i have found the problem... i have uninstalled and re installed nova launcher and now it seems to work perfectly... i think that's something related to "add shortcuts in home pages" in play store settings...
It already happened to me on my former phone. But I solved the problem by rebooting the phone
Problems persist... i've done a factory reset but nothing: sometimes it's impossible to install/uninstall applications from Play Store, the progress bar of download stuck at 100% but the app won't install... sometimes it needs some minutes, sometimes it's just instantly... it's something play store server related? If i try to uninstall app from touchwiz it's simply instantly even if however, if go to app list in play store, the app i've just uninstalled is still present in the apps list... .
I noticed that sometimes even the manual update of phone firmware doesn't work and the "checking update page" appears sometimes instantly ans sometimes after some minutes...
Same problems here. Noticed the same when requesting system update for the gear s3 from the phone. Also happening on my tab s3...

Have you tried to update Google play services? And play store to the latest version. Do both of these then boot to recovery and wipe cache and reboot.

Fingers crossed
Some apps have permissions to draw over screen and we need to disable this permission for apps to install correctly. I had a similar issue on my previous phone where the apps were stuck at 99% installation and then just dropped off. I had to literally disable 'Screen overlay' for almost each app for play store to install correctly.
Also, If you are able to sideload apks without any issues then it may be a play store related issue.
Hiya.
I have the same issue, and have for around 1 week now. Only with PlayStore, sideloading works fine
Has someone found a solution for this? I have noticed that sometimes it installs apps without any problems and sometimes remains stuck also for minutes! I can't realize what causes these slow down... maybe is something related to play store servers?
I have the same problem with 100% download and no install afterwards.
But at the same time I noticed two other problems:
- Badge Notification is not working - I don't see the "badge" on app's icon, when I receive messages.
- boon payment app is not working; when I touch screen to activate payment process (NFC chip), it supposed to countdown 60 s, but nothing happens.
I don't know if this is part of same problem. However I've tried - without success:
- reboot phone
- clear data/cache Google Play Store
- clear data/cache Google Play Services
- clear data Badge Provider
- clear data/cache TouchWiz
- reboot to recovery and clear cache
I think there is some process that should be reset (clear)... Any other suggestions? I'd try factory restore as very, very, very last option.

I've tried factory reset (2 times), but didn't help...
Having same issue with S8 and Tab S3. Also notifications are delayed for random amount of time. Some lag and connection timeouts with different applications, not all though.
Tried factory reset couple times, it fixed the problems for a while but after 1-2 hours they came back. Checked with safe mode if some 3rd party app is causing this. Issues remained in safe mode too.
Got it to work for now by clearing cache and data from Google Framework Services and Google Play Store. Lastly removed and re-added my Google account, rebooted device and wiped cache partition.
Notifications are now on time, Play store starts install instantly.
Still afraid that this is only a temporary fix, waiting to see if these problems arise again after few hours of usage.
Seems there is an issue with Google services on some Samsung devices, mainly running Nougat 7.0
