Strange screen issue(can i fix it myself by disassembly)? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my nexus 6p without a case(slipped out of my hand) and now the screen blanks out sometimes irrespective of battery charge/ phone heat status. If i PUSH IN the phone on the center, the screen turns back on making me think it's a connector that loosened when i dropped the phone. Any advice?(the phone screen has also come out of the case slightly near the top - i saw that there are clips holding the screen in near the top).

Keypad + screen issues (after reassembling)

I took apart my tytn, including the screen part.
After reassembling it, I've had random issues related to the keypad and screen.
By keypad, I mean all the keys on the screen part of the phone (D-pad, call/hangup,soft left/right, Internet Explorer & Email).
They will randomly cease working and randomly restart working (usually after turn on/off the screen with the power button)
The screen will also randomly turn white and come back on only if I turn off the screen and then back on.
Im thinking it has to do with a loose connection somewhere in the screen section of the phone, however, Ive taken it apart 2 more times to check everything out and the problem persists.
I wonder if anyone experienced the same thing and found which specific internal is the issue.
i would like to know too cause my buttons just stopped working. so the talk, end, message, Internet explorer, ect. but the left down up right and center button work.
I have the exact same issue.
All the keys (not keybord keys) randomly stops working. I am so used to it now, that I dont even try to answer the phone with the green key button.
The screen fades to white, sometimes (maybe 1-3 times a day).
The screen is white when awakening from "sleep mode", turning on and off the screen fixes that after a while (50% of the time white screen when from sleep mode).
I have found out that putting a finger nail between the keyboard and the screen, on the right hand side, when in closed position, and then putting the screen back on, gives me a 99% chance of funktional display.
The problem also accurs in the "full keyboard position", But putting the finger nail in the same spot helps.
So I think the problem of the connection is in the keyboard part of the phone, since those slide contact always are on the right hand side, and the display contact shift side.
I would lite to know if any body have a permanent solution for this.
(I have now opend my phone yet, and I have tryed the putting thin plastic between the display and the cover, with minimal success)
thanks for your time

These are the exact symptoms of the "SCREEN FADING INTO WHITE" problem. See this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303872
The common causes for this are a bad connection to the D-PAD controller PCB (in the technical manual they mention it should be carefully checked and the really small screews with same torque making a 90 degree with the PCB), a bad controller (that was my case, had to order a new one) or not enough pressure on the square black chip on controller (some people seem to have fixed it by putting a plastic sheet in between the chip and the case, to apply constant pressure).
I suggest you try to re-open your phone and reconnect the D-PAD PCB as carefully as you can, double checking the connection and the screws there.
I did fix my problem, by ordering a new PCB and replacing the old (probably bad) one. It started to happen after I dropped my phone and it's the only thing that worked. Now my phone is as good as new.
Hope this helps!
Similar Issues with screen
I have similar issues;
Anything thats on the foreground gets closed by the 'x' button and if I slide it open the start button gets continually pressed!
Seems to be the top right corner of my TS thats at fault
sometimes it's fine....most of the time its not!

I have the same! I have a huge dead spot in the middle of my (Tytn) screen, and if you tap there it actually activates the "ok" in the top right corner. The rest of the screen works ok. Whilst drawing in notes any drawing near the center dead spot results in a streak to the top right hand corner...
Bad screen?
Bad rom?
Bad motherboard?

You can rule out the ROM and M/board in my view for this specific problem. Your issue is very similar (and I think has the same cause) as those who find programs close randomly when in portrait mode and when they open the keyboard the start menu often pops up untapped.
I think this is just a case of a bit of pressure being put on the screen top right corner. Some folks have tried the business card run around under the bezel fix and had some success others have had to return for replacement/repair.
Some have taken the device apart and removed the gasket around the screen under the bezel, but this is not guaranteed to work.
Others have replaced the screen and for this particular problem it is very rarely successful as the screen is not normally damaged.
If you have a warranty use it - all of the above "fixes" are warranty voiding.

Hi Mike
It's an interesting problem as when performing a click and drag in Notes (drawing mode) the center section of the screen seems to work normally - a square box can select an area right through the middle of the screen - suggesting that the screen (as you say) is OK. So what is causing the a tap in the middle of the screen to register in the top right hand corner, when we now know that the center of the screen can work and respond in the correct manner. The size of the affected area is about the size of a thumb print EXACTLY in the middle. Personally I would like to believe that performing screen alignment 4 - 5 times a day for the past year has worn out the center dot and that is affecting the surrounding area. The trouble is that this fault has been reported on this site a few times now, and everyone says it's caused by something else! What did I do immediately before this happen I hear you ask? I flashed a new radio rom and was fiddling with a piece of card I have wedged down the RHS side of the screen to try and help stabilise the screen alignment. Since this problem arouse, I have removed the gasket - but that hasn't fixed it. I'm going to try and boot up the phone out of the casing to see what "zero" pressure applied to the screen does.
I'll report back...

It will be interesting to see what results you get. You'll need the old rubber band technique to hold the battery in place while you do it!

Well it's not due to the case squishing the sides of the screen as I just dismantled my hermes, wired it all up in bits on my desk, powered it up and still the screen has a dead spot in the middle and phantom taps in the top right. Temperature is normal room temp, approx 22deg c today.
I'm not sure the exact mechanisms of how these touch screens work out where you are tapping (resistance, voltage), but it looks like there are 3 separate strips running around the screen. 1 goes straight across the bottom, two goes up the LHS and across the top and 3 goes up the RHS. Therefore there is a gap between strips 2 and 3 in the top RH corner. Coincidence? hmmm It seems to me for it to register a tap in the top RH corner, strips 2 and 3 would register low voltages (or high resistance) and bottom wouldn't register at all. Thus suggesting a fault with the PSU that powers the touchscreen. Taps near the edges work because they are near the edges and therefore the resistance is not too great and can be detected, taps in the middle and worse off because they are far from all the detecting edge strips.
Does anyone think that there might a registry tweak for boasting power to the touchscreen?
Hermes Whie Screen Problem
To fix the "white screen" problem, you have to take your unit apart, and reconnect the ribbon cable.
I have a new 8525 and it started happeneing to me, so I took it apart this week, and reseated the ribbon connector.
Fixed the problem.
Has anyone here read and understood all that is said here:

Perhaps someone could compare the touch.dll in Black Majik to WM5 - should be the same right?
How come that HKLM/hardware/devicemap/touch doesn't show the touch.dll driver as drivername? Keyboard has it's driver...microsoft says it should say drivername = touch.dll
Do you all have that in your registry?

Cracked LCD or whitesreen?

I have read a few posts about the white screen issue and some seem to pertain to my problem and others don't. My screen is white 100% of the time from power on to power off. So I can't seen anything when it first boots or comes out of standby mode or any thing else. The only way that I can get the screen to be anything but white, is to hold it in my left hand with the keyboard slider bottom left corner of the phone pushed up against the base of my thumb muscle and my other fingers pushing on the bottom right corner or the phone on the screen slider. Sometimes if I hit it in the bottom right corner then squeeze it I can get it to work without tiring myself out from squeezing after 1 minute.
Seems to be a pressure and angle thing i think. The phone has been dropped on more than one occasion. Ten tops. Sometimes when I squeeze it i get lines from left to right, then fade to white.
If I put the phone on 65-90 degree angle from my eyes I can see a little black mark at the top of the screen under the C of HTC. That is what had me thinking that it was a cracked LCD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Phone is still under warranty, but would rather not be without it for the 6 -8 weeks I was told it would take, only to find out it was a cracked lcd and they won't fix it.
I believe you have to open it. Try to connect every single connection again.
I Had This
I had this problem when i dropped my Vario 2 the screen cracked and was all white, when i went on ebay and bought a new screen I took the vario 2 apart and replaced the screen BUT the ribon connector that plugs into the board was not quite in so when i re-assembled it i just got power and white screen.
There are a couple of little lugs on the ribon cable and i though that once they were butted up to the connector on the board that it was in properly. BUT the lugs actually needed to be pushed that little bit further and slide under part of the connector. BANG it worked fine.

Either send back and keep warranty or try the several solutions posted. I myself am pretty sure I found the correct solution and I posted it in the appropriate thread.
Thanks guys, I think I'm going to try my luck with sending it in. Will probably add a link to the main whitesrceen thread so hopefully I get no hassles. Will post back When I get it back.
I had a similar problem and voided my warranty because I don't have a spare device... anyway, here is where I found my solution.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
Good Luck... My phone is still working fine....

[Q] Broken LCD screen :(

Hey im panicing so bad rite now. I just broke my htc's LCD screen ! Mad sad from this disaster . Dont got much money so can someone please tell me whats the cheapest or best way to replace or fix it ? I really need help because im freaking out!
The repair choices
There are basically two choices. Doing it yourself or having it repaired.
In either case the most straight forward is to replace the screen and digitizer as one unit. I expect you can still see things on the screen yet its cracked from one corner. Its the digitizer on the top that usually suffers but its hard to replace by itself. There is a YouTube video showing how to do this (search on Replace Touch Screen on HTC HD2 on YouTube).
If you are game to do it yourself (an electronics tech would be able to do it fairly well, though it is still fairly difficult) then you can buy a complete screen and digitizer off ebay (around $100). Getting the unit out of the case is tricky as its held in with 4xT5 Torx screws (easy bit) and lock notches around the case (tricky part). I found thin stiff plastic bits slotted in between the module and the case works well at releasing the locking notches. Then press out at the top of the battery area, while pulling the top edge of the plastic case out and down with your finger nails. One side at a time. Don't forget to remove the SIM card and SD card as these will hold the module in place if not removed.
The double sided tapes used to hold the screen in place are a problem, but warming them up with a carefully applied heat gun does release them. I would add that there is no need to unscrew any of the electronics boards as the screen can be replaced without doing this. Releasing the screen ribbon cable connector is done by flipping up the black locking section on the ribbon socket. Slide in the new cable, lock it down, then curl it around as you slide it backward under the metal case so that the curl in the cable occurs in that small space under the metal rather than being folded over sharply, which can fracture the ribbon cable "wires" rendering the screen dead.
Press the screen back down onto the tape (hopefully the tape has remained slick enough as its all that holds the screen in place). Be careful to align the edges and top and bottom correctly, otherwise your buttons won't work and the screen will not sit in the case properly. You can test the buttons as you align to feel for the slight click. Be sure to test all four as alignment left to right is just as critical for full function as up and down. You should also watch to be sure the light sensor little plastic bit (its a small clear cube of plastic) doesn't fall out and disappear while you are doing the screen swap and it stays in place during reassembly.
Then press it home into the plastic case. I remove the volume button (if it hasn't fallen out already) as it tends to push the volume button pads out of alignment (they are only held in with yellow tape (be careful not to loose them). Then with it all snapped in place pull out at the volume button section and slot the button back in place. Orientation is fairly obvious with the button points lower down and the joining bar going behind the case plastic to lock it in place (all with the screen facing upward). You may find the volume button only works if you press down on the screen slightly. This movement will be taken up when you screw the 4 torx screws back in.
Finish by powering up (with fingers crossed) and test. Hopefully all working.
Alternatively, if thats put you off doing it yourself, get it repaired by a service agent (around $300). Then it comes back all done with a small warranty. Most of the phone providers will be able to direct you to a good independent service agent.

[Q] Screen crack and blackout after phone call

So my sister who also has an Aria dropper her phone and now there is a huge crack on the screen. She doesn't have insurance so she is trying to find an alternative way to fix it.
Simply replacing the screen would work, but another problem started happening when she cracked the screen. During a phone call, the screen will turn off, as it should, but when the call has ended, the screen stays off and the only way to turn it back on is to either pull out the battery and reboot the phone or to plug it into a charger.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Will replacing the screen fix the blackout issue? Or is this phone just trashed forever?
sounds like it destroyed the phone and the proximity sensor. i'm not sure if replacing the screen will fix this.
I actually had the exact same problem after dropping my phone during a call. I noticed that I didn't have to pull the battery to end the call if I held it up super-close to a really bright light (desk lamp, etc).
There were many times when I was on the street (in nyc), and had to find a bright light to hold it up to.
I dropped my Aria right on the corner with the ambient light sensor (in the upper right corner), which shattered the glass right in front of it.
Amazingly enough, after a few weeks, it started to get better and better - and now, nearly 4 months later (yea, i just deal with **** lol), it will hang up cals properly.
I'm actually working on replacing the screen right now, btw

[Q] Screen "unplugged" after fall?

Hello,
My wife dropped her Galaxy S5 this morning from waist height, face down on a wooden floor.
There is no apparent damage at all (no scratches on the screen or on the sides), but the screen was staying off after that.
The rest of the phone is still working fine.
I advised her to try applying a little bit of pressure on different parts of the screen as I thought it might have been "disconnected" or "unplugged" during the fall (not making contact anymore).
When she did, the screen turned on, but when she stops pressing on the screen, it turns off again (though sometimes, it stays on for a few minutes and she can use it normally).
Should we send it in for repair or is it easily fixable (applying a bit more pressure?).
Thanks in advance!
