So I would like to take advantage of the promo from Samsung which is $550 ( trade-in) for my Note 8, it's like brand new. And get the S10+ for $450.
I don't really use the note as a DD. I use a 1+ 6T I got due to unlockable bootloader and root.
What do you guys recommend?
Yes
That's what I did, if it wasn't for the $550 credit for my note 8 I would of returned the s10, but such a good deal I'll just keep the s10 and trade up later, possibly for note 10 if I like it
I gotten the note 8 for 600 and trading it in for 550 is a no brainer. I really wanted to wait for the note 10, but they might not offer anywhere close to 550 when the note 10 drops.
Win Win ! that's what I was thinking.
How are you guys liking your S10+?
Is their much difference between the two?
I have the ceramic black 512gb with s 200gb micro sd card. It's a sold performing phone which does everything well & I'm glad I made the choice.
Excellent screen, great UI, great snapper (versatile) great battery which you can hammer. It's just a great phone all said.

Compared to an N8 it's night and day. Only issue for me is the S Pen, since it's a feature I relied on.
Anyway, the S10+ is worth the $500 I paid. Certainly helps that Samsung provides extra benefits, as well as Buds for pre orders. However the main pull for me had to be the event in Feb. The demo S10s felt too smooth - plus they were easy on the eyes. Had I stayed home that day my current phone would still be the N8. True story.
1st things I noticed were RAM management, cam, and audio. S10+ has some solid steereo speakers. N8's speaker didn't wow me. Now, the MIC is another area of interest. Audio recordings come out super clear, and people no longer complain during calls.

I came to the S10+ from a OnePlus 6T as well. I got the T-Mobile version S10+ so I know I won't be able to root it.
With all the customizations available for the S10+ I am not missing root at all. And this is coming from someone who would never buy a locked bootloader phone.
My poor OnePlus 6T is just setting on my desk.
The one thing I was worried about with not rooting was ad blocking but I got Adhell3 up and running and have no ads system-wide.

Hell yeah do it. You wont get $550 anywhere else for it. That's if they are still offering $550. I only see $300 on their site now unless i'm missing something.
I bought a Note 8 for $50 from a regular customer that came in my shop, (phone & computer repair) that i used to trade to Samsung for the $550 deal. I assumed it was a Buy 1 Get 1 offer because it was a regular customer, I didn't want to think of it as stolen because the guy had been coming to my shop for years. It was an AT&T Branded Note 8. Was still on someones contract and i assume was still paying for it because it wasn't blacklisted. I was using it as my daily driver. When i tried to do a sim unlock like i did my s8+ through AT&T, it came back as
"We can't complete your request
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Request number: CULxxxxxxxx
Hi, Robert.
Thank you for contacting AT&T about unlocking your mobile device.
Because of certain AT&T guidelines, we were not able to unlock your device.

This is what i got back from Samsung a couple of days ago.
"Dear Robert,
We’re happy to inform you that your Trade-In was successful and your device met all of the eligibility requirements. We hope you’re enjoying your new Galaxy S10+ 128GB (Verizon). No further action is needed at this point.
Thank you for participating in the Samsung Trade-in program."
It also had a pretty nasty scratch on the screen but i guess they considered that normal wear and tear. Needless to say, i got a hell of a deal on my S10+! $449 + the $50 investment in the Note = $499 :highfive:

The LG G4 is one of the best phones I have owned. I truly appreciate it, however it has some nagging issues with carrier restrictions and as much as I hate to do it, my AT&T 810 G4 is going back. I am not happy about it, and may pick up an international (815) one soon, but I decided this one was going back.
Why Send it back?
No Root, No Bootloader Unlock
AT&T Bloatware
AT&T Disabled FM Radio
AT&T OTA pushes
Leather back felt cheap, and I could not find a good case to fit it
Nexus 5 2015
This is a great phone, and I have nothing against functionality or performance.
Whats Next?
Returning to my trusty HTC One M7 (For Now)
See what happens with the Nexus 5 2015
Might pickup an LG G4 815 International
Wait and see where developers go with unlocking the G4

Root and unlock will happen, the leather back I have feels high class (t-mo brown) you can freeze bloat with de-bloater tool (all mine is) I dont use the radio (too many apps to use it, plus some of them have local radio) ota-cant help that... I'll most likely get the Nexus 5 as. Well....while keeping this phone.....you did admit its a great phone!
OP has all fair points. Not mad.. but sorry to see you go.

Looks like you need to buy a phone full price, no carrier BS.
Sorry to see you go, but I completely understand. I have seen things in this forum that US carriers do to that phone and I have no idea WTF they are thinking.
As for root, I have faith.:good:
Sadly, mine's going back as well. As much as I like the phone, there are currently too many things that annoy me. I'm with Verizon, so the missing apps started me out on the wrong foot. Then throw in LG and/or Verizon not honoring the $100 GB of Google Drive storage as promised, and the touchscreen issues. Finally, I got a notice from Verizon and my bill went up $23 instead of dropping a couple bucks which two Best Buy reps assured me it would. I spoke to a Best Buy manager, and they agreed to return the phone a month after I purchased it (as well as cancel the Edge plan).
All in all, it's a great phone but it's not significantly better than my trusty G3 (slightly better CPU, camera, battery etc...) enough to offset the additional expense. I have a bunch of accessories for the G4 that I'm holding onto, so I'll probably pick one up further down the road. I'd opt for the international version for obvious reasons. I assume that the unlocked version will work fine on a CDMA network with the proper set-up.
UPDATE: Nope... I guess I'm keeping it. After two Verizon reps assured me that I could cancel my Edge agreement, when the time came to do so the rep I got said in no uncertain terms that it wasn't going to happen. So even though Best Buy admitted that they screwed up and offered to return the phone AND twice Verizon said otherwise, I'm now told that I would have to buy out the remainder of the contract. I can't complain too much, since I got the $100 Best Buy gift card and Verizon kicked in a $145 bill credit for the mistake.
Unlocked International won't be a good idea..... As long as Verizon doesn't transition to full LTE and still uses CDMA till 2017, this won't work as voice won't go over GSM...
Actually holding back from the G4 because of those as well. Let's see what this year's Nexus have to offer and probably the OnePlus Two as well.
I did the same. Unless there is a viable unlock + root option no LG G4 for me!

Yep, I am waiting to. I may head back to LG4 if there is an unlock and root option.
I can certainly respect your decision, even if I would not do the same thing. Sorry that you did not get as much out of your G4 as you were expecting that you would, I just hope you can find a phone that fits your needs and you can have more fun with.
BTW - That Nexus 5 2015 does sound pretty promising, if you pick one up be sure to let me know how it is.
im in the same boat, Att H810 have the least number of bands out of all G4 variants, so I can't get data even when I unlock the phone to use in Asia.
But I am already past my 14 days period so fml.

Call recorder. This is a must have app for everyone who interacts with any business at all. They're always going to record your call for 'quality assurance', which automatically gives you the right to record it as well (at least in California) without informing them. Always good for CYA situations like this.
He said they just got more info from Samsung again saying the recall is just voluntary. He said Samsung is investigating whether or not those were new or old devices that caught fire and after their investigation is complete they could say all the new note 7s are fine... He said my upgrade isn't going anywhere and I should hold onto it and wait for it to be complete. What do you think?
I think regardless at this point with my wife and I both having notes in our home it's not worth it to keep them. Coming from a rooted Note 3 on Sprint I am not impressed with this $800 purchase in the slightest and these issues are not helping their cause. At this point I'm just ready to give it back put it behind us and wait till the next greatest thing. My Note 3 still runs great and I really miss my root options.

I think they are just trained to say that. Samsung has to cover their asses IN CASE the new ones really do have a widespread issue.

Just received this from Verizon a few minutes ago.
I love how they conveniently leave out the $20 upgrade fee still being charged online, having to pay the taxes on the replacement up front even though we've already paid that or more for the Note 7 (which will EVENTUALLY be refunded to the account, maybe), and then being locked into another 2 year upgrade cycle even though it's more than possible that the Note 7's replacement will come out in the next 8 months and we'll then be stuck with whatever replacement we choose to get now, as a kneejerk reaction to not being able to keep the phone we (well, I, at least) absolutely love more than any smartphone I've owned since the DroidX. I'll have to buy another case for the new phone, and yet ANOTHER screen protector (5th one now since I went through 2 ****ty glass ones on the first Note before settling on a film one and then having to get another one for the replacement Note).
**** this whole situation. I love the Note 7 and hate that I'm going to end up settling on the S7E (To keep in the Samsung family for my GearVR and Fit2) and being stuck with it till well after the Note7's replacement hits the market. If the Pixel XL had removable storage I'd just jump over to that, get a refund on the GearVR, sell the Fit2 and just stew in it for the next 2 years. 32gb without removable storage, on a "flagship" with VR support? Has Google never seen the file sizes of high res 3D Movies and VR porn? Daydream is gonna flop if Pixel is its driving force in the market.
This. ****. Sucks.

Read what you want and skip over that everything for the Note 7 is halted and they're looking for alternative solution, meaning something other than note 7. It's dead, get over it.

Samsung still can't reproduce the problem. They lost in the court of public opinion which matters more. No way are they going to stick me with an older s7 on a payment plan. They should offer an even better deal at least.
I no longer feel unsafe using the Note, could be incredibly dumb, but I'm not convinced by the new reports. Verizon sending me out of the store with this "dangerous" item and just cutting the cord was surreal too.
i just swapped my Note 7 for an iPhone Plus . I didn't go to a store, I called the 611 support line and ordered through a Verizon rep. They sent me the new iPhone, but didn't include anything pertaining to how I send the Note back. Are they reporting all swaps to Samsung so that Samsung will automatically send me a mailing box? I highly doubt it. So for now, I've activated the iPhone, and I'm still using the Note 7 as strictly a wifi device, so I can do everything with it other than take phone calls and send texts. I think I have the best of both worlds. BTW, the battery life on the iPhone is phenomenal, the first day when I was setting everything up, I got SOT of almost 8 hours. It's also very fast and smooth.
Welp as of Saturday at noon it will be illegal to take a note 7 on a plane. This might change some folks minds on keeping that "free" phone.

Yeah but, how are they going to know you have a note 7? They gonna start closely looking at everyone's phones from now on or what?
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone on here is giving up their N7 for the S8+? Most specs look to be better, with the exception of the S-Pen of course.
Any idea when the N8 will be out? Though they did mention that they will be re-releasing the N7 as refurbs.
Debating about the S8+ at this point.
I love the N7, but who knows when the N8 will be out, so debating...
Called T-Mbile to find out if I still get a refund and they said YES 2 days ago. They said I would get back the downpayment/tax and whatever the monthly charges were up until the day when I called, so it came out to close to 400, but they said it would be in credits to the account, which I am fine with either way. Today I chatted with them online instead of calling, and they advised that the recall was finished and that refunds are no longer being given, but recommended I see a local store, so now I am not sure what to do.
I'll wait for the N8 and I think I heard people say the N8 would be out at the end of the year. Don't quote me on that.
If they are re releasing the N7. As long as it is still a beast of a phone like it was on original release. I will be happy with that. At a cheaper price of course. The pen spoiled me that's for sure
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
That is kind of what is holding me back, the lack of the S-Pen, but if you were to ask me how often do I use it, I'd say about 5 times since I got the phone in my hand haha
I like the luxury of having it if I need/want to use it, but do not find myself using it that much unfortunately.

I will head to the store today to see if I like the s8+ or not. the only thing really holding me back would be the fact that i wont be able to jump to the N8 when it comes out since it will be less than a year or 50% of the phone, so thats really the one and only thing. S8 is technically better in terms of specs I think. It is a bit more narrow but bigger screen, but no s-pen.
Eh, decisions, decisions lol
You'll get your credit, only thing is if you were in Jump on Demand then it gets voided and you have to start a different jump program.
It sucks, I didn't wanna have to get rid of JOD. I'm debating if I want to or not now.

Yep, I was thinking of that too, but I was originally on Jump 2.0 and did not want to switch to JoD. I dont remember the reasoning why I DIDNT want to switch, but i'm fine with J2.0 because I only jump ones a year either way to the next best samsung lol
Note 7 to Galaxy S8+ Jump on Demand
I've been a lurker on XDA until now; I will describe my time with the Note 7 and switch to the (pre-ordered) S8+.
I obtained my Note 7 shortly after it was released a second time. Confident that the batteries were fine despite allegations of a second round of explosions, I decided to keep my device. I downloaded (and pointedly resisted updating) EZ Disabler Pro, and promptly disabled updates as users on this forum warned of upcoming updates that would limit battery life, and functionality. The app and update restrictions have been in place since November 2016; therefore I still possess a Note 7 device which charges to 100% and more or less performs the way it was intended to at the time of release.
I use my S-Pen constantly. Smart Select is a tool I use multiple times, every day, and I will be quite sad to let it go as I upgrade to the Galaxy S8+. However, having a supported device which will receive updates and is not banned on commercial aircraft is worth the trade in until the Note 8 pops in October of this year.
T-Mobile has made the transition difficult. Any time I call about billing issues or service agreements, representatives ask me about the Note 7 and seem to be unable to process requests on my line because of the phone's status as a recalled device. The first time I called into to pre-order the Galaxy S8+ and trade in my Note 7 through Jump on Demand, I was refused. The representative informed me that I would be unable to complete this trade in due to the Note 7's status, and that I must continue through a standard Jump upgrade, which would put me on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP). I firmly believe in technology leasing due to the financially unfeasible process of owning the latest devices, and was not willing to take the EIP route. Instead, I ended my call with T-Mobile and decided to do some research on the JoD lease.
In my research I found that as a lessee, I do not own my Note 7. The Note 7 belongs to T-Mobile, and they must take it back and continue my program with a new phoneas long as the trade in device meets the physical requirements for return. (My phone is in mint condition) I also found that pre-orders are covered under JoD, and then was confused as to why I was being refused.
After learning this, I called T-Mobile again, in the early morning hours (I'm in EST US) at about 2am. Turns out that standard customer service representative in the US are just lazy and unwilling to do research. My rep was based in the Philippines and while she initially had responses very similar to earlier reps I had spoken to, upon being asked direct questions about my JoD lease, she took the time (spent about 75 mins on the phone with her) to look through documentation, click through menus on her employee terminal and find the option of continuing my JoD lease, and pre-ordering the S8+ through that portal.
TLDR;
If you're being told that you can't continue JoD because you have a Note 7 and would like to trade in for the S8(+), ask direct questions about your lease until the reps stop being bums and actually go through the documentation. IT IS POSSIBLE TO PRE-ORDER THE S8+ ON JoD COMING FROM A NOTE 7. They will take the first opportunity to hand you off to another rep or force you through the method that they are most familiar with. Keep in mind, newer reps may not know anything about JoD since the program has long been unavailable to new customers. Foreign reps in my experience (whether it be for billing issues, accidental charges, line adjustments, etc) seem to care more your situation/satisfaction than the average US rep.
P.S:
Be warned, JoD is no longer available to new or existing customers. If you leave JoD now, it will not be possible to get back on such a lease. JoD lessees are grandfathered to the program.

I own my Note 7 outright, paid in full. I have no intentions of getting the S8, I'll wait for the next Note. I do, however, intend to return my Note 7 for a full refund and get the Note 8 without having to pay too much more. I'd love to have somebody at Magenta try to tell me the recall is over. Fact is, it is not! There is no expiration date and they can't invent one!

I recently took the plunge and finally returned my note 7. No T-Mobile stores I went to would accept it saying the recall had expired, smh. I eventually ended up doing the return through Samsung and got a better deal. Phone and 2 cases plus the extra $25 from Samsung netted me back $999. I'll gladly take that in a check than credits from T-Mobile.

Like the other carriers they were compensated by Samsung for all Note 7's. That's money they intend to keep, Magenta can be scandalous! Since mine is paid in full it won't go down that way when I return mind, I'll make sure if it!

So are they mailing you something for the Note 7 or are you returning it to the store?
I'm want to get the S8, but I keep getting mixed answer from store and phone reps.

I've been instructed to return my Note7 at a store within two weeks of receiving my new device. I just got the S8+ some 12-13 hours ago. I have not yet returned the Note7.
I'm currently in possession of both the S8+ and the Note7. They're quite similar actually; I think the upgrade is far more dramatic from the S7 or even the S7 edge.

Thanks for the info, I went to Tmo store and did it there. I kept my JOD so I'll be able to get the Note 8 when it comes out. I'm a happy camper lol. But I went with the regular S8, same screen size as the Note 7, just less bezel.

I'm using both phones(N7 & s8+). Let me make it a short and sweet. S8+ is pretty much like the N7. Both phones pretty much has same software and exterior, except s8+ is a bit taller(more screen real estate). You obviously missing out the mighty s-pen from N7. Look at the pic below, the N7 sits almost perfectly inside the s8+'s wallet case. For those whom still has the N7, IMO just keep it and wait until the N8.

Lol, I would of kept mine but my battery was getting ****tier and my charging port was so loose that by the slightest touch it would come off. It was getting annoying.
But you're right, S8 is pretty much a N7 without the pen. Which I miss lol

So I was checking how many payments left I have on my H918 which is around $380 cause I got mine after trading my Note 7 last year. Knowing that the V20s new in box goes for almost that amount and having the JUMP requirement met (50% of the phone paid) I dont know if I should upgrade to another phone like the S8 for example.
I called today and the Note 8 needs a $500 down payment which I found way too pricey, is it worth to upgrade to an S8 plus or should I keep my V20 even though I still own that much to pay?
Up
I'm keeping my V20 until the price of the note 8 comes down. You can get a nice S8+ for $550 form a reliable seller:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Samsung...402&hash=item2cc65eee33:g:eek:W8AAOSw8d5ZRA5A
The same will be true in 6-8 months for the note 8. By then there will be plenty of competent dev's supporting the note 8 with stable roms and for a long time.

I'm expecting T-Mobile and Sammy to have the locked bootloader of hell on the Note 8. Thats why I actually returned my S8 and got the V20 for 450 which in my opinion is the best deal I've ever gotten on a phone. I do understand the OPs struggle with being half way paying off an $800 device. I would hold off and until the price drops on the S8 to atleast a couple hundred more than what is owed for the v20. Ive seen s8s go for as low as $450 new on facebook.
I was thinking about rooting it but im on the h91810k and the 10p is scheduled on the background. I guess will see.
Nexus 6 made a list for a trade in program on T-Mobile for OnePlus 6T. No joke.
This makes things interesting now ....

No.
Just got oneplus 6T.
$580 T-Mobile version, I payed only taxes. $300 trade off split in 24 months as a credit for your account, I am paying $11.67/month for 24 months.
The guy didn't care about Lineage running, all he did he checked if the phone is working. He also checked how much is trade in value of my Nexus - it came out to be $0.00

And how do you like it plan to trade mine in on Friday
It's pretty good, super fast, I was holding them side by side, trying to transfer everything and right away you feel those phones are not in the same category. Screen is big but size wise they are similar, because of the bezels. One plus is not as wide. Another good thing, it came with the case, so ignore your sales person trying to sell your one.
Fingerprint is pretty quick, I've read some concerns that it's not as fast as actual fingerprint sensor - I didn't feel it (so far). I turned off Pie gestures, still not used to them.
I felt sad tho when they took my Nexus 6.
I heard bootloader is locked though on T-Mobile version? Main reason not going through with the trade right now.
It is. It also has some T-Mobile apps, some of them easily removable (voice mail, ID, Tuesday), but T-Mobile official app and Unlock app (to request to take the phone to other network) are not removable. You can't even disable them. I've been told as soon I pay it off it will be unlocked. Upon the setup wizard T-Mo asks to collect some data to make "our experience" better which you should not agree to.
Also it has a stupid T-Mobile jingle as a ringtone and start up animation.

Cool! I was considering trading in my shamu for this, but I think I'll just buy mine from OnePlus and pay the full price. The less bumps in the road for modding the better. Plus I'm not ready to give up my shamu, I love this device still!
Can anyone confirm a locked bootloader with t mobile. I'm in Ohio and t mobile is receiving their inventory op6t's today. I'm going to go check out the developer menu on the demo and see if there's an oem unlock or anything. But if anyone can confirm beforehand that would be great. T mobile phones have not given me any issues with rooting or ROMs either way. It's who I have had for 12 years. Also, this is not confirmed either but customer care said they think t mobile may do a bogo with post paid accounts as well. Launching on the first. So who knows. They have never been wrong telling me this kinda stuff before.. but bye bye Shamu.

So I've been checking the OnePlus 6t forum here on XDA. The thing about the T-Mobile version is this. If you trade in your Nexus 6, they WILL take off $300. BUT the bootloader is locked, and T-Mobile will set you up on a 2 year installment plan. They won't let you unlock your bootloader until the 2 years is up, even IF you pay it off in full. If you want to unlock your bootloader before 2 years (I'm sure most do) buy from OnePlus. I don't recommend the trade in for this reason.

Well, as with most higher end devices, we usually find a way to mod, root and do whatever, even with a locked bootloader.so I'm not scared.been with t mobile 13 years
I wouldn't trade my Nexus 6 in for anything...There is nothing out there (new phones) that comes close to what this phone offers. I can run the latest OS with ease. The screen on this bad boy is still better in my opinion then anything out there. I like the shape 16.9 vs the new 18.9. ( I think that is how they are classified ). So what if were short a little bit of ram. The development community is still strong with the nexus 6. My phone is quicker now then when I got it and I've had it since it came out. I could go on but I wont. My nexus 6 is staying right where it is. In my hands now. Anyone trading it is foolish.

This..
And to add,
I got the Nexus 6 purely for the screen size, I my self have big hands, and the battery sucked on stock 7.1.1 BUT with the awesome Dev's backing the Nexus 6, I'm running latest Pie OS, buttery smooth, with Franco kernel can easily get through a full day. . Suffice it to say, I'm also keeping the Nexus 6. Comparing the latest flagships vs the Nexus 6 specs are on par, and with the notchless design I say this is a win, win.
It does have a forehead and a chin, but there are countless times I've dropped my Shamus and it survived, (with a case), my buddy has a shock proof case as well on his Samsung s8 and has cracked his screen twice. Got it replaced and is cracked again. No thank you.
I jumped ship, (still missing my n6 lol, the reason I am here) first thing thanks to OP for starting this thread that helped me decide. 2nd I got my bootloader unlocked, I made sure to check the phone, put an active sim in, hit unlock in unlock app before they processed the ordered, that unlocked the phone immediately, and next I requested unlock.bin key from 1+, waiting on it to arrive next week. I love the phone, its better in every aspect but one, wide screen on n6 that this one lacks. other than that 6T is pretty stellar. I am totally impressed by quality. i am sure in less than a month xda will have many ROMs. My n6 battery was dying to the point of 2-2.5 hrs battery per charge and charging port itself was failing, rather than spending 30-40$ that way, I just upgraded for 300, GOT 36$ CREDIT FOR 64GB VERSION so I am happy. if this trade in offer comes again, I would recommend it to anyone.
can anyone pls explain how this work?
is this avaliable for europe?
do you think this type of deal will ever come back?
