Considering unlocking and all that. Recommendations? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

So, I've had this phone since shortly after launch. I came from a pixel 2 XL after one of my middle school students broke it. I pretty regularly ran custom roms or just a couple modules and root apps here and there. I know you lose fingerprint sensor by installing custom roms, just curious as to what everyone else did? I assume the procedures are all still the same as the pixel 2.

I unlocked yesterday, root and installed a kernel and run OOS Stock Rom. You should do that, if you don't want to loose the FP. Probably I would be trying some ROMs, but not now. I come from a OP3 with Custom ROM.

There's 2 roms we have here that have the fingerprint sensor working, because they're actually Magisk modules that run on top of OOS. Revovation Ice (Only works with stable OOS) and XXX No Limits (works with stable and beta, you can find this one in the OnePlus 6 forum). I'm using Renovation Ice right now, I love it!

Sweet. I actually tried Friday 2 and still have it and it did not go well. Could not figure out what gapps to download, seems like everyone I picked was the wrong one. Had to learn how to put this phone back to stock and was freaking out. Nandroid backup didn't work. Every time I hit reboot system it would put me right back to the same spot, except it was TWRP encrypted, wouldn't reboot. Ended up having to figure out how to get it back to stock and haven't tried it again yet.

Why are you trying to install Gapps? The stock OOS already has them. Renovate Ice runs on top of the stock ROM. Back to Stock is as simple as flashing the latest ROM even with a factory reset(complete wipe). Set up as normal after flashing, then flash Twrp. Install Magisk if you want Root then Renovate Ice. There are guides on how to do all of this.

Havoc rom required then according to the directions. That's the too I tried Friday night. It was a rough night.

Phone corrupt? Simple fix actually. Download the MSM Download Tool, it's here on XDA in the Guides section for some reason. There's the T-Mobile version of the tool if you bought your device from T-Mobile, and the global version of the tool (two separate threads on here) that will reflash the device if you bought from OnePlus directly. Shoot me a message if you need some help, I don't mind at all! [emoji1]
EDIT: Note that this tool formats your device COMPLETELY. You'll lose all your pics and files, but it cleanly installs OOS for you and relocks your bootloader as well.

I downloaded the tool, and have some experience using them but ended up doing the fastboot method . Are they the same thing except one is just via toolkit ?

Well, basically the MSM tool doesn't go through your bootloader. This device has a Qualcomm download mode built in that's an even lower level mode than the bootloader. The MSM tool can restore your device even if it's TOAST (for example, corrupted bootloader or just can't boot to it.). It's easier that fastboot as well! It's a perk of having a OnePlus for sure! Trying to restore/update PA but unfamiliar with the process

Hi Everyone,
Im using an att LG G2 with Paranoid Android installed; I bought the phone at release I am pretty sure and through att. I believe it to be PA version 3.4 and Android version 4.3.1 from looking af the about phone settings. Basically Ive had this phone on loan to someone for about a year and it is just bogged down with shovelware. Netflix wont even load. I was comfortable playing around with ROMs before but ive been in the Ios scene lately and am out of practice. I have some recoveries but I'm concerned with having not played around on the phone's root for several years now so I'd rather not use something that may be incomplete.
My main concern is having the phone back to its speed from before, getting rid of all of the apps, and starting fresh. Id like to keep PA, hopefully upgrade to the latest version, but if i can just factory reset that works too. I'm pretty sure i could reinstall PA starting from scratch with a clean phone. I've been through the forums different times and I really do find that the info is all consolidated well. I hope I don't come accross as lazy or unwilling to search, I just had a bad experience flashing my Galaxy S2 so whenever I'm not certain on the process I try to consult with people more involved.
Thank you all for your time,
Andrew Rapp
Forgive me but I've had this phone on the shelf for a bit and am seeing now that paranoid Android is relatively dead. That'd be unfortunate since I really dug the interface! But if it really is no longer being supported would anyone have a suggestion on a ROM upgrade? Thanks again!
Cm13 or 12.1 both available with a few variants based on them just give them a whirl.

I had CM back on my s2! I could get down with checking it out again. Going through their website is a lot of helpful information, however, most of it seems to be garnered at first time users. I'm using this guide here:
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_d800
and I'm curious if I can skip the first half (installing a custom recovery); because I'm pretty sure I have one installed already from when I flashed PA. How would I go about checking?
Just reboot into recovery to check the version.
But it would be best to update to TWRP 2.8.73 (latest version).
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
So once I've updated TWRP (which I do have installed) I can skip that first half and just do the second part? Thanks for the help btw; really trying to bring the phone back to life since I love the screen and size
If you have flashed Roms before you know the rule, read the first post then read it again then read it a third time
Make sure you have the correct bootstack, I suggest the official CM ROM to start with by Drastic then you can always try the others AICP,Bliss,ResurrectionRemix and Crdroid.
I like AICP for the customisations been on it for a couple of days to try out.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
I know, being cautious to a fault here >_< I just ended up using flashify to update twrp; that was easy enough. I'll use the app to make a back up I believe and then try following instructions on the website! Thanks for all your help, hopefully I won't need to return XD but still keeping the topic open just in case!
Nope! I get an error when trying to install the CM zip file. In red it says:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1KI-d800.zip'
I was able to get in what appears to be a broken CM installation, which fortunately includes file system exploration and messaging. Accessing the phone from the computer is no problem either. Any idea what the issue here may be?
Bump!
Not sure to be honest,if you have followed the steps in the OP post up in the thread by @drastic and I am sure the more knowledgeable will help you solve the problem.

Ahhh thanks! Yeah I'd been doing the 12.1 downloads from the CM site but yeah that process seems to be the same. Could it be possible that my something weird had been done with the person I loaned the phone too? He liked to tinker and I wouldn't put it passed him to have done something funny with it, or even I before having loaned it. Coud the bootstack be an incorrect? Is there a way I could check?
Can you get the phone back to stock Lollipop,if you think he has played around this may be the best option.

I was thinking that'd be the best option; just to start everything over. Would that process be extensive? I'm on a work computer so I can use recovery and get the files on my phone but anything too complex or needing me to use installers I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow

I know in the past we were able to flash international roms on TMOBILE. As we dont have a recovery yet, I flashed Tekk . Is there anything else we can flash for customizations? Also I would make a NAND in the past to make things easier if I mess up...... Is there a way to make a similar thing to a NAND just in case?????
No you can't make a nandroid because we don't have a custom recovery. Maybe things will progress in the future but as of right now, nothing.
Also don't flash anything international rom wise. Ever. They have an exynos processor and we have a qualcom.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I remember I could run note 3 international Roms on my tmobile note 3 just had to change kernel and apply a BT/WIFI fix and it was golden.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Because ALL the note 3 devices were qualcom except for one model. The 900
I'm still kicking it with the note 3. Dirty unicorns on it.

I recommend flashing Viper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/app-divinebeats-sound-master-phone-sony-t3274355) and Xposed ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6_...t?pref=2&pli=1 ) with FlashFire
For Viper, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-note5/general/share-viper4android-settings-t3313632 There are a lot of .irs files as well as my personal profile that sounds fantastic on my setup.
For Xposed, be careful. I've seen several reports that flashing it leads to bootloops, while others flash it no problem. I don't think we've worked out what causes the bootloops yet, but for safety, re-enable any packages you've disabled before you flash.
Between these two, your customization itch should be scratched until more comes out.
As far as backing up, the best I can think of off the top of my head is TiBU.
Although I haven't tried a restoration, I was successful in making a backup using FlashFire. Perhaps you can try that?

Android 7.0 for SM-T817W is out

The latest Android 7 Nougat firmware for SM-T817w, a Canadian version of the Tab S2, is out.
I did an OTA yesterday morning and it is now on firmware T817WVLU3CQDA. There was an update right after and now it is on NRD90M.T817WVLU3CQDA.DM.
I odined the TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t810_13317.tar) and twrp flashed the SuperSU (SuperSU-2.79-201612051815.aip) right after. It has TRWP recovery and root without even a glitch.
It probably takes a few week before Sammobile posts this official firmware.
Is this compatible with the T817T T-Mobile version?
I don't think so. You have to wait till that for t817t is released.
Hey man can you post a nandroid backup so us other users can try to go this route until the OTA is posted?
thanks
Sure, here it is, a link to the nandroid backup for those who need it. Restore it with TWRP.

How does one install this?
I have TWRP, Rooted - installed rom manager, nandroid manager, busy box, all the dependencies - booted into recovery and when I click on restore, regardless of where it is (internal sd, external sd, external usb) no files are shown.. i've unzipped it to a folder etc..
Do I have to wipe out twrp and install clockwork mod instead?

Do this if you have room and time. This way you will know what to put where and how:
Do a backup in TWRP then look at the folder it created and you will have an epiphany

Lol thanks.. yes.. makes a bit of sense which is better than no sense.. who knew it had to be in TWRP/[long string of random numbers]/Backups
Its working now, except for a few things - I cannot transfer any files to the tablet via USB, there doesn't seem to be a developers option anywhere, I've lost the unified storage (damnit samsung..) and seems to have lost root.
Other than that, we're all good.
I flashed Magisk to root and you get dev option the same way... Just tap build 5 times. It is in a sub menu this time... Thank Samsung

Rooted T-Mobile 6T - Looking To Update To Latest OOS

After getting finally getting my token from OP and unlocking the bootloader to my Tmo 6T, I used this guide to root: https://youtu.be/sThVB1wu7nc
I'd like to update to OxygenOS 9.0.10 (or 9.0.7) but I'm not clear if I can just follow the same procedures in the video I linked or if there's some different steps I need to take considering I'm using a rooted Tmo (no custom ROM).
This OOS version that's listed here is the international version right? Oxygen OS 9.0.7 Full Rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/official-oxygenos-9-0-4-ota-oneplus-6t-t3860953
So I'm assuming if I try and upgrade to this version there are some Tmo features that may be broken? I'm sorry for not fully understanding this stuff. I'm trying to learn. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
You need to use the full rom 9.0.7 not the incremental.

Thanks for all the help @Koont and @KOLIOSIS! I got things up and running on 9.0.7. Pretty neat not seeing that Tmo stuff at startup and shutdown.
Two small hiccups, though. Magisk app manager crashes when I try to look at modules to download/install. I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it. Still doing the same thing. And then there's the Google app. As you can from the screenshot it keep saying something about an error whilst trying to sign in. I'm signed into the other Google apps, Play Store working fine. Not sure why this is messing up.
But my biggest concern is this issue with Magisk. Any tips?
*update*
Strange but suddenly both issues resolved on their own. I had some Google apps that were taking FOREVER to download from the Play Store. Even switching between data and WiFi. I don't know why they were so slow to download. I would stop and resume downloads which did help make them a bit quicker. But I only noticed things were finally working after these Google apps finished updating. The Google app no longer showing that error sign in message and I was just able to install a Magisk module.
I don't know why the app was crashing before.

Multiple layers of oxygen os

Ive recently purchased one plus 6t and I unlocked bootloader and install twrp in it. After following all instructions of xda developers, i tried to wiped oxygen os beta 4 ( i was using beta 4 then) and after wiping everything ( including oxygen os ) from the device, i booted into the system. According to me, if no os is installed on one plus device, it should not show anything if we boot into the system. But surprisingly, I found that oxygen os beta 3 was running. Now, how did it happen I can't figure out... maybe there are multiple layers of oxygen os... I don't know

The OP6T is an A/B device. The phone has two partitions of which one is active. If you install an OTA Update it'll be installed to the inactive Partition WHILE you're using your phone. There is no Need to let the phone boot in recovery mode to install the update. After the update is finished it'll boot the other Partition where the update was installed.
I think this is what you're experiencing here
