I'm about to buy the G1 and unlock it for AT&T, so my questions are. Is this the right site where I unlock my G1? http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/EN/unlock-code-G1.php?setCurrency=USD. Since AT&T and T-Mo have different bands will Edge and 3G work? And lastly when the new "cupcake" update comes out, since my phone is unlock can i just update and not have to worry?
Thanks
Edge will work but AT&T uses a different 3G frequency than T-Mo so you'll have no 3G. Since updates are pushed out by T-Mo I kinda doubt you'll get them if you're on the AT&T network but I could be wrong. If/when there is a cupcake release I'm sure it'll be made available here at XDA for manual installation. I got my unlock code directly from T-Mo so I can't vouch for any 3rd party sites but I know they're available on eBay for $16.99 and up.
Can anyone else tell me if the OTA updates will go to my phone if on AT&T and if it does will it mess up my unlock?
OTA updates will not affect simlock state. No clue whether G1 users on ATT will get OTA updates, but my guess is yes. You can still manually apply updates from sdcard as well.

Nope. Anyone can install signed updates from sdcard.
Thanks, so now that i know my unlock won't get messed up and can update whenever, that makes me happy.
To Unlock your phone you can call T-Mobile and have them do it free.
Don't Use Pay Sites, It Is A Ripoff
You have to be a T-Mobile customer for at least a given amount of time, i thought, since if you are not up-to-date with your payments, they wont send you an unlock code.
That is only for those that are on contract. If you are not on contract tell them you bought the phone outright and that you would like the unlock code immediatly.
Hi,
I received an LG G6 LS993 as a gift at work. I have T-Mobile and would love to know if there is a way to have it unlocked.
Thanks
I would like to know this too, I just got a Sprint LG G6 and have Tmobile. Every unlocking website that I go to says they can't do it. Anyone have a solution?

If you don't know what you are talking about please do not respond. Way too much WRONG information out there concerning unlocking Sprint phones. Yes, this phone can be unlocked for GSM sim card use, as can every LG G-Series phone from Sprint starting with the G2. This can be proven with a quick google search so I wont bother with doing the leg work you obviously failed to do before you gave this person an incorrect answer. As for specific method for the G6, we are still working on it. You should check back with the forum periodically for updates.

So you say yes, but there's no way to do it?
Aren't there limitations in compatibility between Tmo networks and Sprint? Isn't the Sprint version CDMA based while the Tmo GSM? Or do they have both radios and it's merely enabling them?
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
Every Sprint phone since 2016 has GSM radios and the frequency bands necessary for T-Mobile (and AT&T). Normally to get Sprint phones unlocked they have to be paid for outright (no contracts or device payment plans remaining) at which point they normally unlock them automatically. If this criteria is all met, then you should be good to go by popping in a T-Mobile SIM. Otherwise if it's still locked then it most likely is still under payment. Past history with unlocking Sprint phones has proven it to be a difficult endeavor when going through third-party, so more luck to you if that's the route you have to go.

All Sprint phones capable of LTE are automatically unlocked after they are paid for and can be used on almost any GSM carrier as the bands usually match up. They have the SIM ports necessary for other networks, used for LTE capability on Sprint.
Easily unlocked
Sometimes if you just call Sprint and ask for the UICC unlock code they'll just give it to you.

It's automatically unlocked once it's paid off. If you got it as a gift, it's already unlocked.

That's possible, and if they didn't unlock it then he should still be able to call Sprint and they'd probably give it to him if it's ESN is clear.

Lg g6 and lg v30 now succussfully unlocked. Working on remote solution....not likely.
I have converted the LG G6 and LG V30+ from Sprint, model numbers LS993 and LS998 to unlocked firmware versions of the same phone, the AS998 and H873 versions. This is done with an unlocking tool, it is not free but the tool is well worth its salt..... This tool can be found with a bit of searching so I am not going to disclose it here and get this thread shut down or otherwise. Suffice it to say no IMEI change is required as has been erroneously stated elsewhere, the phone acts exactly like the stock version (with no bloat at all) as far as I can tell .......and I do this for a living.....lol. I am sending this reply with a Sprint V30 unlocked without Sprints help and on the Simple Mobile(T-mobile) network. Currently getting the expected throttled to 20mbps speed I've typically gotten with LTE on a T-Mobile mvno.
It does spike to 60+mbps before settling at 20 so the speed limitation is definitely the network(my cheap ass) and not the phone or flash.
I am working on a remote solution and will notify if I am able to overcome the speed requirement needed vs risk to phone brick ratio down to a level I feel comfortable with. I do NOT like not having the phone in my hand when working on it..... I would be happy to share info for shipping to my shop so that I can unlock your Sprint phones, feel free to message me.
Anyone know why Samsung takes so long to update the unlocked version? Is it due to compatability with all carriers and need to push carrier updates to get approved then they can push update to unlocked?
I'd imagine one reason is that they sell far fewer units for the unlocked versions.
I believe it is for security reasons. Easier to push out updates with errors that you can't exploit because of it being locked. Then having to make sure updates for the unlocked versions are more secure
I doubt it has anything to do with carrier compatibility, because I know that Samsung is not certifying the unlocked S8 for ATT. That is why the unlocked one cannot get VoLTE on ATT. There are very few unlocked devices that ATT certified for their network (HTC A9 comes to mind) and get on VoLTE. Verizon is not too far from this.
So, if we scratch carrier certification (because Samsung is not doing it), who knows what kind of contractual barrier with carriers is preventing them from updating the unlocked S8 and S8+. I guess similar contractual barrier that is preventing Sony selling their unlocked models with enabled fingerprint readers.
Got it. Well it finally received its first update this morning.

Ok that's the difference. You have a T-Mobile version that got a similar update except from what I had read it is May security patch. I actually have a factory unlocked S8 that isn't from any carrier. It got the update with June security patch
http://www.droid-life.com/2017/06/12/unlocked-verizon-galaxy-s8-updates/
So I have searched the internet and found no good/complete answers for this, I apologize if it's been discussed.
I purchased an ATT V20 while I still had ATT. I've since switched T-MOBILE. My device is carrier unlocked but plenty of T-MOBILE features seem to look for certain software (i.e. mobile hotspot) that is ATT branded and nonfunctioning. Since o am operating fully on T-MOBILEs bands and what not, is there any way to flash my OS/kernel/etc to essentially make this phone T-Mobile branded. I am aware I will probably need to root if possible during the process, but im not looking for a relationship phone (right meow). Just a better functioning T-Mobile V20.
Thanks!
(Also I know all of this comes with risks, but I am out of the country and unable to get to a store should I brick it, so a good recovery option would be nice, but I think we are still stuck for ATT variant.)
What's a relationship phone? And are you a cat?
Sent from my LG-LS997 using Tapatalk
It would probably be cheaper to see if you can trade the device in to T-Mobile, get the credit for it, and just get a V20 from them.
Possibly sell on Swappa and find a us996 or h918 for around $400 or cheaper on sale.
Was really hoping you all were gonna tell me I could just flash TMobile to it... It seems that's not happening

I don't think it would let you, and if you managed it, you'd be probably dealing with an irreversible brick.
You could TRY to use a Tmo rom but if you flash a Tmo KDZ(somehow) then you will 100% brick with no way to recover.
I did not want to make a whole new post, so I'm asking my question in this thread because it seem to be close to my question. I am getting a AT&T LG-V20 and I want to root it. is there a good reliable root out for this phone?

This only works if your Rom version is under ZV6 and security patch before December 2016 I believe.

I am running stock unlocked H910 on Cricket mobile, every time I try to check for an update it says that the system is up to date, however I am on April 1, 2017 build. I don't want to root or anything this time around, is there anything I can do?
Thank you
The only way you can update without rooting is to either borrow an AT&T SIM from a friend, or buy a prepaid SIM.

Thanks! That's BS though...............so does the prepaid need to be activated to update? Also, will it lock the phone back if I do?
Yes it is BS. I filed a complaint with the FTC over this very issue. I was told that when you buy a phone, and don't use it on the carrier it was designed for, then you have no right to updates.
Yes, the SIM needs to be active. This is where I *really* got irritated. If you buy a prepaid SIM and don't use it, you lose it. So, every time you want to check for updates, you have to add credit to the SIM.
Lastly, as far are relocking it -- I don't know -- it shouldn't, but you might want to be prepared if it does. I use my H910 on T-Mobile, but I have the unlock code if I ever needed to unlock it again, but the engineering aboot that is used to root unlocks the phone as well.

Just buy a few AT&T (Gophone) prepaid SIMs on ebay... for $2-$5... During activation you will have to choose a plan, but you don't have to pay anything... I chose plan code 03, and got activated with $0.00 balance... After that I had to complete 3 consecutive updates... went from H91010m to H91010r

I am also having similar issue. Bought at&t unlocked v20 from ebay. I live in Nepal. Now there is no way I could get software update. I am on December 2016 security patch. I have no other option than to sell the phone here now. If custom ROMs would be working great then I would never bother about this issue.

Still no update... and I lost $25 dollar for nothing....

I had already activated the SIM & IMEI in AT&T store.
It was still not finding the updates. I guess AT&T system will need several hours to register the IMEI and push the OTA updates.
I tried again today, by setting system clock several days forward, and it found the updates!
