Any battery monitor app works? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

As usual, BetterBatteryStats and Gsam Battery Monitor are among the first apps that I install on my new devices and I often use them to check what apps are eating my battery. The two apps worked perfectly on my non-rooted S9+ running OneUI (Android Pie) with some extra adb commands, but on this S10+ they both don't work; BBS says "No stats have been collected yet", GSam is laggy, only shows the %1, %0... and drains my battery like hell during screen off (4-5%/hour).
So has anyone succeeded in making any of the two apps work? Or are you using another app with the same function?

Thanks for opening this thread. Yes, I am having the exactly same experience like you.

I am experincing the exact same thing!
Thought I was going mental.

I'm running AccuBattery and CPU spy reloaded, both apps report that my phone never goes to deep sleep, but I can't define what causes it

The actual values seem to be fine, though. Mine uses under 1 percent per hour over night after disabling the sonos app - it is a disgrace ever since. Exynos, 512GB S9+.

I'm running accubattery and in my case it DOES register deep sleep. So the lack of feel sleep for some might be caused by another issue that actually blocks the phone from deep sleeping

had the same issue no deep sleep. but this solved the issue for me follow this steps.
go to settings - general - reset - dont factory reset - but reset all other 3 options. 1-network reset 2. accessibility reset. 3. all settings reset then redo the settings as per ur liking it ll fix the issue.

Same issue here, glad I'm not going crazy

What is your messured battery capacity? Mine is 3650-3700...of 4100...wtf?

I had this same issue, and I uninstall accubattery, install it again, and reset the battery calibration reading using that code after I cleaned system cache on recovery *#0228#, yesterday I decided to turn the device off as I though my battery was going full crazy downhill drainingtown (joke) and turn it on, left it on airplane mode overnight with bluetooth on, and it has not stabilise and accubattery does report deep sleep. Also I check the battery every 2-3 hours to see how is the drain. Running since 5 am european time at 34% now at 11% and it is 11:45 AM european time as I write this post

If it's based on charging from like 60 to 100, or 25-85 % and so on, it will only show you some rough estimates, far from real capacity possibly. 1-100 % charges are far more accurate. For what i see, Samsung is bullshiting with the 4100mAh capacity, or controller software is limiting it to about 3700-3800 regions. In the menu it clearly says- 4100 typical and 4000 minimum capacity...

It works on mine too, but only the basic stats. The problem only appears after the adb command is made. Have you used the command to enable more stats yet?

Don't forget the basic li-ion battery rules, one of them is that at least 5% of your total charge will be kept as reserve in case of overdraining, about 200mAh of your battery in this case are there to keep your battery rechargable, every battery powered device works like that, no need to accuse Samsung of anything regarding that aspect.

Sure...but i messured 3500 mAh on phone turned off...bit too much of a difference, hm? On the other hand, messuring iPhone 8 gave me almost exactly what was stated , the same with 20000mAh powerbank, messured even bit more...so i'd just encourage others to test and compare. 3h20min SoT also seems weak tbh...

How to Optimize battery drain?

Hello,
I use Tytung's ICS 4.0.4 for my T-Mobile HTC HD2 (NAND), I've been using this ROM for months.
As such there is no problem with functioning of the ROM.
But my battery drains at a very fast rate. With 6hrs of use it drains to 20% at lowest brightness and no major applications running (2 applications in background at most).
Data enabled (2G).
What to do? Please help!!
Sent from my T-Mobile HTC HD2 using XDA Premium.
Can you download CurrentWidget from the Play store and give a value in mA? If you mean 6hrs without any usage then that's pretty poor. Try turning on airplane mode to determine whether it's an app or one of your connections that's causing the problem.
In currentwidget, the values should be approximately 4mA drain in standby with any connections enabled and 2mA in standby in airplane mode. Screen on drain varies a lot more.
OK, thanks. will revert back soon.
With screen OFF, networks ON, 2g enabled....drain is 6mA.
With screen OFF, airplane mode ...drain is 5mA.
Sent from my T-Mobile HTC HD2 using XDA Premium.
That's high but shouldn't be causing a drain of 20% in 6 hours. It's probably just draining a lot when you're using the phone, and there's not much you can do other than turning the brightness down which you've done already.
try wiping battery stats through recovery...fully charge your battery then wipe stats and let your battery to get fully discharge before you connect it to a charger for about a week...My battery never lasted more than a half day before doing this...now it lasts more than a day...Hope this works
Okz.. will try this..hope this works.

I wonder if this myth will ever die..
Google engineer Dianne Hackberry has talked about several myths about the Android operating system, including wiping battery stats.
The reasoning behind that piece of advice was something like this: If you, at some point, did not charge your Android device fully (for example, only to 80%), it would supposedly remember that battery level as “fully charged” – in this case, you’d only ever get to use 80% of your battery, which is of course less than optimal. So, if you wipe the battery stats, usually done in ClockWord Mod Recovery, the device would “forget” the previous level, here 80%, and instead charge to the full 100% once again, thereby re-calibrating the battery. Or, as Hackborn puts it in more technical terms:
The battery indicator in the status/notification bar is a reflection of the batterystats.bin file in the data/system/ directory.
However, as she explains, that’s not the case. Because those battery stats, stored in the batterystats.bin file, are only used to maintain information about what is using the battery when not recharging. That is, it essentially holds the information displayed in the Settings > Battery screen. Nothing more, nothing less. Thus:
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
What’s more, you’ve probably noticed that the battery usage data is reset once you recharge your device anyway. From this you can correctly deduce that the battery stats are wiped as well – every time your device is recharged. More or less every day. If there was any effect, you would’ve noticed it without going into recovery and doing that stuff. Typical placebo, eh?
---
I’m as confused as a baby in a topless bar...
^Whenever someone asks 'how do I reduce my battery drain', ten people immediately jump in with 'CALIBRATE!!11oneeleven!'. No hate directed at whoever posted that advice here, I understand how easy it is to be misinformed (as I was about using SetCPU ), I just think that rumours like this are too easily presented as facts.

I would guess that many so called "battery saver" apps might have it, not really sure.
I don't turn off data when not in use automatically but I do use Tasker to turn it off for several hours while I sleep.

Yeah Tasker can do this but it's a paid app. Juice Defender is free and can also do the same thing in this case. I agree that Tasker is awesome but not necessarily for saving battery, more for ease of use.

Battery drain problems with my Verizon galaxy s7 edge

So I recently bought an s7 edge from Verizon and it has horrible battery life compared to other people with the same phone. I went to Verizon with this issue and all they did was give me another phone in exchange for the previous one but that did not help. Sometimes the battery drops 12 percent on standby overnight. I have found a few apps which have been draining my battery but I unfortunately cannot disable them: gear vr service, help, and knox use over 12 percent of battery each. I wish I could root the phone but no roots are out for the snapdragon version. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Can't you just use disabler pro to disable those apps
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Im really amazed how people just go to lets say phone provider and say that they dont like the phone and they get a new one . In Poland I think this kind of thing just wouldnt work. Especially that at the moment this phone is sold out and i was luck to get mine so fast.

Yah I saw it before
Do you have AOD on at night? That will burn through some battery.
Those three apps are interesting. How did you determine they're using a lot of battery?
When I look at them in the application manager each one says it's used 17% of battery since the phone was fully charged (24 hours ago). But that can't be accurate. Added together, they'd use more than 50% of my battery capacity, but they don't show up as individual apps in my battery stats, and the largest user (Android System) only used 30%.
Can you post some screen captures of the battery usage screen showing the apps using data? You might also try force charging to 100%, then force closing those apps, and see if there's any impact on battery life. If not, then it might be worth trying Package Disabler Pro. But most Edge owners seem to be getting good battery life, so I don't think that should be necessary.
I am getting the same drain (S7 edge verizon). It only drains my battery at my dorm wifi and when I go home it's fine. I don't think it's a Samsung issue since my LG G3 with a 6500mah battery can't even last two days on standby.

high idle battery drain

So coming from a LG v30 to this I been experiencing high battery drain when leaving the phone idle (screen off) at night. I had left it at 24% and woke up with it having 7%. Anyone else having this issue. On the v30 I could leave it at 5% and it'll hold that charge until the next morning. Any ideas

Has anybody tried tools like Accubattery etc to determine the true mAh of the battery?

Yes, mine shows the same. It has shown around 93% since I got my phone. There's another post with several people claiming the same.

Accubattery does not work for showing an accurate battery % on the OnePlus phones.
Well known issue that has never been addressed, so don't use it for that.
You could manually set the battery size to be the same as it is showing to monitor wear, but that's about it.

Answer - 3c battery

Gsam says Bluetooth heavy batery drain, system says only 1%

Btw It says 72% in 11 hours because i had the phone with justo the screen off all the night, but It normally says i have around 4 hours of screen time. But as i said in the title, gsam says that, it may be that im misunderstanding what the percentages mean, because my settings use of batery says another thing.
I recently flashed the Evolution X ROM, but It was the same with the oxygenos 11 stock rom
EDIT: i justo checked gsam percentages are how much time It was used, not how much of the batery It has used, so nevermind
EDIT 2: Still, i think 4 hours of screentime is still too low, could It be that my battery is damaged??
Add the application permission to access full battery statistics and then you will see which services are related to BT performance.
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.gsamlabs.bbm android.permission.BATTERY_STATS

You are using a custom rom. I dont use this phone for a month anymore but the last time i used it auto brightness was broken on custom roms and no fix in sight. So display was the biggest battery drainer.
This was never the case on OOS roms.
Anyway for me the battery of the op8pro was some of the disadvantages. Im now using the Nothing Phone 1 and its like day and night.
Nothing is focusing on software optimisation and you can feel it.

I don't use auto brightness no I don't know, i always set brightness to 50% and pretty much never change it. Anyway, this custom ROM is amazing, is super smooth and one of the best experiences I've ever had with a phone. After some use the battery is not as good but it isn't bad either so i will stick to this until my phone fully breaks or something.

I was on their A13 Evo X and my battery life was bad. I went back to AICP A12 which is an excellent rom also.

Do you remember how much battery duration you had from one full charge with Evo x and with AICP??

I guess the biggens drain was when it was supposed to sleep like being in your pocket or face down. The battery just click down no matter what I did. I did not let it drain since I am a full charge freak.
In contrast AICP barely uses anything when the screen is on AOD. My phone has been on for 15 hours right now and is at 47% with about 6 hours of use. I think if I didn't charge on the EVO X rom, it want last about 8 hours under the same conditions. I like the rom and wish I could use it but I have a weird feeling like I am being ripped off when my battery drains that fast.

Same, but the rom is so smooth and since the battery is still better than stock i'll keep this rom until i really need to flash another one because of the battery life
