I just chatted with Eonon and they told me that none of their units show the backup camera while it's booting... That's a blow considering all of my vehicles have android headunits and this seems to be the only brand that doesn't have this as an option. I don't have my MCU and ROM info handy but, has there been any discussion about ways to show a backup camera during boot on units that don't have it working out of the box? Unfortunately there are no other sellers who have the "flat face" head unit for my Range Rover, so I'm at the mercy of the unit I have installed.
Thanks.
EDIT: It's an Eonon GA8201A if that makes a difference.
What's wrong with it showing the reverse camera upon reverse? While booting seems odd, especially when the OS is having to load.
Nothing else works while its booting so i wouldnt expect the camera to be any different, what model range rover do you have ?
I just fitted an Eonon GA2175 to my D3/LR3 but yet to route the camera cabling.

I has nothing to do with the OS loading and so on. It is normally activated by the reverse gear. Than it gets an electrical signal and the camera video is simply going over everything else. No OS interference at all.
So it could display on start if you have the gear in reverse.
If you do not have the gear in reverse it will not show. I don't know any unit that does this when not in reverse: OS loaded or not. Because it is not controlled by the OS, but by the electrical signal when in reverse.
This is from a central electrical signal: If it would function it would also mean that upon starting, whith the car not in reverse, also the reverse backlights would be on. That would be confusing and thereby dangerous.
Does your webcam work while the PC booting ? , no because the os still has to load before any peripherals will work which is no different to the head unit regardless if you select reverse or not.
My head unit displays the reversing signal through the OS. The Android firmware automatically switches depending on the reverse line. The only way I could see this working the way you say is by using the output of the head unit to the display + the reverse camera and then using a relay to switch between them. Completely separating the OS from the camera feed.
Its wrong design from eonon if this is the case.
The rear signal in all other px5 or a3 or a8 units is controlled by the mcu so when you switch the key and you put reverse no matter what the addon android card does it switches to rear camera.
I dont believe they had done that and you must wait the android to boot ...

I have one of the latest Joying 2GB Sofia headunits, don't think it really matters which one.
What I do not have is a reversing camera and as I am not driving a bus or heavy goods vehicle I don't intend to get one.
So my questions are
1. Can change or tweak something so when I put the car in reverse the screen doesn't change (I know I could cut the reverse wire to the headunit but I like the feature which reduces the volume when reversing)
2. If the above is not possible is there a way to remove the reversing lines which show on the black screen when I am reversing? I am aware that there is an option for this but if I disable the revering lines in the settings I get a black screen with green text saying "no signal" when reversing.
Thanks
Test the wire, maybe is defective
FOr me works perfectly with Opel Joying 2gb
I have encountered the same issue. I do realize that if I leave the car in reverse long enough eventually there will be signal. The weathet has became cold I am not sure if there's anything to do with it

Hi All,
I just got this unit from amazon. I have the quad core 2GB RAM 16GB ROM 10.1" version which came with Android 8.1. Installation was easy and the unit seems very nice and fast enough but when ever I try to open an app like spotify or youtube or even OBD apps the screen goes black with "DO NOT operate while driving" error. I tried installing a third party launcher and it caused this error every time I tried to go to the home screen. Google maps does not cause this issue.
I currently wired the rear cable to ground just in case wiring causing the issue but that did not help. Under the settings there is no option in the video section which would allow me to turn off this error. Overall the rom on this as is looks half baked missing bunch of options. I do not even have a system update option for me to flash a different firmware.
Any suggestions that could help me get rid of this annoying issue and use this unit properly?
Thank you all.
Seems nobody cares but I finally figured out the solution. Under settings>car options>about there is another settings button. If you select that and enter "8888" it will take you to the deep settings menu where in drive options you change "Break" to "0". This will get rid of this bug permanently.
Thanks in anyways.
I care
I just had the same exact problem with the same radio
thanks so much for taking the time to update your post!
Do you have anymore information on tips and tricks for this radio?
Hi, tried this on my mekede head unit, took a few minutes to figure out which menu to follow and the part to alter but it worked great. Awesome. Cheers
Eonon ga2168k
Good job on figuring it out... I went through this with the same exact head unit...
Let me expand on this "problem" a little further please...
So most head units now are more than just a radio/CD player ..specifically ones with DVD players (or ones that can play any video really) the manufacturers can be held liable for people getting into an accident while driving because they were watching a movie or had a movie playing (Cant fix stupid) on their head unit located on the dash (as well as it being illegal in most (if not all) states in the USA).
REAR DVD players are exempt from this because... well they are in the rear... and not in the driver's line of sight.
With that being said, one wire on the harness that came with this unit (wire #23 I think) is labeled " BRAKE CONTROL" - IF (a big IF here) EONON set this up like most other head unit manufacturers that make an in dash DVD/video display, this wire needs to be connected to the brake switch so that it receives a signal saying that the brake is "on" and the vehicle is not moving...therefore "SAFE" to operate this unit (watch a movie, video, make setting changes, brew you a cup of coffee, paint your nails etc etc etc......)
Because there is NO REALLY good diagram for wiring this to the brake switch... you are left with a guess as to how it is to be done. (Should just be a positive connection from parking brake to wire.... I think... I guess...)???
This brake safety feature has been in other units for years and a LOT of people negate this circuit (I wont list the ways... it's easy to figure out) I even know of some car installers that worked for a national electronic retail store that would "bypass" this circuit in the customer's cars.
I am glad Eonon put this programming control into the back end of the unit because I, (having installed a few radios in numerous vehicles I have owned) REALLY didnt want to go through the trouble of bypassing the circuit... so shutting it off, on The unit was just as well for me. 1 less wire to worry about.
Just go into the root menu as stated above, and select "BRAKE" then adjust to 0. This removes all enable/disable requirements for that circuit.
Great unit so far... wish Eonon would spend more time writing a more informative instruction manual.. and maybe hire an American or British to actually write the darn thing so people could understand it.
Hope this helps.
I have the same unit but I can't get the panel to light up. Anyone knows how to wire to the car to get the panel to light up?

Panel as in the buttons not on the touch screen? (Ie power, volume up volume down )
Wire (I believe its orange or blue in color if my memory serves me well) regardless it has a tag on it that says "ILL" or ILLUM... that's for illumination. You need to figure out what wire in your car is for illumination for the stereo... if you cant, run a wire from your headlight switch that controls the parking light. USUALLY, there is a wire for the stereo to make it light up when the headlights are turned on. You just need to find it.

Yep. In the Eonon harness, it's an Orange wire with a tag on it that says "ILL". just hook it to any wire that feeds your dash lights.
Dears,
anybody tried Eonon GA2178 - 10" Android 9 Head Unit?
I'm actually on Eonon GA2168K - 10" Android 8 Head Unit, it's a good device with minor problems.
Anytime developers fix a problem they introduce an other problem and there's no community support for MTK chipsets.
Because of this I'm evaluating the new Eonon GA2178, that is quite similar but based on Rockchip chipset.
Tks!
Brake setting
On my Ga2172 the brake setting shows open close or speed, so which is it to watch video on the move?
Hello everyone,
Been reading for many years this great forum. Now I've decided to make a post, as I could not find any relevant thread about my issue.
I have a VW Tiguan, with factory parking sensors installed and some weeks ago I installed an Android head unit. It is a Chinese brand called Eunavi with Android 9.
The unit is quite good for the money (it is called Eunavi 2 din 9'' Android 8.1 9.0 TDA7851 Car Radio Stereo for AliExpress), but I come up to the following issue:
Before installation of the unit, I had the LCD car stereo that came with the car by VW. When I was putting the reverse gear, the LCD screen would come on and display the parking sensors for front and back. This specific screen would stay ON, until either the parking brake would be turned on (meaning: the car is parked) or the speed of the car would be over say 10km/hour (meaning: the car is unparked and going).
The new android headunit now, does not work like this. When the reverse gear is on, the parking sensor screen is also turned on. But all the other conditions are not considered, so when you are simply trying to park or unpark, you are only able to see the sensors screen only when in reverse gear and not if you are going forth.
My car has this parking system also working with the push of button that is enabled with the reverse gear and goes off the way I mentioned.
Do you know if I would be able to connect the cable for the reverse gear from the unit to that specific button?
Or, even better, Is there any other way to programmatically add the specific conditions to that parking sensors screen of the unit?
Kind regards,
Panagiotis
Hi, Could you please tell me did you ever managed to fix this issue and how? I have a same problem.
Me too, but with aftermarket parking sensors. I can't connect them to android unit display. Reverse camera works fine.
Hi There,
I have installed a generic android 10.1 - 2GB (RAM)+32GB (ROM) unit and have an issue with the reverse camera.
When in reverse, screen blanks out but no image.
I have had the unit and the camera replaced and have had 2 experienced installers look at the problem but no fix.
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix the problem?
Also, do you think a 12V DC Kit Power Relay Filter Rectifiers Capacitor may help?
Thanks in advance

The radio shows the blank black screen because the radio gets no video signal.
This can be related to 2 different things:
Missing 12V power at the camera.
Measure the cam connection for ground and +12V if your reverse gear is activated.
If there is missing something, you need to follow the cable and check the connections.
The fact that the black screen is shown, tells us that the radio itself is connected correctly.
Wrong CAM-In port used.
Check if you really used the CAM-In and not the Video-In connector
The capacitor is normally not helpful if you don´t get a video signal.
You don´t tell us in your posting how the power is provided to the cam. So that may help for further investigation.

The power to the cam is provided by connecting the positives from the camera to the reverse light positive input and the negative earthed. This is then connected to the android head unit, video input and the reverse cable.

Did you check that the Cam is connected to the CAM-IN connector at the unit?
...and did you measure the voltage delivered to the cam?
Which car are you driving? Does it have LED back lights?
Does the cam deliver a picture if you connect it directly to +12V instead of using the back light?
Without measuring, there is no need to answer from your side. This is mandatory to step forward.
i have the same issue. reverse camera show during installation but after few hours no image. only can see the lines. i connect the rca to my tv.it show reverse image .
I already wrote it in another topic. You need to use search instead of a new topic.. I don't know which car and which head unit. I had a VW Golf 6 powered by the reversing light and there was interference, stripes across the image. There are suppressors for powering from the reversing light, also on AliExpress. But the better option is mine. I found a pin on my main unit directly for powering the backup camera, which has 12v when I put it in reverse. It works perfectly, without interference or problems. I have a Can-Bus system. I'll put the pin-out of my unit here. Maybe it will help you.
And what about the black image after putting it in reverse, either there is no 12v power supply for the camera, or the input for the camera is incorrect.. use the cinch Reverse Cam input, do not plug into the cinch Cam-in this it is used for the front camera. Another option is to set the main unit for the backup camera, maybe the system is NTSC and it is set to PAL, or vice versa, depending on where you come from. Another option is to set the input of the backup camera type AHD, and the camera is normal, SD, I I tried the AHD type (better quality) and the picture was black. Inform us.
I got some issued on my android car head unit. No video input, on reserse.
Usinf canbus cable pink for electricity.

Hi please, I need help to fix my andriod HU camera. I followed seller guidance to install and wire the device but it does not automatically switch on when I shift to reverse gear. And I had to install an andriod camera from playstore as I could not find any installed camera. When I manually open the camera in reverse, it work but the image starts from my left side instead of the center. The trajectory line appear from left to right. Can someone help? See pictures.

You need to connect pin G5 on the head units power connector to your reverse light power supply. This triggers the reverse camera to automatically display.
You should uninstall the Android camera app you have downloaded as it isn't needed.
These head units are vertical/portrait by default but have been modified to rotate everything by 90° to operate in horizontal/landscape mode. That's probably why your 3rd party camera app is sideways.
You should be able to view the reverse camera in 1 of the preinstalled apps. Try the app called "AV" or something similar.
Thank you for your response. I apprciate this. But I think I have connected the wires already as you advised. I had one PINK wire labelled BACK and one BROWN wire extending from the power. I connected these two wires to a RED wire extending from the Camera input. So, when I put gear on Reverse and manually open camera, it works but the image is inverted. I have uninstalled the playstore camera but the reverse gear does not trigger the (invisible) in-built camera.
The only pre-installed APP I have that could use a camera is TV. Also I do not have a canbus hency why I joined all wires together. I have also tried using just one wire, the same result. Is there a way I can rotate the camera orientation? I have been frustrated with setting this up. I have tried updating the MCU but no luck with the camera.

Is unit an FYT type? Post Android system information including MCU version
If you have a multimeter check that the wire you connected to pin 5 has 12v when you engage reverse. If it doesn't then it is wired incorrectly.
Yes it does have 12V. I'm thinking it has something to do with the software. Maybe there is no preinstalled camera that is programmed to appear when in reverse and also to remain vertically orientated. I think youbare right that these HUs are setup to open every single apps in horizontal mode and that includes third party camera. Question: Do headunits come with their own camera app? Mine did not come with a default camera software.
