I screwed up and wiped my dads phone. I thought maybe I could recover some of the photos, so I downloaded an app called Diskdigger. It needed root to access the internal storage, so off I went and flashed Magisk, only for the phone to fail to boot... crap! So I flashed the stock rom here from @Jleeblanch: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-oreo-8-1-0-soak-test-t3873367
And then I flashed Magisk 18.1.
Everything worked, so I downloaded the Diskdigger app again and scanned the internal storage. It didn't find any of the lost photos... but it did find several screenshots of my screen that had been taken since I had flashed the new rom! What the heck are these screenshots???
I downloaded them onto my pc, but it wont open them :S

Hi, posted this in the wrong sub forum at first. Guess I was just flustered a bit by my panic.
But yeah... So... basically I rooted my sprint S4, and I put Goomanager, TWRP, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 on it. I downloaded all the files and installed all of it what I thought was the correct place. So I cleared all my data in TWRP and flashed Cyanogenmod and what I thought was the correct and most recent gapps, then I rebooted it. Seemed fine but I have no Google accessibility no contacts/apps/play store nothing. Ok fine just go back and reflash gapps and I'm gold... Turns out I did not have goomanager/twrp on my sd card so they are gone. So i have no custom recovery to load my backup of my factory settings, no way to download goomanager on my phone (I even tried the akp file and it just say "unfortunately google play has stopped") and can't find files to flash them on in ODIN mode even... HELP!!!
Any answers or help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm confused. How did you clear all your data in TWRP and flash CM/gapps if you don't have TWRP installed?
Anyways, you can get the TWRP tar file here to flash in ODIN: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/178
Here's how I spent my last night.
I have I9500. I decided to downgrade from 5.1.1 CM, did wipe, flashed MIUI. Didn't liked it - wiped - flashed CM 4.4.2 11-20140217.
First sign of a problem were black previews in default Gallery (I can't say if it was on MIUI or CM); then I tried to install xposed and got error. It become evident that my /Android/data/ is read-only (my camera was crashing on startup, browser - when I tried to download file).
I tried to change permissions via Root Explorer -> got an error ("Can't change permission, possibly you have file system that don't allow that."). I Googled, tried some apps, without success. Tried various terminal commands, a lot - with same result. Then I formatted all partitions via recovery (they all was ext4). Fixed permissions. Installed CM nad Gapps again - no result. I wanted to format my phone via PC, but coudn't figure out how to mount it as Mass Storage.
Flashed this (Google: "internal storage is completely write protected please help", first link) - didn't helped.
Help, please. I'm at my wits end.
Sorry for grammar.
P.S.
Yeah, I totally forgot - last option I'm gonna use is flash original firmware via Odin. Problem is it's kinda heavy, and my internet is not so good.
***
I flashed it, broke my modem. Still no access. T_T
***
Flashed again with pit file, gallery and some other apps works now; wiped, installed CM - not working again. Anyone?
***
Flashed with pit again... Installed some apps, in a hour that happened again. Maybe because of some system apps I used. Restored backup, nothing changed. T_T
Help anyone:'(

Fixed access issue^.^
Hey Guys. So the other day I decided that I wanted some themes to customize my phone more so I decided on flashing CM 12 on my rooted phone using TWRP. So I went into TWRP and hit wipe. I saw that it would not delete internal storage so I thought "okay" I need to delete that too. So i did an advanced wipe and basically deleted everything. (I know that was stupid of me!) So then I found out that I also deleted the OS. I can't get into download mode but I can still access TWRP. I also have a 32GB SD Card.
Is there any way to flash stock OS from my SD Card using TWRP?
Any Help would be appreciated!
THANKS!!!
Not stock, but another version 5.1.1
see:
http://androidforums.com/threads/5-...nd-walmart-family-mobile.983522/#post-7177820
So i probably did something stupid.
I wanted to root my oneplus 5, so i updated it to last oxygenos 5.0.1 and copied all necessary stuff to pc.
After that unlocked the bootloader, got the phone to fastboot and flashed twrp 3.2.1-0.
Somewhy i couldn't access internal storage from twrp, it said its 0 mb and sdcard folder was empty, however i put magisk 15.3 there before, so i googled for a while and found that it probably couldn't mount storage. so this is where i probably did stupid thing by formating and fully wiping the phone. after that i could mount the storage, but the files were gone so i just put them there again. After that installed magisk and booted to system only to find myself in recovery again. So i though that i completely wiped the phone with the rom, so i downloaded the latest oxygenos and put it on the phone to install from twrp but it just doesnt install. returns error 7, which is, as google says, has somehting to do with asserts, it suggested to remove them form updater-script file, but opening it doesnt show any asserts in it. So here i am with phone with twrp and no rom at all. What do i do? Please help
tl;dr: I have OnePlus 5 with twrp 3.2.1-0 after complete wipe, and it cant install oxygenos because of error 7
Edit: only after posting noticed that there's a help thread, sorry for that. problem is not fixed though
Try a different TWRP.
update
thanks for suggesting different recovery. first tried older versions of twrp with no success, then tried twrp blu spark and it got a different error, something to do with unlocked bootloader. so i edited updater-script file and it installed normally. so i now have a clean oneplus 5 with oxygenos 5.0.1
will try to install magisk again, hopefully wont wipe everything again
update
yeah, everything worked. installed magisk and got root. but it always says 'install' inside magisk manager, is this normal?
saw that it should say 're-instal' in yt videos
It's normal.
Magisk updates regularly, those YouTube videos don't get updated.
I bumped into the same problem as mentioned by hyro28..
Please explain how to "update updater-script file " -- where is the file found, how to update it? I am new to this, would appreciate detailed instructions -- links, written instructions, videos, etc Thanks!
Hi, I'm new to rooting. A week ago or so I installed Pixel Experience Rom to my device but didn't liked it to much and my phone was constantly freezing for a second or so. I decided to go back to Oxygen OS with android 9 but keep the TWRP as my recovery and root my phone with Magisk.
Anyways today I got this notification saying that after phone downloads and install the software update my phone will reboot and unroot itself and I should back up my data. /a/DWgVyTK (imgur link)
After using my phone with root I liked it better this way. Anyways because I'm beginner level on this topic I don't know what should I do. I don't want to set up my phone again from the start after the update and I like root but I want my software to be latest as well. Is there any other way to install the update without deleting everything on phone?
Also if I download the latest software update can I flash it with TWRP without deleting anything on phone? Or back up my things with TWRP and install the software and use that back up to get everything back together again? Little bit help would be appreciated.

Questions about your Oneplus 5:
What's your current OxygenOS version?
What's the version you want to install?
For OxygenOS Open Beta just follow instructions in the first post here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-beta-1-android-oreo-t3710003
For stable OxygenOS here in the first post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
There's no need doing an ota update, cause rom files are mirrored on xda

Thank you very much for answering. I tried dirty rom installing but twrp is not seeing my device's internal memory. I'm guessing that it's because oxygen os encrypts my phone when i enter the system after installation. It happened earlier as well when I tried to install oxygen os and root my phone and the time i tried to install pixel experience rom. I decided not to do clean installation as of now because I don't want to loose my data. (i certainly can get back everything on my phone but it usually takes few hours for that). Is there any other way to unencrypting the phone without wiping everything off?
My current oxygen os version is 9.0.2
I was trying to install 9.0.3.

With which recovery and rom are you able to access your internal storage?

I've only tried using TWRP as my recovery, Pixel experience rom and oxygen os rom. The thing is because upon entering the phone after flashing a rom you can't access the internal storage of the phone with TWRP because phone encrypts itself. That means I can't dirty flash it and need to wipe everything out with TWRP then reboot TWRP again and install new rom after that flash magisk and reboot to system and set everything up from the scratch.
When I started this thread I didn't knew how to dirty flash a rom. Now I know and realize the problem I'm having is phone's encryption.
UPDATE:
I have used this guide to disable encryption on my phone. (I tried putting the link to the guide but for some reason i can't. It was on Custom Droid about how to remove one plus 5's encryption) I wiped everything on my phone with TWRP, installed the new OTA with Oxygen OS 9.0.3, flashed the file they provided on the guide, started system, went through steps and checked my encryption status and it was still encrypted.
Entered recovery again and wiped everything once more. Installed Magisk entered my system. (I was wiping everything down because otherwise TWRP wasn't able to see my device's storage), went through all the steps again. Installed Magisk's apk. Checked my root status. Everything was okay but still my phone was encrypted. Downloaded latest version of the Magisk. Wiped everything down once more installed Magisk. Rebooted into my system to see my phone's encryption was still there. At this point I gave up and started restoring my apps, data and everything with it.
Now I can't update my software whenever I want because TWRP won't see my device's storage because of encryption. Basically dirty flashing isn't available for me.
Have you guys tried and find a solution for this? If so please let me know. I would highly appreciate it.

To prevent the OxygenOS to encrypt your phones storage you need to flash no verity patch before first boot(instructions). But coming from a custom rom requires to format internal storage, otherwise it won't work.

I already gave you the link to instructions how to flash stable oxygenOS in the 2nd post https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003/post72799040
Just follow the CLEAN FLASH INSTRUCTIONS and on the 2nd last step you flash that patch which prevents you from encrypted storage.

I've already tried the clean flash instructions. However I flashed the patch before magisk last time I tried it but it didn't work. Maybe because my order was wrong. Since I don't have much time right now. I'm going to try that once again tomorrow this time exactly like on the guide. I will let you know about the results.
Thank you very much again. I really appreciate your help.

Remember to format the internal storage exactly written in the instructions and then flash the no verity patch, otherwise it will not work.

I was looking for other threads in this sub section. I saw this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/help/twrp-encryption-t3889161
I flashed codeworkx twrp like you said on that thread. Now I can decrypt the phone. TWRP asks me for screen password and when I entered it, it showed me the internal memory. Now I can see my device's internal memory from recovery without wiping out everything.
My previous TWRP was twrp-3.2.3-0-cheeseburger.img
Installed twrp-3.2.3-0-20181227-codeworkx-nocompatcheck-cheeseburger.img via twrp app on my phone like you said on that thread. Thank you very much again.
