Hi everyone,
I bought a secondhand S8 but I am confused what version is it. Under "About Phone", it says the model is a SM-G950F. When I did a IMEI check online, it says it a SM-G950UZSASPR
So which model do I have exactly? A SM-G950F or a SM-G950U? It only has 1 slot for SIM card and the other for SDCard. I suspect it might have the wrong firmware inside? But the phone doesn't look like it has been rooted.
Should I be changing the firmware to something that I can use in my country (Singapore)? If so, how can I go about doing it and which version of firmware should I use? Will samsung pay not work if I root the phone and change the firmware?
Thanks in advance.

Install Phone Info Samsung from the play store.
Link here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
From there take a look at your "CSC CODE" tab, should give you the country and what carrier specific model/sw is installed.
I would update it to your country specific sw if possible.
If you root, you will not have Samsung Pay. I am not sure if majisk can hide it enough to use, maybe someone else can chime in on that more thoroughly.
Thanks. I have installed the Phone INFO app. Here is what I see:

Looks like you have options if you wish:
Singapore (XSP)
Singapore (MM1)
Singapore (SingTel) (SIN)
Singapore (StarHub) (STH)
I'm not too familiar with how you would need to change it, if it's even required at all. My method, me being located in the US, is much more complicated than what you would need to do. Hopefully someone else can give you more input or send you in the right direction.

There was a Hong Kong variant that was Snapdragon for the S8
The only true method would to be remove the back glass and check model of mother board
Exactly! That is what I am confused about.

Anyone can guide me? I am still confused. I want to load in the latest official firmware, but I still don't know what is the true model of my phone. The phone doesn't seem to be rooted, but it cannot pass safetynet test. I have a CTS Profile Match Fail error when I used root checker app. What should I do?
I boot into download mode, but I am not getting much information there. This is what I am seeing:

It appears to be a Sprint version. But with Odin and csc files and matching sim card you can make it any us carrier
Thanks guys. The phone is indeed a SM-G950U. I managed to used Odin and flash SM-G950U1 firmware onto it. I used the XAA version with a local non-US SIM. Samsung pay seems to be working. However there is no option to enable VOLTE and the FM radio.
U1 firmware are lacking those features...

So I have checked far and wide across the net as to what I am suppose to do. First of all here is my device info:
Bootloader version: I337UCUEMK2
Baseband version: I337UCUEMK2
PDA version: I9500XXUEMJ9
CSC version: I9500XXUEMJ9
Product code: Not Active
Phone Model: GT-I9500
Build number: ORG.I9500XXUEMJ9
Modem Board: MDM8215M
Android Version: 4.3
I would like to update to KitKat 4.4.2 as I checked sammobile and there is a 4.4.2 firmware for my country despite not purchasing the device in my country (Jamaica). The dilemma I face though is that I'm not sure if it is a GT-I9500 firmware should be installed or a SGH-I337 firmware as you can see the bootloader is that of a I337 and the PDA version is I9500. Also would it affect me if I flash a different firmware from the one I have. I've tried updating through Kies but there is no update and I also tried OTA which proved unsuccessful as well as there were no updates. What should I do?
What is written in download mode? That's your phone model.

So I booted into download mode or odin mode and it says this:
Product name: SGH-I337
Current Binary: Samsung official
System status: Official
Knox Kernel: 0x0
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
Write protection: Enable
eMMC Burst Mode enabled
How can the phone be an I9500 and then in odin mode say it is a SGH-I337. Also of note when I tried updating via OTA it was the AT&T update checker came up and said there was no update. Was it that the phone was flashed with an AT&T rom?
Any updates for this? I suffer from the same problem. Thanks!

It's not really a problem. My guess is that you are running a custom rom where someone just edited the device info to a i9500. Or you are running stock but someone just changed the model name. No big deal. I can also name my phone anything that I want.
I bought my phone on ebay, which comes with AT&T rom. However, baseband and pda version is the same as jojosilvera. When I check online it seems that device is from Israel where KitKat update hasn't been released there (wtf). So I don't know what to do.

Flash with Odin.
That was something I wanted to avoid. The seller offered me a return. Why would untouched firmware would be like this? Should I return it when I have the chance or just root & flash with another ROM? Thanks btw

Hello guys. I am from chile and i am new here and would you mind help me with a problem in my Galaxy S5?
I bought this phone in aliexpress. I guess the hardware is genuine. But the software have some weird thing.
My phone is G900F version. But in the Download mode the version is G900T?? Is that wrong?
Also, in the menu of android recovery system is G900T too. But when i extract the battery i can see Model: G900F
I am not sure what is the correct model, and i think that the software was modified, because Knox is 0x1.
Yesterday, i treid to update the Android from 4.4.2 to 5.0 with Odin using an oficial ROM from Sammobile. I used a ROM G900F, but the process failed every time.
Is the Android Recovery Modified? What is the correct model? I think that correct model is G900F because is appears behind the phone but now i am not sure, and still i cant update to lollipop
I wait for your help
Thanks

it sounds like they had a G900T phone that probably had no battery or a crappy one and decided to switch it with a battery from a G900F model for whatever reason. I'm sure the phone itself is a G900T, but it's hard to tell.
They could also have flashed a G900T ROM on a G900F, i think.
IMEI Info
Days ago i checked the IMEI info about my phone. The website say that the model is G900T
But it is weird. IMEI, Download mode and system recovery say: G900T, but Behind the phone (extracting the battery) i see G900F and in Settings: About Device: base band is G900F, compilation number is 2jia478.G900F and model number SM-G900F.
¿What is the correct version? Because when I tried update manually to lollipop with a ROM G900F, Odin said: FAILED.
¿Have I to try with G900T ROM? Because G900T ROM from sammobile is for T-Mobile and It is for USA and I am from Chile.
Is there a problem with that? (Doesnt exist ROM G900T for Chile, just for USA)

First, you should boot to download (Odin) mode and read the "Product nane" there to understand which phone model you have.
Generally, any S5 is upgradable to 6.0.1.
Concern is that if it's some how flashed as a 500f and originally a 500 v
Used basics like phone checker
Refurbishment check and we'll I think this phone will be going back
Invalid Samsung serial number
Manufacture date does not match serial number
6.1 or higher I'd be happy with so newer even . It's just the problems I could occur as it's a Heinz 57 phone by all accounts . 57 varieties all mixed into one lol

Well, it's Verizon's phone.
There's a nice SM-G900V section on this forum here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/
The simplest way to upgrade is to flash the latest Verizon firmware with Odin. You can download it here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850486654
Then you may like to use this application http://www.packagedisabler.com/ to disable Verison's bloatware. Probably, you'll need to set up APN manually.
The second, more complicated way, is to flash a custom firmware.
thanks for the reply
actually returned the phone and now have a replacement .
s5 but its 900f
all checked and legitimate
it was french sfr
whats the best i can do with this ?
its running 6.1
but maybe other options are available that work well in the uk
im on 3 network
i was contemplating if a 3 uk rom could be used or a standard rom not linked to any network ? so no bloat ware ?
only thing ive done so far is root with odin and auto root which was easy to do

Failure Device: 4 Binary: 2'. means you are trying to flash a firmware which is lower than what is on your phone.
You will need a binary ( bootloader ) version 4 or higher. It will be the 5th number from the right of the firmware being downloaded.
