Where to begin....
I have had my wiz for about a year now (maybe longer) and everything was running fine. Nothing special installed really. I've Sim and CID unlocked, flashed to 1.1 and then flashed again to Mr. Frazzz's XDA Mobile 6 (awesome btw) and had been running that for quite some time with battery status as the only other thing I've really added.
One night I was out and managed to hit my touch screen on a table and it shattered. Things ran fine for a while (could still see considering the touch is seperate from the LCD) and managed to use it as a phone using shortcut keys. Then i started getting problems like slowing down etc and I figured it was partially due to the duress of a cracked touch screen making the phone think it was having a part of the screen pushed (or not there) so i finally had the screen, both the touch and lcd, replaced. Shortly after, I noticed the phone would freeze up randomly. (this is also about the time i switched from t-mobile to at&t prepaid) Sometimes it would do it 3 or 4 times a day and the only remedy is removing the battery. Sometimes it will go for over a week without any issues. Any ideas? Im ready to melt it.
Here's what I've done thus far with no results:
Reflashed to official t-mobile 2.26 and then flashed to Mr. Frazzz's WM6. I've re-installed battery status and then came across a thread stating that the latest version of which might be causing hangups....so i gimped it at first, using only settings I had known to work before with no issues and later uninstalled the whole thing. Still having the same problems.
I have the WM6 radio fix for cingular and 2.69.11 radio as well.
One thing I do notice is that, everytime i make a call and receive the system message stating what that call had cost me, it can cause weird things to happen if I was in the process of doing something else. Not sure that's part of the issue though considering the phone will just be sitting in my pocket when it does randomly freeze.
Is it possible that my mem card is just being jostled and causing issues? or that somehow the powerbutton is being adversely affected inside my pocket if the phone gets flipped upside down? Anyone and everyone's imput would be greatly appreciated, especially if Mr. Frazzz has any input. BTW, this has happened using both WM6r3 and r5 by Mr. Frazzz. I upgraded to r5 this last time i reinstalled WM6.
I'm guessing battery status is doing it. Same thing happended to me, did a hard reset, installed all my programs again excluding battery status and everything is fine.
Is there something else I can install that will overclock for me when the phone is active and kick down the speed when idle?
I also used battery status for the disable proxy thingie when wiFi is on.
Well...Overclocking is never safe and the manufacture of a cpu has clocked a cpu at a set speed. Why, because it is more stable. So anything past the stable speed will bound to be unstable. I overclock mine to 260 and still do not notice a boost so either you leave it at 195 and run smoothly or make it "faster" and have more issues. Your call.
Hi,
I have been using my HD2 with android for a long time without too much trouble. Not long ago, while still using SD builds I would find that my phone would often freeze, this would happen almost always while surfing the web or playing games or while putting the phone under heavy load. Using nand builds the issue has gotten even worse. Every single build I have tried is almost certain to freeze during the initial setup, even if I leave it alone and give it a long time to setup and stabilize. I have been using a stock gingerbread NAND build for a week or so and it just won't be stable. It freezes during games or surfing the web mostly (though upon first installing the build, almost anything might trigger a freeze, including scrolling through a menu). I have tried task 29, and many builds but they are all giving me this issue. Even the last WINMO rom I tried did the same. I am completely baffled by this and have no idea what could be wrong. Does any one have any advise?
Thanks
Pray that you're still under warranty???
If it does it in winmo, try flashing your original stock (From HTC) ROM. This will remove HSPL and any & all customisations. Make sure the phone is in it's 'from factory' state. If it STILL has freezing issues, you need to get it repaired. If not. Start installing ROMs again from scratch.
Hope This Helps.
Thanks for the response. Yeah, I have done everything except resort to the stock ROM.
I have noticed some interesting things about the crashing behavior. If the phone has been left alone for a while, it will be able to browse the web/ play games or do intensive tasks without crashing for a decent amount of time, however once it crashes , it will very likely crash right away after I reboot. I only notice the phone (battery) is quite warm around the time it starts the crashing. I hope my hardware is screwed up, would hate to give up this phone . I bought my phone on ebay, so I don't think I have warranty either. ugh
wtf, there is seriously no one else who has heard of this?
Bump.
Are you Overclocking it? Try Underclocking it to see if it is more stable. Maybe your hardware is failing. User currentWidget to see your current usage.
Maybe you're using too much ram. o.o
The phone will get really laggy if you use up all the ram, so clear it up with a task killer.
No overclock, running at 998 (stock) and smartass governor. Tried interactive governor and still does it.
Its just strange that it crashes left and right from doing anything when I first install a build and after a few reboots it stabilizes enough to be rock solid for all tasks except playing something like angry birds or surfing the web. I tried running quadrant 10 times in a row to stress the phone and it did fine.
Could the phone be overheating? I notice its almost always warm or hot when it crashes.

Actually this is exactly what you should do. Flash with a Stock ROM then Take29 then start over. Remember the Stock ROM has more than just the system ROM, it overwrite your RADIO and other stuff also that are not touched by custom ROM. so if you have some corruption at radio ROM the stock ROM should fix it.
- When I mean Underclocking: set MAX Frequency to 800 Mhz and see if it is more stable. just to find the root cause by elimination

I'll try to cap it at 800 Mhz and see if I can cause a crash. Regardless Its probably best to flash to stock rom.
Here is what I think I'll do:
Flash to stock rom.
Reflash HSPL
Task 29
Flash new radio
Flash MAGLDR
Flash new android rom
So I flashed 2.10.1 stock rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653
And it did not remove HSPL...though it reset my radio to 2.08.
So far things are not looking good. On the very first boot the stock winmo rom crashed and rebooted. Should I flash another winmo rom?
EDIT:
I've reflashed HSPL and also flashed the latest winmo stock rom with Radio 2.15 now. Running Android off the SD card, 2 minutes of angry birds is all it took it to freeze it. I'm starting to believe there must be some hardware damage or something, this is making no sense.
Even surfing the web in the stock winmo rom caused a reboot, the phone is getting quite hot too.
Having exact same problem... should i warranty it and send it in?

If you are lucky enough to still have warranty, do it. I don't have that option sadly.
So I have pretty much narrowed down the cause of the problem to overheating. I let the phone cool down to about 25c and then I ran angry birds and surfed the web and it didn't crash and I played for about 15 minutes. When the temp approaches about 37-40c, the chances of a crash become pretty high, once it crashes it will keep crashing left and right until I let it cool back down.
All evidence now points to an overheating problem. Especially because it is only intensive tasks which seem to cause crashes and only the more CPU/GPU intensive tasks can cause the phone to heat up fast.
Anyone else dealt with this issue? I have no other way to prevent this than to stop heavy use of the phone when it gets warm. This is ridiculous, next thing I know, I'll be walking around with a desktop CPU heatsink mounted on my HD2...
First post WOOO
I have been having a similar issue with my HD2 (Telstra). I was running darkstone on the SD card but occasionally my phone would freeze then I would have to restart a few times to get it working (or leave it for a while). I decided to install the android desire stock ROM using NAND. I changed the radio according to the recommended 2.15.50.14.. after I did this I had a lot of problems with frequent freezing even before installing the new ROM (so during the process). I did successfully install the stock ROM but I now have the issue where if I enable internet usage within about 5 minutes my phone will freeze (but only if I am using the phone). However if I use wi-fi or usb tethering I can use the net for anywhere between 5 minutes and 8-9 hours.
I also have the problem of freezing just after boot, but apart from that my phone has never frozen unless I enable internet usage. Furthermore, this issue only became frequent after changing radios. (for the life of me I can't remember what the previous radio was). When I have more stable internet access I'll try flashing a few different radio's...
But right now funnily enough.. I'm jumping between my phone internet and someones open network in my apartment block... both of which are very sporadic...
Hope this helps somewhat (or will at least..)
There are many threads regarding this issue. If you still have the problem after trying different radios and roms, then it is probably the mainboard.
Mine was also overheating and after I tried all possible fixes, I sent it for repair. They changed the mainboard and everything is OK now. No overheating at all.
Here's the rundown ...
Last night I was playing a little Nimble Quest before bed. I started to get tired so I quit out of the game and as I was turning the phone back into portrait mode the screen went black (still on) and seemingly froze. I let it chill for a bit, then it vibrated and I heard my notification sound. I let it go again and a few seconds later it did it again (vibrate/sound). This happened a couple more times before I decided to hold down the power button and attempt to shut it down. After holding the power down for about 5-6 seconds, the phone rebooted itself. It stayed on the CM boot screen for what seemed like 5 minutes--long enough for me to think it was bootlooping. Finally I saw the screen brightness lower and the lockscreen came up. My background was there but all of my homescreen icons were gone. All of my apps were there, but all of the data was gone. Rather than deal with it at 1AM, I put it on the charger and let it go.
This morning I did a full wipe and restored a nandroid backup from the 20th. Everything seemed back to normal. When I got to work I reflashed the CM10.1 stable that just came out and faux's mainline 16 kernel, effectively bringing my phone back to the state it was before last night's drama. I got up from my desk to get coffee and when I returned I noticed my phone was on with a yellow screen that read:
HW reset was detected!
---------------------------------------------------
DemiGod Crash Handler : HW reset was detected!
There was some other stuff too but I decided to Google it before I did any of the things listed on the screen. I found a post in the Optimus G forum describing the same thing. One of the members said to hold down the power button until the phone shuts down, then restart and everything would be cool. No one else in the post seemed to see it as a big deal.
I went ahead and did what was recommended and my phone seems to be OK. Nothing weird has happened since then.
I guess my question is: what could've caused this? Is it my ROM/kernel combo or is it more likely the actual hardware? Should I be alarmed? My phone is less than a month old. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm not an expert here, so I might not be the best source of advice, but I'll try.
The 'HW reset' message is kind of weird. I assume it means hardware reset. Out of curiosity, are you playing with the voltages or clock speed of your processor? Maybe it went out of the fringes of usability and crashed. Although if that happened, I'm not sure if the system would realize it and automatically recalibrate it (hence the 'HW reset').
You said you were playing a game called Nimble Quest when you first had issues? Is that a really resource-intensive game? Maybe your chip overheated, and the system freaked out and reset something. Then again, there was plenty of time between that and when you actually saw the screen so I doubt that.
I couldn't tell you, OP. That is very strange indeed. Did anyone in the thread you found about the Optimus G have any suggestions as to the cause?

At the time I was using faux's kernel and his FauxClock app. Processor speeds were set to his recommended for good battery life (384 min 1512 high, intellidemand). Also, I can't imagine Nimble Quest being very demanding. It's a 2D, 16bit style snake-type game. No one in the Optimus G thread had another other suggestions than holding power down to restart.
So the night before last I had another episode with soft reboots. I couple in a row. No data loss, but still annoying. This morning I decided to ditch faux's kernel and flash the latest CM nightly (people have been saying the nightlies are pretty much just as stable as the RC/stables). Just about 15 minutes ago, I was playing Nimble Quest again and had the same problem. I quit out of the game and the screen went black, but still on. I felt a quick vibe and heard my notification sound. Count a few seconds and it happened again. I held down power for a few seconds and the phone shut down. I booted back up and everything seems to be there except for my wallpaper. I've tried setting a new wallpaper and it's not working. I just get a solid black background.
At this point I'm really worried that it's my hardware and not the ROM/kernel/software. How should I go about testing this? I assume the most foolproof way would be to flash the factory image and run it stock for a while to see if I have problems. Before I go that route should I try a full wipe, CM install and forego restoring my apps with TiBu? Could it be a corrupt app or data causing this issue?
Again, any help is appreciated.
I used to have it too when I was using Faux kernel. Turning off C3 and C4 in FauxClock fixed it for me.

.
If that doesn't work, I would at least try a different kernel. If that does nothing, I would try changing ROM, and without restoring any apps or data. Is the only time you can get this problem with that specific game? If so, the game itself might be a faulty-coded game. If you get this problem elsewhere, try messing around on the newly-flashed ROM in the other areas you can replicate this. If you can't get it to soft-brick, try downloading that game and playing it on the fresh ROM/kernel. If you still get it, try flashing another kernel again. Basically, try 2 different ROMs, each with 2 different kernels, with and without Nimble Quest. Might seem like overkill, but I'm just trying to completely eliminated ROM/kernel problems, and any app problems. If none of that works, I really don't know what to say, maybe it really is a hardware issue.
Tonight, I'll try downloading Nimble Quest and playing it for a bit to replicate the issue. Is it just playing the game in general that crashes, or is it specific actions that you've found that really trigger it? From what I've read, the issue seems to pop up when you quit the game. I assume that just means hitting the Home key? I've read the reviews on the Play page and can't find one that complains about system-wide problems. I have a feeling it isn't the app, but it doesn't hurt for me to try and replicate the issue. If I get it, that means it's either the game, or specific settings both you and I share, and we will need to dig a little deeper to find out what it could be. Anyway, I'll mess with it a bit tonight and get back to you tomorrow if you haven't already found the cause/solution.
It happens every time the modem crashes. Earlier it just used to reboot without giving the message.

Now that I've got the Moto X Pure Edition activated, I've been able to work out some of the kinks inherent using it as a daily driver. One noteworthy issue that remains is an odd bug where the device will completely lose connection to the Internet on both a WiFi and cellular data connection, usually after transitioning between types of connections. When this happens, an exclamation point is displayed next to the icon representing whichever connection is currently active and nothing is able to transmit data to or from the Internet or even my local network.
Rebooting the device always fixes the problem, but this issue is materializing a bit too often for my liking, which is usually once every time that I return to a WiFi network after being disconnected from one for some time (more testing may have to be done to confirm exactly what triggers it).
The device is running the stock rom (rooted) and the stock kernel along with the usual tweaks (ad-blocking, Xposed framework, audio fixes, etc.). Anybody seen this before or know what might be causing it?
UPDATE (3/1/2017)
Figured it out! The problem appears to have been caused by my failure to whitelist certain applications in PowerNap. After following the instructions found in the Moto X Pure Edition power optimization thread, the problem appears to have vanished. I don't know if it was the Google Services Framework, JavaTcmdHelper, Android System, or some combination of those that needed to be whitelisted, but the problem has vanished. At least one of those must be responsible for verifying the validity of an Internet connection in sleep mode, which would cause the device to become confused when it would wake up with a different connection that it hadn't verified (that's my theory at least).
At any rate, it is no longer an issue.
Update (Later on 3/1/2017)
Well, it looks like it might not be fixed so well after all. A couple hours after arriving home today, I went to use the device and saw the dreaded "!" next to the network indicator. Still, two days is longer than it's ever lasted before. I've cleared the cache and dalvik/ART cache to see if something in there might be gumming it up and will add another post to this thread if the problem returns.
Still an issue
Looks like it might not be fixed after all. I lost connection again the other day in a parking lot and once more today after getting home. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
I just recently got my x pure. I've seen this issue on mine too.

That too is interesting. I'm running the stock Rom, (rooted) so we can probably eliminate that as a potential cause. Given how little reference there is to this on the web at large, the problem is probably caused by a common app or setting (or some kind of unfortunate combination) running on both of our phones.
All we need to do is figure out what kind of "unusual" stuff our devices have in common. I'll rattle off a list of software and settings that might be out of the ordinary or network-related; you tell me if you're running anything like it on your phone.
AdFree
A.R.I.S.E. audio
FolderSync
Ice Box (Motorola Update Service is the only frozen app)
TOTAL Wireless My Account App
Pebble, MyTracks, and Pebble MyTracks
SlingPlayer (this one sometimes wakelocks)
Titanium backup (I tried restoring some WiFi access points once, but it didn't work)
Xposed Framework with Amplify, Greenify, and Power Nap installed and configured as instructed in the Moto X Pure Edition battery life guide thread OP. I've also got MinMinGuard and YouTube AdAway.
As far as settings go, I've not got much in the way of unusual configurations. I enabled the system UI tuner to get the battery percentage and the extended developer options to try out multi-window, (and to change the animation scales to .5X) but everything in there is still pretty much stock.
Does your configuration have anything in common with mine?
Close, but no cigar
It got almost 8 days this time before it happened again. I thought that maybe switching to the legacy DHCP client had done the trick, but that was apparently not the case. Any ideas as to what could be causing the issue or how to fix it?
Or, if you're having the same problem, can you look at my list in the previous post and tell me if any of the software or settings are similar so that we can narrow down the cause?
I have had this problem appear about three times over my 13 months of ownership and all three times was when my bootloader was still locked (obviously running stock not rooted). Never found a solution except to reboot.i only unlocked and rooted my device about a month ago.
Anything familiar?

Interesting. Between that, my findings, and the fact that @inkdaddy66 was having the problem on a non-Motorola Rom, I want to think that we can eliminate the Rom software as a cause. Did you see any familiar software on my "potential troublemakers" list up in post 6? I'm thinking that if we can find a common program or workflow, then we'll be able to narrow down the cause of the problem.
In the meantime, I'll try posting in the general Android troubleshooting forum here on XDA and see if anybody there has seen the problem or has any troubleshooting tips.

Nothing used from your list except system UI tuner when I experienced the problems. That would leave either a ROM and/or hardware issue IMO.

Hmmm... That's also interesting, but I just don't see how system UI tuner could be harming anything. Do you have any other apps or settings at all that you think could be causing the issue?
If this were anything other than my primary, I'd hard reset and troubleshoot that way, but I don't exactly have the time to pull the rug out of an otherwise-working setup right now, so this is going to have to be done the hard way (or, in the case of hardware glitch, lived with).
At any rate, I discovered a new symptom earlier in the week. This time, Internet connection was lost, but only for WiFi, so the connection would actually fall back to Cellular and still continue to work. As before, toggling the connection had no effect, but rebooting the device "fixed" it. I thought maybe it was a fluke, since we'd had an AP hiccup over the weekend, (I refuse to reboot that thing because I'm going for an uptime record) but it happened again on Wednesday, so I'm not sure what to make of it.
Side-issue aside, I'm beginning to wonder if it's some kind of combination of network behavior and usage pattern that brings the issue about. It seems like if I stay within range of the WiFi network, no issue develops, but if I move out of its coverage and don't touch the phone for a while, that allows for ideal conditions under which to replicate the problem (sometimes). I haven't nailed down a consistent pattern yet, but the problem does emerge more often when I'm returning home than at other times. Any thoughts?
Update (3/24/2017; 12:32PM)
Scratch that last part about the issue only being triggered upon "arriving home." The problem happened again this morning, in the same general area. First, no WiFI, then, after resetting the connections, no cellular either. I captured a LogCat before rebooting this time though. Anyone want to take a crack at sifting through that to see if it offers any clues?
I lose cellular data, from time to time, I don't kow if I'm losing WiFi capability also, because I'm on the road when this happens.
It takes a reboot or switching in and out of airplane mode to regain data.
I have had this happen on TruPureXMM ROM and stock-rooted Marshmallow.
I have not spent much time on stock-unrooted, so i don't know if it would happen then, also.
Possible fix
Just to follow up on this again, I have finally reached the eighth day of uptime without the problem materializing, which is the longest that I was able to go before without it happening. This time, I went in to the developer options and disabled "Cellular data always active." I'd give it another couple days to know for sure, but if this sticks, then I think we might've found the fix!

If your trouble is isolated to just one connection and/or cycling the connection brings it back, then the issue you are experiencing is unrelated to the one described in this thread.

Cellular data always active should never be on (it's disabled in stock rom), except if you have VoLTE only with no fallback to 3G or 2G (Jio is the only provider that comes to mind, but this phone doesn't support their service anyway) or otherwise unusual scenarios I can't really think of.
Huh, and CELLULAR DATA ALWAYS ACTIVE (for faster network switching) sounds like such a good thing.
Mine was selected on.
My loss of data happens in the same spot, usually, but is not leaving wifi. Perhaps it is a tower to tower handoff spot.
I turned it off. Time will tell.
Thanks, fellas!

Always on is not necessarily a good thing. Reality is that when you lose or turn off WiFi, mobile data should only be delayed only by a second or two. There is no real benefit to having it on except for maybe VOLTE.

Actually, it's a battery killer more than anything else... It keeps cellular data active even when on WiFi.
It is possible it's a tower thing though. I have noticed at this one hotel I stay at frequently people tell me they call and it rings or just goes to voicemail even though I have good signal. After investigating it a bit, I'm in a spot that has nearly identical signal strength from 3 towers and it's a metro area so there are 4+ bands accessible... I've seen times watching LTE Discovery where it keeps switching bands and towers for 30 to 120 seconds or so, like it can't make up it's mind what to talk to because it's confused, then it locks on for a while before it starts it's cycle again. During those cycles I think is when people can't call me, can't really say if it affects internet or not since I tend not to use my phone too much in the evenings when I'm on the road (usually on laptop).
Uptime record, but... it's back

Cellular data always active should never be on (it's disabled in stock rom), except if you have VoLTE only with no fallback to 3G or 2G (Jio is the only provider that comes to mind, but this phone doesn't support their service anyway) or otherwise unusual scenarios I can't really think of.

Interesting. I thought for sure that I had the default settings checked in there, but maybe I did change it early on and just forgot. Either way, waiting an extra five seconds to establish a data connection isn't that huge of a deal for me, so I'll leave it off anyway in exchange for battery life when the signal's poor.
At any rate, however, the problem has returned. I was just a few hours short of 9 days of uptime and really thought that I was out of the woods with this problem, but it has returned once again upon returning into range of the home access point. Looks like we're back to the drawing board on this one.

So you're having the same problem too? That makes at least four of us now. Do you mind sharing what Rom and flashed tweaks (Xposed Framework, A.R.I.S.E. audio, root, etc.) you're using as well as any unusual software or settings? Anything in common with my list on page 1?

I think we've established that my issue is different, but it has occurred on TruPureXMM and stock but rooted Marshmallow, both with Substratum, Xposed (Gravity Box only) and Viper Atmos.
Same as you =Titanium Backup
*another* new strategy (sigh)
For this week's shot in the dark, I'm going to try manually switching WiFi off before I leave anyplace covered by an access point. Since the problem seems to occur most often when connected to WiFi or when connecting to it, maybe this will make some kind of a difference.

I see now; my mistake.
Hi All,
My Samsung S8 suffers for an unusual condition: it has no internet
1. It connects to my home Wi-Fi, both 2G and 5G, but I see "Internet may not be available" message and that's actually true.
2. When Wi-Fi is turned off, 4G+ icon is showing and I have reception (as I used to have) but still does not connect to Internet.
3. I am sure my Wi-Fi is working fine as my work phone and lots of other devices at home are working as expected.
4. GSM signal allows me to make phone calls and send text messages.
5. I created a tethering network on my work phone but S8 still cannot connect.
6. Factory reset completed, hasn't helped.
S8 UK version, Samsung's original ROM (no modification or whatsoever). The mobile is in "perfect" condition, 4 years old, never got wet. Internet stopped working half way through a day, it was just laying on my desk.
Any ideas what went down, how to fix it? Thanks.
Sometimes, setting the wrong date might the problem, but you shouldn't be facing a problem with cellular and WiFi altogether.
Does your phone feel like it is draining more battery than usual? Does it get warm?
It may look like a system update went wrong, perhaps you should try flashing the latest official update using Odin.
Of course there are a lot of stuff you can try, but they usually take some time, and it seems like you don't like wasting time.

Data and time is fine. Phones does not feel like draining or warm, on standby it works for a few days.
I looked into Odin but I am not sure where I can get the firmware. I tried this:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s8/firmware/SM-G950F/BTU/download/G950FXXSBDUA3/1243160/
but download speed is 15 kB/Sec and it says hours to download it. Do you know where to get it faster?
I tried to use Odin to install twrp and then another rom, but I keep getting failed. No idea why ;/
Thank you for your help.

I apologize for replying late.
Androidfilehost is the best way to find files specific to such needs, all you have to do is to navigate to the website and use the search, a good keyword will give the best results:
Searching for dreamlte will get you AOSP ROMs, Kernels, Mods, etc ... for the normal Galaxy S8. But they are mostly old, for developers these days does not use it frequently.
Searching for G950F results a lot of files, Stock-based mostly, and they are updated frequently.
Here's G950FXXSBDUA3 Firmware.
Download speed on AFH depends on your network speed, or at least that's what's going on with me.
