Okay, this may sound crazy to some, but I absolutely LOVE the dedicated fingerprint-reader and the non-screen back/menu-buttons on the 3T, so I'm considering it over the 6t for those reasons.
I'm in Thailand now where I can get the 6T for THB 15 000 which is almost exactly the same price I can order a new OnePlus 3T with shipping to Sweden on Amazon.
Also, I really don't like the extra tap/lift/whatever I need to do to wake the screen on the 6T before activating its fingerprint sensor. And I obviously don't like its lacking hardware back/menu-buttons.
So, what is your input? Can you help me decide one way or the other?

I would get neither of them at this point if those are you complaints. The 3T is probably fine but you'd be getting a 2016 device in 2019 in an industry where innovation is happening basically every month. Might want to look at another brand in your situation.
As much as I would prefer a phone with a dedicated fingerprint sensor and a headphone jack, I wouldn't buy a 3T at this point for that much money. That's way too much. Your going to get a phone that has sat around for a long time, so even though the battery hasn't been used, it's still aged. Support will still start to slowly die off. OP will be releasing the last software updates soon for it. I would at least search for something slightly newer like a 5T etc, doesn't have your non-screen buttons, but much newer phone with the benefits of a newer phone.
Really if it's going to be the same price you might as well get the latest model.

Valid point there. What current phone is similar to the 3t when it comes to the buttons I love at the bottom of the 3t?
(By the way I just lost my OnePlus 3t, that's why I have to buy a new phone)
6T.
You will get used with software back, home.. I use op3, them all of them except 3T, up to 6T.

I just realized that the OnePlus 5 has a similar design to the 3t.
Are there any drawbacks of buying an Asian OnePlus 5 if I'm gonna use it in Sweden?

Nope both are the same just Asian uses Hydrogen OS instead of OOS for International you can convert it to OOS easy enough

OnePlus 5 is going to be the most recent op device that's the most similar to the three 3/T. And definitely what you should get if you don't like on screen nav buttons because every opportunity device from the 5T and up all use software keys.
If you're into mobile photography you can go for 3T for its GCam support, which is 10 notches better than the GCam support of 6T. Near to stock feel in terms of smoothness and speed.
i had 3t, and was scared about fingerprint, but with facial recognizer and double tap to wake i use fingerprint not so often. Take 6t bro, u are crazy to take a 3t XD
I wouldn't get a 3T if you can get a 6T for the same price. I know you prefer the capacitive buttons but I think you'll get used to software buttons and enjoy your smartphone experience much more with the 6T!
How about the Samsung fold? It doesn't have anything you are looking for but the screen folds.

Also part of your initial post is incorrect information, on the 60 if you have lift to wake turned on all you have to do is move the phone and the fingerprint icon pops up so there is no need to push buttons or tap or swipe anything in order to activate the fingerprint reader

With the proximity sensor and pocket mode. As long as the sensor is blocked when you move, the screen won't turn on and the scanner won't pop-up.
This works even with the phone out of your pocket but close to your leg while you walk, I've done it a few times already.

So your friend might be lucky. I will not say that the OnePlus 2 is full of bugs, but he has some.
-Fingerprint scanner doesn't work very well for me;
-The processor (even if it is the "version 2.0" as OnePlus claims) can be hot sometimes;
-One point that make me very hungry is the fact that OnePlus doesn't release sources yet: ROM development is, because of it, very long: watch at G3 or G4, they already have a fully CM13, compare to the OnePlus Two (even with great works form developers) still doesn't have all features present (Fingerprint, Laser Autofocus, where are you?).
Of course the Oneplus Two is a great phone, but not the flagship killer claimed by OnePlus.
I bought it 'cause of the invite' system, but I was stupid. Think about twice before buy it, and watch phones from other companies.

1- You don't know how to scan your finger then. It works great, almost 99% of the times.
2- Phones get got, this isn't the exception, my nexus 5 gets a LOT hotter, and i have read that lg g3 heats a lot. I use it with modified thermal file (original is crap) and it works amazing and there is absolutely no throttle. Not even after 30m or more of heavy gaming!
3- You are right in this. But I guess they will release the source with marshmallow, in February probably.
Upgrade, you won't regret, and if you flash custom kernels and use modified thermal files you will discover the true power of this phone.

Does the OP2 have Marshmallow yet? I installed stock MM on my G3 and it did wonders to the phone. A lot smoother, better battery life and only gets hot when I play cpu/gpu intensive games. Funny how G3 has a heavy skin and got MM before OP2, which is basically stock android with small extras.

It doesn't have any fingerprint problem. Of course if you scan only one part of your finger and don't try every possibly position while scanning it won't recognize your finger when you try to unlock, because it doesn't save the position you are trying. That's logical, but some people think that they put the center of the finger and then it will recognize it in every position.

Well, how well you want it to work dude? it cant work with just intention without moving finger, place your finger in right direction it will work 95% or more time, once a day you can place your finger twice, don't lose heart due tot his There is no processor which will keep phone from getting hot if extensively used , i sold G4, you talk about CM13 and other roms working? it had no proper or easy root if you dont have one specific EU H815 model, and very few people have that, for others you have to do 500 steps, dont talk about roms, its as easy as Nexus for OP2.
Customs Roms in LG G4 wont bring finger print scanner either dude so relax and if scanner is dear to you, leave ROMS and use stock rom like a good boy
There is no phone that is called flagship killer, its just a catchy tag line, every phone has give and take, there is no perfect phone, just make sure which ever model you have, your unit is faulty.
The OPT isva really good phone, its not a great phone. No issues with fingerprint sensor here, the phone only gets warm when I wipe and flash. Oxygen OS isn't pure adroid, it cut back on s lot of features but if you like to root your phone then xposed module will fill in that gap. Custom roms are coming as soon as marshmallow is released all the 5.1 roms will be upgraded. The alert slider is a nice touch and having laser focus is almost a must nowadays. For the price it cant really be beat unless you drop down to the Moto X Pure that u will pay more for. Though on the other hand the G4 price is coming down and that really is a great phone.
Personally I'd go with the discounted nexus 5x (if its available in your country, it went down 50$ in the us). I'm very underwhelmed by the OnePlus 2. I've had bad issues with my bamboo back, the charger, oxygen os (paranoid android is fantastic, however), and also the processor. My battery life is pretty goof, but significantly worse than my OnePlus one. In addition, I don't understand why people are saying this phone doesn't have fingerprint issues. Of course it does, the manufacturing is ridiculously inconsistent. I know 4 people who personally own the OnePlus 2 and of this 4 there are 3 (including myself) with fingering issues. One only has the home button (no fingerprint) working, one has one that is very inconsistent, mine is 100% broken, and the last persons is flawless. When mine worked it was fantastic, don't get me wrong, but tons of people have had issues with it.

Your not crazy.
Honestly, the camera just stinks. Its gonna take Essential to really work on firmware and software to solve it. Yes, you can use the Google Camera Mod/Port, but that comes with its own set of headaches and it not perfect.
I would like Oreo and them to really show us they can take the LG G6 camera hardware and make them work like the LG G6 cameras.
If they can do that, I think it will show the industry that they mean business. If they just let it slide till Essential Phone 2, and don't show that they can deliver software and firmware, it will really show just how shallow and normal their company really is. Meaning, oh well... let them just buy our new one because its better for our bottom line.
I am REALLY in hopes that they want to prove and show that they are above the other trolling companies that just shovel out new devices. That would set them apart from the pack of the massive flood of phones by a sea of Android OEM's.
Show us your better than the norm Essential.

The Pixel 2 prices should've been lower, after having the phone for 8 days I realised that it's not worth 8 and $900+. No wireless charging, no head phone jack and the build quality is sub par. The squeeze feature is useless and you can't remap it. 8.0 is the only thing that sets the pixel apart for now

Pixel 2 128gb is only $750. And you can remap the squeeze function easily with Flar2's button remapper and a simple ADB command.
Also, I can't agree with you about 8.0 being the only thing that sets it apart as the camera is arguably the best on the market right now.

Its not easy to justify the price of the pixel but you do get a few things the essential phone doesnt have: IP67, stereo speakers, much faster updates, and an incredible camera. Is it worth it? Idk
I have my ph-1 coming today. I'm rocking a pixel 2 XL 128. I wouldn't even consider the smaller pixel for the dinky screen so I think the bigger pixel is more comparable. These 2 phones, both at 128gb are $529 difference out the door. Camera , waterproofing and speakers are advantages over the ph-1. I just don't think it's worth over five hundred bucks. Plus the screen is not the highest quality and I haven't heard anyone say this but the pixel fingerprint sensor is not the best. If you have the slightest moisture on your finger ,even sweat, it won't register. I just feel like at a grand, a phone better be near perfect. The only deal breaker to me would be if the ph-1 has connectivity issues. I'm also really into a smoother software experience which is unmatched by the pixel line it sounds. I DO kind of like the underdog company who seems willing to listen and try to make consistent updates to improve things. I think I'll be content knowing tthat those updates are coming and it gives you hope and something to look forward to... especially Oreo. Looking at that beautiful screen while waiting may very well be worth it!
Hey guys,
I'm thinking about upgrading from my OP 5 to the 5t.
Do you think that it's worth it?
After all, the price didn't change at all for the two versions.
I'd not pay much that much on top when selling my current OP5.
Wait for 6.
They've already confirmed the 6 is coming at Quote, "Near the end of quarter two."
I'm personally going to be sticking with the 5 myself unless the 6 has something that blows everyone's socks and hats and pants off. I love OnePlus a lot but these incremental upgrades need to stop. They need to add MORE. Put more battery in, lower the price add RAM better camera, SOMETHING. The 5t is my least favorite oneplus phone because they changed the screen and moved the fingerprint back. Big deal. The oneplus 5 lasts longer in terms of battery now but thats expected, the screen on the 5t takes up more space on the same body.
Its not an upgrade to me, its more of a preferential thing. I love bezels, they add places to grip the phone. Bezelless is not good for someone like me with shaky hands. That's just my opinion. But the fact is, it would be nice to see better improvements on newer models. Especially so the reputation of the "T" reigns strong.
I'd wait for the 6T. Even though they said there probably won't be a 6T.
But that's what they said about the 3T - a one-time thing only. And here we are, talking about a 5T...
I want 5T for the design. I really like the screen with small edges up & down.

Avoid like the plague, you'd be spending another £500 on smaller bezels ? Why would anyone want to do that. Not only that but you will probably have worse battery life due to the larger and higher resolution screen..
For me it's a no brainer to stick with the 5.
After what they did with the 5T (5 month upgraded model and made the 5 obsolete ) the 6 has to be unbelievable for me to commit to buying it.
Personally I can't see it, so it's back to HTC for me.

I need to get a new phone. My current Nexus 6 can barley keep a charge and is very sluggish. I have a chance to get a PH-1 for $280 outright or $240 for sprint version vs getting a Pixel 2 XL for $600. Basically the pixel is more than double the price. I am on Verizon and don;t have many other options for phones that can be easily rooted and bootloader unlocked. I have been reading this forum and most everyone likes their PH-1 except the camera. Is the Camera that bad? How much better is it now with newer software? Google Camera port? Is their anything that would steer me clear from this phone? Money is tight and I really can't afford to spend that much more money if I don't to. Saying that I don't want to buy the PH-1 and hating it only to spend more money to get something else. As for the Sprint version of the phone, I have read it takes only 2 files to unlock it then I read you can't, which on is it? Should I spend the extra $40 to get the non-sprint version?
I know I asked many questions and all your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
BB
The camera is a non issue as most of us use the Google Camera port as our Camera app, so you'll get great IQ from your PH-1 essentially using a port of the Pixel 2 camera app on yr PH-1 see here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

A big factor is size. I came from the OG pixel (non xl) and I have fallen in love with the size of this phone. The pixel 2 xl I hear is a little tall. It's about as tall as the the nexus 6 actually. However for 280 I can't think of a better deal.. I got mine for 350 and it is a hell of a lot of phone for the price. Just use the Google camera port for sure though

I'm on Verizon and the phone works great.
I don't have any real complaints about the camera and the ability to have a 360 camera is great.
People seem to want DSLR quality from a smart phone. I don't I expect smartphone/point and shoot quality and it meets that.
Is is better than the iPhoneX? I don't know.
Is it better than the Nexus 6P that I had previously? Yep.
I keep a mirrorless APS-C camera in the car. So for me, the phone is a last resort for pics.
Sorry OP, may I borrow your post and make a question too?
I have a Mate 10 Pro, I had the chance to use the Essential Phone for one day.
I know that we can't judge anything with one day but... The Essential Phone felt a little lagging compared to my Mate 10 Pro. One note I have to say is that the Essential was on 8.0.0 (I guess) and not the latest 8.1 update.
So I ask: Isn't the Essential Phone a little slow compared to the others flagships? The camera is a good example to say.
(And I've heard that the Pixel 2 (XL) is one of the fastest smartphone period.)
Sorry again, OP.
Speaking on performance. I have read that the OS is jiggery not smooth. Any comments on that?

Not on 8.1. I just came to this from a Nexus 6, and I've run everything on that, including more than half of the 8.1 ports and for me there's no comparison, this device is a much snappier experience.
If having the bootloader unlocked and rooting is important to you what about ROM or kernel development? There is almost no development for the Essential. After a year on the market only two custom ROMs that I know of officially support this phone--AOSP and Carbon. Yes, you can unlock the bootloader but the development community is almost non-existent.
Twrp is weird on this phone, you cant install it permanently. You'll need to always be near a computer if you want to install anything. Screen has lackluster touch response, smoothness is hit or miss with the jitteriness. Edge detection could be improved. Don't have a pixel but I'd recommend it over the essential.

TWRP is not weird on this phone.
The boot holds the recovery also.
This just means that the custom recovery must be integrated into boot image.
The phone has to complete boot/os setups. The makes sure that you can always recover and you can update the OS white the phone is running.
As far as jitter. A fix is in the developer options in 8.1.
I don't have any touch response issues and the overall device is much better than a Pixel (IMHO).

I have been using PH-1 for a while now and with the official Oreo update and camera port I can recommend this phone. I have an iPhone X also and don't really like it as a "Daily Driver", too use to Android and all it can do over iOS, PH-1 camera is up to par with the iPhone's camera as well. Battery life is the same as the iPhones and no complaints on the UI jitters or signal strength. It's a good phone overall!:good:

Yeah, tried the magisc fix. Phone isn't smooth. Trying to scroll with one hand and having the momentum break cause my hand is slightly touching the screen is annoying AF, like i'm scrolling and it randomly bounces the other way annoying. Scrolling through sites/apps just doesn't feel as good compared to my U11.
Just installed the P preview and the phone feels way better than oreo we'll see how it goes.

P isn't ready for prime time. I hope it works for you though.
I'll wait.

Which camera port are you using, if you mind my asking? Looking at the link, I'm assuming the best one is:
Arnova's v7beta9: GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7beta-test-9.apk (Arnova8G2, 2018-03-25, no config needed, suggested settings, changelog)
Just got a PH-1 last night and want to fully set it up and use it for a few days before selling my S8.
Thanks

Yes sir, that's the one! Motion pictures, HDR+, Portrait all working perfect!!:good:
Morning all, i have been a long admirer of this phone, I currently have an xperia Xz1, it's been a good phone but starting too look dated now, I just wondering, whether if the 6t is still a good purchase especially with the One Plus 7 around the corner.
Many thanks
Up to you.
If you are in a hurry buy 6T, if not, wait for 7 ( that could be in may).

Thanks, i know what you mean, honestly i think it depends on the price of the Oneplus7 i think that wall decide which phone i will get.
Thanks
If i have a working phone now i will wait for op7.
The price should be around price for 6T. Let's hope they not get greedy..
The OnePlus phone with 5G will be expensive, like 1000$ and useless since we don't have 5g network.

That is true, think i shall wait for the pricing to come out, yes hopefully it will be priced accordingly inline with the 6t , 5g for myself, not needed to be honest.
Thanks again for your input.
I decided after the Galaxy S8+, then S9+, then Note9 it was time for a change. I traded in the Note9 and got a OnePlus 6T and could not be any happier. The galaxy lines are nice, dont get me wrong. But the pure android feel of the OnePlus is much smoother than the Galaxy series.
Samsung does have the better display. Thats undeniable but the OnePlus 6T makes up for it in utter fluidity.

Hey Scott, I was a big fan of your roms for HTC phones, you did great things for those devices. I'm thinkinging about ordering this phone, the only thing that is bothering me is the finger print sensor. How has your experience been so far with the finger print sensor?
If you have an iPhone, how does the scrolling smoothness in apps and the browser compare? Thanks

IM 50/50 on the fingerprint sensor. Its impressive for what it is however not nearly as quick or accurate as a rear mounted sensor.
Scrolling in this on the very latest update (Jan Security patch) is very smooth. I did take off the plastic screen protector because it does take away from the smooth feel and causes a tiny bit of drag with my fingers.
