Observations after a couple of weeks

After using the Idol 3 for a couple of weeks, I have the following observations.
Pros:
1) It is a very nice phone, especially considering the price.
2) Battery life is on par with most flagship phones if not better. I can get 5 hours SOT without turning anything off or down. (Considering most people on other phones are complaining about battery drain on Android 5.01/2 and everyone is hoping that 5.1 will fix this, our battery life may only get better)
3) The camera is quick taking shots and straight forward to use. (quality not so much)
4) The OS is simple with very little bloat ware.
5) Very good sound with the front facing speakers.
6) The phone is thin and light for a having a 2910 mAh battery in it.
7) The screen is very bright in direct sunlight. I use it outside a lot and enjoy using it without trying to find some shade.
Cons:
1) The camera is fast but only takes decent pictures. Although for this price one can't complain to much as it is on par of flagship phones a couple years old.
2) Double tap to wake seems to be a constant issue for many (myself included).
3) Only 1 update in the last 14 days. I was hoping for Alcatel to push out some updates quicker but only time will tell how well they do.
4) The phone isn't blazing fast but doesn't lag too much either so this is kind of neutral. Clearly the recent apps is choppy and slow but most performance is decent.
5) Very little in the way of accessories. I bought an ipad screen protector and cut it down to fit.(I can get 3 out of 1).
6) Development isn't there. Not sure if it will be as maybe the phone isn't popular enough or the root/boatloader issue my be part of that as well.
I had the Zenfone 2 and LG G3 and sold them both in favour of this phone. I have had almost every flag phone out there and thought I would play around with some lower priced devices and have been pleasantly surprised with this phone so far. 3 things for me to keep the phone as a daily driver for a little would be, the DTTW issue resolved, some development so I can have some fun flashing some roms, and update to Android M (or at least to 5.1 for some software improvements and extra battery life, but 5 hours of OST is good for me. I most likely will be keeping this phone as my backup once I do move on and will certainly keep an eye on Alcatel for future phones.

I agree 100% with what you said. Just waiting for an update to 5.1 (with some bug fixing) and I'd be very happy.
As for the camera, I'm coming from a Nexus 4. So this is a huge upgrade. I actually find that it takes pretty decent pictures in sunlight.

I watched a review that stated the Zenfone 2 camera blew the idol 3 away.
My personal experience is completely the opposite. The Zenfone 2 camera was slow at focusing and unless you picked a shooting mode the auto setting was the worse choice.
I was spoiled with the note 4 and G3 cameras.

Completely agree with all you have written on your posts[emoji2] . I have the phone and love it, double tap works very well, apex launcher + Deactivated animations in dev menu is a must!
And to screen off the device apex + screen off app is fantastic!
Oh and I have tried the laggy g3, its sad screen and its bad battery life [emoji6] ..
I own the m8 because the m9 hasn't convinced me, vs the m8..

I like it too. if somehow development are started I don't really care if Alcatel updates. hardware wise I'm sure this phone can do better than it is now.
therefore I'm only praying for everything to come together for developments of custom roms before everyone got fed up of Alcatel and leave this boat.

There is a 3-pack of Mr Shield screen protectors on Amazon that fit the phone perfectly. They aren't the best quality (shows scratches pretty easily) but they have the cutout for the camera/light sensor.

I ordered a glass screen protector a few days ago. I was notified yesterday that they are out so they are sending me 2 cheap ones for now and when the glass one comes in they will send it.

I don't disagree but the update was on start up. Nothing after that. This is a budget phone and a great one at that. If they address a could issue this good be a decent daily driver.
I lost patients and moved on but still check the forum as it was an underdog and I was mostly pleased with it.

Ive had this since yesterday. Phone has great potential with custom roms. My biggest complaint is the serious lag issues. Id assume this is from 5.0.2 and the memory leak. The animations are choppy as hell. Otherwise great device.

5.0.2 is full of bugs, yeah. Not sure why phones would ship with that in the first place but meh. To have a smoother experience, enable dev options and set all animation scales to off or .5x.

In europe evertything runs just fine animations, app clearing, everything even in 5.0.2, what's your build number?

The design is what sold me. Super light weight and very good battery life. Speakers are very good and the lcd is better than my nexus 5 was. The only downside is the lag which im thinking is from the gpu drivers and 5.0.2. Custom roms could fix this.

Id say most users on here agree the animations lag like hell. You must be running some super seceret version of 5.0.2.

what is the phone charging time ? wonder if its Lion battery needs to be replaced faster than others' Lipo ?

Is This Phone Still Worth the Buy?

I'm still interested in this phone, but I can't find a whole lot of information on it after early fall.
Anyone that have one still recommend it?
Any major issues to look out for if I purchased one now?
Not interested in rooting or modding. Really like it for the specs and price.

Well, I for one regret buying it. I think OPO was much better phone. My OP2 is slow and often crashes and couple days ago my clock alarm didn't work which why I overslept. Often have to do hard boot to get it work again.
I don't know is it hardware issue, haven't tried rooting and flashing other ROMs yet, but many people has reported the phone being slow.

It is a bit slow using original os, unfortunately. This will probably be alleviated a bit by Marshmallow when it is released. It's unfortunate that this phone isn't just using ordinary cyanogenmod, since using the current builds of cm13 makes this phone really snappy but with a few bugs and missing features as of now.

I'm currently running my OP+2 with OOS 2.2.0 and Boeffla Kernel. Runs like a charm. Pretty good Battery life (keeps me through the day with 6 - 7 hours SOT), has an amazing camera, fingerprint works pretty good too. Overall performance is great for me. I don't think you can get a Better device for this price.
Most of the problems everyone is talking about are resulting from wrong usage. Main problems i recognized through the Forums are Facebook+its Messenger, bull**** like Greenify and stuff and wrong expectations about a handheld device that isnt build to be a gaming console (with the right Kernel and Settings it can be ).
But if you are not sure about it and dont want to root and tinker around with the device better wait for another device. Here in Germany you can get a Galaxy S6 for the same price when its on sale somewhere. Maybe such a mainstream device is better for you then.

I think OPO is better now because of the official Cyanogen it have , I have experimented a lot of custom ROM's nowdays , for me H2O is better than OOS , but it's for China and it's customers .. Every H2O OS I installed had the same problem with notifications , for example Whatsapp and Facebook messenger notification came in few minutes after the message was sent to me, or they appeared just after I used the applications .. So I don't recommend H2O os at moment , I hope for a major update of OxigenOS , or that the official Cyanogenmod will come soon , after a better ROM this phone will be stunning, better than OPO :good:

I originally wanted to buy the OPO, but it was out of stock so I got the 2 instead.
I love it, it is a huge step up from my Moto G 2014. Love OxygenOS with the Boeffla Kernel only about 5 hours SOT.
I thought the fingerprint reader was going to be gimmicky, almost 99% accurate. Could not fault the phone atm.

I think no. If I could by an other phone today, I would go to a LG G4 or a Nexus 6P. Damn, look at OnePlus Company, no sources, Fingerprint / Laser Autofocus drivers no released yet. I really don't understand OnePlus orientation regarding the open source side of Android. I know they will (I REALLY HOPE) release their sources for CM13, but for now, all I see is that we have a ""semi"" CM13 (But don't say what I've don't said, @regalstreak and all others developers have maid a wonderful job). Furthermore, I asked Carl Pei on his twitter why sources are not release yet, well.... no answer. Very nice for an opened company Anyway. Mate, if you still have the choice, go for an other phone.

If you're talking about community support I afraid not. But talking about stock rom, I'm satisfied with custom kernel installed, generally smooth experience relying on it's powerful hardware at least. But of course there are quite a number of competitive phones on similar price range like 5x g4 or stylex.
So it depends on your need. I personally take a lot of snapshot(photo I mean) g4 might be better but I'm still pleased with opt.

I have one and I love it, the only real problem I have is with oxygenos, it's pretty buggy and a bit slow. That hopefully will be fixed with software updates. The fingerprint scanner/home button is very responsive and everything works well for me.
In my opinion it is worth it, I would totally recommend it.

In France, LG G4 dropped at 350 Euros, (~381$), and for me, the G4 is far away compared to the OnePlus Two:
-SDCard slot,
-Camera,
-Great specs,
-Great community support... (CM13, fast update from LG)
Yes, the OnePlus Two is a great phone, but not the flasgship killer claimed by OnePlus. But at the end, user is the one who chooses, so.... just my personal opinion!
Oh yeah, @Chopzzay makes me think about it: fingerprint is one of the most funny thing on this phone, it works for randomly: sometimes every time, some times, I have to do it two or three times before it works. Very disappointed about it.

For me I would say it's pretty much the only flagship dual sim card phone, there really was no other choice since I don't want to be dragging two phones with me all the time to be reached both on my private and business number.
But as a single sim user, it's a completely different situation I recon.

Of course g4 will be better only if you only name the pros.
Screen resolution is debatable, less battery, less performance and working on adreno 418... That's a choice, not a pro, personally i love that Oneplus 2 has a FullHD display and not a QHD, i could bought LG G4, Moto x pure, or whatever 500uds or less. I decided Oneplus 2 and im very happy with my decisión. Thanks god i didnt belive the overheating rumors, they are exagerated, my nexus 5 got hotter.
*was between the same devices. My decisión was LG G4 or Oneplus 2. Moto X it was my third choice.
I choose the op2 because of this:
-Full HD screen : more battery and less GPU demanding
-SoC: 810 vs 808. That means ram lpddr4 vs lpddr3, adreno 418 (qHD) vs adreno 430 (FHD).
About heating, because of the rumors oneplus throttle the devices too fast, if you edited the thermal file with boeffla kernel you could have awesome performance, for more info about throttle pm me.
-Fingerprint scanner. Works perfect, if you know how to scan. You have to scan your finger in every side of it, so it will work perfectly.
-XDA community, not too much for no but it will grow up. Oneplus is contacting devs from XDA, that must be a good thing. Op2 will grow a lot when official marshmallow get released.
-Capacitive buttons, so it does not take space from the screen
-Alert slider is useful, but lg g4 volume buttons are very nice too.
-4gb vs 3gb, its not a real life difference but maybe it will be.
EDIT:- Better battery life. 3300mah vs 3000mah, also fhd vs qhd must make a difference.
About nfc, for almost 2 years i never used it on my nexus 5, so its not a problem for me.*

I was really thinking of buying op2 but after seeing so much reviews about heating, more than six months has passed since launch and problem still exist and plus little support for community development from company i doubt i will buy this mobile. I may go for nexus 6p

About heating, nexus 6p has the same soc. And this phone doesn't overheat. I use it with modified thermal and it doesn't throttle even after 30m+ of heavy gaming.

I own a OPT and can't recommend it. It's the worst phone (beside the a Nokia Lumia 520) I've ever used in the last few years.
The hardware is good, the specs are looking great but the software is really crap. and the speaker volume is really really low so I can't hear any calls or messages.

Hi, I need some advice on which device I am going to buy. I'm going to use this I guess 3 to 5 years as I dont replace my phone that often so this thread will help A LOT. I'm basing on some reviews, speed tests, but the two seems to be on par with each other. Price is/may kind of an issue here as I would love to use some of the money (if I buy the OP5) for the after sales and some personal stuff. However if the Note 8 is really "bang for the buck" then I'll gladly go with it. I also tried to search some issues. Here's what I found so far:
One Plus 5:
GPS Issue
Bluetooth Issue
Overheating issue
Jelly Screen effect
Note 8:
Red tint in a lot of device
Light leak (lights leaking on the side of the phone not much of an issue for me)
If you have some issues with the phone, please feel free to reply. It would be appreciated a lot!
I also created Pros and Cons that might help me but I ended up more confused what to buy. Haha.

I may be wrong with some of this but I've researched and this is what I've seen.
If this is a point to consider, I'm coming from a Xperia Z3Compact which didn't last long (I hated sony to the hell because of this) because of the digitizer issue. However, I enjoyed tweaking that phone. Now I'm forced to use my iPhone5s with jailbreak.
Note: Just to be clear, the devices in comparison are OP5 8gb/128gb and Note 8 6gb/64gb Exynos
Note: I'm posting this to each respective forum to have a fair discussion for each phone. I hope this is allowed. I also hope to help some people that have the same options with me.

Thank you guys. After a long comparison, I'm going for the OP5 even with the rumors of OP5T. I just hate the back fingerprint scanner placements which is the trend now. And regarding with the bezels, I'm more into those phone with bezels on top and bottom for landscape usage. I've been trying the S8+, and some games that I play doesn't maximize or utilize the whole screen which leaves some part of the screen blank. However, the screen in the Note 8 is A1 dont get me wrong, but I'm more into the performance and the OP5's screen is enough. Thank you guys!

You are on the OP5 forum so replies can't be realistic... I prefer the OP5 anyday over any Sammy device for just one reason: the OS. I prefer a clean near stock Android OS over the bloated TW UI but that's just me. Note 8 is a great device and all of Samsung hardware is very well made, but the almost double price and the OS give my vote to the OnePlus 5.

I don't have any heat issues as well. Quite the opposite: It's the coolest device I ever had, much cooler than the Galaxy S5, LG G4 and the HTC 10 which I all had before.
The question, in my opinion, is not "OP5 or Note 8" but "OP5 or HTC U11 or LG V30". But I'm very happy with the OP5!

I've seen the HTC U11, but I'm not a fan of the shiny back and HTC as well haha. About the V30, I guess I can consider it but this bootloop issue prevents me to check on it. Also, I updated the post and added the Jelly effect. Have you experienced it?

No jelly effect on my device.

I came from a s8 and s8 plus and so far beside the screen which to me the op5 looks great screen wise obviously not as great as the s8 but still awesome. And the design of the op5 is more of a shared look with smart phones.
Beside that I am very impressed with the onep5 I do not regret the giving up my s8 for this phone. It's so damn smooth and fluid I've had no hiccups.

I have none of the issues on my oneplus 5 that you mentioned
I'm happy with it.

Well your cons for the OnePlus 5 I don't have any of them. My GPS is rock solid as I use it for work at 2+ hours a day. Locks in seconds and never see drift. Bluetooth? I connect to my 2011 Nissan with no issues and connect it to audio adapter (MPOW to stream Bluetooth Audio to my AUX port) and 2 sets of headphones... never an issue with quality or connectivity. My phone never gets hot and while gaming, i barely notice it gets slightly warm. (EX Kernel manager shows CPU temp at 98F after 30 min of asphalt 8.
Maybe you have a phone you should RMA? But there is no way in hell I'm paying $1000 for ANY smart phone when I can get a phone that's better performing, has longer battery life, faster charging, clean basically Stock Android and likely faster updates then Sammy. I used to be a big Sammy fan but not since i left my Note 4 and got a Nexus 6P and now the OP5.
This isn't a bias, these are what I look for in a phone and the things that made me choose this phone over the S8+, LG G6 and the HTC U11.
The one Phone I would look at today compared to the OP5 is the new LG V30. Simply because It will support the new 600mhz band 71 from T-Mobile. Update: I forgot to mention the Jelly effect. I heard people saying it effects every phone but I got my OP5 on launch day and I can tell you more then a dozen people have looked at my phone and no one can see a "jelly effect" If mine has it it's so minimal its not noticeable. I believe the severity vary's a lot.

This isn't a bias, these are what I look for in a phone and the things that made me choose this phone over the S8+, LG G6 and the HTC U11.
The one Phone I would look at today compared to the OP5 is the new LG V30. Simply because It will support the new 600mhz band 71 from T-Mobile. I'm really a fan of SPen but the price really kills it. I thought the price would go lower because of the Note 7 issue haha! I've read some reviews about V30 and its impressive. However I'm really not a fan of LG's OS. I tried G6 and its not for me. But I'll try V30 some other time. About the jelly effect, when I've seen the issue in youtube it made me dizzy a little bit but I dont know if I'll be affected in real life. There little to no demo phones of OP5 here in my country. Well, I purchased the phone 1 week ago, and yes, Jelly Effect is presented, but it's barely to notice. So really nothing which I'd somehow annoying. And the performance and battery life of this phone are outstanding

go for oneplus5.. best device that you can get...samsung sucks

Yeah I also have a theory that the when the jelly effect on a video capture, that the recording enhances the effect, especially in slow motion. I think it's far fewer people say they see then the people who say they can't see it all all.

The Note's screen is better and the S Pen is great.
I owned a Note 4 but could got tired of all bloatware and Samsung in general. I know Touchwiz has improved but it's still too much.
Super happy with the OP5. I mostly used the S Pen for navigation and I use a simpler stylus I found on Amazon on the OP5 and it works great.
No issues with GPS, bluetooth or anything else for me.

The Jelly effect is present on my device, but I don't even notice it anymore more. Very rarely.
I'd go for the OnePlus 5 just because of the price. I can't see how the Note 8's camera, screen, waterproofing and microSD slot make up for that $500 difference. The Note 8 can't even make up for the $200 difference from the S8, and those are nearly identical phones in many aspects.
I chose the OnePlus 5 for the following reasons:
- Performance
- Development community and support
- Price
Samsung tends to have issues with all 3 of the above.
The biggest difference here being the price and you really need to ask yourself "Am I really getting my money's worth?"
I highly doubt the Note 8 is $500 better than the OnePlus 5 or 2-300 better than any other Flagship launched this year.

Very cool running device... GPS issue may have been the 911 bug, but that was quite a while ago.Jelly Screen seems non existent, but people like to report it never the less (even on moto phone....) Wifi issues? Might be because using inferior x12 modem so I'm disappointed. x16 modem is much better, which is what other flagships using 835 win at. Also oneplus 5 display isn't all that great, just 1080p, it does look good, HOWEVER no support for HDR content i've so ever wanted to view. but 1080p looks very good as any screen if few inches away from.

Kinda sick of hearing the jelly effect as a negative. It's not, its more of an accent flavor. Adding life to scrolling. As for those other issues i have never seen them outside of xXx's rom. Running stock 4.5.12 right now and took a nice drive and my device had me spot on every step of the 2 hour drive. it just depends on what you want. Best hope developer support for the note 8 is more than nothing. Oneplus devices live longer than most devices out there. hell the OPO is on oreo right now. go figure.

Overheating? This phone stays cool with heavy games for more than 40 minutes. I'm not saying as a pro for op5, the note 8 snapdragon version should be the same ( I don't know if there is a snap version for the note).
Jelly is present on EVERY op5, some people see it, some people don't. When I order it I think that the first thing to do was to check the jelly issue, it came and I use it for a day, I didn't remember the jelly issue until I read it in the forum again, and when I scroll fast up and down I see it, but I have to do a fast up and down scroll and be looking for it, I don't see it normal usage. Even it costs me a little to see it intentionally.

Hi, long time XDA user here. I'm currently using a OnePlus X. I was considering springing for the new OnePlus 6, but I really shouldn't spend that much money right now. I saw that the V20s (a phone I was interested in previously) are very affordable now and I imaging for 200 bucks I can push my upgrade down the road for a bit, maybe until the OP6+ comes out. I've had an LG phone before and liked it , but it's been quite a few years.(Windows Mobile fellas, not even Windows Phone)
1. Is the V20 still viable, does it run well with current apps and networks?
2. How is the ROM support doing nowadays, and is the rooting process in general still possible from the firmware that currently ships on the phone? (I'm not sure what LGs stance on bootloader locking is)
3. Do custom roms make use of the secondary screen at all?
4. What are the phone's weakest points or biggest annoyances today? As in, what hasn't really stood the test of time?

This sums it up. Seems the v20 is dead. Maybe oreo will bring more development but I doubt it since a lot of people have moved on

Oh yeah lineage that half baked os that's unofficial and you lose main features of the phone and have to flash constant updates or use work arounds to have basic functionality, yeah that's development right there.

LG V20 Still A good Phone
Well maybe you would like a different perspective. I fist laid eyes on the LG V20 in a Verizon store about a month ago but they would not sell it to me because it is not made anymore. So I just purchased an unlocked version from B&H in New York. My first attraction to this phone is the second screen which i think is extremely useful. Then i noticed that the LG V20 has a removable back panel so you can replace the battery. I have been looking for that ever since my NOTE 4 bricked two years ago. in the interim I had a Motorola Pure X which took a look for me to part with. SO that was all I needed to make the choice to buy it. now i do not have to carry a battery brick or make sure i am near a charger all day. i can carry a spare battery in my pocket. Next fringe benefit was finding out that this phone has 3 cameras, 1 front facing and 2 rear, one of them being a wide angle lens. But the love keeps getting better... add to that a removable SD card up to 256 GB or more when they come out with one, fingerprint censor, 64 GB phone and you have a pretty serious contender. I love this phone. I love it so much i but another one. Actually at the moment i have 3. Oh and yes, probably one of the only phones left that has both a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a type C charging port. The Audio and DAC units in this phone is better than most high end audio gear that you would find in a music studio, and i am a musician. I have heard of complaints about the camera quality, but to that i say if you want pictures with that kind of quality, go out and buy a Nikon! Also i have heard that manufactures are moving away form 3.5 mm jacks and removable batteries because they want to make the phones more water proof. Bull Hockey!! Are people so obsessed with phones that they cannot leave the thing alone for a 10 minute swim. The real reason is because the manufacturer doesn't want you keeping a phone more than 2 years so they make the batteries last only that long and if you cannot replace the battery, you need a new phone. (or you can go the route of trying to put a new battery in your phone and butcher it to death).
Long story to say do not count the LG V20 out yet. it is a superb phone, has many features that a lot of other phones just do not have. I am very pleased with both of mine and i love the second screen.
The only bad experience i have had is that in order to get Verizon's Visual Voice mail, i had to purchase a Verizon version, and the front camera crapped out after a week. It was supposed to be new, but the box looks like it has been ridden around the world, so i doubt it was new. SO i am sending that back but still have both of my unlocked US996's.

Like, how is December 2016 is more that 2 years ago? Kid, are you sane? More so, Shap 820 even didn't existed more than 2 years ago, it is still actual chip not legacy like some 810, and 835 is pretty much == 820 rebranded and repainted

The weakest point is battery somewhat degraded over time, I could have like 7hrs SOT on Wifi on the start but now after cold winters it shows its age and gives me around 4.5...5 SOT on same router. but battery is exchangeable easily and I hope to buy more fresh one
Some people claim they got screen retention, it's more visible the more southern country you live and more brighter you must set you screen to

I still am keeping it as a backup phone but I am using a different DD. I did take it on a trip though with the 10800 ma battery I have for it. I'm running a stock 918H and it still fairly fast. The SD card and headphone jack are nice too. Still a good buy at $150 or so

I love the second screen and the DAC but being forced to run the stock ROM is a PITA as it's very sluggish. I have a Mi A1 that runs circles around the V20 in terms of performance, which is sad. Meanwhile, if you try to solve the lag, running Lineage OS defeats the purpose and outweighs the benefits of the phone as you won't have the DAC, second screen nor full camera functionality.

Absolutely it is worth it. You can pick up a V30 with a slightly faster processor, and slightly better camera (and that is debatable) for $250. However, you will lose the replaceable battery, the second screen, the IR blaster.
The people that say they are having performance problems have hardware issues. Even stock non-rooted, runs plenty fast, but if you use Alpha ROM, and debloat all the carrier bullsh** then it runs like a beast.

I don't have hardware issues. The stock ROM (de-bloated or not) is well known to be sluggish. As I stated in my post, the phone is completely different if running Lineage at the cost of the unique functionality. Aside from many people complaining of the performance under stock as being sluggish, this guy describes it perfectly:

Your sarcasm isn't appreciated and I'm not spreading fud - this is fact. I've done lots of tweaking and no amount of it will fix what LG did to the stock ROM. You're acting as if I'm the only person who has pointed out the shortcomings of the V20. The fact is, it is a fantastic phone with bad execution of the OS by LG. To be clear, I still use mine but it will soon be retired to secondary usage as my Mi A1 is way better as a DD.

No, I am sure there are plenty of others out there complaining as well -- that also don't know the first thing about how to get the most out of their phone.
Is the V20 the end-all / be-all? Nope, but it is the last great flagship phone that was released. Everything since is just a waste of money.

We just bought our T-mobile V20's this year. Great phones for about $150 in excellent used (hard to tell they were used) condition. Great photos and DAC, among other things. We couldn't find anything comparable for that price, new or used.

Mine is still great. Stock, unrooted, H990DS with a zerolemon 10000mAh extended battery. The image retention doesn't bother me - it's not permanent. I use the widescreen camera a lot, and charge the device once every 3-4 days. The IR transmitter sees plenty of use too, as does the DAC and the dual SIM.
There's nothing else that fits my needs. Dreading when it dies.

I just got me V20 H918 in excellent condition with 3 batteries and 4 cases for $185 shipped. I've come from G4 which started to have GPS lock issues, sometimes. My LG G3 GPS is no longer working at all. lol. Not sure what's up with that. Was this fixed in v20 or is this just tear and wear on GPS chip or something?
My main attraction point is camera manual controls and i mean white balance K numbers and mic for loud concert recording as well as removable battery and i prefer bigger screens and 5.7 upgrade from 5.5 on G4 is welcomed too. Oh and DAC was other feature that attracted me as well. What's weird that G4 concert recording was terrible but G3 was fantastic. Never distorted. Hoping V20 has great mic like G3 did. Let me know your thoughts.
I will NOT buy a phone if it doesn't have removable battery as i refuse to spend $800 on phone every few years and be forced by manufacturers due to profit.
Don't know any other manufacturer that lets you do white balance in K values. I wish aperture would be f=1.6 or f1.5 but had no complains with 1.8 on G4. Kinda sucks wide angle is f2.4, as it should be 1.8 or lower. It seems ppl use that camera more often. I guess night shots in standard angle is to use.
Thought about pixel but don't have manual control like LG does. If you guys have any suggestions on used phone <$250 that blows V20 out of water please let me know. I use to be Samsung Galaxy lover but since LG introduced manual controls i switched. There was pro photographer article on G4 camera so ppl that think iphone or samsung has better camera u should read that article. But let me know if there is something better.

In process of rooting it as i need it for kernel auditor for screen colors profiles (Vomer DeepRich) and kernel i/o scheduler control and kin screen and lux too, among few more other apps. Came with 10u so downgraded to 10p, bootloader unlocked already. Next will be laf exploid root method.

I just reflashed the excellent Alpha ROM on my V20 and managed to rid myself of a significant portion of the sluggishness I mentioned by getting rid of Magisk. I'm not sure what was going on but Magisk was definitely slowing everything down on my V20. Recommend if you buy this phone to stay away from Magisk or at least keep this is mind if you intend to root.

Fed up with Oneplus

Is anyone feeling fed up with OnePlus on some level. This week they released their new beta 7 for the 6T. The update lists updates for weather and Switch app and this is the same for all their devices on open beta.
To me at least it feels like they're struggling to keep up with the beta roll outs for all their devices.
There are many bugs/feature requests that are being ignored and they are just rolling out these meaningless updates so that they can say that they provide two beta updates a month.
I've spent a fair bit of money on OnePlus phones in the last few years and always defending them mainly with the point of updates are frequent and the software is great,. It now I'm not so sure going forward. Looking at other devices now giving more for less money,even Samsung mid range A50 is giving a 4000mah battery,expandable storage,and official IPS rating amongst many other features
Really thinking of moving on from OnePlus as the price keeps rising and it's not worth it for what we're getting

Honestly the software isn't a problem. The complaints most people have are prices rising without anything more in the phone. IN FACT from the 6 to the 6t we lost several features and QoL things.

Absolutely,this is a major concern. I got a free 6T through the referral program and sold my 6 which I soon realized was the better device. Do miss my led and working fingerprint,just concerned that the software is taking a tumble now too

Feel free to go buy a crappy $1,000 Samsung or iPhone that provide nothing except nice screens and cameras. Good luck with that. For the money, OnePlus is the best value performance and mod friendly phone around that supports all cell networks in the US. So does a Pixel, but that is also another $1,000 phone and their updates are no better.

Nexus 6P
Pixel XL
Pixel 2 XL
Pixel 3 XL
OnePlus 5
OnePlus 5T
OnePlus 6
OnePlus 6T
The 6T has definitely been my favourite device and best performer out of all these past smartphones I've listed.
The 6 has the same specs as 6T but I guess the software wasn't as polished as it is now on my 6T. It's blazing fast and smooth, no stutters or lag.
It's surprisingly faster and less laggy compared to my recent 3XL! The initial app launch speeds for example, are significantly faster on my 6T (and no, it's not just because of faster animations).
The price is slowly going up, but it's still the best bang for your buck compared to other devices in this price range.
I do enjoy quick software updates, but I'm not a beta user and it's also by no means a deal breaker for me. I don't mind a few delayed updates here and there. No big deal.
Battery life has been insane as well, averaging 6 hours of SOT where I normally get about 4-5.
The issues I have with this phone are the following:
- Lack of VoLTE and VoWiFi (but I think this is a carrier specific issue for me)
- Weak and cheap feeling vibrate motor
- Inferior camera (especially after using the Pixel 3 XL camera) (Gcam port helps a bit, but still inferior)
- FP scanner is hit or miss, and I hate how night light disables and screen brightens during scan/lockscreen
- FP scanner incompatible with custom ROMs (the flashaholic in me is having withdrawals) (however OOS is growing on me and I'm loving the stock software experience now!)
- Wrong mic used in some apps (i.e. Snapchat)
However, despite all these issues, I still consider it to be an overall better experience and value compared to all my other devices I've owned in the past. I may skip the OnePlus 7 and keep this, not only because it's been a great overall experience, but also because the 7 is supposed to have a popup front camera. Introducing motorized parts is asking for trouble, so I may skip it.
All-in-all, it's the best phone I've ever owned and I'm definitely not fed up or anything of that nature.

Coming from Samsung to OnePlus 6T. There isn't a chance in hell for me to go back. Devices are way more expensive and they aren't as good for me any way.
With storage and root capability I couldn't ask for more, other than maybe a working LED.
As for updates unless they have something that really changes things then great if not who cares. People buy new devices then immediately want updates I just don't get it.
For me this is the best device I have ever owned. Just my two cents.

I do enjoy quick software updates, but I'm not a beta user and it's also by no means a deal breaker for me. I don't mind a few delayed updates here and there. No big deal.
Battery life has been insane as well, averaging 6 hours of SOT where I normally get about 4-5.
The issues I have with this phone are the following:
- Lack of VoLTE and VoWiFi (but I think this is a carrier specific issue for me)
- Weak and cheap feeling vibrate motor
- Inferior camera (especially after using the Pixel 3 XL camera) (Gcam port helps a bit, but still inferior)
- FP scanner is hit or miss, and I hate how night light disables and screen brightens during scan/lockscreen
- FP scanner incompatible with custom ROMs (the flashaholic in me is having withdrawals) (however OOS is growing on me and I'm loving the stock software experience now!)
- Wrong mic used in some apps (i.e. Snapchat)
However, despite all these issues, I still consider it to be an overall better experience and value compared to all my other devices I've owned in the past. I may skip the OnePlus 7 and keep this, not only because it's been a great overall experience, but also because the 7 is supposed to have a popup front camera. Introducing motorized parts is asking for trouble, so I may skip it.
All-in-all, it's the best phone I've ever owned and I'm definitely not fed up or anything of that nature.

Same here , recently switched from HTC with a new model every year since the Touch <1992 maybe) lol.
No complaints here with the 6T. VoLTE and WiFi calling work. By no means does this phone have a weak vibration motor.
Google camera is my default.
Fingerprint scanner works 95 % of the time. Also using Renovate ROM 11.1. I have always used an original OS, no AOSP or custom OS ROMs.
Looking forward to the full screen 7T and pop-up camera, it will be a nice feature. If your vibration motor has never quit on a phone I highly doubtful the camera will have any issues.

My last device was a Galaxy S8+, being in the U.S., it would have to be a HUGE breakthrough to get me to switch back. Perhaps like an unlockable bootloader on sammy devices, but we know that isnt gonna happen!

I hear you. This is my first OnePlus device and I actually don't like the stock software. After 3 months I grew to hate it due to several reasons. After getting fed up with it I decided to install Havoc ROM and haven't looked back since. I love Havoc and the phone runs extremely good with it. My main regret is the 7 is looking really nice. I like how it doesn't have a front cam because I don't use the front cam and the idea of having a full screen front display is intriguing. I might sell my P2XL and OP6T when the 7 comes out. I might also wait to see what the Note 10 has to offer. I'm not a huge Samsung fan but the Note 10 might be interesting.

How does the Referral Program work tho. I know this is OT but OP6T is my first OP phone. Got it solely for the custom Development. And while the FP is a letdown its slow anyway so I don't care. Phone is smooth overall. As for software I couldn't care less as the only time I used OOS was to unlock bootloader.

You can get a link in your OnePlus account and share it with friends,you will have to refer about 70 people though to get a new phone.You could referv few and get vouchers for accessories .Its pretty good if you can get the prople

Vibrate motor feels weak and inferior to me, especially after feeling the quality of a Pixel 2 and 3 vibrate motor. I can't really feel it in my pocket.
However, you raise an interesting point with the popup camera not giving any issues if a vibrate motor doesn't. Will have to wait and see once the 7 is officially announced!

I like my 6T. Best phone I ever had. But, I do miss the LED (it was a major part of how I used my phones), and the vibration motor on every phone I've had in the last 6 years or so has gotten worse each time. Not just oneplus. I miss the old Blackberry vibrators that could buzz the phone off the table.

I really like my 6T! Of course it's not all rainbows here either, there's a few annoying thing about this phone I'd change if I could. The mono speaker on the corner of the phone is just plain annoying, far too easy to muffle for a device with a built in "gaming mode" since obviously your hands will be on the top and bottom of the device. And the decision to keep the source for the new fingerprint sensor closed source...... That aggravates me since I soley went oneplus for the stellar dev scene here...... OP threw a wrench in the machine with that. It didn't stop development in any way, but I won't use a rom that lacks such a big feature, through zero fault of the devs here.

You should go on the open beta,surely there's got to be more frequent updates on the open beta than samsung

With storage and root capability I couldn't ask for more, other than maybe a working LED.
As for updates unless they have something that really changes things then great if not who cares. People buy new devices then immediately want updates I just don't get it.
For me this is the best device I have ever owned. Just my two cents.

Agreed, this was a great upgrade coming from Samsung and their soaring prices.
