Pie and Google Pay - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I updated to the latest Pie update with ODIN (G955FXXU4DSBA) but was on the Pie beta before that and I can't use Google Pay. Is this the same for everyone else? I understand that Pay wouldn't have worked on the beta as it wasn't certified but with this being the stable Pie build shouldn't Pay work?
Edit: Fixed. OEM Unlock was toggled on in the developer settings, I don't know why. Turning this off, restarting, clearing the cache and data of the Play Store solved this and my device was Play Protect Certified again.

If you dirty flashed through Odin (using Home CSC to keep your data from the beta) you will have to clear cache. After that you'll be fine.

I did dirty flash through Odin yeah I should've mentioned that in the OP, but yeah I've now cleared the cache & data of Google Pay, the Play Store and Play Services and I still get the same "Couldn't finish setup to pay in shops" thing. Is there anything else I need to clear the cache of?

[Q] Google Voice force closing even after factory reset

I was out in the sticks today and I was having trouble getting my GV to update since I didn't have any service. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and now it force closes after I finish setup. Did a factory reset from the menu and I still have the same issue. Even with nothing but the stock gapps installed. Anyone else encounter this?

Make sure all the Gapps are updated to the latest versions. I get FCs all the time after flash Gapps and not updating them.

How can you uninstall and then re-install GV?? it isnt available on Play store...
if you installed it again from the GApps package then the case might be due to lack of libs.
flash the latest GApps again/the GApss available along your ROM. if your ROM has Gapps add-on inside it, then reflash the ROm; data isnt lost
I'm sorry, I may have used some of the vocabulary incorrectly. Allow me to explain this a bit better. My phone is completely stock and unrooted. By update, I meant grab any new texts/voicemails I had missed while out to coverage. When I mentioned gapps, I was referring to the Google apps that come stock on the N4.

Google Voice is available on the Play store...
If if GV isn't available where you live, it's probably not on your Play store, the OP is in the US where GV is supported and available on the Play store.
Still having the same issue after updating all apps. I find it odd that it would crash after a factory reset with nothing else installed. Does the factory reset option from the menu leave any residual data behind? Is there another option that does a true full wipe?
Bump
I'm dead in the water here. I use GV exclusively and this is really hampering my work. Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated. Should I attempt to flash a custom rom and go back to stock? Are there any partitions that could be holding any previous settings that could be screwing things up?

Play Store Access

A bit of a weird one.
Updated to CM12.1 Atares ROM :good: I have been running CM12 ROMS for ages and updated to the 12.1 via the OTG in settings and using Nightlies.
I have only noticed problem yesterday and going back to CM12 just causes more problems, also going back to the previous Nightly doesn't help
I cannot access Google Play Store. 'Check your connection and try again' All WiFi settings are correct etc... even when using mobile data, I still cannot get access.
My GT1905 has disappeared off my devices list on the play store too! I've also noticed that Google+ has disappeared off my phone too, but more interestingly my SUBCARD app has gone too! (not sure if others have gone but I noticed this as I like a subway :yum: ) But... if I go to the playstore on my phone (or PC/tablet etc...) via chrome it says it's installed! I cannot access it via my apps list.
So other than doing a wipe of my phone if there any other suggestions?
Did you perform a full wipe before updating?
You cannot just flash it over an old CM 12 you need a fresh install.

Well I would of done if it hadn't come via the OTA updates, never noticed it went from CM12 to CM12.1 until Monday/Tuesday last week.
Will do a full wipe later on today and see what happens.

Custom rom OTA's are not like official rom OTA's. Doing a wipe is still recommended. Anyway, force stopping google play and clearing app cache and data might help you in this case.
Had similar issues on other roms, even though I wiped before flashing.

I tried clearing all data and cache and also force stopping. WhisperPush kept crashing too.
Wiped the phone and started again, all sorted now with CM12.1 latest nightly build
Cheers for the advice guys.

Uncertified device

Hi,
Using a Moto G4 nonplus with Nougat, f you moto for not updating it to Oreo. Anyways everything is stock non rooted, never formatted it ever but the play store is saying that the device is uncertified. Why is that so?
Thanks
What firmware version are you using? Did you try to delete Playstore Cache and Data? Same for Google Play Services.
You could try to wipe cache from the recovery as well.
Had the same problem with NPJS25.93-14-15, but I am rooted and could solve the problem by using a Magisk module which changes the fingerprint of the firmware.

My display broke. I really don't want to get it fixed as moto sucks. I will try to get a new phone if the budget allows otherwise I will get back if I get the display fixed.

Guys, an easier way is this. Just turn on Battery Saver mode and your update or download will start immediately...

I don't think that's the case, because it took quite a lot of time

You can also delete Google Play Services cache, this works pretty well in those cases. Even if you have problems trying to download a device system update.
Even it's data (in this case you'll have to add an account for Google's data backup again).
However, keep in mind this kind of processes won't work well if you have enabled apps, device features or Magisk modules that force device to save battery in some way.

Would be good to tell us which system you've installed.
Any custom ROM? Are you in stock?
On the first case, check ROM installation.
If it came with gapps preinstalled, better flash an updated version of that ROM (clean or dirty would change, depending of Android major verion in which that update is based), otherwise flash another gapps, I use OpenGapps.Try to flash, at least, nano gapps.
If you're on stock, things are quite different, since there you haven't the same way so solve things, more than than reflashing firmware.

Stock Android One version 9 (Pie) with regular updates. :silly:
Looks like something is screwed up there.
Is your device rooted?
I feel that would be better to backup your data and flash latest firmware with Mi Flasher tool.
The same is happening some times and on my A1 and is fully updated stock rom without root or any other thing...
I think it has to do with the latest version of Google store or Google services...

OP6T. Google Pay not working with latest A10 OB

Hey! I know that some people are facing the issue with Google pay, I faced it as well. Google pay says that my device doesn't meet the software requirements. Before update I had latest Android 9 open beta installed. I don't want to rollback, so I'm seeking for a solution. Can the issue with gpay be resolved?
We need to wait for OnePlus/Google to fix it, I saw some weird crashes in the logcat during the boot process, for me doesn't work even with the bootloader locked.

For me it is working.
Also, Oneplus reported on their forum Google Pay not be working for most of the time.
we need to wait a bit for having a fix. :crying:
For more information about it, head over to the forum, :fingers-crossed:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...a-1-for-the-oneplus-6-and-oneplus-6t.1120323/
It was working for me for a half day on the A10 then suddenly started saying it doesn't meet the security standards.
Just to explain better, the application opens and it's not blocked. Just when you try to pay it says with red exclamation the device doesn't meet the security standards etc. So the payments do not work via nfc
Why I didn't read the "Known Issues" part before switching? My Google Pay doesn't work but I also don't feel like loosing my data... Lessons learned I guess...
Fully working on my side. On 10 beta thread i post the steps i followed. Nothing special btw.
Worked for me for around a day but stopped working for me too.
Guess it'll be fixed soon. Just have to remember to carry my wallet.

Did you try to pay with nfc, where you put the phone next to a terminal ? And are you sure you have OnePlus 6T and not just 6 ?
Try to pay today .
If it still works please post the steps here .

Yes and I have already used gpay 3 times. So it's quite strange if nobody can have it, I know ..
Maybe in that way it could be fine for you too :
- flash a boot_patched like explain in ob1 theead
- clean cache and storage for play store and Google service and maybe do the same with gpay if you have already try to activate it
- safety patch should be useless but i activate it too
- hide Google service
Then you might configure gpay with success

So if I understand you correctly, you installed a hacked boot.img and that is how you are saying it works ?
I am on stock I do not want to install custom boot.img, root or magisk modules.
Clearing Google Services would cause my Watch to be deleted so that will not work for me too.
I guess I will have to wait for an official way/fix.
GPay works
Without any update, OnePlus just certified our beta.
Need to:
1) clear cache and data GPay
2) clear cache and data of Google Services
3) Reboot your phone
4) Setup GPay

None of this is working for me and after 10 years on Android I'm tired of fixing things. None if the steps worked for my phone, of cousrse.
So I cleared cach and data from a gpay. Cleared cash and data from Google services. rebooted the phone. tried to set up Google pay and it says I cannot finnish setup to pay in stores.
Im on 10.3.7... oxygen updater says im up to date.
Im not rooted and haven't unlocked my bootloader.

I have experienced two cases as below:
1st case was when I used the converted global ROM from T-mobile with dual-sim, but the same IMEI number for two SIMs. Google pay configuration itself was not allowed because of the IMEI. This is my guess.
2nd case is when I uses the factory unlocked version with global ROM with different IMEI numbers for two SIMs. as you know, 8G/256GB is exactly unlocked & global version. Google pay configuration is ok, now it still works well under OSS 10.3.10.
