Hi, I'm currently on january stock rom (V10.0.4.0) and I did the mod to get camera2 API and installed Gcam. I unlocked and rooted my phone, did the mods and then unrooted and relocked it. Supposedly, this method doesn't affect the OTA updates, but when I try to install the febrruary update, it says that the update cannot be installed. Someone have a solution/guide for this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, please help me.
I was wondering, whether do we get OTA updates after rooting the phone ?
If a rooted device does not get OTA updates, does unrooting it help to get them back?
I *think* you can only manually update to a developer version once you have rooted. Could be wrong though.
Install Developer ROM

Download and install Developer ROM for your device model from the official MIUI website.
Developer ROM is pre-rooted and gets OTA updates almost weekly.
yes developer rom to be installed ......
if u like root permissions and want to have ota updates as well
where can one get the developer version?
I have a first-gen Verizon Moto X running 4.4.4 that is rooted with an unlocked Bootloader via the Chinese Middleman method. I apologize if this thread has been asked before, but it has been a while since I've done any phone rooting/modification so I am quite rusty.
I have Xposed with GravityBox installed and my phone just downloaded the Verizon Android 5.1 OTA. Can anyone point to instructions on how I can safely install this OTA? I have TWRP recovery installed.
And to be sure, Xposed + GravityBox now works with Android 5.1 right?

I believe there is a new thread that addresses this basic situation. Sorry I don't have a link to the thread but its basically a guide to taking 5.1 update, you should be able to find it here in the General Section. Not sure how it varies for verizon but the basic Idea is you have to download the full firmware and reflash your system partition, gravitybox/xposed/ and any other system modifications won't allow you to take the OTA, and trying to disable/undo each thing is still risky. So you need to be stock basically, before you take it. And stock recovery as well.

I wouldn't bother to prepare yet. 5.1's not even entered soak testing for VZW's build. When you do get ready to prepare you basically need to flash back to a stock unrooted rom to accept the OTA.
The current OTA (212.166.3.en.US) on VZW appears to be just a minor bug fix (not 5.1). Probably this one: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Spec...-serious-problem-with-emergency-calls_id69001, but I haven't installed it yet.

As far as Verizon 1st gen moto X, there's never been a system version beginning with 213

Since you got your unlock code from the China seller... The First thing you'll want to do is read -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/lollipop-warning-unlocked-via-sunshine-t3114428
Next, there is a pre-flash validation check that runs on EVERY OTA.. It checks certain parts/pieces of your phone. You can't deviate from what its looking for or the OTA will fail to install. Also, the only way the OTA will install is via STOCK recovery, if you have a 3rd party recovery (like TWRP) on your phone, you'll bootloop. Because of that you'll see suggestions to flash back to completely stock. While that is the easiest solution, it depends on your situation..
If all you did was Root, Xposed and Gravity box, no other changes to /system files, modems, etc... then you can disable Xposed (boot to TWRP and install /SDcard/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files/Xposed-Disable-Recovery.zip ) and you might as well uninstall it too. I'm not sure about gravity box. Then flash the STOCK Recovery.img for your stock rom on your phone using moto's fastboot.
Finally, There is a newer version Xposed for Lollipop. The old one only worked in Dalvik mode. Lollipop needs Xposed that runs in ART. But since I haven't kept up on Xposed, I'm not sure if there is a final or just an experimental version available now.
To confirm, I was able to flash it back to stock and accepted the OTA. However, like a previous user said, it was just a maintenance update and not the 5.1 Lollipop upgrade.
Hi all. I'm on a custom stock 6.0.1 ROM. It's working really well since I installed it and I'm pretty satisfied with that but since then I dint installed any monthly security updates so I'm stuck on a May patch.
I know it's there an October update and was thinking if it's there a way to just install the security patch WITHOUT installing all the whole ROM. You know, if something is working just don't touch it.
And btw, developer of my ROM sold his device and there aren't more updates to his room. The one rocking my phone is the last one.
Someone can point me out. Thank you

As far as i know there is no way to install ota or security patch updates unless you unroot your device with stock recovery. Even if you find ota zip file for security patch update you cannot flash via custom recovery your binaries bust be official to apply this patch.
Yep no way as far as I know. I flashed back stock recovery, unrooted, still OTA wasn't applied from Stock recovery, forgotten the error code.
Hello,
I have a ZTE Axon 7. I have not received the OTA update to Android 7.1. Just now, I am on 6.0.1 (ZTE A2017GV1.0.0B08). My device has only the stock features (I have no unlocked anything).
So, my question is, which is the ordered and simplest steps to have a phone with a stock ROM (updated to 7.1) and with Bootloader, TWRP, and root?
I would like to maintain the stock ROM in order to use Google Daydream and Maintain an acceptable quality on Camera and Audio. I heard that LOS have some issues on these aspects.
Thanks,

https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-install-twrp-unlock-bl-flash-t3517379
follow this guide until B
then, reflash stock recovery, upgrade your phone with ota.
after that, reenter edl mode, and flash twrp 3.1
look that the first twrp you flash is only to unlock, its signed and dont work. so dont keep it.
I use aosp extended, works really good, no manual camera unless you flash stock, sound works good

Or you can just use my toolkit which does it all for you https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/tool-axon7toolkit-t3573108
Bkroes, using your tool, you suggest to update at nougat and, after the update, unlock the bootloader and root the device?
I have not received the OTA update, so I am thinking to update with FOTA.

Download the 7.1.1 zip and put it in the sd, then go to updates
Yes, but can I unlock the bootloader and root the device after the update? Or I have to unlock the bootloader before the update?
Where you able to do it?
Hey guys.
I rooted my phone through the instructions on the youtube video "Root Xiaomi Mi A1 without disabling OTA! WITH WORKING PROOF!" (can't post link)
It used Platform tools and magisk and it lets you install new OTA updates through uninstalling magisk, getting the appropriate patch for this update and rooting again.
Now I updated again, and unfortunately forgot to check if there is already a new patch for this update.
Couldn't find it anywhere.
Any help??
